The overall atmosphere is really relaxing and nice and I feel like it'd be a great place to get a massage. I got my eyebrows waxed and though everyone was nice and the experience was good, my eyebrows weren't shaped at all and the wax really didn't do much. I wanted to give them another try, but after my second time getting my eyebrows waxed, which they still didn't shape correctly or at all, my brow/eye region starting swelling- I think I had a bad reaction of some kind. My face was swollen for days and when I called them about it, they offered no helpful advice, apologies, or refunds/complimentary services. Would not recommend this place for any facial wax. I got a gift card for graduation and was excited to finally use it. Now, I can't wait to just use up the card (just so I can get the moneys worth) so I don't have to deal with this place anymore. I got a wax that still left me with hair. Not only was this the most over priced service I have ever received it wasn't even worth the money. (I could get 3 waxes for the price of one and actually be hairless at many places in Athens). I think they were proud to say they provide "fast wax" but it seems like they should take their time and try harder to get everything. I grew my hair out to be longer than a grain of rice (instructions were to be as long as a grain of rice) and apparently this isn't long enough. Actually tell the customer what you expect so that we can get the service we pay for. Unfortunately, I left feeling like I could have done 1000x better myself or gone elsewhere and that my money went to waste. I am in love with Urban Sanctuary. As soon as you enter, you can see the impressive selection of beauty products they carry, from bath bombs, scrubs, facial products, and the like. The color and decor is soothing with neutral tones, yet modern and trendy. I also love the fact that the spa is in an old house. As for the staff, they are always very professional. Last Thursday a used a gift card for a mani pedi. When I booked the appointment I looked up the services included - I wasn't sure it was going to be worth $70. I asked the people if the service was really worth $70. They assured me that it was. When I arrived I was treated nicely- water, a neck warmer and then went into the tiny nail area. The technician was nice and the area was very clean. I received a careful and well done manicure and pedicure but I did not receive hand and arm massage, hot towels, massage or scrubs on my feet and lower legs. To be honest next time I won't waste my money. I could have gotten 3 mani pedis with much more benefit at the local TA salon. Oh well. Read Less

I have been to Urban Sanctuary at least 8 times over the last 2 years. I started going to help some severe shoulder pain I had due to a car accident about 10 years ago. The guy I was going to moved, but he did a fantastic job helping me with my shoulder pain. So, my first 6 experiences were great. I also took my mother in law to Urban Sanctuary when she was visiting. She said her massage was "ok". Not the best, but not the worst. The last 2 times, my husband and I went to have couples massages done. My first couples massage was decent. The masseuse really focused on my shoulder. My husband said his massage was pretty good. We both mentioned that once the massage was coming to an end, the person working on you then "rocked" you. It wasn't too bad, but noticeable. We were both not fans after getting a relaxing massage. But, we decided to give it another try. Maybe they were just having a bad day.... Our second couples massage was definitely not as good. We both requested the same people as before, so, we knew their techniques. Both massages were rushed. The "rocking" at the end of our massages were much more pronounced. It was not a relaxing experience at all. I don't know if they are told to shake and rock clients at the end to make sure they aren't sleeping or what. It is extremely off putting and I will not be going back. I don't know if all for the massages are done this way for consistency. If so, I think that doesn't make sense because I enjoy having a variety of techniques to choose from. Not every client wants the same massage and it doesn't necessarily work for every client. For the amount of money I have paid to get massages there for myself and my family members, I am disappointed. I had such great experiences here about 2 years ago, but it has gone down hill. The fragrance of different wonder filled things hit you when you first walk in. Very inviting and relaxing. I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner. My fiance surprised me with a gift certificate for a spa day here for my birthday and I was so excited to use it. I've only gotten a few massages before but had never experience a body scrub or facial (I'm definitely used to pedicures, though). I had no trouble booking the appointment and loved how the spa looked and smelled when I walked in. Everything was very relaxing and calm. I wasn't very impressed with the actual spa services, though. I was told to reserve 3 hours for the spa day. The body scrub was first and it was just ok. I didn't notice any difference in my skin after it was over and showered off and it wasn't relaxing (not sure what I was supposed to expect, but I decided to move on). The massage, which I was most looking forward to, was supposed to be neck, shoulders, and back. It ended up being a full body massage (arms and legs included) but the pressure was extremely light and it felt more like someone was just applying lotion/oil to my skin. It was shorter than the body scrub and before I knew it, the massage was over. I was then asked to sit in the back until it was time for my facial. I sat by myself for about 15-20 minutes. This was my first facial, but there wasn't anything done that I don't already do at home. It was relaxing, but my skin felt oily the rest of the day until I was able to go home and wash it for fear of my skin breaking out. The leftover oatmeal scrub smell wasn't the appealing either and luckily went away after one wash. I was then asked to sit and wait for another 15-20 minutes for the pedicure. Knowing how much pedicures cost here, I was not impressed. I have had much better pedicures other places in town. Overall, the facility and the staff are all nice. I was just disappointed in the spa day that I was looking forward to so much as a way to relax during wedding planning. I handed over the gift card at the end and apparently still had $10 leftover on it (I'm not sure why they told my fiance to pay a higher amount for it if it wasn't all needed). I had heard such great reviews about Urban Sanctuary but my experience sadly did not meet those reviews and expectations. Read Less

The absolute worst spa experience I've ever had. From the moment I walked in... it was different from any other spa experience I've had. We weren't greeted or attended to well. The massage was the worst I've ever had... and I've had 100's. I was never asked what kind of pressure I would like... what type of oils (not that that really matters, just unusual a bit) or anything actually. The pressure was MUCH too light. After saying something multiple times and NEVER being asked how the pressure was... I gave up. This is the first massage that I couldn't wait to get up off the table. When I checked out.... they asked how it was and I clearly was not happy but there was no response. I never have understood why people ask questions and don't know how to respond when you say something wasn't good. I asked to have a robe after I was done with the massage (they don't give you one prior to your treatment) and she looked at me like that was the oddest question. I wanted to take a shower and not get my clothes dirty with oil. Overall... not relaxing, welcoming and the massage itself could have been done by anyone! The house is cute! The spa "shop" is well equipped and fun to look at. The rooms are nice, along with the restrooms. The massage and staff.... not. I won't be back and I hate that it was that way. This place is magical.I have heard great things for a long time, but finally went to get a brow wax. First off, the building is beautiful. It has an old-timey, rustic feel, while being simultaneously immaculate and sleek. The waiting area is comfy and welcoming, and the lighting and music are tasteful and not over-the top. The room I was taken into for the wax was also beautiful and squeaky-clean. The staff was friendly and professional, and seemed to enjoy working there-my aesthetician raved about how much she loves her job. I have never personally been to Urban Sanctuary. So why am I writing a review? Or better yet, why should you read my review? Well, let me tell you.This review is written for everyone out there trying to decided whether they should get their spouse/parent/sibling/boss/significant other/neighbor/random person on the street an appointment for one of the services Urban Sanctuary offers. I have made appointments for my wife to go get massages/pedicures from Urban Sanctuary multiple times, and I am telling you Urban Sanctuary is FOR REAL. Every time my wife enters Urban Sanctuary, she emerges an entirely new person. Her normal radiance seems to have multiplied to the point there pure liquid serenity seeps from every pore. Instead of walking through our front door, she floats, leaving an effervesent trail of unadulterated zen. She also smells really good. Review from Beverly Hills, CA:   Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit Urban Sanctuary.    I absolutely LOVE the "Little house on the Prairie" feel when you first walk inside - so comfortable and familiar.  The lay-out was super warm/cozy, and I could have spent all day in there.    It looked like an awesome barn that had been restored - with loft rooms upstairs for facials or body-work, and the waiting area in the back was super comfy.  The team provided only the most outstanding care and customer service.  Now - let's get down to business.  As a corporate traveler and health/beauty professional myself - when I get a massage, I usually ask for deep tissue - which is rarely relaxing for me at all.  In fact - it's work and takes a lot of concentration and breathing.   So when I met my therapist My'Leka - I began wondering if she could handle it.      BELIEVE ME - she's a healer!!!!!!  Breathe-2, 3, 4, 5, 6.    My'Leka 's therepy is so on par for the treatments I've experienced around the world - and here she is in Athens, GA - AMAZING.         And I'm sure she can handle anything from relaxing to a total body work-out which is what I usually request.    Urban Sanctuary - LOVE LOVE LOVE.      And I can't wait to get back to see you. A dermatologist I know really enjoys regaling women with tales of the fungi and lost toe nails that he sees as a result of manicures and pedicures.  As a germaphobe, I took that to heart.  Urban Sanctuary is the only place I will get pedicures because their hygiene practices satisfy even my most neurotic desires.  And on top of that, my favorite masseuse (and you guessed it, I am also not crazy about being touched by strangers) Krista works there.  She is amazing and the only reason I made it through law school without a more serious drinking problem. Urban Sanctuary is AMAZING - and so appropriately named. From the moment you walk through their door, you feel like you've immediately escaped the rest of the world. There is a cozy relaxation room that you go to immediately and relax with warm shoulder/neck pillows that smell like of delicious spices. I had a scalp & neck massage with Jim and it was absolutely divine. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable and make you feel as if you're in someone's home. I've been for massages at a couple of other places in Athens over the past few months and Urban Sanctuary would be highest recommendation, hands down. For starters, I love this place! The first time I went for a pedicure and was a bit early. They have a lovely relaxation area with warm sage/lavender neck pillows that immediately relax you. The pedicure experience was great and I continue to make appts with the nail technician, who I now consider a confidante and therapist. =) The best part though, is there are not any gaseous fumes from the products and the pedicure can last for weeks at a time. My second visit was for a pedicure and then they were able to squeeze me in for an hour long massage, which has absolute heaven! They asked what I would like, and I just said....relieve my stress please. Between the massage itself and the carefully integrated aromatherapy, I was a bit nervous to drive when I left. I felt like all of my cares had left and was in a blissful daze for about 2 hours. Since then, I have gone for a shoulder/neck with Jim, which I highly recommend for anyone hunched over a computer all day like myself! He also taught me some great at-home stretches to help with unwanted knots and flexibility. Recently, I went for a facial with Jennifer, and it was an absolute pleasure. I added on the pumpkin peel which smelled like pie, and nowhere near as uncomfortable as the traditional non-organic peels out there. What can I say? I recently received a message from Urban Sanctuary Spa which elicited a state of complete, utter relaxation. Immediately upon entering the foyer of the spa, I recognized the soothing aromas of organic salts and soaps that invited my senses to escape reality. The atmosphere is welcoming and the customer service is one of the highest standards. Urban Sanctuary treated me like an individual and not just another random client. The therapist, Jenn, was very professional and made it a point to ask me what I was looking to get out of the appointment. She read my body language very well and focused on the muscles in my shoulders that held a fair amount of tension. She offered advice on different exercises to assist in releasing this tension in my spare time. This was by far the BEST experience. I found U.S. online and made an appt for a facial. The employees inside were very hospitable and kind from the moment I walked in. This place is great. It is super relaxing. I have been there twice and have great experiences both times. the last time my massage therapist was Lauren. Since the massage had been given to me as a gift they had written down info for a massage that was not what I wanted, not their mistake but the mistake of who gave it to me. Well not a problem Lauren took the time to ask me what i wanted and gave me a great massage!This place is in a older church. Everyone is very friendly and make sure you leave fully relaxed. While you are in your massage area there are no noises like I have found at other places where you can hear people talking or phones ringing.
