I used to love this place. I went tonight for a gel manicure and pedicure, and it was horrible. I called ahead and made an appointment. I arrived early, was rushed into being seated for my manicure, didn't even pick my colors out. Halfway through they told me to sit for my pedicure and they would finish the manicure at the same time. Ok, I guess. The gel light used the power from the massage pedicure chair, so I couldn't use the chair. Seriously? I did overhead electrical wor...k today and half the reason I went was to sit and have my shoulders worked on while I relaxed. Instead I had to twist myself oddly to have my hands rushed through and I realized after she did one hand that the silver I picked out wasn't what she was putting on (what I got is a champagne color). And the pedicure was just bad. I asked for deluxe on the phone and was told "we don't have time" when I got there. My feet still feel like sandpaper, and because Cindy rushed me into being seated so I couldn't pick a color, they kept bringing me ones off the sample nails that they didn't actually offer when I picked one. The foot massages were terrible, I just picked a color I'm about to take off because after 3 attempts and being told, oh sorry we don't have that 1, I just gave up. $28 for a nothing pedicure and $40 for a gel manicure that's the wrong color. When I complained I got an "oh, sorry, bye!" I really hope getting one more customer in tonight was worth losing a customer that's been going there for over 3 years, because I won't be returning. So disappointed. Their quality isn't there anymore. I'll be going somewhere else tomorrow to get a pedicure that actually gets my feet smooth instead of having them still feel gross. I visited Silk Nails because my go-to salon had a wait. I requested a regular (non-UV gel) manicure to give my nails a break. Paid a little extra for the Essie Gel Couture polish. The tech did my nails like she had better places to be. It felt rushed, and the end result shows it. My polish was applied unevenly--you can actually see the lines where the second coat didn't make it all the way to the edge of the nail--and too thickly. It's bumpy and not super shiny. Honestly, this looks like a manicure I could have given myself. I didn't notice how awful it looked until I got home. Debating whether to go in to show them the lousy work and ask for a free do-over, or to just let others know and never go there again. Read Less

I have been to this nail salon many times, but I will not be back. As I am about to leave, the woman who did my nails scolded me on not tipping enough. The prices at this salon are already much higher then comparable salons in the West Hartford area, and I tipped 15% already. She berated me to the point where I was uncomfortable and ended up giving a 22% tip after not so great service. This is not a way to treat customers. Read Less

I've been going to this salon for fifteen years now and recently I choose one girl to do my nails and today she had an attitude first thing and then told me if I wasent goin to tip her 20% of an $84 check to not ask for her again!! That's extremely wrong and rude customer service! I've had issues in the past but with this girl never seen this side of her for no reason! So i had five bucks in cash and handed that to her as I always regardless tip her 5,she looks at the five bucks and rolls her eyes as if she wasent satisfied with ten percent so I said you know what you can have your attitude and give me my five bucks back and then proceeds to throw me the money back and walk away running her mouth ! I will never walk back into silk nails again because of her immature behavior and im not really missing out when she didn't even give her all and do the best job she could do and then on top was rushing me and had a tude half the time! The older woman is extremely rude and unprofessional. Came in for a wax and she kept changing the price because I had "a lot of hair," which was untrue. Another time I came in she rudely kept telling me to stop moving around even though I was sitting still. Won't be returning anymore. Read Less

I am normally a big fan of the Silk Nails on Farmington ave but decided to go to this location since I was already in Bishops corner. I'm a little sad about my decision. I haven't been out for a manicure in awhile and the woman doing my nails let out an audible sigh of distress. I mean, it's bad but come on, it's not like I have raptor claws. Embarrassed, I joked about having a baby now and letting myself go, which I think she only found half acceptable. I brought my own polish, the manicure was decent, but not the best. At the end, there were 8 of us crammed- literally crammed at the drying table which is comfortable at 4 and cozy at 6...8 was a lot. I didn't want to sit long with all of us breathing on each other so I did a quick dry and got out. Manicures are a reasonable price at $13, it was busy so I think for some people it's definitely their go-to salon. I may stick with the other one unless I'm feeling really lazy. Read Less

First time at Silk Nails with my friend. Like the service and the people was nice. My friend and I decided to treat ourselves. It was nice and we enjoyed our time. I had a male person doing my nails. His name is David. He was friendly and easy to talk to. He did a really good job with my toe nails and gave me a good massage.I would recommend my friends to come here. My friend and I came in on a Tuesday evening and sat down relatively quickly for a pedicure. The water was way too hot and that should have been my first sign. The woman took off my nail polish and started working her magic. When she busted out the buffer, she took one aggressive swipe and sliced my big toe. Now, this wasn't just a little slice, this bad boy would not stop bleeding. She was extremely apologetic but then asked if she can start on the other foot. Umm...no thanks!! I know it was probably an accident but wasn't too pleased with the pushiness to start on my next foot. I ended up having her just get me a bandaid and I stayed to chat with my friend. The manager came over and apologized and gave me a gift card which I probably won't use - so those who want it, message me and I'll send it to you!!!Overall, the place looks very clean and it seemed to have a steady flow of customers. Silk nails is my absolute favorite nail salon.  I go there on weekdays(it's busy on weekends) to treat myself to something special.  Lot's of people say that male workers don't do as good of a job as the female workers.  NOT TRUE HERE.  Everyone has excellent skills, and I feel confident.  Sometimes I even REQUEST the male worker!Polishes are high quality and last.  If they accidentally get a little bit on the finger (very rarely) they will either redo that nail or be super careful to get it off.  Truly amazing techniques and skills.  Wonderful (FREE) massages are included, moisturizing lotion, clipped, filed, painted in amy style you want with or without the design, and very good service.  Prices are a little high.  Is it worth it?  YOU BET! Came here via a gift card given to me by someone who said she had no use for it, but who doesn't have use for a free mani or pedi! Yes please! Came in on a cold Friday, didn't think too many people would be getting a pedi but they were quite busy. They offer a wide selection of colors. The only polishes (that i saw) they use are OPI and Essie, which i was pleased about, high quality stuff here.I was assigned a male technician which i wasn't too pleased about, I always feel like females would do a better job. However, he spent an extensive amount of time (more than anyone else around me at least) on my massage. It was great. And the polish job done was exceptional. Even at drying i was given a shoulder massage! Now thats 5 star treatment. But why the 3 stars? I usually sit back and relax in the massage chair as the technician goes about the cleaning, massage, and polish. However, i felt a weird friction when he was giving the massage, so i opened up my eyes. He had a bandaid around his hand....and as i continued watching, the bandaid had loosened during the massage due to moisture so he removed it....My god i wish he never removed it. There was what looked to be ring worm on his hand...it scared me. It's weeks later and my polish looks great and i don't have ring worm. So i'm happy, but mildly disgusted still. Definitely not okay. Great place to go and relax. The staff are very helpful, warm, and they make you feel comfortable. The work is done to your liking. I have going there since the shop has been in existence, and the service, the atmosphere continually changes for the better. Those other reviews must be from some disgruntled people. I know there are few more locations of Silk Nails throughout West Hartford area, but so far, I like this branch (Bishop's Corner) the most. I went there on weekdays, because I know this place gets very crowded over the weekends. I've got pedicures, manicures, and waxing done so far. I usually prefer female technicians at nails salons, because males tend to give 'unfinished' polishing job. This place was different. I happened to get a male techinician for my pedicure. Not just he gave me a strong and professional reflexology, he also did very clean and finished polishing job. The best part was the complimentary shoulder massage at the drying table. The drying table was little noisy, so it was little hard to have conversations with my friends.I have very sensitive skin, so I get very picky when it comes to waxing. I get burned very easily. After giving them to be very careful with my skin, I barely had red marks from the waxing. (I got eye brow and upper lip wax done) - even with the notice, I always get burned from other salons. I thought Silk Nails was fantastic. I came in because I was in the area and had some free time. I needed a leg wax and a pedicure. They took me in right away no wait.The leg wax was great. The woman was very thorough and even hand plucked out any stubborn leg hairs I had.Then the pedicure was heavenly. Not only did i get all the normal stuff and a neat job of painting the nails. I also got an oil treatment  and the longest foot massage I have ever had when getting a pedicure! After my nails were finished she took me over to the drying station and stuck my feet in the polish dryer. While they were drying I got a neck and shoulder massage. When it was time to go I was given flip flops to wear out, and not just those flimsy thin ones I get at most salons. Getting my nails done is one of the few indulgent things I do often.  I've been to lots of places all along the east coast and have a pretty good range of experiences to compare this to.In short: "Meh.... I've experienced better" hits it right on the head.  Overall, Silk Nails provides a pretty typical nail salon experience.  I definitely didn't leave planning on returning; which was disappointing because one of my good friends had highly recommended it to me.  The most frustrating thing (and what made me give it 2 stars instead of 3) was that the nail specialist absolutely mauled my cuticles!  It took weeks for them to heal, and I've never had issues with my cuticles before.Nevertheless, my so-so experience could have more to do with the individual nail specialist than the business overall... take it with a grain of salt :) Read Less
