I followed Katie from her previous salon as she was so fab and I wanted to support her new venture. Together with her partner Vincent and an army of wonderful staff - Katie and Vincent have created a little oasis in Islington. Clean, technically efficient and talented, great customer service, comfortable nail stations (especially the pedi chairs) a huge array of nails colours.....I’m not sure what I would suggest as improvements. I have had NOTHING but wonderful experiences here! I have gotten a gel manicure every time I've visited, and the staff did a perfect job (and I must admit, I'm quite particular). They have a huge selection of colors to choose from, they give you a complimentary back massage while during your manicure, and a hand massage! After seeing all the great reviews for Tip Top Nails I booked to have a full set of gel extensions. Unfortunately the guy who was doing mine was clearly in a rush and badly cut me whilst filing my nails - I don't just mean nipped me, I mean actually sliced into the side of my finger and drew blood. I decided to carry on - the last thing I wanted was to soak my bleeding finger in acetone to get the gel powder off - but I've ended up with ugly, thick, chunky, square nails. He j...ust assumed I wanted square nails, rather than giving me options, and when I asked him to round the corners he filed them for about 2 seconds each so they were still very square. He applied way too much gel powder and ridiculously thick coats of paint so the end result is horrible and very fake-looking. I will not be going back. I had gone to this nail salon before, usually when I can't get in my usual place, but it keeps on disappointing me. My daughter and I went in today for pedis. We got a mediocre one at best. But something that stood out was, that they were giving out lotions as gift, and everyone in the salon got one, except for my daughter and I. We paid and left a $9 tip on a $40 bill, which is a decent tip. Still don't understand why they would knowingly, make us feel uncomfortable. This spa is a hidden gem! Tina and her staff will greet you with a smile and a bottle of water the moment you walk in the door! I would recommend an appointment if you go on a weekend because they tend to get extremely busy. The prices are very reasonable and they do a very nice job with both mani's and Pedi's. This place is awesome. My mom and I go to get our nails done about every 2 weeks or so. The whole staff is so friendly and welcoming, and they always do a great job. Also, if it's not busy, they'll give you a back massage while you're getting your nails done which is a nice lil treat :) Read Less

Came to get a relaxing pedicure with my sister. Regrettably the technician cut my big toe so badly that it bled. I shared with the manager that her employee not only cut my big toe badly but didn't put on gloves when my it was bleeding profusely, nor did she go above and beyond to properly disinfect the spa tub that my toe bled in. They wiped it down and promptly put the next customer right in it. To make things worse when she smudged the nail polish near the cut, she put nail polish remover straight into the cut sending me to the ceiling with pain. After hearing my concerns the manager apologized, never bothered to speak to the employee or make any effort to move the customer in my spa tub and handed me the bill at the full rate no less. My usual salon didn't have any openings so I stopped in here for a pedicure. The woman asked me if I wanted to trim my nails and I said yes, please make them shorter either by filing or clipping. She barely touched my cuticles, she used the tool but she barely made contact. She barely made contact when she was doing my heals as well. The 5 minute massage you couldn't even call a massage, more like a gentle rub. To make matters even worse this salon is very unsanitary. In the time I was there I watched 3 different technicians finish with their clients. NOT ONE OF THEM CLEANED THE STATION BEFORE TAKING THE NEXT CLIENT. All they do is RINSE the tub. They don't use any type of cleaner, they don't scrub, they just rinse! When I got home I realized my nails are still quite long, they're not evenly filed, and they're all different lengths. And my cuticles look as if they were never touched. The only thing this salon has going for them is the friendliness of the staff. You def get what you pay for. I've been coming here for years. I'm so disappointed in the manicure I got. I got a gel, the guy didn't even file my nails right because they are so uneven and ragged. This was an amazing place Well run, organised, perfectly clean and tidy. Efficient and a great atmosphere. The staff were awesome, the young lady who did my pedicure was brilliant, so kind, took so much time and trouble and my feet had never looked do good or felt so good. The massage chair I sat it was amazing and I felt great while in there and wish it wasn't do far away that I gave to wait to visit my daughter to go again.... Worth every penny. This is one of the best nail salons I have ever been to. The owner is extremely friendly, and always greets customers with a smile. The salon atmosphere is very clean and inviting. They offer bottles of water to each customer and have candy around to take.The pedicures, manicures, and eyebrow waxing come out great every time. Furthermore, the prices are competitive. Had a mixed experience at this salon yesterday. I went with a friend to get a pedicure. The man who started my pedicure got snippy with me when I asked him to please remove his latex gloves, since I am allergic to them. He then went into a raging tantrum when I asked him to please wash his hands after removing the gloves. I'm sorry buddy, I don't want to drop dead in this salon from an allergic reaction. I was so pissed I was ready to walk out of the salon, but the owner came over and said that the angry man and the lady doing my friends pedicure would switch. All went well until my friend asked the angry man to file her nails down a bit more. He argued with her that they were too short already, and it started to get heated. The owner again came over, my friend explained the problem, and the owner took over from there and finished her pedicure. Angry man then disappeared. I believe, from watching him interact with myself and my friend, was that his poor understanding of English is the majority of his attitude problem. I think when I was trying to explain my latex allergy, he had zero comprehension of what I was saying. The lady who finished my pedicure did a wonderful job. They also give lovely foot massages, and shoulder massage as well. We were also given small bottles of water, which I thought was a nice touch. I have tried nearly every nail salon in the area and Smiling is definitely the best.  The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.  On my first visit they gave me a voucher for a free eyebrow wax which I used on my next visit.  They did an amazing job and from my experience it's rare to find a nail salon that does good waxing.  I now go there every other week to get a manicure and pedicure.  The prices are very reasonable.  I pay $30 for a mani and pedi.  They do a great job.  They are very attentive, they don't rush, and they give a very good massage.  I like to get the callus remover also which leaves my feet very soft and smooth.  The polish always lasts me a while too with no chipping.  They also massage you while your nails are drying.  They remember me every time I go in.  I have brought several friends and my mom there and they all love it! I also like that it is tucked away so it's not ever busy, I always get right in with no wait.  It's also clean and I like that they have  TV that I can watch while getting my nails done.  I HIGHLY recommend this place!! Best nail salon I have visited in the Farmington Valley. Clean, friendly, welcoming, and good prices. They did a fantastic job with my pedicure and gel manicure. They took their time and the finished product came out flawlessly- no bubbles or polish around the cuticle like I've gotten at other places. Come on, I'm paying good money for a pedicure please don't leave polish on my skin. I would definitely return to this place. They had 20% off when I visited, hopefully they still have the 20% off when I return, but even without it I would go back. Nice people, good prices, never a super long wait. However.... I've never seen them throughly clean the pedicure tubs with more than just a quick antiseptic spray. Gotta get in there better!Also, some of the employees smoke and come in after a smoke and do your nails and you can smell it so strongly. My hands actually smelled smokey after a manicure. A pet peeve of mine is when I don't see employees wash their hands when going from feet to hands to massaging shoulders of a completely different person.My toes felt a little itchy after last time... I went for the first time today and I agree with other reviews. It seems clean there because it is a new salon. But I had a gentleman doing my pedicure and he cut my toe while cleaning my cuticles and although he saw I was bleeding, he tried to hide it by quickly shoving my foot back in the tub. When I realized he cut me because I saw the blood on the paper towel, I confronted him about it but he didn't speak English. I quickly took my foot out of the tub and I asked him to spray the antiseptic on it and he asked one of the women what I said and I told her I wanted it because he cut my toe and she ignored what I said too. I was not happy! I travel up here for work often and will be looking elsewhere to get my pedicures. Read Less

I agree with Laura ....this IS a hidden gem.   Funny thing, I live within walking distance and didn't know it was here.  I was going to another salon in Bristol for a few years.  When a business is open at 10am ..then they should OPEN at 10.  Multiple times I waited well over 20 min before they would show up....done with that! Smiling Nails has to be the best salon I heve ever been in.  The cleanest ever!  Jennifer who greets you , is the sweetest lady.  My nails and pedicure done by Jason...fabulous job!  I had a hot stone pedicure, just heaven.  It's too bad the town has such small signs...very hard to see traveling on route 6.  Turn in the driveway of Tractor supply and then tun left into small plaza with the bagel shops ...drive around the back .........give them a try, you'll be glad yo did!!!   I' m hooked forever! I stumbled upon this place about 1-2 months ago while searching for a new place in between my new job in Farmington and my home in Bantam. I tried googling, yelping and nothing was helping me locate a salon that did Acrylics. So on my way home from work I stopped in at each salon I saw on the way. Luckily this was only the 3rd stop. The salon was gorgeous & clean. The spa chairs were the most viasually appealing that I had ever seen. They were amazingly friendly and give you a ridiculously good neck rub while you are getting a mani or while your nails are drying. They actually make it a point to try and remember you. Aside for the visuals and the hospitality their work is excellent. I went in this past Saturday to get a new Full Set and I couldnt be happier.FYI: They also do massages and waxing. Read Less
