Received a gift certificate for a mani pedi for Christmas. Went to use it 2 weeks ago tomorrow and experienced something I never have before. When I walked in I thought I was in the wrong place since I saw a salon and not any nail stations or chair's. I waited for a few minutes until someone came up and asked me what I needed. That is when I saw a very young girl walk out of a room toward the back of the building. She directed me to come back with her but I was confused on why she was taking me into the break/ laundry room. That is when I realized that they had squeezed in 2 nail stations and 2 chairs. It was a very tight and uncomfortable space. The chairs were also very low and very uncomfortable. Both the lady next to me and I mentioned it and both the nail technicians said that the owner wouldn't listen and that they have gone through 2-3 different chairs. I was already feeling awkward and in no way relaxed when the other employees of the salon started coming in and out to grab extra towels and refilling their coffee cups and water bottles. At that point I really wanted to leave. But since I was in the middle of my service I thought I might as well just get it over with. To make matters worse the girl doing my nails was very young, shy and didn't say a word. To me she even looked a little hungover and it looked like she still had her p.j's on. I don't think she had been there long, or knew what she was really doing. She painted over my old toe polish and when I said something to her she said there was nothing she could do since I had ridges in my nails. Which I've never ever heard before or have had a problem with taking off old polish. With my nails she never did my cuticles. She just painted them and rushed my out due to the fact her next client was there. She asked me to leave the room quickly and to wait to pay for my upgrade while she got the other lady settled. At that point I noticed an older larger women with blonde hair talking down to my tech and about a client that she had just saw which was not pleased with her hair. The lady was complaining and I heard her say.. "oh well, it happens." REALLY? I was going to say something at that point but then at the same time I didn't think it would have done any good. So I just left. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE AND WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY! The only reason I gave 2 stars was for my nice conversation with the other older nail tech. In my past manicure/pedicure treatments at other locations they've typically been rushed and a little uncomfortable from bleeding cuticles. Ow. I've been a little hesistant to keep up with my nails since. However, I had an AWESOME experience here. I was gifted a Groupon for the Ultimate Pedi/Mani for my birthday and it was quite the treat. I'll admit I was at first deterred by some of the reviews I had seen on here. Then again, as someone who works in the business of serving folks as a living, I took into mind you just can't please everyone even if it's all done right. Onto the review!My manicurist was Rochelle and she was so wonderful. She was very hospitable, offered fresh water or hot tea, had extensive knowledge with her products, and made me feel very comfortable. The treatment was also so lovely! Took away a star because its been only a week and a half and the gel polish is pretty much falling off without effort....Me and my friend bought the Groupon for the 'ultimate mani pedi' ($80 value). To start, they are very hard to get a hold of. I played phone tag for about a week trying to make an appointment, eventually had my friend call and she made an appointment for a Sunday morning for both of us. She called them back 15-20 min later with my Groupon code and she is told they are not open sundays and the apt was for monday. My friend called back the next day and spoke to a different person and confirmed our appointment was indeed for Sunday. (Unorganized much?).  So on Sunday we get there at 9 am and our stylist (Taylor) is 30 min late. Because she was coming on her day off the shop was closed and we waited outside (no phone call, we were about to leave when she showed up). I do appreciate that she agreed to come in on her day off to get us in, but she was not prepared at all. She said she was rear ended on the way to work but if she had left early enough to get everything prepared she s till would have made it there by 9. Once we get in we were taken to a small back room where the mani pedi area is set up. For an $80 mani pedi, I would expect professional chairs, bigger area, and an actual pedi bath not a disposable plastic tub to put your feet in.  The pedi was litterly just a foot soak, some wax or some kind of project rubbed on for a few minutes and nail trim/file/polish. Nothing fancy. The trim and file was excruciatingly painful. I'm not someone to say anything, but I feel like its something you should be aware of.   She cut all of the nails extremely short as well. When she asked if I wanted gel polish for mani I asked if I could do a French mani. Her response was "ive only done like 2 but I will try" . Later she told us she was new to doing nails. That's when I realized why they had a Groupon. Its because this person was still in training and not a professional. If I wanted a apprentice mani pedi discounted, I would have gone to lyles beauty school and let one of their students do it. But when you book a Groupon for a seemingly upscale Sebastopol salon, you expect professionalism and experience. I will say she was nice and did try. We were there for probably 2 hours, and it felt kind of awkward because it was just me and my friend conversing while she worked on our nails. The only time she chimmed in was to ask my friend if she worked at piner olivete charter school (which was really creepy because she didnt mention where she worked at all. Facebook stalker?).  Overall it was a decent mani pedi (as far as the aesthetics go) but there was no relaxing element to it, no massage, and definitely not something that should be considered "ultimate mani pedi". I will definitely be sticking to good looks spa in rohnert park, and Elements Spa when I really want to treat myself. Elements is a much better value for your money. Read Less

I purchased a Groupon for mani/pedi. Taylor was very sweet and friendly but the manicure was absolutely the worst! I called an expressed my disappointment and the owner was kind enough to offer a re-do. Since I live in Healdsburg, it is counter productive to drive all the way to sebastopol for what may or may not be a more professional mani/ pedi. I have had 100's of mani/pedi's and this had to be the worst!They use disposable plastic containers to soak your feet and the nail room is far from professional. Possibly the other manicurists are more qualified but Taylor, as sweet as she was, has no idea what she is doing. I don't believe she has any training. I got my hair done (a balayage and trim) by Kylie and she did a wonderful job!! Not only is she affordable, she's super sweet. She's a talented stylist who is passionate about hair and will only get better with time. I highly recommend her! I'm posting this before I even go to the salon, but I feel it's a valid testimonial on my experience thus far.I'm giving them 5 stars because the owner quickly took responsibility for a frustrating situation.I believe this is what a business owner should do, but you don't see it as much these days.I appreciated that she figured out how to best handle the situation when it was clear that I was heading toward being dis-satisfied (explained below). When I requested to rebook with her a couple weeks later,, she had stopped taking groupons.After a ton of back & forth, the owner said she'd take me if I couldn't get the full refund for the groupon-deal.I honestly wasn't sure I even wanted to go there anymore, because  I don't want to be "that difficult groupon-deal lady" to their whole staff. I'm not that person. I'm really not.The refund structure of Groupon is pretty inflexible, so I can't get my money back or even apply the amount that I paid to a different salon deal.(so really, in a way, this is also a negative review of Groupon's service & policies)I just wanted to have a general sense of confidence in whom I'd be going to to get my friggin' hair trimmed......There was a surge of drama, but the owner Nini took care of it. Let me start by saying, I have never been to Mane Event. (The facebook page wouldn't let me write anything unless I first gave it a star rating, so in fairness I have rated it a 3)...I am shopping for a new hairdresser. Been going to the same woman for longer than I can remember and decided it is time for a change. Was looking at Groupon to what deals were available in the area. I came across a groupon for Mane Event. Instead of arbitrarily choosing the closest and cheapest p...lace (Mane Event), I decided to do some homework. My decision to not take my business to Mane Event is based almost solely on the their response to negative reviews. Sure, you are always going to have unhappy customers, no matter how wonderful, friendly, and talented you are. But my advice to the owner/manager, whoever is responding to these unhappy customers, take the high road...You come across as rude,condescending and unprofessional. No one wants to be treated that way and no one wants to see you treating paying customers that way. I went & got my hair done by Kylie on Sunday April 30th. She did an AMAZING job. She did a balayage as well as a cut. I like to keep my hair fairly long & always seem to forget to maintenance trims in between. When I came  I was prepared to have to get a decent amount cut for it to look healthy. She trimmed all my dead ends &I could barely tell she took any off. My hair looked healthy, as well as keeping lengthy. The balayage was blended & gave me the perfect sun kissed look for summer. Conversation was great & genuine. Not that awkward small talk you some times have in salons. The location is easy to find, with accessible parking on the street front, or across the street in the Hopmonk parking area. With a cute coffee shop next door, to grab a coffee or tea or a quick bite to eat.  I will definitely be coming to Kylie from now on for my hair! Read Less

Happy with the cut I had by Tracy, but I left humiliated. I was "kindly" reprimanded for using Groupon - apparently I'm considered "an existing customer", which I take offense at. Per their Groupon posting - "Valid only for new clients. Not valid for existing salon clients." How long does "existing salon clients" last? I relayed to Tracy that I was a customer from either their 1st or 2nd location; they've been at their present location 6 years! (I used their mani/pedi Grou...pon once, and was told by esthetician she'd give the same price for follow-up appts.) Tracy told I should call ahead to each Groupon advertiser and find out what their policy is. I just had my hair done there last night by Kelsey and she's amazing! This is the second time I've gone to her, the first time for a haircut and the second time for color. I originally went in wanting to go all blonde since it's been a while and I wanted to do something fun. I typically dye my own hair but due to how much I've done to it I decided to go to someone I trusted to do it instead. My hair was currently black with some green since I'd covered up the red and blue that was previously there. I can tell you right now that blue and red are two of the hardest colors to lift! Kelsey did a fantastic job of making sure the bleach didn't sting too much and made sure I was conformable the whole time. After being there for a few hours Kelsey asked what I'd like to do if we weren't able to life all the red out of my hair that day and I told her that we could put some kind of color in it to even it out a bit and she suggested doing purple! I've done purple before so I was quick to say yes! It turned out great and she then styled it into a faux hawk for me!Kudos to Kelsey for being up to the task of messing with my crazy hair and for setting the right expectations with what we'd have to do to be able to get the red and blue out of my hair. I don't know what all the complaints are about, in regards to a certain stylist here, but I will say that I did not encounter anything close to a negative experience. My nails turned out natural and beautiful and my toes did as well. Zero flaws on the mani/pedi from beginning to end. I purchased a mani/pedi Groupon for my daughter at Main Event. She made a late afternoon appointment. She arrived late and was told there was only time for a pedicure. Ok. The place wasn't very clean. After the pedi, she was told it would be $30 although it, along with a mani was already paid for with the Groupon. This is a response to Caitlin M. And her post from 10/8. Wow! Guess you had a bad experience but to be honest, your pictures do quite show the horrible cut that you say you received. The 1st pic is the back/side of your perfectly styled hair, the 2nd is the front blown dry I styled hair and you with no make-up. Sorry but this is not a good example. Anyone's hair can look frizzy after a blow dry and before being styled. On another note, if you go to Elle Lui and your colorist doesn't cut hair, I am sure another stylist in that salon could have cut your hair. Why would you need to buy a groupon at another salon?I hope others can see too that your before and after pics are clearly not an accurate description. Why not style your hair and take a pic with the same view. This is a great salon by the way!! Read Less

RUN! TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE!!! I normally get my hair colored at Elle LUI in Santa Rosa and they do an amazing job there. I decided to use the Groupon at Mane Event for the hair cut and deep conditioning to save a little money since my colorist doesn't cut hair at Elle Lui. I had an appt. with Tracy at 2 who called and said she was running behind and asked if I could come in at 230 which I did. When I arrived a women was shoving a sandwich in her face and mumbled that she'd be right with me. I soon learned that Tracy wasn't able to do my hair anymore because she was still running behind and the sandwich eater Sue would be doing it. She started with the deep conditioning after having me put my purse on the floor in a puddle of water..kept me under the dryer way too long and fried my hair even more. Then when it came to the cut I said I wanted as little taken off as possible to make it a little healthier and cut some long swoopy bangs which I showed her example pics of and she proceeded to massacre my hair instead. She hacked off way more then anticipated, its uneven in the back when it's straight, and the bangs are blunt and choppy. It's even more damaged/frizzy then when I went in from the dryer she had me under. I feel completely embarrassed and ugly now. I tried contacting the owner Nini to to tell her about my situation and she is also unprofessional and now unreachable. This was a very emotionally draining/upsetting experience and I highly recommend NEVER going to this salon!!! Finding a new stylist is harder than picking a new OB/GYN - and my last experience at an upscale Santa Rosa salon left my hair shorter by 7 inches than what i asked for and more crooked than Lombard. After months of searching (over 6 to be exact) I decided to give Lexi a try at Mane Event. She did not disappoint. I was greeted immediately and did not have to wait more than 5 minutes before Lexi came to get me. I had brought in pictures of different color ideas I was circling around and Lexi was quick to discourage me from going lighter or over-processing my hair. Bonus for her that she put what was best for me above a higher cost color process. She really took the time to walk me through what choices she felt would work best with my hair. As far as cut, she did exactly as I asked for - a light trim of 1-1.5 inches to even out the wreck my previous stylist left me with. My color turned out gorgeous, rich and vibrant. The cut repaired the errors. I was surprised when Lexi mentioned she only graduated last April, which honestly made me a little nervous. But her conscience effort to actively listen and take the time to make sure every little cut was just perfect dissipated any concerns by the end. I was very happy with my experience and look forward to seeing Lexi again. For reference, I have longish hair with a simple straight, long layer cut. My hair is course and a bit wavy and even though my cut is pretty simple I have found that my waves make for a challenge in getting cuts right. Lexi managed my mane perfectly. Read Less

I've been going to Annie Hart for hair cut and color for a looooong time. She's really good and a true artiste when it comes to color. I can also speak to Megan's ability as a pedicurist. I visited Mane Event after purchasing a manicure / pedicure Groupon. Alana took care of me and she was amazing. I was brought into a separate room from the salon which was very comfortable and relaxing. Easily one of the best mani/pedis I've ever gotten! Older Update 4/2016: Salon has lost 1 star (luckily only 1) due to calling and being told that my appointment was at the wrong time, quite shocking, I knew when it was and was shocked but she insisted it was 1230, rather than 12! That just cost me my appointment that I have been trying to get forever!!!! AND may cost this salon more than one client, I have been so happy with the services here and with both Megan and Alana! Megan is GREAT and is not responsible for this at all! Maybe she should be the manager? I have my sons haircut by Alana and trying to get my local family and friends to switch to a local spot to help our community and also because I have had such great experiences here. Not anymore. :-( Boo! I am really trying to not allow this one REALLY messed up experience ruin this place for me, but this literally could not be worse timing!!!! This is completely unacceptable! The woman who answered the phone gave me false information and I find this unprofessional. Maybe they should hire someone who is efficient and will not lose business from loyal clients and lose any possible word of mouth. Sorry, but I am pissed and this is exactly how I feel atm! Megan is amazing! Don't get that wrong and maybe if you come here, try talking to her only or Alana...and trust yourself and the appointment you made, if you have a question about it, MAKE SURE to talk to the person your appointment is with. Both Megan and Alana are young, talented, vibrant, excellent at their professions and I know Megan is able to read correct appointment times or make sure she isn't getting 2 different people mixed up. Excellent multitaskers! This is an update from today's April, 2016 experience. And if Megan wasn't so flipping awesome, I would be taking this straight down to 1 star. Time is money! I would never intentionally waste someone's time, like I have just done to Megan. I feel bad, but this is not my fault. I am grateful that she understands and has been so apologetic for something she did not do. That's how professionals act. Way to go Megan! Thank you for being you! I will reschedule my manicure and come back. And hopefully in the future this won't happen again. Thank you again for even apologizing for something that was not at all your mistake! I hope that person gets it together or realizes she may be past her prime and needs to focus on her grand baby, rather than messing someone's day, actually not just this part of my day and Megan's day, but also my vacation! Ugh! This mani/pedi is $85 does that sound like a price you would pay for this type of treatment? I expect the very best for prices like that. I can go down the street and get a mani/pedi down the street for half the price and they have those massage chairs, etc. the set up is a little different here. No massage chairs, a very comfy chair and a portable spa pedicure for your feet. So, don't get your hopes up for the massage chair. Experience from 2015:5 stars for Megan (mani-pedi) she was delightful to talk to, it was a very relaxing experience and she was incredibly thorough with her expert pedicure! 4 stars for my beautiful manicure, but definitely a 5 star experience. :) I think she may have been pressed for time and I was a groupon customer. I was made aware that they did not have the chairs that most salons do, no worries...it was heaven without a specific chair. Their chairs were very comfy and I could stretch out, Basically, it was divine and comfortable. :-) I was greeted immediately with a smile and they let me know Megan would be right with me, I was early. Megan came and brought me in almost 5 minutes early! I was very pleased and was not expecting to be taken care of so promptly! Extra stars. ;) I wish I could give extra stars for these types of establishments. Megan is personable, charming, fun to talk to and really puts you at ease, same with the lovely woman working next to her. I was so relaxed and pleased, I will definitely be coming back! Thank you for such a lovely mani/pedi and experience! I left fully relaxed and smiling ear to ear. I purchased a group on to have a hair cut, color and highlights my first hair color ever I was very excited I called in to make my appointment and as soon as I got on the phone I had a bad feeling she was so rude not friendly at all went anyway although very nervous I went she told me she would have to charge me extra for highlights mind you the coupon said highlights included I agreed and continued. Right off the bat she started to almost complain over the fact thAt in her o...pinion I have TOO much hair made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable I had a picture of a hair color and cut I would like I showed this to her many times. When she was highlighting my hair she bleached my hair left in too long burned my scalp finally took it off and shampooed it left it wet told me she didn't have time to style it bc her next customer was already there could not take my card had to go to atm for cash I didn't like what it looked like already at all I asked once agin will it look like the picture ( picture of Kim.k) her response was "well your not going to look like Kim kardashian.) excuse me! How rude I replied with im not trying to look like her I just want to replicate her hair style and color. She assured me it would look like the picture when I styled it I was now offended and mad. Went home styled it and come to find out there's spoting through out my highlights completely opposite from what I wanted and only did half my hair, called back to let her know I was upset with her work never called me back!
