I LOVE Lona! Not only is she fun, easy to talk to, and a joy to be around but she is an artist. Even my husband, who really does not care about my beauty treatments, ALWAYS remarks how beautiful my nails look and how Lona is an artist at her craft. Not many people do hard gels like is done here, honestly I had no idea the difference until I had these and NEVER again will I go to a shopping center chop shop. The gel here is REAL hard gels, done custom for each nail. The salon is small and gorgeous, it's a boutique nail salon, and it's beautiful. It's also very clean and airy. Make sure to book an appointment early, or be willing to fit into an open slot because she (and the other woman here) have legions of followers who travel from all around California to get nails done here, I'm not kidding! Lona has been doing my nails for 4 months now. She is professional, creative and knowledgeable. I use to get a gel manicure at Vice and they would always peel off. Mine haven't peeled off at all. I've also seen Yvette and you won't be disappointed. Great place to get your nails done. Read Less

I was a new client to Lacquer and here is what I experienced.The good: Lona really does a great job at nails and designs.The bad: A lot of gossiping from her about other people's personal problems, not even worried that one of us could possibly know the person she is talking about, maybe friends with that person she or possibly even related. Suggestion: less gossip. Also, maybe it's not the best idea to take your teenage daughter to work with you and let her make clients feel unwanted just because she wants to go home. Her daughter was very vocal and rude when a client walked in for an appointment and she started arguing with Lona in front of everyone about how she thought it was time to go home. My nails were looking janky as hell & I needed to get them done asap before I had work on Tuesday. Luckily, Lona had an apt open at 11 o clock. She was super nice & quick! My nails came out perfect and I'll definitely be going here from now on. Bonus, that it's only a 5 minute walk away! Review based on my first appointment.First, let me preface this by saying I have patronized MANY nail salons in Santa Cruz county; from Scotts Valley to Watsonville and everywhere in between. And yes, I am a persnickety and high maintenance customer. Meaning, I know and take note of when I receive a quality experience combined with quality work: Straight polish lines, evenly applied polish layers, nails that are equal in thickness and length, etc., etc. However, this does NOT mean I am a rude, condescending, or difficult consumer. My M.O. for poor quality work is to typically say nothing and not return to the business. That being said, I am extremely pleased with my gel extension nails and found Lona to be outgoing, charming, and friendly.  She was very transparent with her prices and kept the conversation going in a very skillful and entertaining way. Personally, I found her charming and hilarious because she is genuine and authentic in her interactions and I am so HAPPY with the results of her work!!!!I had been searching for the look that the process she uses provides and had tried acrylics, acrylics with gel overlay, fiberglass with tips, and plain gel and none worked to give me the look I was searching for: The ability to wear the nails natural, as in NO french manicure or to wear a bold dark color.  I have finally found what I had been looking for!The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because my nails are a tad bit bumpy (uneven in thickness) but they are so far beyond my expectation even with this minor flaw. I imagine they will only look better as Lona gets to know my nails. They look BEAUTIFUL...I have already received THREE compliments from random strangers and they haven't even been on for 24 hours!!Lona knows her craft! She's one of the few manicurist to actually give me the length I have always asked for :). Her polish lines are straight, the nails are filed to the SAME length, the nails are not too thick (hate that look) and the salon is CLEAN! In fact, as I was walking into my appointment, Lona was cleaning/sanitizing her equipment----Hallelujah!Again I have patronized MANY nails salons in the county based on YELP reviews and this is the ONLY place that has all the components I am looking for:***Clean and sanitary environment (5 out of 5)----if the salon is dirty, can you imagine what is on their tools!?!***Nice and outgoing technician that appears to enjoy her work (5 out of 5)***Quality polish job--neat and clean in appearance (5 out of 5)***Uniform length and thickness of nails (4 out of 5)***Excellent color options (5 out of 5)***Genuinely kind people who seem to enjoy interacting with others and do not exclude me from their conversations---That's so awkward! I got my gel nails done a couple of weeks ago while in Los Angeles and was completely bummed with the way they turned out. Nevertheless I let them grow out and chip away. Flash forward to this week as I'm getting ready to head out of town for a family function and realize just how haggard my nails look... I scoped out a couple of gel nail salons on yelp and ultimately decided to try The Lacquer Beauty Lounge. Best nail decision ever!I called on Tuesday morning and was contacted later that day by Yvette about setting up an appointment. After explaining my situation, she was able to squeeze me in this morning.The location- tucked behind some other small buildings/cottages, the space itself is very adorable and clean.The service- Yvette rocked! She took her time to explain and answer any questions I had regarding the gel process. Love Love Love Lona and Yvette and the Lounge. I have been going to Lona on and off for the past few years and love her. The salon is clean,  very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Lona and Yvette are really easy to work with and talk to. They not only knows how to do nails but knows about the products she works with to get you a custom look. I go there once a month.  My nails very seldom ever break or chip unless I do something extremely harsh to them... like slam my finger in a door.  I can't say enough good things. Read Less

I bought a Lacquer Beauty Lounge certificate through a promo at work.  I went there with my fiance last Tuesday and had a pretty disgusting experience.  Everything was going okay at first, but shortly after my fiance sat down with Lona she began making racist remarks about Asians and Africa-Americans.  Needless to say, it was a very awkward and appalling experience.  I definitely will not go back. Love the Lacquer Beauty Lounge!I had been randomly hunting around online for a new nail salon in my area. As much as I enjoy going to cheap salons to save a buck, my nails don't appreciate it as much as my wallet does. Tired of my nails peeling after manicures, I decided to give the lounge a try. \Lona is a licensed nail tech that knows her stuff. She gives great manicures and I never doubt the cleanliness of her salon. I'm also pretty sure she's the only one in Watsonville who does REAL gel nails, not just a gel topcoat over acrylics. You can see some of her gel art on the website. She is super funny, so it's a great experience all around. She has a wide selection of polishes to satisfy any color-holic. Your mani will last forever too!!The prices are good and the services here are clean. A must try for those who want great nail care.
