Haircut was good but I regret getting my hair colored here. Instead of removing red shades after two attempts, they colored my hair way too dark! I was lightening my hair little by little without bleaching over a year and they made it dark by their own decision. Unfortunately, in just 1 visit I experienced all the negative things posted regarding this hair salon. The visit began with the receptionist debating with me who would be my hairstylist. That very same receptionist also washes hair at the salon -- a disaster. There is not much intelligence to go on with hairwashing, right?! Boy I was wrong!!!!! The receptionist told me to go back to the seat while my hair was totally dripping water. What's more, she could not even wrap a towel tight on my head. So, the completely soaked towel landed on my shoulder and clothes.The haircut was done by a lady who walked in the store after I waited for her for 5 minutes. The lady seemed to be a temp. Niki did my hair and makeup for my engagement photos in Athens last October. I immediately loved her and appreciated her honesty about what my hair would and would not be able to do for my wedding. Since then, she helped me figure out how to keep my blonde hair healthy and she did an amazing job on hair extensions the week before my wedding. I was hesitant to come here because of the mixed reviews, especially with how they treat Groupon customers, but let me tell you, I was pleasantly surprised :) I made sure to read all the reviews and saw which names popped up positively, so I asked for Ashley since Nikki was booked. Ashley was nice, with a quiet personality, and most importantly she listened to me, and didn't treat me like an idiot. She did everything I asked exactly as I asked for it! She took her time and made sure I was happy with everything. It ended up perfect to me! I had brought my daughter, and when a song came on with explicit lyrics, Ashley asked them to change the channel, even though I didn't mind or mention it. That was an extra sensitive touch, I thought. I've never been so satisfied with a haircut AND customer service in my life. I've never been tempted to come back to the same place more than once, but this stylist changed that for me :) I would love to come back here, and I would recommend her services to anyone. Thought I had a great experience at Tame on my wedding day until after the wedding when my girlfriends informed me that they were all charged $70 for basic blow outs when my contract clearly stated $30!! Have been trying to work out a refund with them for 2 months and they still refuse to pay us the correct difference. Now I'm having to repay my girls out of pocket. I had such a great experience at tame! Alyssa was my hairstylists and I will definitely be going back just for her to do my hair. I went here for a blowout for my sisters 25th birthday. She curled my hair with a straightener which usually doesn't hold but it is the second day and my hair is still curled. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair! She also teased it a little to where it wasn't overdone. My friends and I also had mimosas while we got our hair done and did not feel like they wanted to rush us out the door after we got our hair done. As a preface, my salon/workplace was closed today so I tried out Tame for an emergency cut after butchering my bangs. Truth be told my stylist did a great job fixing them hence the second star I gave in my rating. However I couldn't believe what terrible "bedside manner" I received from her. Upon greeting both her and the receptionist when I walked through the door she simply pointed and said "second chair" to direct me to my seat. I sat down tentatively, already nervous about my messed up bangs. Needless today, based on our less than warm meeting, I promptly adjusted my expectations about any solace/words of comfort she might give to someone in my position. She proceeded to give me advice for cutting bangs but then undercut any sense of helpfulness by asking me "did you just decide to go in the bathroom and play around with the scissors?". If I wasn't already feeling insecure enough, that certainly did it. The rest of the appointment was punctuated by awkward silence and a general sense of judgement. Towards the end of the appointment she also let me know how dry my hair was, urging me to get a treatment done before "all of it just falls out" with at least 5 other similar comments to follow. In the spirit of fairness, I know the importance of constructive comments when it comes to hair as I have worked at a salon. Just the same I can appreciate a stylist encouraging treatments upon a client who needs it monitor the integrity of their hair. Simply put: honesty is not the issue. Truthfully I was the first one to ask myself if perhaps I was just being too sensitive. But upon further thinking I realized that this was simply not the case. The fact was: this staff member spoke to me in a way that was callous and insensitive, especially given the circumstances that prompted me to come in in the first place. I came in with a wedding party of about 5 and our appointment was for 11am, we waited for an hour and a half and I finally went up and asked when one of us would be seen. Instead of apologizing for the wait the response I got was " well did you tell them that you were in a hurry when you made the appointment?" ...Typically people make the appointment for a time that fits their schedule.... Obviously. The women I asked and entire staff were extremely rude to everyone. They were clearly understaffed and overbooked. On top of having to wait an hour and forty five minutes after our appointment was supposed to happen, our hair did not look good. We ended up going home to restyle our hair. I went for a haircut here on the spur of the moment. I was extremely impressed because they fit me right into their schedule. Plus, they definitely worked with me about prices. I am a college student with a budget, and it wasn't like I needed my hair washed and shampooed and all of that, so I asked for a dry cut, and they completely accommodated me with a cheaper price -- something that other salons in Athens weren't very keen on doing. Jessica did my hair and she did a fanta...stic job. I went from having dead hair almost to my waist to a beautiful edgy, layered look with sideswept bangs, and I completely love it. She checked in with me throughout and asked me what I liked and if she should change things, i.e. the length of my bangs as we went through the process of the haircut. She even helped me learn how to style my hair with the new cut. I love the haircut and she did a fabulous job! Not to mention, the atmosphere of this place is fantastic!! Id first like to say that the girls in the salon were very friendly and they treated me kindly. My stylist was very nice and seemed welcoming. My haircut however, was absolutely terrible. I discussed length and that I wanted it cut blunt and straight across and she seemed to understand what I was going for. Unfortunately I think half way through she just forgot what she was doing. My hair cut lasted all of five minutes. Which concerned me but I still held out hope. She never ...trimmed my long bangs to fit into the cut or anything. I couldn't see the cut because the mirror was behind me the entire time. She never checked with me about length or anything during. Then she asked how I styled my hair which I told her I do beachy waves and she said okay. She then curled it into ringlets and then just ran her fingers through it so it was poofy and very curly that I looked like a 5 year old. It was curled so much I could barely see the haircut. Just before she finished she checked something on one side and made some more cuts.. To one side only. Then didn't check anything else. She said she put in layers which I hadn't asked for and she said it was still "along the idea of blunt". Until I got home and washed and dried it myself then I could really see the actual cut. It is so much shorter than what we talked about. It is not straight across and blunt liked we talked about and completely uneven! There is a long piece underneath on the right side that sticks out. I purchased a Groupon to try a local salon. Tame has pretty good reviews on Facebook, Google, and Yelp, so I thought I'd give it a try. I've never had my hair professionally colored, nor have I been to an American based salon before.Groupon:My groupon consisted of color and cut. When I entered the store, the girl who was going to be working on my hair informed me that if I wanted a balayage that it would cost $30 extra, and for the length of my hair, another $20 (on Groupon they constantly advertise balayage, but there is no mention of the extra costs there). My friend who bought the same groupon said she was not charged extra, which is why I decided to give it a try, but low and behold. You know what, that's fine, I've already bought the groupon and was already sitting down. Experience: I asked for a trim of my long hair and a balayage. Trim: I asked for a basic trim, or about 1 inch off. I assume, easy enough. I'm not asking for something really bizarre? She literally only cuts the TOP portion of my hair and straight cut the rest. It's extremely choppy, jagged, and straight up looks like I asked my 10 year old cousin to do it for me. I didn't even realize it was this bad until I saw it today, which is why I decided to write a review. You might ask, why didn't I notice this in the salon or before? You sit facing AWAY from any mirrors at the salon, which is strange to begin with. I hated the haircut from the beginning and thought it was really bad, but I didn't know how bad it was until my mom pointed it out recently. See below for pictures.Balayage: not great, not terrible. I barely see the new color, but it's very similar to what I previously had. During the time the girl was dying my hair, she asked the owner many questions as to how to correctly balayage, what's the correct technique, how to put foil on, etc. she did not seem like she completely knew what she was doing and this should've been my sign. Sadly, my hair was curled at the end so even when looking in the mirror, it was hard to tell there was any issues. This entire experience makes me wary to try any new places again. Can we give Niki a medal? She's so talented in everything that she does. Let's start with their appointment system. You can either book an appointment online or over the phone, I made mine over the phone. They take your number and send you a TEXT of your stylist name and the time of your appointment, super convenient. I went in right on time and Niki sat me in her chair within minutes. They offer you drinks (soda and water i think) while you wait. I wanted a balayage and it didn't take her long to put my color in. I was a bit concerned because it only took her 10-15 minutes but I didn't say anything. Waited for about 40 minutes, she toned and washed my hair and gave it a quick blunt hair cut. The hair cut didn't take long either so i was more concerned but didn't say anything (I'm used to stylists taking 45 minutes to put in color+ 30-35 mins to cut hair). Also, note that I had to take off my glasses so I was basically blind the whole time. Then she gave me a blow out and asked if I wanted loose curls. Of course I wanted some curls! I finally put on my glasses and OMG, my hair looked AMAZING. I'm glad I let her do her job and not question her abilities. :)  Niki gave me the best color and hair cut ever. I have never used their cut or color services, but their make up and styling services are great! I have used them for every formal I've been to in Athens. I've only had one instance where my hair started to fall, but in all fairness, that was when I had pictures outside and several outfit changes. Nicole is super sweet! I highly recommend! Read Less

I wanted to give Tame a better review, but I've been struggling with my hair ever since I got it cut there. It looked great the day of, because of the blow out, but it's not really what I wanted, and I can't give myself a blowout every day. I also didn't get my hair cut by the person I scheduled my appointment with, which was frustrating. My appointment was for 1pm, and I was still waiting at 1:15, so I'm not sure if they felt like they just needed to get me in or what, but I'd rather have waited. I had never gotten my hair styled before for a big event. Usually because my hair can never hold a curl, so I iron straight. I had heard so much about the place, so I decided to try it for Formal. They were able to fit me in. From the receptionist to the stylists all the way up to the managers, everyone was so friendly and helpful. They truly know what they are doing. This place is such a bargain compared to the dry bar places I have looked up in the Atlanta are. They truly know what they are doing and how to run a successful business. My hair turned out stunning. I received many compliments on my hair, even asked if I had lightened it! I recommend this bar to anyone who is looking for a pick-me-up or is going to a special event. A convenient, inexpensive and friendly place to get your hair done. On a whim, we called to see what availability they had to fit us in on a Friday afternoon. To our surprise, they could accommodate us. My mom and I called and got same day service. Our stylist were both friendly and attentive. The customer service was great, they paid very close attention to what I was wishing for my hair and treated me very while. The end product has always been great an a very reasonable price.
