Tried Natural #1 powder polish at Yvonne's nails across and just up State street from the Gelsons shopping center just next to Guru Pizza. My nails are GORGEOUS! They're supposedly much easier to remove than gels so also better for your nails, they feel so light and strong at the same time, and Ive received tons of compliments! Yes they are spendy...but I love them and I needed a pick me up, so there. My mani/pedi that I received was the best. Comfy chairs, they'll put the plastic on the bowl for peace of mind and they speak excellent English! The shop is very clean, I was there late one night and she was instructing someone how to clean the chairs, I know you work so hard and it's been so hot but the shop doesn't get direct sun, so it's pretty nice in there even with the hot days. I have been a past customer when Yvonne was at other locations so I was excited when I saw she had her own salon. (She really is very good). I had girlfriends come into town so I wanted to treat them. I made an appointment and when I showed up, she asked me to come back in 1.5 hrs. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid by making an appt. Luckily the salon across the street took us all as walk ins. Needless to say, I was disappointed in the customer service.Since I didn't actually receive a service, I agree that it isn't fair to give stars hence affecting this company's over all rating. I came in for a manicure. The polish was uneven and I had to tell the lady to clean my cuticles more than twice and they still came out looking bad. She also cut my nails uneven. I told her I didn't like my nails rounded two times and she didn't listen. If you look at the photo, you can see she rounded out one side of my middle and ring fingers and left the other side square leaving them uneven and weird looking. I even tipped her 15% before she did my nails and it came out this crappy. I went home and had to cut my nails myself and just took the polish off because it looked so bad. Huge waste of money. I am livid! I don't know who to contact but I will find out. I got a set of acrylic nails and a Polish. It was okay. Nothing fantastic. When I was paying I gave her a cash tip and there was something going on with the credit card machine and I can understand their English. Finally I figured they were saying cash or credit. Yvonne and her employee looked at each other with a really odd look. Mind you I had asked over the phone how much my nails would be. And then when I got there I asked how much they would be. Yvonne said $25 for and $35 for gel. I had the acrylic tips but I also got my eyebrows waxed which was $14. When I got my statement from the bank the charge from her was $74. I'm not sure how 25 + 14 equals 74. Even if she charged me $10 for special polish it still doesn't add up. Even if she charged me for the gel nails it still doesn't add up. And to top that off when she waxed my eyebrows she didn't trim them at all she just did a crappy wax job. And I don't know what she put on me but immediately my face got hives and swelled up really bad. And I was the speaker at a meeting. I've had my eyebrows waxed for years and never ever had that happen. Also I've never had anyone not use the scissors. She was really cold personality-wise also. I very rarely get my nails done (I'm talkin' once every two years rare) so I wanted to make sure I found a highly recommended, decently affordable spot to go for this special occasion, and I'm overjoyed I found Yvonne's.  This salon came with a 5 star recommendation from other Yelpers who's opinions I really trust, has a great Axxess deal for $10 off your first mani/pedi or Shellac Gel mani/pedi, AND has a Yelp check in offer for $5 off the next time you come. For price, there really wasn't anything else in Santa Barbara this awesomely affordable. I called in and made an appointment for 2 a day in advance and had no trouble getting the time I needed. On the day of the appointment, my friend who was joining me in the experience got stuck at work and we had to call to extend our appointment by 30 minutes which they kindly said "No Problem" to. Once getting there, I picked out my two polishes from the multi-color option wall and waited about five minutes until she was ready for me (not bad at all). However, I was not a huge fan of the color options and would have liked to see more ocean style colors, such as blues and greens. I settled with a bright mint for my hands and a light nude tan for my toes. Once seated I played with the totally rad massage chair features, all of which worked well and felt awesome on my "tech-neck." Probably the best part about getting this mani/pedi was the massage chairs. That may be because I have such ticklish feat and shaky hands so the pedicure caused me to be slightly jumpy and giggly, which made my hands jolt a little more and the manicure to be a little harder for the gal. I'd probably recommend them not doing both hands and feet at the time (if time permits) as my hands did not turn out as well as I would have liked and after just one day the paint is slightly chipped at the top and a little jagged looking near the cuticle areas. My toes, on the other hand, I am very satisfied with and the girl who did them was sweet and worked surprisingly quick. I ended up only having to pay $30 plus tip for both hands and feet, plus the awesome massage chair, and a nice scrub and lotion service for my hands and lower legs/feet. I will definitely be back next time I have a special occasion to be pampered again for as such. Came here this weekend for a regular pedicure; it was nothing special and I felt it was definitely not worth $30(!).  The pedicure felt rushed and there was not really much to it.  I mean, it wasn't horrible but for $30 I expect more.  It felt like the person doing my nails was tired and just going through the motions, not spending much time on it.  I would probably be happier with this pedicure if it were cheaper (aka more in line with the level of service).I did not have Yvonne and I see that she has good reviews so maybe I will go back and try her out but as for my first experience here it was lackluster.  I don't know why it is so hard to find a good nail salon in town but I have not had any luck yet!  I miss my $25 mani-pedis in SF :( Read Less

I've had my nails (gel) done by Yvonne and her staff and they have lasted the longest in my experience. They are always completely covered other places don't go over the whole nail with the first coat and it shows and looks ugly. They have quality products which is why they always last longer, about 3 weeks each time for me. The salon is very well kept and there is not full of clutter and dust like others. Great experience! I love Yvonne!! She always pays the closest attention to detail and I have never been disappointed with my manicure after leaving, and I'm picky! She's super friendly too. I am completely sold on the dipping gel manicures she's doing, so much healthier for your nails and my real nail actually grows underneath! Last time I had her use tips before the dipping gel so that I could have some length for my French mani (I had just finished three weeks of moving and my nails were thrashed). She did the clear dipping gel with sheer pink and white gel polish for the French effect (normally the mani is finished after the dipping gel).... So the first time I came here I had gotten a very cute Disney design. This was about 2 years ago. I came back again a couple of weeks ago and it was NOT the same! The woman told me she couldn't do any designs, only color. I was disappointed but did it anyway. She was REALLY ROUGH with my fingers and cut me twice with the nail file. I asked her to please be careful and this seemed to annoy her. I felt bad and didn't say anything else to her. After she was finished my nails loo...ked nice but I REALLY wanted a design. I just assumed I wouldn't go back to her. Well it's been a couple of weeks so it was time to go back. I got a completely different woman this time but same response to a design. "No design. I am a very happy regular customer at Yvonne's! I have received both manicures and pedicures (gel and powder) from Yvonne and her staff. First, know that Yvonne takes a lot of pride in her work. Her salon is very clean, there are plenty of manicure stations, and she also has massage pedicure chairs. She gives you all the attention you need during your visit, and she puts an extreme attention to detail in her work. I am currently going into week 3 of my gel/powder manicure and my nails still look amazing. Review for acrylics. First time here and agreat experience. Yvonne was very responsive and fit us in for a same day appointment. She introduced us to powder gel color, which looks great and is super fun. Also, it seems to be easier on the nail, there's an extra cost for the powder color. Nails are thin and the shape is on point. No cuts at all and Yvonne is very patient and meticulous. Massage chairs feel amazing. I was hesitant to give this place 4 stars but Kim did such a great job on my manicure she really changed my mind! I called to make an appointment and was asked what time? I said how about 3? Then the lady on the phone said how about 3:45. I was ok with that but why even ask me for a time when I can't be seen at the time I requested. I showed up about 10 minutes before my appointment and 3:45 came and went. By the time I was seen 20 minutes had passed. So don't be surprised if there's a wait time even if you have an appointment. But then again does a nail salon really exist where they are timely?This place is very clean and the spa chairs for pedicures look so comfy and cushiony. I will definitely be back for a pedicure. I only hope they have more staff on deck next time I go. Seemed like they took on way more customers than they could handle. Going back to Kim.
