I just moved to CT from out of state....Finding a good nail salon is as essential as finding a good Dentist, Doctor and hair stylist.
I found Banana Nails through the good reviews, and decided to give it a try. My first experience was good, like many new experiences I was a bit apprehensive but he assured me I was in good hands.
My nail preference, is simple, clean and classic, I tend to stick with the neutrals, with a preference for the natural pinks. I am loyal to my nail technicians; when I find one that can execute the quality and style of nails I stick to and recommend the business. I've been getting my nails done for 15 years, so I've had my share of experiences.
Pros: My first experience overall was good, the owner Paul and Sarah were very nice. I had a fill to my gel set, Paul shaped my nails beautifully; I would rate my satisfaction 4/5 when I left.
Less than a week later, 3 nails began to lift and the gel finish began to peel. I figured I'd give it a try because I came from another salon and products differ so I did not attribute it to Banana.
I happily returned to Banana Nails, and was greeted with a warm welcome. The shop was super busy given it was 3 days before Christmas, no worries we all want to look our best for the Holidays.
The reason I will never return. I simply stated that the finishing gel does not last, and that I would like them to use the gel powder as my finish rather than the gel polish. (this is the method my former nail technician used for the past 3 years). I tried their way my first visit it did not work. I work in a very professional environment and we are embarking upon our busy season, I need my nails to look good with no fuss. They kept saying they do not use that method and kept insisting they don't do it. The owner became very rude towards me, Sarah did not finish my nails, the shape of the nail was at an angle, she did not even do the lotion and hot towel at the end (which is typical to the gel service I get), she rudely kept speaking to the owner regarding my request and walked away... it was a very unprofessional way of handling a simple difference in preference of nail method. I was getting up to put my coat on, the owner rudely stated "you still have to pay", I simply asked " did I say or look like I was not going to pay". It was a poor job, and had it not been so busy I would have asked them to reshape my nails and just use clear polish.
I am a very reasonably person and I would not take advantage of anyones hard work. I simply would not patronize the establishment rather than make a scene about payment. I've never been treated in such a manner and could not understand why they reacted so harshly. In all fairness it was super busy and I am sure its a demanding time of year. I get it. But, losing your cool and not offering a solution is not the way to do business. I wish this business continued success and offer this review as an opportunity for growth. Its a very nice salon, clean and overall welcoming, unfortunately the owner allowed a minor disagreement to get out of hand. I called back, and he simply said, what do you want me to do i'm busy, no apology offered. My search for a new nail salon continues.
