Overall I'd say my experience was fairly good... my trial hair was pretty cute and they squeezed me and my friend in for mani-pedis that day and that were great. However, the day of the wedding only one bridesmaid and I did makeup and both had a burning and irritated eye reaction to the eye makeup shortly after it was put on. We had to remove most of it and reapply our own at the house. Additionally, I didn't really like my hair the day of. But I can't really blame much ...of that on the salon because I micromanaged the stylist while she was doing it. I should have spoken up and had her change it, but after an hour plus, I was discouraged. Also, my mom wasn't a fan of her hair either. But both of my bridesmaids looked great. It was a very mixed experience but I would advise the salon to check on the expiration date of their make-up and make sure the brushes are cleaned because we had a very bad reaction to something they used. I live overseas and was having my wedding in Breckenridge. I did my research and everything said chopping block was one of the better ones.. As the time difference was a factor I corresponded through email as well as staying up late to actually talk to someone on the phone as this would be the most important day for me. I was told certain prices on the phone for my trial and the deposit. I paid the deposit and when I went for my trial it was much to my disgust they said they ...don't have a trial package and never went ahead with it when they in fact told me over the phone a certain discount for hair and makup bridal trials.... in saying that I paid more than I was expecting. I had my whole family (8 girls) getting services done on the day of the wedding. I received an email with the amount owed for everyone which included the travel cost as well as a 20% tip. When they arrived it was two stylists from the salon and a freelance makeup artist.. I had to keep telling my stylist to fix my makeup as it was not appealing and my sister was also making suggestions to the stylist. The freelance makeup artist was telling the other girls that lashes were $35 when the salon actually only charges $25 so luckily I overheard and made sure they girls weren't getting over charged. My mother in law has short hair and called the day before as all she wanted was a blowout so they told her she would be $50 instead of $85. My sister in law's lashes started to fall off before the ceremony even began (which would have been only 2 hours after she had them done). After they finished we gave them the cash and it was all over... SO I THOUGHT. I received and email the day after my wedding which stated "they didn't want to call me during my ceremony but I was short money so they went ahead and charged my card" .. Well how kind of them not to call during my ceremony! They should have A. had authorization before charging my card and B. checked their number because I was not short! We had given them the exact amount. The last thing you want to be doing the day after your wedding is calling some salon and sorting this thing out because they can't get it together... If I could get my 20% tip back I would do it in an instant as the services provided were not worthy of a tip! Most horrible experience I've ever endured.   Extremely poor customer service, terrible cut, and even worse hairstyle.  I paid $70 to be poorly treated and forced to redo the hairstyle since it was absolutely unacceptable.  Despite having a prior appt, they rushed me through with a wash, cut, and style in 40 mins - which is why the end result was so horrible.  Oh and this appt was for an engagement photo shoot,  so I had to literally fight back tears as I tried my best to fix their disaster.  Super disappointing for a highly rated salon.  :-( Read Less

I made an appointment at The Chopping Block after having a friend of mine recommend Melanie. It was a wonderful experience! Melanie recognized that I had a natural curl in my hair, and gave me education on how to style and take care of my hair to accentuate my curls. Most every salon I've been to in the past has always just flat ironed my hair with out considering it's natural texture at all. I unfortunately had the worst shellac manicure here, my cuticles were a mess and the paint was bubbling up around the edges were paint was applied unevenly. I ended up calling the next morning to get a refund because I was so unhappy with the results, especially after paying over $60, and was told I could either come in to have it redone or get a refund. As I was only in Breckenridge for a short time for a wedding I didn't want to spend the time away from family and friends to get my nails redone. (Not to mention how much damage that would have done to my nails to get shellac taken off and reapplied) I asked for the refund and the person who answered the phone said she was in the middle of something but that she would call me back so we could chat about it. I said that was fine and never heard back from them. The salon was very cute and I had friends get other services done that they were happy with but I would highly suggest finding another salon for nails. It was overall a very disappointing experience. While this is a beautiful shop in a gorgeous town, our bridal party experience was less than ideal. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone. We had booked 4 mani/pedis and a bridal hair trial for the day before the wedding. I will say we had one person get ill the day of the event who couldn't come so someone took her place last minute. All we had to do was change a name in the booking, not a problem, right? All services were still utilized. However, the manicur...e was so basic, I could've done it myself for free. My cuticles didn't look any better than before and my nail polish started chipping the next day. I'm still upset I didn't take a picture to share. I didn't even get lotion put on my hands even after asking for it. Once my manicure was done, I asked for a little lotion to apply myself again and they said they didn't have any but offered me oil that made things less comfortable. One person in the party loved her pedicure and the bride's pedicure was great (both done by the same girl), but the other two of us got very minimal service for what we paid. I didn't even get my toenails clipped, just painted and a little lotion put on. Weird how they didn't have lotion for my hands. The brides gel manicure wiped right off as they finished so they redid them, but instead of removing all the nail polish, they just buffed the nail and painted over the patchy nail polish below. It stayed on that time, but it looked bumpy and uneven. I will give them a little credit since they comped that manicure in the final price, but that wasn't the only problem with the booking. Then they charged each of us $9 for a small champagne on top of the services fee. I understand, you need to pay for what you get, but since we booked a bridal party, I was under the impression the drink was included. It's common courtesy to mention the drink is extra. Finally, the DAY OF THE WEDDING the bride was there on time for her wedding hair appointment, but they had double booked another wedding and she had to wait a significant amount of time to get into the chair pushing into her photo session. She is very kind and level headed, so she didn't complain and she kept her chin up, but this pushed into her pictures and she had to pay the photographers for that time that she wasn't able to utilize. Luckily we were all flexible enough to accommodate this, but many brides may not be as able to reorganize their wedding day. The services provided here were not worth what we paid and given the opportunity to redo it, we would not book here again. I cannot comment on how their regular services are. I'm sure the people that work here are talented and have had better days, but we booked far in advance and they had plenty of time to prepare and to set aside time for these services they were getting paid for. Great shellac nails! Great service! I went here with a few girls before my wedding. Everywhere was surprisingly booked and they were willing to squeeze us in for some quick manis and gel for me. I usually get shellac but it still ends up chipping or peeling with in a day or two. I was discussing this, and the girls worked their magic! I have written very few reviews some for good reasons and other like this for what I know was lack of service. I selected this salon because of it's ratings plus stopped in first to see what the facility was like. Made appointment for next day...cut was OK although two very disappointing things happened. First NO hair wash...it states this on you site under men's hair cuts....this is considered false advertisement and may be even other things. Only one girl was working and there was a walk in just after she started me and she said for him to come back in 20 minutes. Cut was more with clippers than scissors...like a barber would cut vs a hair stylist. More interested in one more cut and dollars vs doing complete stated services for a man's cut. Will NOT return. I used them for my wedding day hair and makeup. They require you to do a trail that only is for hair. My wedding day makeup did not come out good at all. I told her up close looks bad and she would add more makeup. For airbrush you think it would of looked flawless but it did not. the color was so off around my eyes that even my photographer said she had to edit the photos so much because of it. So I don't have many up close photos and still in some you can see the mismatched makeup color making around my eyes look yellow and the rest of my face hardly have any makeup on at all. I'm a local. I live in Breck. I'm a professional. Needed a shellac manicure but didn't want to drive to Frisco. Made an appointment and had a good experience. Planned to come back and be a regular customer. Unfortunately, I referred The Chopping Block to my neighbor and her 2 friends. They made 3 appointments. When they got there, they had one person tending to all 3 of them at one time. It took forever and my neighbor did most of her own nail filing and trimming. When they were ready to leave they were each given a bill for $30 HIGHER then I paid for the same "Express Manicure" service.  ($65 each for the Express Manicure, how much would a full manicure have been?) When they questioned the cost they were told "this is a resort town with resort pricing" None of us will ever return. If you have your nails done here, get a firm price when you make your appointment. Completely disappointed and have told many people (locals and quests) to avoid having their nails done here. Ireland found time in her schedule to fit me in and walked me though all the ins and outs of curly hair - I've never seen my hair as curly or voluminous as it was today in my ENTIRE life! I have really curly hair and in my 5 years in Summit have been unsuccessful, to say the least, in finding someone who can give me a cut that doesn't lead to tears. Thanks to Ireland I actually like my curls again and feel inspired to try out all the technique she shared with me. She taught me the correct way to condition, style, and how to create more relaxed or pronounced curl. Went for my very first appointment here and was paired with Ashley. I brought in 2 pictures I liked which I thought were the same type of cut and color and she helped me pick between the two and was honest in telling me how it would turn out on my own hair. She ended up doing my hair and then even re-toned it when I wanted it a darker color. Even after all of that, she still offered to adjust it if I decided after a few days it still wasn't the right color, but of course it turned out awesome.Ashley came in later at night on a weekend as well to accommodate my work schedule which was super awesome.The other hair dressers engaged in conversations with me too and they have reasonably priced alcohol to drink during your appointment too. I went in with some seriously jacked up hair- I mean multi colored, multintonal ect since I am somewhat of a diy kind of hair person. Me and Melanie discussed what to do to get it back to normal looking, without going over all darker. She did a reverse baylage, and it turned out beautiful. Very nice and blended. She also did a protein treatment which was fantastic. I'm so happy to have normal person hair again, and still have the blonde! At a very reasonable price! Real, friendly and zero pretentious attitude, we have experienced in Breckinridge in previous trips. Joanie (spelling??) provided excellent service, was patient and answered all our questions! My husband's cut was clean and quick. My hair is super thick and I requested a partial highlight and cut.  I greatly appreciate Joanie take the extra time to highlight my hair correctly. She gave me a new sexy cut, side long bangs and thinned out my hair. I love my new cut! This place was absolutely awesome. I had myself and 4 others that were getting hair done for my wedding. Me and my fiancee went in for a trial run 2 days before the wedding, and then the morning of for everybody. They are typically closed on Sundays, so we had the place to ourselves. My daughter and I were in town to attend a wedding.  I called the day before to ask if there was any availability to have our hair done for the event.
