I would not even give them one star. Had an appointment with Maddison Ortego. My appointment was at 10:00, around 10:10 I asked the young lady at the counter if she was there yet. She went back and asked the other stylist and I heard her say "she is always late". I waited till 10:15 and left. Letting her know I was wanting a new salon. That is horrible customer service. Service was good and my hair came out great but when the stylist realized I was taking awhile on my hair she called to cancel her next appt, I felt like I was a burden afterwards, not to mention she charged me another $20 because it took awhile for my hair. I found Jamee through an online deal about five years ago. Since then, she and Breanne have opened Serendipity Salon and Spa and it is a warm and welcoming business. Jamee is not just a talented stylist but, more importantly, a wonderful person. I drive all the way up from Cherry Creek every five weeks because she is just that fantastic. I was referred to Serendipity by a friend who goes there for her hair and had Maddison cut and tone my hair, she was such a great stylist and made me feel so comfortable the whole time. No awkward silences, you can tell she really does love her job and is good at it! I had to bring my 4 month old along and the whole salon was so supportive and patient with her fussing at times. I have gone to her for a really long time and she knows her stuff, is a professional, and her prices are very reasonable. I found the salon through an ad in a magazine I received in the mail. After just moving to the area I decided to take advantage of the $10 off coupon and give it a try. It was easy to get an appointment, they had one the very next day that worked. I was quickly greeted when I walked in and was in the chair on time. My appointment was with Susan and she was very friendly and took the time to walk me through what she would do after I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She was easy to chat with and even gave me tips on how to style. They offer free bang cuts and told me to feel free to call if I had problems styling my new hair! I wish I could say great things about this place but NOT! I moved from California and was in need of finding a new place to go. My hair was short to begin with and needed to be trimmed so it would not be so heavy. It had lots if texture and sift curls after my chemotherapy. My previous cut allowed for me to style my hair with my fingers and product and use the blow dryer on low. Layers USED TO BE light and textured. So Jamee agreed to trim it and get the texture back. Btw I have lots of colics so finger styling allowed the hair to flow around the colics and not fight with them. Well.. I came out with barely being able to run my fingers through the back of my hair because I didn't have any. What used to be a feathered look around my face and neck is a blunt cut like a guy would have. After SHE was finished I tried to explain to her the need for the feathering around my face and she didn't get it! I decided to stop because my hair was getting SO SHORT. The wisps at my neckline are cut straight across, the hair on top of my head is cut without out any feathering it won't show the curl it used to have. It looks like I took chunks if hair pulled them straight up and took a scissor and cut them straight across MYSELF. I am now having to wear my hair combed straight back like a guy until it grows out so I can get A DESCENT STYLE. My head looked better bald after I had chemo. Read Less

So I went to Serendipity Studio 22 first for a Gel full set with Tina. It was ok and she told me that the next time if I paid in cash she would give me 15% off and if I scheduled a manicure and pedicure at the same time it would be another $5.00 off for a total of $40.00. I scheduled for a manicure and pedicure in the next 2 weeks. I even referred a friend to Tina based on this information. When I returned in 2 weeks, She quickly did my manicure and then the pedicure. They both were OK, I have had better at "discount salons." When it came time to pay, she charged me the full price after she asked if I was paying in cash or charge. So both ended up costing me $53.00, instead of $40.00 quoted 2 weeks prior. Prior to this appointment, I made an appointment with Jaimee to cut my hair. When I arrived for my hair appointment I was kept waiting for 15 minutes after the appointed time. While cutting my hair, I told her that I needed to do some thing different with my bangs. Jaimee never talked to me about my bangs. she simply cut my hair following the same cut I had previously. There was no warm neck wrap and cool eye mask or a rejuvenating scalp massage. Jaimee kept leaving to have her picture taken with their new sign. Overall, I did not feel that they wanted my business or that they had time to really pay attention to me. I found Serendipity Salon when it was in its old location in the Orchard Town Center.  My hairdresser of the past few years moved out of state unexpectedly, and I did not know where to go next!  But I found an introductory coupon in one of the local mailers and made an appointment with Jamee.  I was thrilled when my highlights came out exactly as I requested.  This was beyond exciting for me because my former hairdresser could never accomplish this and actually made me feel like it was my fault.  Jamee is great. She listens and she is talented.The new location at 112th and Federal is a much, much bigger space and very comfortable, so it is great to see the business thriving and new services being added (massage, mani/pedi to name a couple).  My hope is that the pricing for these other services will come down a bit because I'd love to get a pedicure while my hair is processing, but at $45+, I'll have to stick with my old standby, Lily Nails. I found Serendipity through a magazine ad and I am SO thankful that I did! I had been going to the same hairstylist for 5 years but I had grown unhappy with her and needed a change. My sister was in the same position as I was so we both decided to try Jamee. She was amazing! She welcomed us with a sweet smile and immediately offered us a drink. The studio is adorable and I love the small, quaint size of it. I have to admit, the very thing that got me into the place was the part in the ad saying that a warm neck wrap and scalp massage was part of every service. Jamee did not fail to please when it came time for that!!I would recommend anyone to visit Jamee. She offers easy communication and is truly a sweet girl. So, I experienced the same thing the first reviewer did, when it came to Serendipity's false advertising.  I also booked a cut/color/blow-dry online (no problem there) after clipping a $25 off coupon in the mail that referenced the "parafin hand treatment, etc.", none of which happened.  Being a big girl, I really should have asked them what was up with the advertising, but didn't, so can't complain too much, if I'm not willing to do so in person.  I like my color and cut, however, like the first reviewer alluded to, the professionalism of the stylists (texting), and thus the vibe of the salon is questionable - I was not warmly welcomed and tried to make small talk with the second stylist while mine used the restroom.  It was awkward (for me).  I like a low-key vibe and am ok with silence while stylists work on my hair, but this felt more unfriendly-like (in the beginning before hair coloring commenced).  Once my stylist got to work, I enjoyed the conversation. In the beginning, it almost felt like they didn't need my business, or at least, it took a little bit to break the ice.  It is a very small salon, the size of a small dorm room, so you need to be ok talking in front of other clients.  It wasn't big enough for me to feel like I was escaping & being pampered for the 2 hours and $75 service.  Unfortunately, I will not be returning.  I'm still looking for that special salon/stylist! I scheduled (through their website) a cut, color & blow dry and an eyebrow wax 1 full week in advance. When I checked in - with the stylist while she was texting in the hall - I was asked why I was there. When I stated all the things I had booked (and were confirmed late last week) I was told they ran out of wax. Unfortunate but not a deal breaker. I was then shown a book of hair color samples to choose from. Wait - why am I going to a professional? I can pick my own color from a box for that matter. I chose the best I could. I was then offered a drink, I asked for a glass of wine. I was told they just ran out. Another customer was offered a drink, she asked for a Coke...they just ran out. Do you sense a theme? I'd like to point out that today is Tuesday and they are closed on Sunday & Monday...maybe run to the store and stock up on supplies? Just a thought.Then color was applied and stained my forehead & ears. I know it will come off but I look foolish until then. I have no opinion of the haircut...however, she did use thinning shears (not sure of the name but I haven't seen them used in at least 12 years) but it looks okay today. I'll update my review tomorrow if I don't feel okay about it anymore.Time to pay: they honored a $25 off coupon but when I pulled out the coupon it states "Every service includes a paraffin hand treatment, warm neck wrap and cool eye mask all while enjoying a rejuvenating scalp massage!" I was not offered any of those things and at this point I am questioning the seriousness of this business. I used a credit card which is swiped on her phone. The only tip options are No Tip, 15%, 20%, or 25%. How tacky! I do not plan on returning and would not recommend to friends or family. I will continue my search for a quality salon experience in the northern suburbs. Any suggestions? Read Less
