I used to visit Pink Nails on a normal basis and see a Hispanic nail tech who did my nails beautifully I was happy every visit. Unfortunately I had to stop getting my nails done because it was getting costly. Less than 2 weeks ago I went back thinking I was going to be satisfied once again with their services. I had a different nail tech do a full set of UV gel with tips. She first told me the cost would be $80 I said that is too expensive and I never paid that much there before so she then said I can do it for $70 today. That should of been a red flag to me right there. I was in the mood to treat myself so I went with it. When I left not even an hour later I noticed they were not smooth and I felt like I was rushed out. She told me I wouldn’t need a fill for 3 weeks. Now it hasn’t even been 2 weeks and they are already lifting to the point of almost popping off! I will start by saying that I've gotten great manicures at Pink Nails but unfortunately it is an establishment that discriminates against black people. The manager (and possibly the owner) a man humiliated, embarrassed and disrespected me last Friday. I called earlier that day to make an appointment with my preferred nail technician and he made an appointment for me for 3:30 pm. When I arrived at 3:30 pm the shop was very busy. He told me that he had made a mistake and that she had another appointment at that time but that I could wait. I agreed to wait to see whomever was free. After I arrived, two other young ladies arrived who (based on appearance) were not black. He quickly asked them to select nail colors while I sat between them and he offered me nothing (although I had arrived before). After several minutes passed three school-aged white girls came in and they went right to looking at nail colors although they did not appear to have appointments.. Several more minutes passed and he approached me and asked me STEP OUTSIDE TO SPEAK WITH HIM!!!!! I was embarrassed but allowed him to escort me outside. He told me that he the shop was too busy as more people had arrived and asked me to reschedule my appointment. I have never been escorted out of a nail shop and asked to leave, especially after I had called to make an appointment (which he cancelled once I got there). I was shocked and too humiliated to disagree so I allowed him to make another appointment for me all whilst the others-who had arrived after me and had not been asked to leave-watched. I try to be thoughtful before I throw around words like "prejudice" and "racist" but I have no other way to explain this incident. I will never return to Pink Nails for service and I urge people of color to find another establishment that respects non-white individuals and our buying potential. Today I had a manicure and pedicure. She never used cleanser or scrub for my feet or legs like as if she forgot. She only put tons of oil and a tiny bit of lotion. I even told her she didn't scrub and asked her for a towel to wipe off all the oil and she looked co fused so I did it myself. She's an older Asian woman who sits on the end. She acted like I was bothering her...As far as the manicure the polish was old and she put a few drops of thinner in it and as she pained it came out clumpy. I actually had to pull my finger away and say NO. She would even look for another polish she made me find a similar one. Once again as if I was a bother...Then when others were getting massages  I got absolutely nothing. She didn't even take the paper off my toes. In fact she got oil all over my expensive sandals. Second time I got her and she did it twice so it wasn't a mistake. Then she went to go talk on the phone. My experience was unprofessional and and unsanitary!!!! Two thumbs down Read Less

I honestly can't understand all the negative reviews. I've been going here for years and I have ZERO complaints. Sometimes there is a wait, but that's because they're busy, and they're busy because they're GOOD. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. My favorite is Alex, but honestly, they're all good. I came in on a Monday afternoon as a walk-in for a gel manicure, and was immediately able to be seated and worked upon. My manicure came out great (almost two weeks later it is still perfect looking), and overall I am happy with my experience here. The best nail salon in New Haven County!I have been coming here EVERY 2 WEEKS for the last 5 years and I will continue for as long as I can!It is clean and comfortable. WARNING!!! DO NOT GO. THEY CHARGE $50 FOR A REGULAR ACRYLIC!!! IT was horrible. The chinese lady tried to charge me an extra $10 for some nail polish. And she cut my cuticles and they stung when I went to wash my hands. Why charge so much when there's over dozens of much more cheaper places with the same exact service!!!! Smh. I wish I could give less than a star. I went here for the first time this morning for just a simple manicure. There was a wait, which I was fine with. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and sat in one of their uncomfortable wooden chairs for 40 minutes, and then they kept taking others waiting before me who came in after me without acknowledging me or updating me as to why my wait was longer than others. I left without a manicure because the women in the chairs already were staring at me looking upset for me. It was my first time coming in here. I decided to try it because of the other reviews and I gotta say this is the best place ever to get your nails done. They treated me like a princess. Even tough I got there like 15 mins before they were supposed to close, they helped me and even gave me a short complementary massage while my nails dried. It was amazing! They have this tactic, where if they're busy they won't tell you - and have you start soaking your toes. Then you wait. And wait. And wait. Stuck because your feet are pruned and you would feel like a jerk for getting up and walking out. To be fair, I hate venturing away from my nail salon but they were booked and I leave for vacation tomorrow. What's a girl to do? The pedicure lasted about 15 minutes tops - but let me add, my feet are cared for meticulously. There isn't much to do with them. Massage felt great but was limited to about 1 minute each leg/foot.No complimentary massage while your nails dry. Just all around a mediocre experience. Love this salon! I've lived in Hamden for about two years and started going here just to get my eyebrows done. I recently have been getting my nails done here and I'm in love. The staff is so sweet, and they take their time even when there are people waiting. At some nail salons, you can sense the technician rushing through to get to the next customer. Not here. Everyone is treated with respect and care. All manicures include a wonderful massage and- my favorite-hot stone massage! This was a surprise and I absolutely love it when I go. They have one of the widest selections of gel nail polish I've seen at any salon. They offer acrylic nails as well as the UV gel nails (I believe it is roughly $49 - $50 for a full set. A little pricey but absolutely worth it for the quality. The pedicures include those awesome massage chairs as well as a hot stone massage and paraffin wax treatment on your heels!The salon accepts credit cards but they definitely prefer cash, at least when tipping. I believe there is a small increase in price if you're paying with a card as opposed to cash. Fortunately there is an ATM in the salon ($2 charge to use). They have music playing and a flat screen TV (usually on the food network) so you'll be occupied while you get your nails done.Waxing is done meticulously and gently. I've been going here on and off for a couple of years, usually the same people are always there. I only go to Donna, she takes her time and does really meticulous work. The only downfall is that they prefer cash, there is a fee to pay with a credit or debit card- but they now have an ATM inside that's a $2 fee. Be sure to bring cash! In the winter, free paraffin dip on hands and heels for mani/pedi--yes please! If you're in the center of Hamden and your feet feel like sand paper in your boots and your hands look like pale dried prunes (keep it real- its winter time and you know you're dry)  this place has the rejuvenation you need.It's conveniently located at the tail end of the plaza- so very few witnesses to see you going for maintenance.  The staff is professional and the place is very clean. I saw liners in the pedicure tub that were changed after each person before cleaning the tub (score). Mani/pedi is $37 when paying with credit, $35 when paying cash.  The service is well worth it--hot stones, paraffin, great colors...I could go on but just go for yourself.Note- you may want to call for an appointment. I am a new residence in the town of Hamden. I decided to treat my self to a little pampering. I walked into Pink Nails with all of the expectations of suitable yet affordable nail and of course speedy and accurate customer service. As soon as I walked felt that this was not the place for me. It took ten minutes for someone to acknowledge that I walked and need assistance. And when they did see me it took another 2-5 minutes before a represenative approached me. On a Saturday afternoon there were only three technicians working and four other women waiting ahead of me. So who knew how long it would have had to wait. And to top things off all i came in for was a simple acrylic set that normaly cost $25.00-$30.00. Their standard rate was.....Are you ready $50.00. So there you have it.They expected to overcharge me for poor customer service, a short staff and to give business to a place that didn't seem to regulary service someone like my self. Read Less
