Love this place so so so much! Only place that didn't mess up my nails and made everything look symmetrical. Places I've been to before, my nails would chip the same day or within the first week. I went into this salon last weekend with a recommendation of a family member since I'm not from the San Francisco area. It didn't take long before we were seated which was nice. I asked for a regular pedicure and a gel manicure. For the pedicure I had an ingrown nail and that was my main concern. It's been almost a week since then and I had felt my toe sore but I thought it was normal since the piece of nail was taken out. I looked at it today and my toe is infected and swollen. I just wanted to write this review to let people know that this experience has happened to me and hopefully doesn't happen to anyone else. I'll have to go get an antibiotic and possible nail surgery from my doctor.... For the gel manicure for some reason 3 different people did my nails, why I'm not sure I think they need to re-evaluate there system. WILL NOT BE GOING BACK! Picture of my toe is down below. It was my first time here since i just moved to the area. I had first walked in to another shop and said i was in for a full-set. The guy at the front rudely said, "not now, we are busy for the rest of the day. Do you want to make appointment for next week?" "Uhh, no thanks!" So i called pennys and asked and they instantly said yes! When i arrived there was someone at each table, i was told to pick my color. I waited for maybe 30 mins tops. (It was a Saturday around 3pm) 'The wedding planner' was playing so i didn't really mind. I was helped by the woman w short hair & glasses; i didn't catch her name. She asked what i wanted & quickly got to work. Overall im happy w my nails--she made sure to ask if i was happy w length and shape. She took her time to file and applied an even amount of powder (no bumps). I asked for gel color and she took her time w that as well. Im not giving them 5 stars because although she took her time she was not very careful w the machine she went to close up towards the cuticle area and cut me on a few fingers and pulled the bottom skin of my nail to far on another finger and that hurts. She also kept walking away when ppl came in for waxing.. i dont think i should have to wait because someone JUST walked in. Overall i was pretty happy. A little more than i expected for gel full-set and the length i chose ($40+tip) but still within reason. I guess im still used to east bay pricing. I LOVE this place. They always make me feel genuinely welcome and never rushed. I've been coming here for a few years now and they have always given me great service! They never push any other services on me other than what I ask for. For walk-ins: If they are busy, they will give you a very accurate estimated time. I really like that they DON'T lie about the wait time with the fear of losing your business. I usually go to Binh for my nails and she is amazing! I've been coming here for a few years now, mostly because the prices are great. $40 for a gel mani and regular pedi, but the past few times I've been in, I've been less than satisfied. The women working here are ALWAYS rushed. It's clear they stay well past their business hours every day as to not turn anyone away. (Moreover, there seems to always be a pregnant technician). They seem to lack a system to address and finish customers; I often have at least two ladies working on my nails- at least three if I'm getting my toes done too. My biggest critique is their rush. To remove my gel, they file hard, soak and wrap in foil, and shove the tool back and forth HARD on my nail to the point where it hurts. In one specific instance (that's happened more than once), I pull away, say ouch, and after a couple seconds, give my hand back. The woman proceeds to hack away with the tool with the same intensity. There's no massage, just a quick slab of lotion and hot towel, and the polish job is average, at best. They often do not paint all the way to the cuticle (something tells me this is intentional so I have to come back sooner), the far edges of my nails are often not painted, and if I ever bring ANY of these flaws up, I'm met with frustration and more speed-work.Another time, a woman painted ONE nail, I was dissatisfied with the color, and asked to change it. She stood up hastily and perceptibly frustrated, began speaking in Vietnamese, and rushed my color choice. I decided on another color as fast as possible, and the paint job was sorry- uneven, bumpy, and not filled all the way in. It was almost as if I sent my food back and the chef spat it in. I really loved this place, their prices, and the proximity to my house, but their lack of professionalism and rush are aspects of a place I don't want to continue giving my loyalty to. Sorry Penny's! This used to be my go-to spot, but slowly started to change when I noticed some of the technician's attitudes and how they operate. They rush you, they rush their work, and they're unprofessional. Kim did a great job when i'd come in for a regular gel polish so I made sure to always ask for her, but this place is always busy and they try to accommodate more than what they can handle. They always have people jumping around from one client to another without even finishing them up.I came in once with a semi broken nail from the nail bed and I made it verbally known AND showed the pregnant technician. She completely disregarded what I said and started to file the broken nail to shape it. She filed it so hard that my nail nearly ripped off causing it to bleed, so I pulled away and said "ouch!" She looked at me, doesn't even apologize, and leaves with her tools and started raising her voice- speaking in Vietnamese. Another lady comes (i'm not sure if she's the owner) looks at my nail and says "oh, broken?" I said, "Yeah, i told the lady it was broken and she filed it really hard." She ends up putting rubbing alcohol on my finger and added nail glue where my nail had ripped. She rushed on polishing my nails and insisted that I only pay $20 because of the incident. A few weeks later, I made sure to call and make an appointment with Kim. The lady on the phone didn't ask for my name or number, but told me to come the next day at 6pm. So I come in around 5:50p and announced that I had a 6pm appointment with Kim, they told me to sit down. It was already 6:10 and the same lady who made my broken nail worse from my last visit tells me to sit down and I specifically told her I made an appointment with Kim. She started being rude and grabs her tool off the table, walks away, and starts yelling in Vietnamese and the only thing I made out was Kim's name. No point in making an appointment if they don't even take your information down. Kim didn't come to the table until 6:30pm because she was busy eating a few feet away from me. She didn't take her time like she usually did and I was left unsatisfied. Sad it had to come down to this because she was my go-to. Definitely not coming back here. Read Less

Penny's has been my neighborhood go-to nail saloon for the last few months!I'm incredibly pleased with their service, prices, and speed. For my acrylic + gel fill, it's usually a total of 45 minutes. I needed a place to go to for a girls pampering day.. there was a total of 5 girls and we didn't even call ahead. When we walked in we were greeted and he staff worked hard to accommodate all of us. Their nail polish and gel polish selection is extensive, but very organized.I decided to try acrylic because my nails seem a bit brittle lately so I was nervous how this new place would do. I was impressed at the job they did. They made sure I liked the shape and was happy with how many coats they did on my nails. The service was ok. They could be a little more friendly, but they weren't rude either. I was very impressed with this place. All my girls loved heir mani/pedis too. Glad we tried it. $40 for gel mani and spa pedi is the cheapest I've seen in the Bay Area (I miss LA so much). I called 10 places near SF/Peninsula before I booked Penny's purely based on price.I arrived at 10:45am and it was empty. By 11am, it was filled with customers. I had never been to a place this efficient. If you're in a rush, I highly recommend Penny's. One lady removed my existing gel nail color, manicured my nails, and painted 3 coats of a new gel color while another woman did my toes. I was completely done within 55 minutes.That's 30-45 minutes faster than any other place I've been to, even with two people working on me simultaneously.That said, the attention to detail is just not quite there. When the woman took off my existing gel nail color, she used more acetone than necessary and my fingers dried out. She also scraped pretty hard against my nails and didn't really care if she got too close to my nail bed and it was starting to hurt me. I feel like some steps must have been skipped with the manicure/pedicure and the nail painting was not as precise as other places I've been to. Read Less

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. I came here two times. First time I got acrylics and a pedicure. Service was typical and prices were super cheap. My nails were extremely sore for an entire day. My nails are usually never this sore but she probably drilled too far. I was satisfied with the service and tipped them well. I was not expecting super great service for the price but I didn't need anything fancy. The second time I came here. Dear god. Currently praying right now that I don't get an infection and my finger swells up. If you get your nails done here DONT LET THE GUY TOUCH THEM. He has no idea what he is doing. I needed to get my acrylics taken off and the lady who gave me my pedicure was busy. She told him to do it. He responded that he was not comfortable doing it and she said it is just the drill and he will be fine. (They said this in Vietnamese btw). He ended up drilling so much that he drilled off my nail and into the nail bed. The whole place heard me exclaim in pain and he immediately stopped and walked away. The boss lady came and finished me up. My right hand looks so much better than the hand the guy worked on. I could have done a better job using my feet! The boss lady was painting my nails and I told her to avoid the finger with the missing nail. She painted over it and I told her I'm in pain. It is an open wound and I don't want nail polish in an open wound. She proceeded to blow on it and asked me if it felt better......When I finished she asked me for my name and number. Why? Are you going to blacklist me? I'm never coming back anyways. Seemed very shady. This place is not sanitary. If you are looking for a quick cheap basic experience this place suffices. They said us both down on the chairs with the water running I sat there the whole time they did my niece well they were doing her toes.
