Fox & Hounds is one of the best salons in town for hair or waxing. I never leave disappointed. There prices are slightly more than other similar salons in the area, but they do send out coupons in the mail keep an eye out for those. They also don't accept American Express cards which I have forgotten several times while there. Read Less

Thanks so much to Vicki and Dani. I came in yesterday in desperate need of a refresh after a not so great experience with a different salon many months back. Between the pictures I showed them and the consultation Vicki got it exactly right and made sure to check in with me periodically, as well as having some of the best stylist "bedside manner" I've ever known. Dani is a fully certified stylist in her own right and was going through Vicki's training and was SO kind to me and an excellent listener. I got my hair done for the first time here with Karen yesterday.. I originally wanted my roots bleached, which were over 4 inches long, but Karen suggested a new trend so i went with it. My appointment was at 1 and Karen took her time making sure my hair was gonna look it's best, knowing it was gonna take some time to do.. the salon closed at 4 yet Karen didn't rush through this long process of getting my hair perfect.. she was very sweet & knowledgeable.. I could not believe the end result 😍 my hair has never looked this good and i will never go anywhere else.. the salon is very clean & the staff is very friendly.. i knew the price was gonna be high but it was totally worth it.. I scheduled my appointment online and my appointment was scheduled for today at 4:15. I show up get checked in and the receptionist states that the online system only gave me a 15 minute time when booking my appointment. This wasn't the issue she told me that if I was okay with having someone else do my hair and I said sure that's fine. She then leaves and comes back 15 minutes later and tells me that she misunderstood the manager that they have no spot for me and that they've been trying to call me all day! Well a mom of 5 works fulltime and off today while in kids doctors appointment all day I didn't have my phone on me! Then the receptionist states I missed an appointment sometime last month?? I've never been here and have never scheduled till this appointment! Very unprofessional. I received a text confirming my appointment and when I explained this to the receptionist she states that our online system has been acting up?? I even tried to ask if they can just do a cut and not color and was told no they don't have time!! Yes I'm upset when your a mom and work full time our time is very limited and it's wrong to have to leave without any service being offered! I guess this was my 1st and last time at Fox & Hounds! I've been there 2x in last month or so. The first time was for a manicure, second time pedicure. Beautiful building inside and out, staff very very friendly. Was very disappointed in both services though. Manicure was done professionally and sat there maybe 20 minutes for it to dry. I went home, got ready for bed, and woke up with blanket marks on my fingers.Most recently had pedicure and the gal was very professional and did a great job except she didn't let the polish dry. She immediately sent me home. I was up probably 2 hours before going to bed. When I woke up again head blanket marks on my toes.I just feel for what you pay, that that should not happen. I will say when I had my mani, I watched them clean the chair from head rest all the way down. Very impressed with that. I've NEVER seen that done at any place I've previously been. Read Less

I love Fox and Hounds. I've had wonderful massages that truly were DEEP tissue rather than a hesitant rubdown by someone afraid to hurt me despite my having paid for a deep tissue massage! Then I got my hair cut and colored. After a horrible experience with a strip mall business -- I had never gone to any other type of place, I used a gift certificate to try F & H. I was nervous because my stylist, Abby, seemed very young, but she had been there 5 years. She created the most FANTASTIC color ever! Looks like my color as a kid. I always get compliments and I feel good about myself. The staff are very kind. No high pressure product sales. The only downside, true of any salon, is that it is WAY more expensive than the strip mall businesses! It was total sticker shock for me. But I would never go back to the other places. It's a case of you get what you pay for. And their prices are totally in keeping with similar grade salons. Ken Sprouls is the best! He's cared for my hair for about 9 years, and he's amazing! He explained me curly hair and helped me understand how to manage it. He provides excellent service and I'm always impressed. I won't let anyone else touch my hair! I enjoy going to Fox and Hounds. I went here once for my ISU graduation day pampering. I got the full body wrap, haircut and style, and a no-chip manicure. It was a few years ago, so I don't remember the names of the technicians and stylists, but I do I remember loving the services and the spa/salon! Fast forward to now - last weekend I took a weekend getaway trip with my cousin and we went here. This time, I had become a mom and was in need of a hair update. My cousin got a massage, facial, and herbal wrap and loved all of it. I got a haircut and color with Erin. I had 10 inches cut to be donated (They will donate for you to Locks of Love, otherwise you can take your hair and donate it wherever you choose) and an all-over color. This mama wanted something easy to manage and shorter, since my son is starting to grab things. I absolutely loved what Erin did. She cut it how I wanted, and talked me into adding some layers since the ends were very heavy. The receptionists were also very friendly, happy, and helpful! Pricing is not bad and what I would expect from a day spa. I highly recommend this spa and salon, and I'd definitely come back if we ever do another girls' trip! Read Less

Not impressed at all. First haircut was not good at all. I felt like a frumpy 12 year old ugly girl.  I was suppose to get a hair reccommendation at the end of my hair cut and if I didn't I would get a discount..  didn't get either.  Even though I asked.  I had originally booked a hair color but Bc of the bad 1st service I called back to cxl.  I was asked to give them a second try, I said yes.  I believe in second chances.  The hair cut was good with Shannon. But the service from everyone else was NOT.  There was no "special feeling or treatment"  I was asked about my experience by friends and when I told them what happened they were surprised since fox and hounds is supposed to be the "posh" place in town.  Sorry but I would not recommend it. Stephanie did a great job with the spa manicure and spa pedicure. Lynsey's facial was great and she is clearly passionate at what she does!  Staff was all very friendly. Cool atmosphere. Only downfall was the noise in the massage rooms. You can hear everything outside the hall (talking, laughing, doors shutting, walking creaks on wooden floor) even with sea type music on. I've never heard anything but great things about this place, so I decided to try it out for a massage and facial for my birthday. The massage was okay-nothing bad or special. However, my facial was the worst I've ever gotten. There was no extraction, no exfoliation. She basically washed my face and then put a mask on, washed it off, and put another on. She left them on so long that I feel asleep, but that still wasn't enough to fill the whole hour and it was only a 45 min facial rather than 60. It wasn't very expensive, so I guess you get what you pay for, I was just disappointed in their spa services and won't be back. Read Less

I've been coming here off and on for various services over the years. They've done some remodeling but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have had a positive impact.Went for a massage and while it certainly wasn't the best one I've ever had it was just okay. There is a heavy focus on adding additional services once you are there. And the other reviews are accurate that you will hear a lot of noise during your massage.What really disappointed me today was the attitude of the staff. It took a good five minutes for anyone to say hello to me when I arrived and when someone did finally speak to me, it seemed like she was doing me a favor. As I was waiting another staff member walked by and pretty much looked me up and down in a very rude way, as though she didn't approve of what I had on, which was nice jeans and a casual top. Overall I left today feeling like this place thinks just a little too highly of itself and it was a huge turn off. Will not be returning. Read Less

Having just moved to town, I visited F&H for the first time for a Brazilian wax.  Right off, the receptionist greeted me with genuine warmth, offering me a drink and settling me in with the paperwork.Jessica, my esthetician, could not have been better.  She provided a numbing spray, which helped tremendously, and she also used hard wax, which, in my experience, is the least painful method, much less painful than soft wax with strips or sugaring.  We had a great conversation, which is important, because anything that keeps your mind off things is a great help.  She made me feel more comfortable than I have ever felt with a new esthetician.  I highly recommend F&H and Jessica.  Overall, it was a great experience. I went in for a pregnancy massage here since the website said they offered them. I'm still fairly new to the area so I called to see if they still did them. The girl on the phone was really nice and I specifically asked if they had the pregnancy bed where I could lay down on my stomach. She said they did and I requested that. When I got to the Studio it was a neat older atmosphere. The floors were wooden so they were really squeaky. You could hear people talking outside of the rooms (for me it's not a big deal since I have kids at home), but for some people looking for a really relaxing massage this isn't your place. You hear people walking around, doors closing, people talking, kids chatting, etc. The massage bed was warm so that was nice. The masseuse Amber was very nice and did a great job. The problem I had was that I didn't get the pregnancy bed, so I started out on my back (which was great for the neck/head massage) but then I was told to lay on my right side and then my left. I did get a pillow to put between my knees that went to my ankles but I felt duped from my massage because I was not able to lay down on my stomach with the bed that would accommodate that. I didn't realize until after I was already half way into the massage that I wasn't going to be flipping over but simply laying on the side. Which was the whole reason I didn't choose other locations for a pregnancy massage. So if you don't mind the distractions and don't mind not getting what you've requested then this is your place. If you're expecting a quiet, relaxing atmosphere and if you're pregnant and want the pregnancy bed then I would suggest going somewhere else or ensure before laying down that you're getting what you expect. Would I go back? Maybe for a hair cut but not another massage. Read Less

I get my nails done here and my hair done someplace else.  All of their nail techs are great, you can't go wrong.  Where you can go wrong is when they schedule you with one of the hair stylists that also do nails - they are not as professional.  Ask for one of the dedicated techs (Darlene, Stephanie, Marissa, and a couple others)  They have good massage chairs, a great polish selection, and everything has always been clean.  I got my hair cut and colored once when I first moved to the area and was not impressed; the stylist was 20 and from a nearby podunk town, and my highlights ended up looking, um, not stylish.  I know they have great stylists, just ask for one with more experience! Went here for the first time recently, and had an overall good experience. I think the most important thing for a hair salon is customer service, and it seems that the management at Fox and Hounds would agree. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. Great Job.Prices are a little above average but not by much. There are certainly more expensive places in Bloomington. All things considered, I had a positive first experience, though I don't plan on going back. First Edition is just a little more expensive and much smaller and intimate; though if I ever need a back up this is it. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. Read Less

I booked appointments for pedicures for my friend and I last week.  The staff was helpful by most standards but they were not interested in really being enthusiastic about your presence or questions.We had good pedicures.  I cannot complain about the cleanliness, technique or ambience.My negatives were the bathroom was overflowing and smelled terrible.  So bad we had to hold our breath while going to the bathroom.  We complained at the front desk - they gave us the impression that this is a frequent concern.  The bathroom was not the cleanest bathroom I have been in.The other issue I have is I called and booked an appointment over the phone, the same issue stands if you book through their website.  They do not indicate the price differences.  I was billed $12 different then my friend because she had a Level 3 Pedicure person and I had a Level 1.  Never at any point while online booking the appointment or calling to change/confirm the appointment was this made clear nor was it even indicated as something they do.
