My mom and I come here all the time and they usually do a fair job.  However, today when we went in for pedicures, my mom was not pleased with her experience due to her pedicurist's negligence.  The shop was crowded, so I began my deluxe pedicure well before my mom since only one seat was open. The older women who took my mom about 5 minutes later rushed the cleaning process and massaging and slapped some rhinestones on in terrible form.  The rhinestones weren't even in a straight line like they were supposed to be.  Even though I had started mine 5 minutes before my mom, she finished a good 10 minutes before I had.  Definitely just trying to rush their customers through and not making an effort to do a decent job. This is my favorite nail salon in Kailua. For 2 years I have gone to Danny. He is quick to respond to texts for scheduling. He does great unique nail art. His work is unmatched and professional. So I don't usually go here, I thought it would be a good experience but it wasn't. I messaged Danny asking him if he had any openings for that day and he didn't reply. So I just went in. There was no one in there getting anything done. All the workers including Danny were just chilling sitting around on their phones. Danny was playing the guitar and singing. I walk in and no one greeted me so I asked can I get acrylic and gel done. They sat me down. I got sat down by Andy. He was nice but didn't say much. I showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted and that is not what I got. At all. All the nails on my left had were shorter than the nails on my right hand and my middle nail on my left hand was shorter that the rest of my nails. Even tho I told him, he didn't do anything about it. I left very disappointed and will never go back because this place isn't as good as you think it is. They don't care about their customers and Danny will not take the fault as being the owner if his workers mess up because he thinks he's top sh*t. Oh well. Never going there again. Read Less

Great first time experience. They're very friendly and comedians. I love how danny did my nails. I guess the only think i didnt like was that it was 2 hours. Visited this randomly on my last trip and I am so glad I did! I made a smart decision going for the gel and it was amazing. I don't remember the technician's name but he did an amazing job. Disappointing. The name of if the company is accurate for sure. But friendly only goes so far if the service is sub par. And it was. 40 dollars for a "delux" pedicure ended up being a mediocre pedicure. The extra 15 bucks was for a mask. No massage, no lotion, and not much else in the way of quality. I have an allergic reaction to acrylic most times but some how some way Danny works his magic and I can ware the nails for quite a few months before it starts to irritate my skin. All I can say is wow! First time at this salon and it's honestly one of the nicest I've been to. It's very clean and well decorated. I booked a 5:00 appt at 12:30. Then when I arrived 20 minutes early they got me seated right away and my nails were being done within 5 minutes. Andy was my nail tech and holy cow, he is an artist! He was very gentle, worked quickly, but not rushed, and paid close attention to detail! He picked the perfect colors for the design I wanted and got the shape and length just right. I'm just in awe that he did this Disney theme so well. It was effortless on his part. The girl next to me was watching too. I will absolutely be going back to them! Oh, and it's VERY fairly priced. Came to this nail salon yesterday because I had an appointment with Danny at 3pm. I'm looking for a new nail technician because my usual is getting into a new career, all of my first choices were booked out, Danny was the only one with availability and judging by his work on ig it didn't look too bad. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment and he was still working on a client, which is normal I understand salons can get busy and appointments get pushed back. A lady asked if I wanted a pedicure as well and I said maybe after my nails if I still have time, she said we can do your pedicure first Danny is almost done. I got the deluxe pedicure (if that's what I'd even call it) which lasted about 30 mins. This was the worst, rushed, half ass pedicure I have ever received. She also did something to the side of my toe that it stung putting it back in the water and is now red and swollen. It came out to about $50, I wouldn't have even paid $10 for this service. Towards the end of this 30 min pedicure I see Danny is finally done with his client and then begins working on another customer! After I get up and go to the register to pay, the lady comes to me and says Danny is almost done, again. No thanks, I had an appt at 3pm and it's now 340pm and he's still not ready. What's the point of an appointment? He has no respect for his customers time and has horrible business ethics. For the record I live in town, and basically drove all the way to Kailua for this crap of a job pedicure. You're better off going to any salon in town, I've tried a few and their pedicure service exceeds this place 10x (and they're cheaper). This place is a joke. The owner thinks he is the shit. He is a great nail artist but if you have bad attitude , poor customer service and zero integrity then you don't have anything. I started writing a review which is turning into a long waste of my time. So many things went wrong with our nail experience on 2 separate occasions. My full set of filled nails were all broken within days. I have never to this day been reimbursed or corrected for this nail mess even though I was told i would be. All was good initially and we made an appt. for the repair for my nails and a fill for my daughter. unfortunately the day of our appt my poor daughter came down with terrible stomach virus. So we had to cancel. A few days later I was reaching out to danny to reschedule this redo and fill  now that daughter was well. At this point I was completed ghosted. danny didn't reply to any of my calls for 2 weeks. This was very poor customer service and a slap in the face. Since Danny the owner never replied to my repeated calls we had another gentlemen at the shop Andy fill my daughters nails.  he was incompetent with nail design,paint and gems. Shape length and design was not ok and bubbles in the paint. Along with that the gal that I asked to take off my nails since Danny never got back to me to redo/fix them/reimburse me was ripping off my acrylic and made me bleed. It was all super weird bc while there Danny never even acknowledged me and or made any attempt to not charge me for the girl removing the acrylic on my nails that he was supposed to fix. So I ended up paying $35 for that service. After that we left so unsatisfied and still wanting danny to redo my nails and now fix my daughters botched job because I was certain he was a good man and wanted to not represent his business this way. when I txt danny to ask him to touch up my daughters nails that Andy ruined he said no and that Andy can do that. And the reason he is refusing business to me and my daughter is because I canceled on him. Again I will say I had to cancel one appt regretfully when my poor 13 year old  daughter had the stomach flu. So basically I still haven't been reimbursed/repaired by this shop for my broken set and have been refused service by Danny the owner bc I had to cancel an appt due to my child being ill. Long story tried to shorten.. If you care about choosing a business that does the right thing and has Integrity and good customer service then this shop is NOT for you. Read Less

After a beach day in Kailua, I decided to try and see my old nail gal that moved to a nail salon in Kailua. Sadly, she wasn't working today so I headed to the next closest salon. I arrived without an appointment and was quickly serviced. My nail technician was Andy and he quickly got to work on my nails. Thoroughly impressed with my fill and his work, I find out at the end of my fill he's actually the father of my nail gal! I had to admit to him that I only stopped to do my nails in Kailua to see her. Lucky me to stumble into another salon to have her dad do my nails! After my fill I had a deluxe pedicure. I have to say that Andy gives an awesome foot massage! I left the salon relaxed with beautiful nails. Brought my daughter here to get her nails done before school starts. We have came here a few times with in the past few years. There was no wait which was good but the lady who did my daughters nails was unprofessional. She kept trying to check her phone after everything she was doing and then when she painted her nails and was done you could still see the nails underneath the paint. When she came outside and the sun hit her nails oh it looked so bad. So I took my daughter back in and asked if they would put another coat of paint on and walked back out side with my sons. My daughter told me the lady had an attitude when painting her nails again and when she was talking to a co worker that she was rolling her eyes. My kid is 16 but she's quiet and shy and doesn't like confrontation so she waited till we was home to tell me how the lady doing her nails acted! My poor babygirl thought I would cause a seen. Made an appointment with Danny over social media/text after looking at his amazing work on Instagram. Danny is very skilled and takes 45min-1 hour for what other nail techs take 3 hours for. I like that these nails are nice and thin and not chunky and he is very skilled in designs. I am a very simple and minimalistic person and he achieved that look on my nails as well. He will now have me as a loyal client and I will never let anyone else touch my nails from this point on! Read Less

I just went here about an hour ago with my mom, we have been here before and had a good experience. Today was not as great as last time. I had Andy, we didn't talk much when he was putting on the acrylic set. They couldn't find the nail polish color I picked out so I pointed to another on behind his station asking if I could have the lavender instead. He had a hard time getting the one I want and I was kind of confused and I said "the light purple" thinking maybe that one makes more sense and we were both getting frustrated so I went back to grab it. After he put the polish and top coat on, he grabbed my things and walked me over to the dyer. He set if for 4 minutes and then tried to explain that I had to set it for more time once it finished. I was kind of confused why I had to set it again once it went off because he was just sitting in a pedi chair relaxing instead of making sure my nails dried alright. I must have bumped a nail on something because I had noticed that the polish was a little messed up and he came over with a top coat and told me to dry it some more and that I must have touched it and not to touch it, which I insisted that I did not touch it and messed it up on purpose. That didn't fix it and I asked him if he could redo the polish on the nail. He said he didn't see anything wrong with it but my mom came over and agreed with me once she saw that something was wrong. I'm not sure if he couldn't see where it was messed up or just didn't want to fix it but eventually he brought the polish and topcoat over to paint on top of the messed up part instead of taking it off. I set the dryer for another 4 minutes and we left after that because I really just wanted to leave after this strange experience. In the end, I ended up paying 47 for my acrylic set with regular polish, I'm not sure if that was a good deal or not, but my mother and I had a pretty bad experience and will not be returning. For a place named Friendly Nails, I would not describe the service there as friendly. I gave two stars because my nails ended up nice but the experience was not worth the money. Read Less

It smelled horrible in this place! The fumes were the worst I've ever experienced in a nail salon. I feel like I lost a year of my life just being in there for an hour. I had to ask them to open the door, which they did but they had no fans on and clearly were doing nothing to get the toxic fumes out. Also the price for a gel pedi was very high i thought, $50.00. That's the most I've paid on island. Especially for a run down tiny salon like this one. The girl that did my nails did a nice job but the smell ruined the experience. This place was awesome! Andy did a fantastic job on my nails! Danny pulled out his karaoke microphone and handed it to me! I sang George Michael careless whisper! it was an awesome day! I got a gel fill and a petty, with all of my artwork on my hands and toes the price was $94 I don't know if this is the average price in Hawaii, in comparison to my California price I think it's about right. I was worried that I wasn't going to find a good place to do my nails because I was so used to going to my regular salon in California. There is a nail wizard in Kailua and his name is Danny.  I've struggled with short, flat nailbeds my whole life and trying to explain my concerns to my nail techs has seldom been beneficial.  The final product is normally bulky and stumpy looking.  NEVER AGAIN.  I was a little nervous after reading the reviews for Happiness Nails.  I had made the mistake of asking for a full set at another shop and THEY HAD TO GO.  I had read that happiness nail pulls off acrylic vice soak off.  Scary.  When I showed Danny my nightmare, he recommended removal. Yes, he peeled them off.  But he could see how nervous I was and acknowledged that.  He told me jokes and talked me through the process and promised my nails would be ok.  Soon after they were all off I watched as this nail Picasso went to work on my ten unfortunate little canvases.  Pure genius. So it was my first time there and I have a 2 month old that I brought because he is usually so good and sleeps but when I got there the lady had started on my nails and my baby started to cry and be very fussy. The ladies who worked there that weren't busy picked him up for me and watched him while I did my nails. They were honestly so nice and patient with me! I went in for an eyebrow wax.  Plenty of parking behind the building.  When you walk in the overwhelming smell of acetone hits you in the face.  It's so strong I don't think I'd come back for a pedicure to have to breathe that air. The service was good and quick. No waiting. Good. They do not allow you to put a tip on your debit card.  That would have been good to know in advance.  There was no sign.  Overall adequate if you're in the area but I wouldn't make it my regular spot. I have gone to this place plenty of times and I used to really love getting my nails done here with Andy. But this last time that I went, I had French acrylic nails and asked to have them removed so that I could just get a natural nail with pink acrylic and he starts to manually tugging and ripping off my nails and he broke one of my real nails and I started bleeding. I noticed another nail technician also manually tugging and pulling off my friends nails. It was very painful and ladies it should never be painful. It's been a week and my nails look old. I always pay $52 and though it's pricey I am okay with it because I'm always super content with my nails. and it was a horrible experience and it's never happened before. I am very disappointed. So I suggest not going expecting to have your nails removed. On another note don't go when they're busy and don't go when they're near closing time, they will rush you through and it's the worst. I've experienced that with Andy and when I got home I noticed he didn't paint my full nail with the top coat and parts of my nails weren't shiny. Read Less

Designs that would probably take other nail techs 5 mins would probably take him half the time or less... Book him! You won't regret it!!! I've been going to Danny for years following him from Hawaii Kai Nail Care (I live in McCully!). He always does a great job on my nails. Since I can never decide what design I want or color, I always let him make the decision. I have never been disappointed! People complain about workmanship at other salons where their manicure/designs will chip/peel after a week or two. When Danny does your nails - you will still get compliments at 6 weeks! I did! Today, I officially declared the start of my birthday week.  The first thing I wanted to do was get a mani/pedi.  I needed that pampering after a hard week.  I was too lazy to look around, so I checked out Yelp to see what was close by.  Friendly Nails came up & off I went.  I took my middle child with me because she was complaining about her nails.  Friendly Nails is located in Kailua across from Safeway and next to Down to Earth.  There are many stalls located in a parking lot behind the building.  The main entrance is facing Safeway.  We went in thru the side entrance that is in the corridor from the parking lot to the street.  As we were heading to the main entrance, I had stopped to look at the price list posted above the nail polish display rack.  As I was looking, one of the nail techs came out to talk to us.  She asked us if we had questions and gave us pricing.  She told us that there were open seats, and opened the door for us.  Yay!My daughter only wanted gel polish for her nails.  I opted for the gel mani, regular pedi.  My technician was Andy and he is FABULOUS!  He is friendly, funny, and really good at what he does.  He offered me the options for flowers or bling, but I declined.  (I'm just not into that.)  I never felt rushed even as the place filled up.  I definitely will be back.  If Andy is any indication of the service you get, I'm sure you will enjoy coming here, too! After walking around Kailua town, we decided to get a mani-pedi combo. We walked in here hoping to get in without an appointment. To our luck, there was only a 15min wait. It was really busy, but you don't feel rushed at all. Our technicians were Anna and Andy, both amazing! So happy with my experience here today! What better way to beat the Monday blues than with a little pampering? And this place hit the spot! I was greeted very nicely as I walked in the door and they seated me right away. I showed Sandy a picture of what I wanted and she got straight to work. She was friendly and talkative but not overly so (I'm one of those girls who doesn't want to chat the whole time I'm there, so Sandy was perfect). She was also very meticulous about getting the shape and length of the nails just right, which I absolutely LOVE. I've had my nails done so many times where they came out uneven and I have to go home and file them just to look straight! Not these! Sandy got them perfectly shaped right from the get go!Lastly, I'm a nail/cuticle biter (doh!)... Sandy noticed my cuticles were in pretty bad shape and was very careful with me. Unlike other salons where I almost always get a nick or cut, Sandy was so gentle, I came out unscathed. So any red spots you see in my picture were there BEFORE I saw her and she did an amazing job. Oh! And one more thing, she did the thickness of the acrylic JUST RIGHT! Not so thin that they feel flimsy, but not so thick they make my fingers throb and feel heavy. Nope. She got them perfectly in between. And so far, they stood up to me doing a little handy-man work (hanging mirrors) about 4 hours after so I am not worried at all that they will crack or anything! This is my fave nail spot in Kailua. They don't rush you or push for a high customer turnover like the shop next to Mexico Lindo. The shop itself is quite large with at least 10 spa pedicure chairs and at least 5 manicure stations.They have a pretty good selection of colors having a lot more options with sparkles or matte finish than most salons I've been to. Their prices are on average for Kailua, and I feel that they're on the lower end with a spa pedicure costing $25. All the people working there are extremely friendly, they speak English very well, and do a fantastic job on your nails.If I'm in Kailua and needing a pedicure this is the place to go!
