I have gone to many salons but none of them ever compare to this place. I have been going here for years and everyone is so nice and they really connect with their customers. I am new to Buffalo Grove and this is the closest salon to me so I gave it a try. This place is just okay. I got a no-chip manicure yesterday and not only was it painted on my skin but one nail chipped already. The color I originally wanted must've been old bc it turned out a totally different color so I had to use something else similar to try and match my pedicure. It doesn't seem very clean either. Up until very recently, I had been going here for years.  Their business has grown, and they've hired new staff. The quality has definitely suffered as a result. The last two times I went in, I had terrible experiences, and will never go back.  In the midst of getting my nails done (one hand had just been polished), Nicki came over to ask if I paid.  I hadn't, as the new manicurist never asked me to pay first.  Nicki insisted that I play right then, despite having one hand still wet from the polish.  I thought Nicki was kidding, as she knows I am a loyal customer and would never try to walk out without paying. The next thing I knew, she had her hand in my purse, explaining that she would help me get my money so as not to ruin my polished hand.  I was stunned!  And as if that weren't enough, while I was sitting with both hands drying at the drying table, she asked the manicurist what she charged me.  The manicurist didn't know to charge me an additional $5.00 for what I received, (nor did I!), however, Nicki came over and demanded the additional $5.00 right then and there.  First of all, I would never have asked for that type of manicure if I had known there was a $5.00 additional charge attached to it, and secondly, Nicki approached me in the most rude way.  When an employee makes mistakes, you suck it up, and deal with the employee afterwards.  Nicki has definitely lost that sweet demeanor, which  is what kept me coming back, along with the good quality of care.  However, things have definitely changed in every respect.  They have lost a long-time customer as a result of this experience.  Beware.  This is not the place it used to be! Have been going here for about 4 years and within the last 6 months it has gone down hill. The staff seems nice but quickly turns rude when you don't jump at their commands. The new people are not well trained and they do a sloppy job. My daughter went with me and they ended up cutting her toe open. Blood was all throughout the tub. They did not clean the tub very well afterwards so that was a big red flag!!!!The prices are ok but you now are getting sub-par service. I hate to leave a bad review but this place has become a toilet bowl. So now the quest to find a new, clean, friendly, professional place that can do toes well!!! Read Less

I've been coming to Shalom for pedi's for years, and I always walk out happy. It's not a big, extravagant nail salon but they know how to treat my feet! The ladies at Shalom aren't afraid to break out the big guns to make sure your feet are sandal-ready. The polish selection isn't the best, but the color of my toenails is nowhere near as important as the quality of the job. Read Less

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! After a few bad experiences at other local salons after moving here, I tried this place out based on reviews. Wow! They seem to only have one woman on staff who does acrylics (what I have), but she does them so well I don't mind making an appointment. I've even gone a week with no nails (a very rare sight for me!) just so I could see Sarah for my full set! I am very picky about my nails, and she always does an incredible job. The shape and length are perfect! All the women are very sweet, and it only took a few appointments for them to know me by name and know what I like.To address some of the other reviews about "rudeness", they have at times been very blunt with me about my nail care. Personally, I view it as professional advice (they are licensed professionals, after all), and am thankful for it! But I can see how others might be offended.And yes, you should make an appointment. They're in a busy area and are sometimes booked. I often just call the day before and it's no problem.Also, to the issues with sanitation- I am a licensed esthetician and I have seen no issues. We are trained and tested on many of the same sanitation and sterilization protocols. Don't make assumptions based on what you think is happening, a lot happens behind the scenes/between appointments. And more often than not, people just don't know what to look for! One day after getting a $40 full set of acrylics my nail polish is already chipping! The nails are also very chunky and misshapen. I also witnessed a woman being ridiculed for the poor condition of her feet. I was told I was being too stiff and it was hurting the manicurists hands and that it looks like I rip my skin. Read Less

I really had high hopes for this place. Coming in it was very nice and the atmosphere was great. The staff seemed nice too. The one woman nicki is very very nice. As for the service I did not have a good experience at all. I had an older woman do my nails. Not only was she rude, but she took forever. I get full set acrylics done all of the time and it's usually takes 30-45 minutes total. This lady took an hour and a half before she even put the polish on. Not to mention her filing was the most painful thing ever and my cuticles were bleeding. Another bad thing about the manicure is that either  the tips they used or the acrylic powder/solution was expired. My nails started cracking and breaking immediately. I went in to another salon three days later and had them fix and cut them down to help them be stronger, and they still ended up just all breaking off within two more days. They were poor quality. The person who did my nails at the other salon even commented about how badly a job the woman did and how poor the quality was of the nails. Last, but not least was the pricing at shalom. It seems most of their services are a normal or average price, but a full set starts at $40. Normally it's around 23-30 tops. For it being that awful quality I was very upset. After having so many bad experiences with Asian salons ( dirty facilities, rude technicians and owners and just a lack of an experience), I was skeptical with this place, but reading so many positive reviews, I had to go see it for myself and wow was i surprised. From the first second you walk in the door, you feel a very positive vibe, everyone is super nice and not fake nice, but truly happy to see you and serve you.I had a wonderful lady who did my nails and was very patient while I explained to her what I want done (i like to experiment with my nails: colors/patterns etc.)Just a great place AND they do buy 10 manicures and get 11th free, so I'm a loyal fan and will be coming back Read Less

LOVED IT.  this is my third time there so I was half expecting things to be different.  Usually when I start a salon it is pretty good-if I come in on a special it seems the service is not the same as if you are paying the usual price-so it's time to find another salon.  Shalom Nail did not fit the same ole same ole. I went in for their Monday-Wednesday special and was not disappointed. Clean, polite and fast.  Walk-ins welcome.My first time was great-second time great-and today, the third time still great.  I have had three different technicians and all were wonderful.  After the manicure (complete with warm towels and a hand massage) you get yet another massage while your nails are drying!I'm a believer-be back in two weeks Read Less

My mom ONLY goes to Shalom for her mani/pedi's.  I can't remember ever going there before, I tried once, and they couldn't take me without an appointment in the middle of the day, so I went elsewhere.My mom ONLY goes here because Monday-Wednesday they have a mani/pedi deal.  Unfortunately, we went on a Thursday and paid full price ($38)Upsides:-I'm on day 7 and things are holding up nicely.  A few small chips, and mostly wear around the tips of my nails, because I clack along on a keyboard all day at the office.-Clean facility.  Friendly but not overbearing staff.  A good selection of colors (they have OPI no-chip here as well as shellac.)Things I was confused about:-My massage chair during the pedicure.  All of the buttons were worn down and I couldn't figure out how to change the setting/turn it off.-When I called the day ahead for 2 appointments at 5:30, I was told we had to come at 5:15 because they were booked the rest of the night.  We got there at 5:15, but the next appointments didn't come in until at least 6:15.  There were two technicians without customers.  We definitely could've come at 5:30.Things I downright didn't like:-My technician answered her cell phone in the middle of my nail service.  TWICE.  AND she MADE a phone call.  Not cool.  Not cool at all.-The whole appointment thing.  Seriously, they were not busy, and we could've come in 15 minutes later.In a nutshell:  I'll go back, but only on a Monday-Wednesday to take advantage of the special, and only when I know I'll be needing an appointment and can make one in advance.  If I need/want a manicure on the fly, this probably won't be my go-to place.  They seem to rely heavily on appointments only, and don't really want the walk-in business.
