If there was an option for NO stare I'd choose that. I came in for a simple eyebrow wax and the lady told me NO she can't do it because I have a small scar from stitches on my eyebrow (which I've had for the last 20+ years) and I've never had an issue with someone else waxing it. Way over priced! The place is dingy and OLD. Which doesn't mean everything as long as things are sanitary/clean, affordable and provides a job well-done. However, the equipment was old and rattled, the place was empty and the services were way over priced. I will not be back. It's a husband and wife, which were both present. But they were bored out of their minds! I was the only customer. I'm from Fort Lauderdale which is a more expensive city and the prices down there are more affordable! I have never had such a bad experience at a nail salon. They took an excruciatingly long time- over an hour and half to do a dip manicure and polish change on my toes. Since I was going to be late for another appointment, I hurried and paid right after my toes were done. They took my card, and said their machine was broken after making me wait another 15 minutes. This has never happened with my card before, and they tried it 3 different times, assuring me that even though my card would be charged over $150 now, I would be refunded in a couple of days. Eventually they told me to go to an ATM, which charged me an extra $3 since there aren't Chase banks in Gainesville. Read Less

I went here after having a bad experience at a nearby salon and reading the reviews on here. I can honestly say that I love my gel mani and pedi. The technician took his time, was very friendly, and left my nails looking amazing. I'm not one to leave reviews but they definitely deserve it. I'll definitely be coming back in the future. I had the french gel nails I had been wearing for more than two weeks removed and redone because my nails had grown out a bit. Two days later, it looks like my nails are turning orange! If I had known this was going to happen, I would have just kept the gel nails I had done somewhere else a little longer!! Great friendly service- John did an amazing job on my nails. My feet have never been softer. They have hundreds of polishes to choose from and many services as well. The only bad thing I can say about the place is the rudeness of the other customers that happened to be there. The staff handled the rude/hateful customers with grace- much better than I would have. They did a pretty good job on my nails. I got all of mine removed and they actually asked me if I wanted them soaked off or removed regularly. I opted for soaking them since my nails are very thin. They soaked them and then ground off the fake nails gradually. I never felt any pain which is especially welcome since some places I have been are not so gentle. Got black tips on my nails with pink overtones. The only complaint I have is that I had to wait a bit because their machine broke down and the aesthetic of the actual nail art. I would highly recommend Star Nails. I got a mani-pedi and I really like my nails. I have been to a few other places in Gainesville and the experience wasn't great and my nails were poorly done. After going to Star Nails I will never go anywhere else. I do not usually leave reviews but I was really impressed with the experience. The quality and customer service that you get is truly satisfactory. They take the time to do a detailed job and they are very friendly. This was the first time in a very long time that I didn't have to trim or touch up my nails after an appointment.The salon is clean and there are partition curtains between pedi stations. They noticed the dissatisfaction on our faces and was like you guys can wait 10 minutes and you can go somewhere else :/ wow. Then they tried to charge $19 for a wax that other places charge $10. I was recommended here by many friends and after trying out a few other places I finally decided to make a stop here. I am so glad I finally did! I got a full set (33$) and I am really happy with the results. Even though this place does not have nail shape diagrams, the technician knew what kind of shape I wanted even though I personally didn't even know what I was talking about. The polish selection is pretty decent also and I really admire the red walls of the interior. When I was visiting another customer was actually being very impatient and asking her technician to redo most of her set. Her technician (older woman) ended up moving to another customer while mine paused my nails to finish hers. I didn't mind but the place does seem a bit short staffed. There were only about three technicians working when I was here Saturday afternoon (Call ahead for an appointment before coming in!) Considering the situation I thought it was handled well. However, my total time in the salon ended up taking two hours which was not what I expected. I do recommend asking for the male technician. He seems very calm and nice. From other experiences I've heard, the other older woman technician does not seem to be as polite. Read Less

Great massage chairs, but the photo of the nail polish selection was not what they had in the salon. Poor color selection, polish bottles were off color (old) , nail techs were mediocre at their craft. We won't be back but I do have to say the place was clean and odor free. Read Less

Smh she told the man (in their language of course) to charge me $3 extra bc i wanted glitter on 1 finger (both hands)!!!! R u SERIOUS??? And i hate making stuff a race issue but it's funny how nasty they were being to me and the other black lady that came in there... they lied and told her their other lady couldn't do nails (with an attitude) & sent her off and when a Caucasian lady comes in there the same Asian lady that "couldn't" do nails did the lady nails smh last time i checked our money spends the same. These are very nice people and I went to them for over a year when I lived close by. I will be honest and tell you that I preferred to have the husband do my nails because he did a great job and no pain. I went about every two weeks for fills and I think the wife was jealous (without any good reason) and she got upset with him (and I could hear it even though different language) every time he would do my nails. It became not worth it to go there any longer and the drama. The wife was rough when she did my nails and charged extra...no clue why. Read Less

So I tried this place out because it had a 5 star review. My experience in no way reflected anything close to 5 stars. I walked in to get a fill-in where I was asked to pick a color, as with all salons, and have a seat. When the woman came over to do my nails I thanked her for fitting me in because they closed soon. She did not reply. She sat down and began working with out a word. She did not ask if I wanted a trim down, which I did. I said so and she ignored my request. She then went on to filing my nail bed so far down I was practically burning from the heat and pressed so hard when filing off my cuticles that I was bleeding. She showed NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of this even though I clearly flinched every time she broke skin. Which of course made the pain even worse as she put on the acrylic, paint, and acetone to remove the excess. I couldn't wait to leave. The only words that came out of her mouth were, "pay now". Absolutely ridiculous! They charged me $25 for the worst service of my life and I had scabs for nearly two weeks! Do not go here! Read Less

It's hard to find a really good nail salon that has a staff with super friendly personalities! I just moved here from south Florida, am in clinics at UF, and barely have any time to myself. I called them right before closing and they still said come on in, did an amazing job on my french shellacs and french pedi, and even my eyebrows!
