I get massages every 2 months. When on vacation I always get a "nice" massage. I also own and operate a business personally that is service oriented and has staff that interact with clients on a daily basis. Today I booked with Pink Shell resort because I wanted a nicer spa experience. I booked the 80 minute custom massage, with mandatory gratuity, it costs $240 total.
Pink Shell Aquagene Spa is on the 3rd floor of the hotel main building. The elevator is Excruciatingly slow. When I got out on the 3rd floor, I was immediately greeted with the smell of greasy cooking oil. Like I was in the hallway near a burger and fries joint. The hall is generally dingy. I found the spa door and the front gal was speaking with a current client, that is great! There was only one front person. I waited 6 minutes standing alone to be helped. She was friendly and nice. Got me all set up and I was ready to go for massage.
My massage therapist came to get me from the waiting room. Susie was nice, and the massage I got was fine, but it did not lend it'self to a 240 experience. She repeatedly mentioned how busy they had been lately, and how she was tired. ( all true I'm sure but not a good client experience) She told me some clients called and wanted her to work with them tonight, and she wanted to take care of them even though she's really tired, but who can pass up $200. (again reality, but shocking client interactions) This is not what I want or need to think about with low lights and a massage starting.
The massage it'self, while effective as a massage, was the most "rushed" feeling massage I have every gotten. Very hurried moves, fast. I got all my time, but the motions and movements where jerky, and I felt like I was in the way.
If she had just slowed down..... it would have been more relaxing.
As for the Spa.... the massage room had no tissue box, or mirror, when I got done and got re- robed. That is weird to me, Massage Heights the franchise for $54 per month per massage, has that.
The woman's shower/changing area: The bathroom was more like an airport bathroom. I needed some attention. Wall spots and debris and hair on the floor. Nothing SPA like. The changing/locker room needs to be detailed dusted, and vacuumed the edges of the carpet.
If this were a "regular joint" I'd pay $90 or $120 for a 90 minute massage, and tip and be happy ish. (still felt fast and rushed with her movements) But not compelled to leave a review. BECAUSE they charge more, and present as a luxury spa, I need to leave this and regret not going with a normal small massage therapist. Read Less
