I really wanted to like this place. I saw it had 2.5 stars and had been there before 7 years ago, having a good experience so I thought I'd try it out again with a friend. I should had heeded the review's advice. This place is not very nice. The chairs are very worn and dated, there's multiple nail polish stains on their walls and furniture, and the floor looks stained and weathered as well. I put my feet in the water and quickly noticed it was dirty. I asked my beautician if she could drain the water because it looked dirty. She then argued with me that they clean them and that it wasn't dirty. I didn't want to argue back but both my friend and I could see floating particles in my water so I asked again if she could just drain the water and start over. She did do that for me, which I appreciated. The pedicure was rushed (she asked me to get of the chair bc they needed it as I waited about 5 min for my friend to finish) and mediocre. They have a good location right my The Coffee Shop and downtown walnut creek so I'm bummed that it wasn't a pleasant experience. The place was crowded though and you may have a better experience if you get someone else. $25 for the pedicure and she asked me in front of her and my friend if I wanted to tip. Ive been coming here for 14 years (when It used to be across the street) - I used to love it here. It was beautiful, serene, clean and friendly staff. Now everything is so run down and that is the least of it. The chairs are in disrepair and half barely work or don't at all.  The scariest part? I watched the woman who finished my pedicure put the dirty instruments back in the 'sterile" plastic box which means I highly doubt they even see the inside of their sterilizer. With the average age of their current staff, they can no longer see as well up close and I cannot tell you how many times Ive been cut and bleed. The staff is no longer friendly the way they had been even up to 3-4 years ago.To support my suspicions of their lack of cleanliness, I have had to wait from time to time and Ive watched them finish with one client, NOT CLEAN the foot bowl and just fill it back up for the next guest. No sanitizer, no scrubbing, no nothing. This is a health inspection waiting to happen.As if that couldnt be anymore disgusting, when was the last time you soaked your hands in their manicure bowls and did not feel grime in it? They used to put lotions etc in with the water - now it just water which they also dont clean - they dump the water in the pedicure bowl and put it back in their kit.I think a health inspector needs to check this place out - in the meantime, I am not returning. I dont need MRSA or some crazy fungus/infection from their dirty environment. Sorry Nail Shop but you need some help. Got my first ever shellac manicure (and pedi) done here, I thought it was fine while I was there but it does feel like the staff are trying to get it done as quickly as they can while just talking amongst themselves (I guess they're not paid enough to care about customer service...? It feels quite confrontational too when you go to pay and they ask you directly how much tip you want to add).Once I left I realised my cuticles had been totally flooded, leaving a ridge as the nails grew, so a few days later it all started lifting and peeling off. Had to go to a different place where they re-did it amazingly and it's still perfect after a week and a half.I don't know how prices compare in the area but it didn't seem cheap to me ($75 for shellac mani-pedi) so if you're going to fork out the money to pamper yourself, I would not suggest this place. Went there after receiving a gift card (usually go to Bollinger). We had a deluxe pedicure which was $40. The ambiance of the salon leaves something to be desired, it's pretty run down. The employees were all very nice and welcoming. There isn't anything wrong with my pedicure, it's just that I didn't leave feeling like I had a relaxing experience. This is one of the nicest looking nail salons I've been to. It definitely looks renovated. I love the decor inside. I actually came as a walk-in. I was sitting outside next door at the Coffee Shop with my friend and we were killing time so I decided to come in for a quick manicure. The lady who did my nails was really nice and she did a great job, it has been a week since I went here and my nails haven't chipped yet. It's $14 for a basic manicure. She threw in a back massage which was nice of her but it only felt good for the first minute or so after which it started to hurt and become uncomfortable. Next time I'll opt out of the back rub. This place has terrible customer service and cuts corners when it comes to gel manicures. I have no idea how it even has a 2.5 star review, but that should tell you something. I don't know why I continue to try to go here. Location is great- nice to the Coffee Shop which we love. In the summer it is hot and not well ventilated. But twice now, both on special occasions (birthdays), we have made appointments over an hour before a dinner reservation across the street. Both times, we waited for over a half an hour, and ultimately didn't have time to get our nails done. The infuriating part, is the staffs appearing to not care at all. Walked in on a Monday afternoon, the receptionist at the front greeted my sister and I with a non semi-rude attitude as to why we didn't make an appointment earlier... We were seen pretty soon, after walking to the back to choose our colors I had noticed the floors and almost all chairs looked so worn down. FYI most of the colors they have are old/dried up.Service was pretty good the lady was very nice and took about 10-15 minutes doing the actual pedicure. What made me give their 2 stars is ONLY because they saw us at a decent time. Their bowls where they do pedicures are down right disgusting. I noticed they do not clean after each  person, nor do they clean their tools. When i took my shoes off, you could literally see hair and dirt in the bowl. After noticing that i started to look at the other bowls, and their chairs and man this place needs a large clean up or a health inspector here. Its horrible and i will never ever come back! This place is pretty bad.  I got a shellac manicure.  The manicurist rushed me out of there, barely cut my cuticles, and applied the nail polish so thick that it dried on chunky, instead of smooth.  She talked over me the entire time I was there and then walked over to the cashier to make sure that I tipped her.  It was a very dissapointing experience and I wouldn't go back.  The woman at the register was really sweet and friendly though. They got me in quick but messed up my nails. I came in for a simple fill and they didn't do a good job. They also didn't bother to ask if I wanted them shaved down or reshape. And also gave me the wrong color, at that point I didn't say anything and wanted to leave. On top of that it was $35 and asked if I wanted to tip and I said no, $35 , she stared at me even after I said no expecting me to change my mind. I can't understand why this place has such a low average rating!! Just had a mani/pedi here yesterday and it's definitely my new favorite spot. Great massage chairs, lovely decor (I'm a sucker for chandeliers!), nice leg and shoulder massage included with the regular mani/pedi (which was only $35!), and most importantly...they did an awesome job on my nails. Also, the coffee shop next door is hands down the best place to get coffee east of Oakland :) That will be a different review, but the ability to grab a delicious lattè before/after certainly adds to the experience. I walked into The Nail Shop on June 15th around 1 pm.  I asked for a pedicure and shellac manicure.  After 10 minutes I was assisted by two staff members.  As they escorted me over to my chair, I noticed how filthy the salon was.  The chairs are worn, dirty, and made me uncomfortable.  The floors are dirty, the walls, the entire store looks like it's still under construction.Onto my nails:The woman working on my pedicure did an awful job.  She cut me, pinched the skin of my toes while cutting cuticles, and her massage was nonexistent.  I am also very suspicious about the sanitary conditions of this salon.  I noticed that after the manicurist and pedicurist finished using "clean" tools on me.  They washed and wiped them - then put them back in the "clean container".  At other salons; they immediately put them in a "dirty" container to keep separate.  The woman working on my hands did an ok job.  However a day later my nails were chipped, the shellac was peeling and lifting.  Unfortunately I was in New York and could not come in to have it fixed.  I paid $55 for both services; I called hoping I could get a refund but they only offered to "fix it".I do not want to come back into this salon and have them work on my nails.  I wased $55 at this joint.  The experience was NOT relaxing or clean.  My nails look awful, multiple nails have chipped and are snagging at my clothing!  Not to mention, I haven't washed a single glass or done any activities that could cause damage to my shellac.Stay away from this Nail Shop if you have high expectations for your nails. Simple name. The nail shop. Cute lil shop in walnut creek. Plenty of pedi seats. Their color selection is better than most I've seen. I like how they let you go to a back room to select the color. Better than having the colors brought to you while sitting to get your nails done. My co worker and I rec'd gift cards for here over a year ago and she was leaving on a cruise soon so we finally decided to use them. I will note, I had my card and she lost hers. Because I had mine, she still wanted to come here which I thought was very sweet of her. We both got gel/shellac manis. We set an appt a week before and when we arrived we were assisted immediately. I had gel on my nails already so it took some time to remove and get started. Overall my nail tech was good. She removed my gel properly and gently. My cuticles we're cleaned and the gel application was nice. Not the best, but nice. My co worker didn't have gel and hers was an easier application. Although a bug landed on one of her nails, she showed her nail tech and I believe the tech tried to fix it, but it still showed the mishap. I really want to say however, that the owner of this place is awesome. When we checked out I paid with my gift card and my coworker paid hers in cash. My co worker explained the gift card situation and without hesitation the owner reimbursed her! How amazing is that?!? Honestly I initially was not going to come back (for reasons like, I live far from here and I have my usual nail tech at my local shop) but because of the owner, I will come back. The young lady at the front desk was very sweet, helpful and accommodating. The nail technicians had an excellent attention to detail. I got a shellac pedicure and a regular manicure, it was $54 before tip. The only reason for four stars and not five is because the two nail technicians working on me had an extremely long conversation in Vietnamese.  It was like they were just having a regular conversation and not at work. I didn't feel like I was important enough for them to stop their conversation. I know of others that have had good experiences here, but I came in the middle of a weekday to get a gel manicure and had a really awful experience. They weren't very busy, but my manicurist was in a hurry to get somewhere and painted the gel all over my cuticles, which I was picking off for several days. I don't think I'll ever be back. Great place for a basic, quick manicure. Loved their selection of nail polishes, it filled up a whole wall! They also offer shellac nail polish. TIP: the shellac swatches are darker and not as bright as the real color. Came in with a girlfriend for a brief pampering session. We called ahead and made a reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived. The store also takes walk ins. I opted for a simple manicure ($14) and it was fast, quick, and clean. I checked in on yelp and received $2 off my manicure! I understand when people say that the staff can be unfriendly, but it seemed that the language barrier may have been the reason that my manicurist was relatively quiet. Probably only took 20 minutes for my manicure and was very happy with the attentiveness and outcome of my nails.Bottom line. If you're looking to be pampered...go elsewhere. I really enjoyed The Nail Shop when I lived in Walnut Creek. I ventured to several shops before making this one my regular nail salon. They can do shellac manicures and pedicures. Their receptionist is very accommodating and will make a point of checking in with you during slower times at the shop. The only obstacle is parking. I've been a customer of the Nail Shop for years and was really surprised to see some of the recent negative reviews. I have always found that the ladies at the Nail Shop do a great job and provide a luxurious experience at an economy price, and there certainly are plenty of us 'regulars' who keep coming back. When I want a more elaborate treatment, it's easy to add extra massage time or a callus treatment to my pedi. When I need to get in and out quickly, I get a great pedicure with massage at a very fair price. It's the best $20 I spend on myself in a week, and I always leave with pretty toes and a relaxed frame of mind. Like with any service provider, you should speak up if there are particular things that you want, but I have always found that from receptionist to technician, the folks here do a great job and make me feel like a valued customer. If you're on a tight timeline, call ahead and put your name on the list for faster service. The location is also great, with proximity to parking and downtown shopping. I received a gift card from my mother that the Nail Shop forgot to put actual $ on which would have totaled $10. When I went to redeem the card (again a nominal amt.) the person who works at the front hassled me about having a receipt for the gift card. In the process of trying to locate this for her my manicure got very damaged. I actually had tipped 20% prior to this encounter and ended up with a less then satisfactory manicure & an uncomfortable situation with the employee which drew attention from other patrons. I would like to also note that I took my entire bridal party to this location about two years ago and treated them to manicures and pedicures spending hundreds of dollars (roughly $500) on that occasion not to mention the other times I visited the shop. I did not receive an apology from this employee or the owner whom I called to notify of the situation. As someone who loves to get my nails done, I will likely not return and it is too bad for the salon when there is so much competition out there. Read Less

i did not like this place at all!! one of the older ladies did my nails and first i didnt understand what she was saying.. i had made an appt for acrylic and she did pink and white. second, she took FOREVER on my nails and they still came out unsatisfactory. third, she had a sharp nail that she dug into the sides of my nails. i've never went to a nail salon where they had hurt me. she made me b l e e d and all she said was ""opps i made a mistake."" and started laughing. after she spoke in a different language and all of the other employees came over and looked at my nails. when i was almost finished, she had told me to out my nails in front of a fan and another one of the employers sat next to me and asked me if she could see my hand to see if i was finished or not. afterwards she just put my hands down and and laughed without telling me if i was finished or not. so i asked her and she stuttered and said ""o yeah you're finished"" I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN AND I HIGHLY RECCOMEND YOU DON""T EITHER!!!! I was kept waiting fifteen minutes - work station not very clean, manicurist picked debris out of the powder until I insisted she open a new jar. At 10:30 am it was 43 degrees outside and they had the door open and no heat in the salon - absoluetely freezing. All the employees were wearing coats, no heat at all. When I asked the owner to please close the door he said he wouldn't , but he'd put the heat on - he was rude and short. This Simon LeGreu is unreal, you can tell his employees are frightened of him and his demeanor is downright hostile and unkind. You couldn;t pay me to return to this shop.
