I moved to New Haven a year ago and spent months popping around to different nail salons trying to find one I could call my own. I was underwhelmed at each and every one until I tried Chocolate. I'm writing this review in the pedicure chair right now. I've been coming regularly for a few months now and have nothing bad to say. The spa pedicures have all the bells and whistles....callus remover, hot towels, paraffin wax, leg mask, scrub, and (my favorite) a 10 minute massage *that they put a timer on for so you know they aren't skimping!*I've had several different nail techs and all have been great. I probably prefer the men a tad for the pedicures as I like a really strong massage. I'm a gel manicure gal, but I'm really picky about them and too often nail techs rush. If even the *slightest* bit of gel is on the skin it will lift and/or get caught in my hair, etc. It bugs me so much I bought my own light and gel colors to do my own. Sometime so like to feel pampered though! I've had gels 4 times at chocolate with 3 different techs and each time they have been perfect!I prefer gels for the longevity, but I've had regular nail polish put on here too and even it has lasted a full week! Incredible for someone as hard on her nails (and a picker) like me.Chocolate is a bit pricier than some "Asian nail salons", but the quality of their work and the whole experience make it worth it. I've been coming here for years. All the employees are nice, and hard working. I get a quality manicure and pedicure every time. The prices are awesome too. Highly recommend. Anyone new to the area I always suggest chocolate! And the chocolate spa pedicure is amazing. Read Less

The service and quality has drastasically declined in the last few months. I am not very comfortable with showing my feet around anyone that Isnt a relative, but after a visit to chocolate spa I was a bit less self-conscious about my feet. My first experience here was ok, so I wanted to do a spa day with my daughter here again, it was worse. I was rushed and over charged, my service was not what I expected, I asked them (the workers) were they racing each to see who finish first. Never again will I go back. The older lady that did my daughter nails told me to make sure I give the guy who did my daughter pedicure a tip, that pushed me over the edge, No one got tips, that was my experience. Service is mostly a miss and they are bit shady when charging. Twice they have "accidentally" over charged me. The first time they did it, it was a shit show; they over charged me by $100 because the girl who was doing my nails didn't speak English well and claims to have misunderstood how much I wanted on my gift card. They had trouble figuring out how to reverse the charge but when they finally did figure it out, they were apologetic. I forgave them, gave them the benefit of the doubt... honest mistake, right? Sigh.Went back, like a masochistic, to use the rest of my gift card. The lady who did my nails this time was a straight up smart ass. She gave me a stink look and told me the color I chose was too light. Well thank you Ms. Fashionista! No one asked you though. This ray of sunshine then went on to complain that  my hand was too stiff and heavy. Is this chick for real? I was counting the minutes to get out of there.Finally, time to pay. I look at the bill and its over by $5. I pointed it out to her and they first thing out her mouth was, "I was tried when I was doing the math, its not my money, I wasn't paying attention." Thank God for restraint and grace because I was one second for dishing out a few choice words for this genius but I thought this review would be a better response.They won't be seeing anymore of my money. A friend of mine bought me a gift card for this place as a gift, and as someone who had never gotten my nails done, I was pretty excited to use it. The first two times I came here, the manicures were perfect and I had no complaints.The third time I came here, my nails were chipped within two days.The last time I came here (today), the lady seemed very rushed. I had been sitting under the nail dryer for what seemed like an exceedingly long time, with no other customers besides a couple people that got their eyebrows done. Everyone was just sitting around talking.I looked around, but didn't see the girl who had done my nails. Finally I took out my phone- my nails were dry, and I'd been sitting there for an hour. I just got up and left. I don't know where my manicurist went, but obviously she wasn't interested in getting a tip. I have $7 left on my gift card- not sure if I'll go back. Read Less

It's ok. They have a good range of colours to choose from and a good menu of services, such as waxing, massages, and nails. I always feel like they just want to get your money and get you out though. They don't make it a relaxing experience. They hurry you in, do their job quickly, and try to move you out the exit. Read Less
