Go to Rhonda! She is amazing! I have mixed race hair that is relaxed, I went in for a dry cut & style and Rhonda nailed it! She is not only good at what she does but she has great attention to detail (which I'm always particular about) and talking to her is like talking to a friend I've known for years (and that was my first time ever having her as my stylist). I love the salon as a whole, very professional and a complete pampering experience. Well worth the price, which isn't bad considering the products used and the experience of the stylists. I've had a few other stylists that I've been very happy with, Bobby (master stylist that is no longer there) and most recently Dave (senior stylist who is also super talented and a treat to be around) and lastly Rhonda who was the cherry on the fantastic sundae of experiences that I've had over the past 4 years at this salon. DON'T go to Level Salon. This place is a joke. Over 200 dollars- before tip- to get my hair colored and then they proceeded to tell me that I needed a separate appointment for a hair cut. I had never been there, maybe they should have mentioned that when I booked the appointment. All I wanted was a trim, but they said they were to busy to do that. Overpriced, unaccomodating, and quite frankly mediocre at best. A very disappointing experience. I had to go over to Design Designs in Brandon to finish the job. I havent been to a salon in a very long time and knew I could trust a service from an aveda salon. Christopher cut my hair and was brilliant. My hair was exactly what I envisioned and more services or products were not pushed onto me nor was I pressured or convinced to make another appointment. I have had hair extensions for the greater part of the past two years. I had them removed a few months ago and found out the girl I had been going to at a different salon moved. My hair is pretty low maintenance...naturally blonde, never colored...but I was in need of a cut. (I have been putting off this cut for a month now out of fear of having to find a new stylist.)After doing some research and asking friends, I was decided on Level. I called to make an apportionment and was super excited to find that I could get in the very next day! (I initially looked to book online, but it only showed a couple appointments available over the span of the next 2 weeks, so I am glad I called and def recommend calling!)I was paired with Christopher and he is definitely my new go-to stylist!! I loved the personalization of the appointment, and that we sat down beforehand and looked at different pics and he gave me his professional suggestions. I also love that it's an Aveda salon because I do really like Aveda products. The entire experience was wonderful...from the consult, to the wash, to the hand massage, the blow dry, and of course, the cut! As I mentioned, I have naturally light blonde hair. I have a lot of it, but it is a very fine texture, so I am particular about how it's cut. I didn't even have to ask him to cut it dry, he already had planned to do so! I am in love with the shape and especially my ends!! I can tell he's a perfectionist, not to mention has a great personality!As for price, I believe my cut was $50 (I bought a couple products I liked so the final bill was more and I don't recall what the cut price came to). Also of note, I was in need of new products, but even without knowing this, I felt no pressure to buy anything like I have experienced at other places. I find the overall pricing to be extremely reasonable, especially for the south Tampa area.The salon is in a great location in Hyde Park and everyone was very friendly. I went into the shop as a walk-in on Friday, June 2. The receptionist scheduled me for a 5:15 appointment with Clarissa. I knew I wanted to cut about 10 inches of hair off, but was unsure at the time what I wanted other than for the end result to be shoulder length. Clarissa was EXTREMELY enthusiastic and helpful - she explained to me what looks would work best for my hair type/texture. She suggested a forward angled cut which kept the length I wanted in front while still allowing the amount I wanted off. She also threw in some trendy layers all while walking me through every step and telling me about the products she used. After the cut and a short photo shoot, all of the other stylists were so friendly and complimentary.  I am very happy with how my hair turned out as well as with the atmosphere in the shop. It was okay. I wasn't overly pleased with my haircut, but the staff was very nice and the facilities seemed clean. I had a wash, cut, and blowout and it was a little over $50 including the tip. I would recommend shelling out $10-20 more for another salon though. If I'm already spending $50 I want to be blown away, and I was not. Read Less

I had an excellent time with Clarissa. First, she knew she was going to be running a bit late, and texted me letting me know to come in later! That was awesome!! Things happen and the fact that I was made aware and didn't have to sit and wait at the salon was excellent. I came in with no idea what I wanted. I knew a couple things I did not want, but besides that I just knew I wanted a big change that would match my face. Clarissa was awesome! She gave me a few ideas for hairstyles, hair colors, showed me pictures, and we came up with a great look. Clarissa was super easy to talk to. It never felt forced or awkward. I could sit quietly if I wanted to, or talk if I wanted to, without feeling weird either way. She was super patient, worked really hard, and explained every part of the process as she was doing it. She knew I wanted to learn how to do "beach waves" at home, so she took her time while styling my hair to show me exactly how I should do it at home. It was great. Honestly, she made me feel more like a friend than a client and really made me feel like she cared about more than what I felt like in her chair, but also how to feel good about my hair when I was the one styling it at home. After a hectic month moving from NY to Wesley Chapel, I needed my hair done. I have very thick and difficult hair so I had a lot of anxiety around trying a new place. I yelp'd and googled Aveda concept salons in the area and I landed on Balance. I took a leap of faith and booked my appointment using their online booking system. After lots of text/email confirmations, the receptionist Eileen, who was so friendly, called the day before to see if I wanted to move my appointment up an hour. I took her up on that due to my difficult hair and it worked out great. The stylist that did my hair, Jason, was a great listener. We collaborated on a direction to go with the mess of 2 inch roots and hair that felt thick like a blanket on my head. He didn't make me feel rushed at all, he had a plan for my hair and he executed perfectly. It was an all around great experience from the Aveda products, to the friendly stylists, and you can tell they are very busy because with the 4 hours I was there, no one was waiting around for a client. I love this salon! I am very particular with my hair. I have long hair and its colored highlights and all. Found this place because its an Aveda salon. I moved here from jersey and had to find someone to do my hair quick. I met Carlos the owner great stylist , my husband gets his haircut with him. AWESOME CUT for my hubbs. He also is incredible with womens cuts and colors. Marcia , does my hair and she is Amazing. She knows what yo do with my hair, from the cuts to color and even more to make it feel and look healthy again! I've been to my fair share of hair salons in my 37 years, (though only one in FL) and the most I've ever been offered is a cup of tea or coffee. Today, I got a glass of chilled white wine with my haircut! Talk about being impressed! The lady next to me was drinking red. What a fantastic treat! (Apparently this is sort of a "thing" around here- upon talking to local friends- I love it!)This little Aveda salon was cute and friendly. Spoke with the owner and got my hair trimmed to help the growing out process by one of their newest stylists. (She's new to Tampa but NOT new to hair!! She used to own her own salon in Germany). Her name is Marcia and she did a great job. Although I was only there for a cut, when she was doing her consultation and I told her I liked low maintenance hair, she recommended that when I'm ready- we should do some kind of ombré thing so my roots could grow back out more naturally and not require me to keep coming back for touch-ups. That's my kind of thinking!Also, she gave an excellent hair washing- I'm not used to the stylist doing that- but I love a good scalp massage! When it was time to go, she did recommend that I switch to a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner due to moving here from MD and the FL weather being totally different, but she wasn't pushy about it- and at the time I didn't buy because I hadn't budgeted for it. But, I totally hate getting a hard sell, so I was pleased that neither she- nor the owner- did that. Makes it feel more consultative instead of self-serving. Anyway, I'll definitely be back! My sister just got her hair cut by Timothy, The customer service is amazing and her hair looks good. The price is little high but definitely worth it. I recommend definitely going for cut or if you are looking for change in your look (rather then going for a trim or touch up_. He'll tell you what will look good on you and what won't. Read Less

It is hard to find a good salon and stylist that you can stay with for any length of time. I think my only complaint about Balance is the high turnover rate among stylists. I do not think I have had the same stylist twice, because they kept leaving. However, the staff was always friendly when I came in the door, offering beverages and greeting me. The several stylists I had were friendly enough, and did a fine job cutting and highlighting my hair. I never had a problem with the way my hair was done, and the prices are reasonable. The interior is clean, has a nice atmosphere, and makes good use of the limited space. Read Less

Just got home from one of the best "first" haircut experiences! I heard about this salon from a friend who had just gotten a really cute haircut by Chelsea. I was searching for a new salon since I moved to Tampa Palms and long behold, there was Balance Salon Spa - a five minute drive from my place! I made my appointment earlier in the week and didn't have a hard time finding an appointment to fit my schedule. The salon had friendly staff, several beverage offerings (water, tea, coffee, soda and wine), hair products galore and your usual salon business.I didn't wait long for Chelsea to meet with me. We sat at her chair and discussed what I wanted to do with my hair. I also showed her pictures on pinterest of my new hairstyle. I wanted to go from really long hair down my back to a long bob at my collar bone. Chelsea hit the mark. I love my new hairstyle! She was kind enough to ask if I was ready to go short but brave enough to cut it all off and play around with it. She even put my hair into ponytails so they could be cut for donating. Let's not forget the awesome scalp massage while she washed my hair. Come to think about it, my brain still feels all relaxed and euphoric from the massage. I have plans to return to this salon. I went in for a cut and highlight on Saturday with Timothy and it was awesome!  Everyone there was friendly and the owner (Carlos) was present and cutting hair too.  Timothy provided a consultation before we started to understand what I wanted my hair to do and to tell me what he envisioned as a best cut for my face shape, hair type and to keep me looking my best.  I appreciate someone who is honest and has a conversation with you before they just start cutting.  A co-worker turned me on to the salon as she has gone there for years.  It was a drive for me, but I will go back.  Timothy also explained how to use a few products to achieve the salon look at home.  He spent time helping me understand how to style my hair and so far so good doing it on my own.  If you are looking for a positive experience, a great cut and color/highlight make an appt now as I'm sure Timothy has a full schedule.  Enjoy! On my first three visits to Balance Salon, I had three different people cut my hair. Now I'm not picky or anything but I was coming off an intense four year relationship with my last hair cutter (aka stylist). I knew everything about her, all her idiosyncrasies (yes, she does write poems to her dogs and have man problem, what stylist doesn't?). The only reason I left her in the first place was because she was getting a bit pricey and, more importantly, she was such a long drive away. I can't be going on two hour hair excursions with a kid at home. So I switched to Balance.First I ran through Jason, who I think left for a wrestling career(?). Then there was that other guy who cut my hair once and did not say much. He high tailed it quickly away. After they called and told me I would be seeing my third stylist in three visits, I grew a bit discouraged. All this in and out, one day stands had my head spinning. I can't handle cutting and running. I need some stability. Before biting the bullet and crawling back into the arms of my previous stylist, I decided to give Balance one more go of it. That is when Chelsea stepped in. She gave me water when I was thirsty. She offered shampoo when my hair was dirty. She provided head massages when my temples felt like they were going to explode. But above all, she offered safety and stability when everything else teetered precariously around me. My last three visits have been easy because I know what I'm getting and she knows how I like my hair shaped. If it wasn't for the turnover, I'd go with five stars because there really isn't anything not to like. They do a fine job with my hair at a slightly more affordable price than other places I've visited.
