This place is one of the worst nail places I've ever been. It's not clean feeling when you walk in, their tools aren't sanitized, and they're not very nice. The man tried to take off my acrylics and was shaking and made me bleed, pulling off my nails, then blamed it on me. My mom got a pedicure and the kid was playing with the tools, dropped one on the floor, then the woman used it. Not sanitary at all. Will never go back and recommend that no one ever goes. Read Less

I went on a quiet Tuesday morning. The pedicure was very thorough and the gel manicure done professionally. Lots of colors to chose from! The shop is very clean and doesn't reek of nail chemicals. The man and woman that provided my services were very polite and extremity professional. Without asking they adjusted my chair to be comfortable and kept refreshing the massage function throughout. I never had to reach, or strain, or adjust anything. One of the most enjoyable, comfortable, and relaxing experiences I've had at a nail salon in ages, and I go fairly regularly back home. Came to get a pedicure while visiting for a week. They fit us in last minute which was great. Not sure if they were in a hurry because they had another appointment coming in or what! The pedicure lasted about 15 minutes before they started painting our nails. Normally the massage part of the pedicure lasts about 20+ minutes at other nail salons. Unfortunately there are not many nail places to choose from up here. Probably won't be coming back here :( Read Less

They were a cute husband and wife team.  I was desperate to get my nails done.  I was not going to pay for resort prices though.  It was nice to take a less than 10 minute drive to the area this nail salon is located.  There were beautiful views of the park in front of it with snowy mountains. Not too bad of a place. Run by husband wife.  A bit pricey; $35 for a very  basic pedicure & $45 for a gel full set.  He did my manicure and was kind of pushy but overall good.  He didn't use that small drill bit under the nails to clean it up.  The wife did my "spa pedicure" (only choice available) which was more like a normal "$15-$20 pedi". For $35 I would have expected it to include the paraffin wax treatment.  Quality was very good.  Establishment was generally clean and didn't smell.  The only complaint I have is their tools (nail files, clippers, cuticle cutters) weren't in one of those sterilized bags. I really enjoyed my experience at Unique Nail Salon. I didn't have an appointment but they were able to get me in after a short 15 minute wait while I chose my colors. They were super friendly and accommodating! I usually don't really like getting my nails done because I've been to some uncomfortable and awkward nail salons. This one is smaller than most but I didn't feel awkward at all.Prices are a bit expensive in my opinion, but like I said I don't go very often. I went in to get gel polish on my nails.  It looked really good.  I had a cracked nail and the man showed it to me and fixed it.  Did a really good job.  That was over three weeks ago.  The nails still look good but I made an appointment to get them done again this evening because my nails have grown a lot since then.  The family that runs the salon is really sweet.  I am really happy and will continue to go back to these guys.  A+As far as the ventilation, I had no problem with smells.  They even have incense going to kill chemical smells (or so I think).  All is pretty great.Jessica Read Less

I can't give a low enough review!!!They completely wrecked my nails. They say they know how to do gel nails and then proceeded to place my whole hand in a dish of acetone and then pull off the gel polish - which completely wrecked my nails!! Read Less

Really nice people; however, sad and painful to say I got a toe nail infection a few days later. I think it was from the cuticle clippers. (Paronychia) make sure to ask if they've properly disinfected/ sterilized their instruments. Hurts to walk, hopefully it goes away soon. Read Less

I called  ahead for appointment but they do take walk-ins as well.  As soon as I walked in she acknowledged me as she was giving a pedicure.  Her husband started the tub and my feet were in within 5 minutes.  As soon as she finished with her cient she started removing my gel nails for a new set.  Husband actually did my gel nails as he was finished with my pedicure by the time she finished removing the old set.  Both the pedi and gel mani were great, very gentle and through.  I chose to not have massage on my legs so total of $62 for both I guess not bad for a vacation area.  Back home it would have been $55. The woman doing pedicures was very sweet but the price was high- $6 too much for a pedi and kids color change was twice what I usually pay. There was also a really cute but rambunctious child- theirs, I assume, that made the visit almost stressful. I think if you're going to take your screaming, running, falling child to work in what's supposed to be a relaxed environment, you better drop your prices! Read Less

I'll give Exotic Nails 3 stars, mainly for it's location - it's one of the only (if not the only) nail places in Tahoe City.I was in Tahoe for a wedding last weekend and wanted to get my nails done. Exotic Nails was just a couple of blocks from my hotel, so I gave it a try. The first thing I noticed (and all the other reviews here definitely gave my a heads up about this) was the strong fumes! Exotic Nails is located in the upstairs section of a building that houses a few different retail stores. It's a bit out of the way and doesn't have very good air-flow. However, there is a good-sized window in there and a fan (that was not on at the time). I think just opening the window and keeping the fan on would do wonders. My pedicure came out well, but it was a little more expensive than I'm used to paying ($32) and I wasn't 100% positive that the tools were sanitized after each use - at my normal place, they show them to you in a sealed pouch first. Called and asked if they could do a full set, they responded in broken english that in fact yes they could.  I then show up and the man makes a rude comment about how I should have made an appointment.  Needing my nails done for a wedding I was going to in Tahoe I decided to get them done there anyways.He starts to work on my nails, and immediately starts asking me why I bite my nails and how the acrylics aren't going to look right because my nails are too short.  He then discovers that I am not from the area and that I won't be back for a fill since I live a few hours from Tahoe.  At that point he lost total interest in me.  30 dollars for some plain french tip acrylics?  Yikes! Small and quaint location with slight view of lake. No frills mani/pedi - there doesn't seem to be a difference from the "color change" except for an increased price! The women do a phenominal job on the nails, while the man who owns the shop is horrible. We had to have the girls re-do any nails he touched so they didn't look hideous at the wedding. On the plus side, they quickly and graciously fixed everything. The place also overbooked and took walk-ins during our bridal party for which we had already reserved...making our group take turns and wait while others were taken care of first.
