I have been to this bar 4 times and am natural. Have a good experience every time I go. I schedule my appointment normally an hour or so before I need to be there and when I get there they are ready to take me. I love this being able to get in and get out. I called in advance and asked how long a blowout would take, and they said about 45 minutes so I scheduled my night around that. it took almost two hours. New Years Eve, 2017. That was just a couple months ago (ish)! Took me a while to get to this yelp review, but it stuck with me enough to put up a review. First of all, I'd scheduled makeup and hair appointments for 4pm, because the scheduler told me they closed at 7pm, and needed extra time so they could do both my updo and makeup and be done on time. I get there by 4pm, and the front desk person tells me I was actually not scheduled until 5pm. So fine, I go and get my nails done, since my NYE event doesn't start until 9pm anyway. I come back right at 4:50pm or so. First, I'm sitting and waiting for about an hour before someone actually acknowledges me and offers me a drink at the bar. And then it's another half hour or 45 minutes before I'm even seated in a chair.  When I'm seated in the chair is the special part. I ask for a 20's pin curl/wave updo. The girl who's supposed to do my hair straight up tells me she can curl my hair, but that she can't do updos. Seriously???? It's on your website! It's offered on the menu of services! And then she didn't even know that for updos you're actually not supposed to wash your hair. The owner's mother then ended up doing my hair. Then, I went to get my makeup done, and though it was technically done well, I'm not sure she knew how to adapt the particular 20's look to an Asian face. I ended up fixing it after I went home. Also, I couldn't help but keep thinking in my head, "Is she using the same brush on multiple people or are those single use brushes?"So by the time I got done, it was after 8pm. By the time I got home, it was somewhere in the vicinity of 9pm. I was supposed to be done by 7pm! So I'm trying to be understanding that it's New Years Eve, you get busy, and y'all problem solved, but I'm also just like, "this is your bread and butter!! If you know you messed up, shouldn't you also find a way to compensate your customers for making them wait almost 2 hours, and setting them up with someone who doesn't know how to do an updo?" Definitely not going back, though. I can buy my own drink somewhere else and get my updo done by folks who aren't going to look confused when I give them a picture of what I want. Read Less

I really enjoyed my visit here. A friend suggested we get our hair blown out and have a drink before an event. I've never been to drybar, so I can't provide a good comparison, but I liked the relaxed atmosphere here. The experience was both good and bad. The young lady's in the shop made it great the owner however was horrible. I explain that my 10 year old is natural and I prefered a black lady doing my childs hair. That's my choice and preference. At the very beginning when the owner sent my child to the back she said someone would do it, she never said she would. I step out and return 20 min later and indeed the owner was doing my childs hair. My daughter was not happy she was yanking ...her hair, and used the term matted to decribe my child's hair. I made it clear that I no longer wanted her doing my childs hair. She was not easy to work with and almost not willing to let someone else do my child's hair. If u are natural please ask for Shema. I almost feel bad cheating on my old stylist but she is back in Texas and I am here and so, so grateful to have found someone just as talented. I booked a last minute appointment for a cut and style and Nika was able to get me in right away for a 6:30 appointment. Don't be intimidated by all of the blowouts and words they have on the "menu", just tell her what you want and she will make the magic happen for you. Nika (and I hope I'm spelling her name right) was incredibly friendly, professional, and talented. I am going back to her for all of my special occasion hair needs. Also, they had Groupon's and Yelp check in discounts available which was awesome! My cut and style was very affordable.As for the salon itself, it's cool, trendy, if you care about that sort of thing. I just like a talented stylist, regardless if it's somewhere swanky or in someone's kitchen. This place serves drinks, although they were out of all of the cocktails and red wine by the time I got to my appointment. Didn't matter to me though. The chair is comfortable and it's in a good location with a ton of parking which they validate. It is not on a metro stop or anywhere near one, but there is a shuttle outside that will take you to the station I'm not sure what times they run. Read Less

This is a very nice salon and the service here is pretty good. I've been twice and my blow outs have come out nice - one by Neeka and one by Chantel. However, the management of the salon really needs some work. There is no front desk attendant so the stylists have to answer the phones in the middle of working on clients, so most of the time there's no answer if you call. The stylists also have to prepare the drinks. They do their best trying to wear all those hats but things don't run as timely or smoothly as they should because of this. My appointments started 20-30 minutes late both times. I've otherwise had good service and hope to keep coming back. Hopefully the salon can work out these kinks. Read Less

I usually dry and style my own hair, because I'm pretty low-maintenance... but sometimes, you need something classy for a special occasion!  My reunion was one of those times - after 20 years, I had to roll up looking like I was far more successful and put-together than I actually am.I hadn't seen this place tucked away in Ivy City, but it's a cute storefront across the street from Ulta.  I booked online, which I am always a fan of - none of that calling and not getting an answer or negotiating for 10 minutes between their calendar and yours.  Click, booked, done.  Cedric checked me in promptly and invited me to the bar for my included drink.  I was a little confused about whether you had to order the cocktail related to the style you wanted... but in the end, I got a tasty gin drink and a very lovely classic blowout with a bit of curl.Cedric was a delight to talk to, and our conversation got deep fast.  The time flew by and my hair looked amazing.  And the blowout lasted 4 days with a little dry shampoo and clever styling, despite the fact that two people spilled wine in my hair at the reunion!  Impressive work.  I'm not sure how often I'll need their services, but I was pleased and would go back if I did! OMG! I absolutely love this place! I have been living in DC for a few months now and needed to find a new hairstylist. Over the past few month I was doing my own hair but now I needed a trim and knew that I wouldn't be able to do that myself.I searched  and searched and searched some more for a stylist and somehow stumbled across this GEM! I was a little nervous because I have natural hair and sometimes that can be a challenge. My stylist, Nika, was absolutely amazing from start to end. She listened to my needs and took great care of my hair. My blow out lasted for over 3 weeks without having to re flat iron my hair! While I was there, I also met another stylist, Cedric and I only heard rave reviews about his work.They have  BAR! Yes, the bar is an awesome touch. I love the idea of having a cocktail while be serviced. I almost felt like I was at the spa. It was a very relaxing time.A great R&B playlist was playing through the salon also.The entire establishment was clean. My experience here was absolutely awesome. If you need a quick answer, yes they do natural hair and just book your appointment ASAP. The natural hair ladies did not lie about Cedric, he is an angel. There is metered street parking which is $2 per hour max 2 hours and a parking garage which is $7 for the day. It's on the same block as planet fitness and the pidizza place. The Mom's Organic Market and TJ Maxx are on the New York Ave street side. Upon walking in, I felt grown and sexy. Immediately I was checked-in, asked for my drink preference l then Cedric came whisked me away. The wash bowl and chair were comfortable. The playlist/music was perfect. I felt like I was at my girlfriend's house getting ready to go out. It definitely added to the sexy vibes. Cedric did a great job detangling, blowing out and trimming my hair. Yes they do trims, big chops and a host of other things, which is a plus in my book. I was in and out within about an hour and a half which is unheard of with my hair length and being a natural girl. For those with shoulder length hair, the lady next to me was in and out within an hour. Also if you put in notes on your appointment or have a groupon or anything preferences let the front desk know when you check-in and let your hair stylist know when you sit down. I'm not sure if they really pay attention to notes on reservations. All my life I've dreaded and avoided getting my hair done because it was always an unhappy all day affair but Sip and Dry has managed to make getting my hair done something I can actually look forward to not just a chore. I've never felt more beautiful getting my hair done. NEVER! I've tried many salons over the years and experienced burns, horrible hair cuts and even worse service but thank God the owner of Sip and Dry heard our cries and has created this lovely space where I can feel like the wonderful Queen I am. I had a really good experience here. The stylist I had was Nikka. She was very sweet and personable. She took great care of my natural hair. I came in with my hair already detangled because my hair can be tough to deal with at times. After she washed and conditioned my hair, she put my hair in twists after detangling. I was amazed. No other stylist has done this but she really seemed to know what to do with natural hair. I want to say the appointment lasted an hour and it looked nice at the end... Sometimes I'm not happy with the end result but I really loved it. Oh, I didn't experience any heat damaged either from this experience. My curls were back to normal after washing my hair. I'd definitely go back.P. S. I saw Cedric doing someone else's hair, and he's phenomenal, too! With Nikka or  Cedric, you won't go wrong.P. P. S. I visited Sip & Dry Bar the other day and let me tell you...it was such a great experience. First I checked in with Cedric at the front desk. Then he walked me over to the full bar. I've been addicted to HGTV lately and the decor in this place did not disappoint.Anyway, back to the story. I got my drink then was introduced to my stylist. She carried my drink for me to her station (it's the little things.) And let me tell you the stations are so cute too.Atmosphere-Everyone was really friendly. This wasn't like other salons I've been to where everyone is really gossipy and I appreciate that. We were all just having a great time getting beautified. It's the perfect girls night out. The playlist was great. Drake, Bryson Tiller, Sevyn Streeter. I was in the chair adding music to my own playlist lol.Fast but didn't feel rushed-My appointment was at 5. I think I walked through the door around 4:55 and they wasted no time getting the process started. I loved that. I was so afraid I'd be in this salon all night. When I used to get my hair done professionally, I remember arriving to your appointment, still having to wait on your stylist because she was doing your hair AND someone else's and spending hours upon hours in the chair. Not here! She got me in and out in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Y'all I have A LOT of hair. It's thick and I left out of the salon with sleek straight hair in 1 hour and 45 minutes. This is unheard of.Throughout the process, the owner made sure I was okay. Then informed me of the $5 happy hour drink specials. Can I just come here for the bar? Lol.My stylist may not have been the most gentle with the comb but I'm not tender headed so I was able to tough it out. She did put my hair into sections (natural girls-it's the little things ok) At the end, I got my ends trimmed and they look so good. I don't feel like she took too much off. Coming from a woman that is super particular about her 4a 4b THICK curls, I will be back! Basic hair fix. Drinks are good. staff is awesome. Decor makes you feel even better. The wash bowl allows you to put your feet up! The hair wash is not for ppl that love or need a good (elbow grease) hair wash. They put the soap in dance around your scalp, massage it and rinse you. Your done. Read Less

Getting a drink included with a blowout is pretty fantastic on its own, so when that hair turns out perfect & a second drink was $5 during happy hour - Worth it! Generally $48 seems a little much for a blow out, especially for a place a little out of the way but considering it's DC and it includes a cocktail that's practically a $30 blowout. Each time I visit Sip & Dry it's always a welcoming atmosphere! The decor is 😍 amazing and the drinks are always on point. The makeup artist is the best that I've ever seen! A full face beat doesn't look like layers of makeup but is seamless and very natural looking. They are constantly giving back to the community and are always supporting a good cause! The owner is the sweetest thing ever and is very knowledgeable about her services and products for all hair types. Loved loved loved my recent experience at Sip and Dry bar. I had an early Friday morning appt and both the receptionist/bartender and stylist were very welcoming and cheery. The blowout itself was great. The stylist listened to what I wanted and letMe mix and match styles rather than forcing me to choose off the preset blowout menu. The grand opening of Sip & Dry Bar in Ivy City was this week and I made sure to come out. I was actually the very first customer to experience the salon and I have to say, I was not disappointed. The Manager is amazing. She welcomes each customer like they are family and makes sure you are taken care of throughout your visit. Each service comes with a complimentary drink. The bartender wasn't there when I went the first time, so the owner made a good faith effort to make me a caiphiriña. It was not tasty... But luckily, on my second visit, the bartender made me a delicious concoction. The salon service all hair types and all curl patterns (including my super tight 4c curls). I was pleased with the final product and will keep coming back for blow outs. The only con was that the owner is very hands off. As the first customer, you would think he would have introduced himself to me or greeted me, but nothing. I let that slide because the rest of the staff is so amazing. Read Less
