I got a haircut here earlier this week when I was in town for work. I found the salon through Googling organic salons near downtown Miami. This salon does not use organic hair products, everything is synthetic.I knew walking into the appointment that a haircut and blowdry would be $110, but I wanted a nice experience, so I was ok with that. Everyone should note that a haircut does not include a blowdry. Every other high end salon that I have been to includes the blowdry with the haircut - it is PART of it, as you (both the stylist and the client) CANNOT see what's been done until the hair is dry and moving naturally.First, I was disappointed that upon arrival, I was not offered a beverage of any kind. Again, most high end salons offer coffee, wine, tea, etc.I did not receive much of a consultation. She asked where I parted my hair and then said, "so you just want the dead stuff off? I don't think we should do many layers, the blunt cut is what's in." That was the extent of the consultation. After I was finished (it was a fine haircut, nothing remarkable, I was in and out in less than an hour, the stylist did not check in with me at all during the cut, nor did she ask my opinion when it was over) I went up to pay.THIS IS WHY I AM REVIEWING POORLY.There is a mandatory 20% tip required. This is not discussed when making the appointment, it is not mentioned in the e-mail confirmation. This is a surprise fee at the end, when you are finished.I always tip, of course, but my tipping is (like all tipping should be) based on my experience. A big part of that is the head, neck, and scalp massage, which, again, should be included at all high end spa experiences. The massage was very quick and lackluster, and she did not give my head a good scrub. The water temperature varied between hot and cold, with no effort to keep it consistent. The tip is also dependent on the level of skill of the stylist, the time he or she takes in making sure that I am happy and that the haircut is thorough, and the consultation.I generally don't tip 20% at a salon unless I am completely wowed. The stylist is making WELL over minimum wage when giving high dollar services like this, so I don't think that it should be mandatory for me as a guest to be required to tip an additional 20%.Also, if it's mandatory, is ISN'T a tip, it is part of the service price and should legally be included. This is a clear bait and switch. I won't be returning to this spa, and should have read reviews before coming. Read Less
