Feel like I FINALLY found a place that does my gel manicure right (and I have tried a lot of the local places both in T.Oaks and in Newbury Park) I wouldnt have thought that this small shop tucked away in a strip mall would do the trick but they do an EXCELLENT job that lasts for weeks. I'm from out of town but came here to get my nails done before a wedding. I was just going to do a clearish color but she convinced me to do French and I am so glad she did. She freehanded the French which is impressive but what was more impressive was that it was perfect which I am picky about my French. The line was even on the smaller side but not too small. I am absolutely thrilled with this place. I yelped places close to my house and this was walking distance. It definitely looks like the cliche mom n pop nail salon upon walking in, but the staff was extremely impressive! Everyone seemed to acknowledge that I arrived (I called earlier in the day to try and fit in for dip powder mani and a pedi) and when I told them I was there for my 6:30 they addressed me by name, offered me to look through the color options while they cleaned up and prepped from the last client, and then seated me in my massage chair quickly. Michelle did my mani and was friendly, greeting me by name and looking me in the eyes asking me how my day was going. She did a GREAT job and really paid attention to how she filed and shaped my nails, and ensured each one was polished perfectly, not missing any sides or edges! Nina did my pedi and this woman seriously took her time to make sure I got a good foot massage...seriously that is like, the difference in tipping for me and for requesting a tech by name vs taking anyone who's available. This salon is hands down the best salon in the Newbury Park/ Thousand Oaks area. The staff is pleasant and friendly. I feel like they genuinely enjoy seeing customers when they walk into their place of business, and are always helpful when it comes to a request. They not only put on acrylics beautifully, but they also remove the acrylics with little damage to the nail itself. I had worn acrylics for two weeks, and when I went to take them off I had expected my nails to be flimsy and weak (like usual) but was pleasantly surprised to find that my nail bed wasn't as effected since they didn't take any harsh tools to the fake nail right away. They removed the nail easily and with little to no pain on my end. All in all, this place is friendly and clean. I swear they are little wizards down there. My nails not only look healthy, but feel healthier after I see them, and that is a huge accomplishment in my book. Read Less

My mom and I both got pedicures here and getting them to do what we wanted was a struggle. I asked the lady who was doing mine toenails of she could do a pineapple design (which I showed her a picture of beforehand), to which she said yes. While she was removing the dead skin from the surrounding area, she cut in too deep to a point where she made me bleed. A similar thing happened with my mom. My mom asked for a blue and white (French tip-like) design, which the first lady did, but in a very mediocre fashion. All the white stripes were of different thickness, from nail to nail. Another lady had to come in and fix it. For my nails, after she put on the base coat, she asked me to show her the design again and said she couldn't do it - she could only do flowers. I asked her why she said she could do it in the beginning, at which point another lady interjected and said it just wouldn't look good with the color I had picked and if she messed up, it would be a waste of time and she would have to start all over. At that point, I was pretty much done and wanted to get out of there. If she couldn't do the design in the first place, I would rather have been told beforehand so that I could go somewhere else. I'm going to start off by saying that I am VERY PICKY when it comes to my nails. My coworker recommended this place and I couldn't be happier! The NEW manager is so sweet and did my nails EXACTLY how I told her. They weren't pushy with any add ons with my pedicure either. Although it is clean, it's not the most glamorous place (which I don't mind because my nails look amazing). The owners before them didn't do well at all and sold it to the new owner a couple months ago, who only has three employees because she can't afford to hire more people. ): But they are amazing!!! My acrylic nails and gel pedicure look flawless!!! This is my new place!!! I highly suggest this place if you care about how your nails look and don't mind that it isn't the nicest place. I really wanted to give this place five stars because I've been coming here for years with no complaints, but after getting a manicure and full acrylic set with Michael this weekend I have a very painful infection on the side of my nail. I should have said something as soon as I saw unsterilized tools but lesson learned. I'll be honest, I love the manicure but the sterilization issue is unforgivable. Read Less

A positive experience over all. Nobody else on Saturday morning had room for us. So my daughter & I took a chance on a new [to us] nail salon. My mani/pedi was perfect. But, for the price, I would have preferred just a bit longer massages. Honestly, the SPA experience of a SPA mani/pedi is the pampering, right? My daughter's nails looked fine, but she noticed the nail technician didn't clean under her toenails at all. She did it @ home herself. They were very nice and the place is clean. This was my first time at Unique nails and I was thrilled with everything, especially the manicure and pedicure. Anna orchestrated everything and she was ON IT. She was personable and professional. I was impressed that the clientele included a mix of men and women as well as the people working there. They have great massaging chairs and soaked my feet in a hot solution for a looong time - something I haven't experienced anywhere else.Granted, I don't have a broad range of experience as I don't pamper myself often with personal services. But I've usually had lukewarm to cold water elsewhere for 3 minutes. They worked to speak English around me and include me in the conversation (again RARE), they had good nature ribbing among each other and included me in the "inside jokes". I also had a wax and Anna was great. The only item of note was that I would have liked some powder afterward - but had I mentioned that I am sure that she would have accommodated me. And it was budget friendly and they offer a children's price list for kids under 10. Very nice so that I can bring my daughter with me on special occasions for a Mommy/Daughter mani/pedi.
