This salon is truly a gem in Hamden, and I lucked out it's a walk away from my apartment. I walked in during a busy time and was greeted promptly. I picked a nail color and was seated within 10 min, my pedicure started no later than 15 min after walking in the door.My nail technician, Tae, was amazing. He did such a thorough job on my feet. He was teaching ME about my nail anatomy and how to ask for the proper nail cut anytime I go anywhere else-- in my 28 years of life I've never experienced someone who cares so much. He made sure my color and coats were even and perfect. I am one happy customer and I will be back.The salon is clean, they have a good system of cleaning the foot tubs and tools. Donna is fantastic! I have been going to her for over 8 years and she is the best nail technician I know. She does a beautiful gel french manicure that simply looks as natural as your real nails! She is a very personable person and a perfectionist who will take the time to make sure you are happy with your nails and is a friend. Good manicure spot. Plenty of colors to choose from - Essie, OPI and gels. They have 4 pedicure massage chairs and close to 10 manicure stations. In my journey to seek another salon ended and I returned to here. I loved it! This is not a spa experience. You will not get your hands exfoliated or a soothing ambiance. This is a no-nonsense, affordable, beautiful manicure. Given the reviews, I was doubly disappointed at Art Nails. The place is down at the heels, pedi chairs are duct-taped  and are too close together. The service is indifferent. When it was time to go, no one helped me with removing the pedi paper, getting car keys, putting on coat - the usual things to preserve your nails. I still haven't found an excellent nail salon in the New Haven area with good prices. Milford has some very good places, but it's far. Read Less

My friend and I made an appointment  on a weekday. It was pretty busy. We were seen right on time. Apparently the two ladies were the owners. I was immediately put off when I asked if the tools were clean and the manicurist threw the nail clippers into the blue barbicide solution and gave me a disapproving look. As a consumer, I should have the comfort to ask about how sterile the tools are. If it wasn't for my friend, who was a frequent customer, I would've stood up and left.     So I decided to stay and have my mani and pedi, as I really needed it and didn't want to embarrass her. Needless to say, within 2-3 days, the nail Polish started peeling. My friend also stated that her polish was peeling.   They lost a long time customer in my friend. And I will not be returning. It was my first time in here today and while I was awkwardly denied any sort of welcome/greeting when I came in, I didn't have to wait long for my pedicure seat. My seat's massage component wasn't working properly so I went without a back massage which was a bummer! Pretty decent color selection and the prices weren't extraordinarily cheap or expensive. They talked me into the extra $10 for the heel therapy pedicure; Mia was a wonderfully sweet and dedicated technician who made the experience all the better. Some of the heel-freshening treatments didn't smell very nice, but they're effective! I was pleased with the results of my pedicure as the polish job was lovely, too. Overall I enjoyed my trip to Art Nails. I paid $35 not including tip which I think is reasonable for the treatments I received. I think Art Nails caters to a lot of regulars, and you can tell that the regulars really love this place.   Everyone is super nice - staff and clientele included - but it was extremely busy on the Friday afternoon I stopped in, and I didn't think I would end up waiting as long for a pedicure seat as I did because there were only two people ahead of me.  After that, I was committed for at least another hour for both my pedicure and subsequent manicure, and as friendly as the place was, I grew tired of being there after a while.  I'm not sure if they need more staff or space, or if the staff is just so familiar with everybody that they have a lot to talk about, but I was here for a really, really long time.  Once I sat down in a pedicure chair, I still had to wait a little while before someone could come over to me, and I longed for two things: a beverage (I wished I brought one) and a massage chair.  While comfortable enough, the pedicure chairs were not massage chairs, and I felt like something was missing without a back massage of sorts.  There were a lot of positives to my experience, though - the pedicure was great, and my manicure was nicely done.  I was very impressed with how clean the tools were - they even unwrapped a fresh pumice bar for my pedicure - and the ladies who took care of me were wonderful. This place is the best in CT as far as I'm concerned. They really pamper you. You get grade A treatment with out the grade A bill. All they need to do is serve a drink and you are set. Well I don't get pedicures. I don't like feet, I hate my own, and yeah. It's not a relaxing time for me. But since it is spring and I have calloused and peely feet during season changes, I wanted to see if someone could fix them.They totally did!I got a spa pedicure for 45, and it was definitely worth it.  I don't know everything they did, but honestly I should have taken before and after pictures. They went from rough and peeling to smooth and pretty. They get results! The absolute BEST pedicure I've ever had!! I splurged for the 45$ SPA pedicure and it was worth every penny. It took about an hour, and was highly therapeutic- Sandy- seemed to genuinely know the science behind trigger points and massage. There were multiple steps for callous removal and exfoliation. Sandy was friendly and funny, but didn't talk my head off the whole time. The staff is very professional and seems to genuinely enjoy their job and working with each other. The place is very clean and it was clear that they have a good crowd of regulars who return routinely. I also got an eyebrow wax and it was the first time I didn't have to request that the person go back and fix up certain points. Julia did a great, thorough job before asking me for feedback. I visit Hamden often to visit my mother. We love to get our nails done together. We have tried many salons in the area. This place is one of my favorites. I like that hot stones and paraffin on the heel are included in the basic $25 pedicure. The worked fast and efficiently, and paid very close attention to detail. It was my first time here. I was happy that this is a 7 day salon as most I know are closed on Sundays. I walked in but wasn't greeted right away with only one person in there and four technicians. Whatever, I let it slide. The color selection was pretty decent - they have Essie, OPI, and Shellac. My technician's name was Mia and I thought she was very thorough with my reflexology pedicure and regular manicure. It came out to $45. Seems like the technicians knew everyone that came in which shows dedication from their customers so there has to be a good reason people keep coming back enough for the techs to know pretty much everyone who comes in. Ok, so I haven't lived in CT for about 10 years, but here's the thing: this is the BEST nail salon for a pedicure.  My parents live nearby and when I come to visit them I often go to Art Nails to get a pedicure; I'm home visiting this week and I was like, oh, do I really want to go get a pedicure? Is it really that much better than places near me? Um, YES.  It is.   Seriously.  For a regular $25 pedi, they literally massage your calves and feet for a good 15-20 minutes, including a hot stone massage; they have this awesome little leg rest they use when doing the exfoliation so that you don't have to hold your leg up; they are friendly and professional and have awesome massage chairs.  And my toesies look great.  Trust me.  Just try it.
