Both myself and my friend go there frequently. I recommend making an appointment because otherwise they'll take long to help you. Don't let the guy do your manicure (sorry). Pedicure was Very disappointing. Water backed up in the chair I was put in, so she had me move to the next chair over After she put oil on my feet. Very hard to walk across the floor with oil on your feet!! The other nail ladies were yelling at my nail girl and pointing at the chair from the time she started the pedicure. Very disappointed in my recent experience here. I got a shellac manicure ($25) and in less than 24 hours it had chipped. Not a big deal, it does happen from time to time and most places are willing to fix it. I didn't have time to go the first day so I went the second and by then 5 nails had chipped. I explained the situation and they asked who did my nails. I pointed out the woman and she came up grabbed my hands, looked at my nails and said no she hadn't done it. Someone else then began to explain they don't do refunds and suggested I may have not even gotten them done at that salon. I was totally insulted that they would now start suggesting I'm lying and that the woman who did them was refusing to acknowledge that she did them. I can't believe how I was treated, it was quite shocking. They refused to help me and I walked away out $30 and with ugly nails. Very unprofessional and very disappointing and very rude. This place is really hit or miss. The last time I came here I got a pedicure and payed extra for the chocolate scrub and lotion/ parafin wax. She only used the scrub, but never used the other products and just did a terrible/ rushed job on my pedicure. After she put my first coat of polish on, a party of several women walked in and she left to go attend to them and didn't come back. After 20 minutes I finally ask another employee if she was coming back to finish. When she did, she told me my nails were dry and I could go. But after looking at my toes she realized she had only done the top coat and tried to laugh it off. She rushed to finish painting them and I still had to pay for the extra products she never used. Issues I had with my visit:- even with an appointment, my friends and I waited 20 minutes in the pedi chairs before anyone acknowledged us, even though there was hardly any customers there.- they seemed very short staffed.- my nail lady did not greet me or ask me what kind of pedicure that I wanted...I guess I had the basic pedicure?- nail lady seemed annoyed and irritated that she was giving me a pedicure. - the salon was dirty: the workstations looked unkept and unprepared for new clients, food bits that had not been cleaned up from past meals on the workstations, "clean" tools were just pulled out of a drawer or a towel rather than from a sanitized container, and the pedicure chairs are showing signs or wear like holes and just dirty.  Does the State Board of Equalization read these reviews?- there were still Christmas decorations up and it's July.- they were playing a Kenny G cd.- very minimal effort was put into the pedicure.- my lady never mentioned or offered the manicure that I had requested.- all of the nail ladies abandoned us at some point and moved on to other clients. - there are no nail drying station with lights and fans.- upon paying, a woman took the money and just walked away.  You have a nice day too!- I feel sorry for the ladies who work here, I'm sure they haven't had an easy life.  They don't speak English and look like they were shipped here from some terrible country that I have no idea how to spell.Things that went well with my visit:- we easily found a parking space.- the nail lady who helped the little girl who was with us was actually pretty nice to her.- I got a good lower back massage from the pedicure chair. This nail salon is so clean and friendly. Nancy did an amazing job on my gel fill. She was very gentle and took her time so they turned out amazing. She was also very accommodating as I walked in before closing. I highly recommend this place. They treat you like family as you leave, and I've never experienced that before. Very inconsiderate of your time. Was there to get a Mani/pedi and walked out having only gotten my toes done when I was there for over an hour. This place is awful i went today and it was empty and it seemed like they didn't even know I was there they all took 30 min break and then u asked if they were going to do my nails and they said they would do my nails in 5 min I said ok then people came in they completely forgot I was just sitting there 30 minutes later a lady came and said she was going to do my nails and then I was all happy but then when she fixing up my nails she had to paint them and when she put the red polish on my nails it all driped down my fingers it even looked like I was bleeding and she did not even clean up the huge mess she had done then she wanted 25 dollars. I regret not reading the reviews for Escape Nail and Day Spa before going in as a new customer.  I thought I was being  treated differently because of the color of my skin or maybe because it was obvious that I'm an out of towner that will possibly never until I spoke to two customers outside that previously had the same experience  as I.  I'm currently living bicoastal between my hometown in Louisiana and here in Santa Cruz while my husband is on a nursing travel assignment.  It was he that prompted me to give them a trying considering he had first pedicure here in my absence and they offered him a glass of fruit diffused water and some Chex mix which was amazing to him.  Boy, was he wrong!  I was seated right away but waited 30 mins before I was serviced.  I do like the fact that the guy that did my coffin shaped nails fullset took his time and paid close attention to detail, although it took him an hour.  My nails were very nice.  I asked for bubble bath in regular polish but was forced to get it in gel which cost $40.  At this point I'm still not upset at the price because he was friendly and his work was nice.I was instructed  to set in set 4 for my pedicure and was offered the option of basic or deluxe.  I chose deluxe to ensure my feet would be soft and smooth when I returned home to my husband assume that the deluxe pedicure included the works.  I was the only lady in a pedicure chair that was not offered water and Chex mix although I wasn't offended because I don't eat Chex mix and I had a  bottle of water in my purse.My pedicure was rushed and there was no greeting or any interaction  between the lady that performed my pedicure and I. She actually spoke to the other customers besides me. I'm still not offend because I didn't realize what was going on until she continued stressing the fact that the deluxe pedicure is $40 as if she wanted me to just get the basic or as if I couldn't afford it.I didn't receive  a leg massage like the ladies next me and I didn't get any hot stones.  I'm still not upset at this time because I wasn't concerned about relaxation, although it would have been nice for the massage chair to work.  My main concern were my plantar calluses which were not removed.  She used the softest pumas I have ever seen and felt after soaking my feet in cold water. I basically paid $40 for my toes being polished because my feet showed no other sign of a deluxe pedicure.  I called the next day to ask if they could use a foot scalpel  or a more sufficient scrubber to get the job done.  The guy that answered told me to come in in an hour and he would fix it.  I showed up on time but was giving to a younger that I hadn't seen on the previous day.  She didn't let me soak my feet in water and she used the same soft and small pumas as the day before.  I was then told that they don't use foot scrubbers or scalpels at all.  She put some type of cuticle oil onto the pumas and this time you can actually  see some on the dead skin come off the hill of my feet.  My feet were definitely  softer and smoother with less dead skin as the day before but I know the job could have been nicer if she would have completely removed all the dead skin.She then tried to charge me $11 for a service that should have been completed the day before.  Now Im finally  upset and Im pissed that this half ass $40 deluxe pedicure that was constantly stressed is actually costing me $51.  When I explained that I spoke to the guy and he confirmed that he would fix it for free considering the fact that it should have been done properly the day prior she decided to take $5 off of the $11.  I planned on tipping whomever fix it just for there extra time but I didn't plan on being charge for semi soft feet after paying $40 and expecting soft feet the day before.  I will never spend anymore money inside of Escape.  I will try out Tiffany's in a few weeks. I got my nails done here today. They're lumpy, my cuticles are flooded, and it's streaky. I wanted holographic powder nails, the first one I picked out was out of stock, they then proceeded to put on TWO different powders that I didn't ask for then just slapped a streaky gel polish on top. There should be a half star option for this place. I've been here before and had mixed experiences. Sometimes I get a great pedicure and other times we have sat and waited and waited... the staff is miserable and it shows! Since the expansion this business has REALLY GONE DOWNHILL! Which makes me sad because the owner gives one heck of a manicure- on another note/ my friend just wanted a polish change. After we waited and waited and WAITED FOREVER. We were checking out, the lady YELLED AT HER insisting she had a full manicure and says she didn't "want" the arm massage. So after she was done yelling. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Went in to get pedicure and acrylic nails with a group. Took 3 1/2 hours and we made an appt the previous week. They kept leaving the nail table to work on other people or swap people. Wayyyyyy over charged us. They cut my finger several times with a file. They didn't clean up the left over acrylic or super glue stuck to my fingers! $85 a person. Are you flippn for real??!! I paid them just so I could get out of there. First of all, there's something called QUALITY over QUANTITY. The woman doing my nails rushed through it. I was getting gel nails. Actually, she didn't even finish. She rushed to start on another lady who was about to leave because of how long the wait was. I had to wait another 10 minutes. If it was possible to give 0 stars that's what this place deserves. I used to come here ALL the time and stopped coming due to the chaotic environment/extensive wait times. However thought I'd give it a try again, and I left furious. I had the stamp cards (2 of them) which each had more than half stamps full so naturally I thought I'd get the $15 off that is stated on the cards but no. They didn't honor it because "it wasn't on the same card"? This place is a joke and finds anyway to take your money. Avoid this place at all cost. They're rude, unfriendly, and chaotic. Ask for Anna when you go here.  I live getting gel nails & honestly, even though Im in San Jose now, I like the service for the most part better in Santa Cruz, which is ironic since the manicurists all live over the hill too... There are pros and cons to " Escape Salon & Spa"Here are my personal thumbs ups and cons:Thumbs Up: They usually take you quickly- because they are rarely full - which leads me to all the cons which is why they aren't ever packed fullCon 1.  Except for (Ana) and a few others - the Management are a pain in the ass.  The woman who sits up front and collects the money may try  to take you as a client.  I've stumbled into her trap 2x- it is a Gawd awful time.  She stops 25 times to talk to people coming in, taking tips, answering the phone and is totally distracted.  Stay away from that one!Con 2. As if the first con was not bad enough, I have been there for an eyebrow waxing & they had ( no joke) a rice maker in the room.  Holy crap- no! Yes, women were coming in to get food during my waxing....which I am positive is really not in line with State board.Con 3. Soooo over this place. The first time I went it took forever to get helped and when they did help my nails looked decent. I figured it was just a busy day so I tried again and got my eye brows waxed, they made me bleed! Stupid me, my mother got a $30 gift certificate and wasn't going to use it because she had shoulder surgery so I used it and they charged me $20 for acrylic, $5 for long nails and $5 for coffin shape. $30 for these?! They looked horrible. It was a 45 minute wait and she cut me 6 out of 10 fingers! How is this place even open?! They have a bar area but don't offer drinks to anyone except for like 5% of their customers. I got water and only because I asked. The people are super rude and were talking in Chinese the whole time. Wasn't asked how I was doing or anything. And 3 out of 10 nails popped off 3 days after! Not going back here! Read Less

I don't know why this place only have 2 stars! This is my second time here, and I don't have any complaints. It's actually probably one of the nicest salons I have ever been in. I always do a walk in and haven't had to wait more than 10 mins (could just be my exceptional timing lol). And they have a great amount of colors to chose from. Especially gel. Holy canoli there are a lot. Their pedicures are $35 but you get a shoulder massage with it, and I would say it's pretty damn worth it! They always offer water, tea, snacks!
