I had my nails done by Minh and it is the worst gel manicure I've ever had. Firstly, they couldn't remove all of my previous gel so they left it on my nails after soaking my hands in a bowl of acetone multiple times. You can actually see my previous gel under my new manicure. Secondly, Minh filed my nails unevenly and when applying the gel did not go all the way down my nail. In fact, he was practically skipping the entire bottom half. After I asked him to go all the way down, I did not get a response. Although he did begin to color my FULL nail, you can see a noticeable difference because the first coat had already set. Minh also was brushing my nails as if he was taking something off not applying a color. I left with so much gel on my skin that I had to go to another salon and get my nails properly filed. I don't know if he was in a mood or what, but the only time I got a smile or emotion from him was when he was I was giving him money. Disturbing. I now have uneven nails, uneven coats, and and will never be returning. By far the worst $40 I've ever spent. Read Less

I have been coming to Bee at Minh Ly for pedicures for at least eight years. She does a meticulous job. Her foot massages are super! She never rushes. The salon is very pleasant because they play beautiful music. I have never been there when the tv is playing, it's always music and the quiet laughter and friendship among the staff. They take so much time with pedicures and manicures and very long massages when you get a pedicure. They also don't try and up-sell, most of the pedicure service comes with the salt scrubs etc included. Reasonable price for the quality of service. Read Less

I had the worst manicure/ pedicure here - only because the young technician who is obviously a newbie and can't even understand "Can you clean my nails better" just rushed her work and wasn't even consistent doing my left vs right foot. Minh, the owner noticed my dissatisfaction and gave me BI (pronounced Bee) who was downright RUDE and would speak Vietnamese against me (not knowing I was an expat in Ho Chi Minh Vietnam - few years back). She also RUDELY required payment before finishing my nails and after swiping my card RUDELY threw it at my table and said "No money!" claiming my card was declined. (I used the same card in Ralph's and Lassens nearby and it was good!)Minh took over again and polished my nails. He was apologetic but friends say this should be reported! There's another senior lady who was obviously better at doing nails and at customer service as the the other client said she's been going to her for 20 years! I would know.. I owned my own nail salon for 5 years and I feel the difference in treatment as I was Asian. I guess I was soooooo unlucky being assigned to the young technician who was not good at all and a VERY RUDE BI!! I must say I wasted my money getting my nail service there today! Read Less

This place has legit vibes. And that's important to me when I'm chilling at a nail salon for a few. I'm Vietnatemse, but to most Vietnamese folks I don't look like it and they assume I'm not. I guess that's why when I go into a Vietnamese owned nail shop I can tell the real from fake real quick. Don't get me wrong, many are fine and comfortable. Other places not so much. Sadly, all the jokes and stereotypes about nail salons ring all too true at times. I am so happy that is not the case here! The ladies are genuinely sweet, funny, caring and take care of each other as colleagues/friends. Thats how it should be. Plus they always do a top notch job at fair prices. Never have I felt rushed, pressure to buy or get something more, and never have I heard them gossip. Usually I just get my toes painted vs. full pedi and that's not a problem. This is my go to place for acrylics! They take the time and their impeccable attention to detail, you cannot get anywhere else. The customer service and their work is on point. Amy took the time to listen to what I wanted and how I wanted my nails to be shaped. I told her I wanted them on the shorter side since I type a lot and took the time to shape them to the rounded square shape that I had envisioned. I felt comfortable at this nail salon, unlike other places they attempt to rip you off and do not take pride in their work. Here they treat you well, make conversation with you and ensure that you are satisfied with the end result. The prices are reasonable and no hidden cost, mark ups and the hassle of forcing up sales on you like other places in the area. I am definitely making this my "go to" nail place. Read Less

While the staff was slightly chatty and very easy to get along with I honestly didn't appreciate the lady nearly chopping my finger off while trimming cuticles... A customer ( prior to the mutilation of my finger ) had jokingly told me "She will take a finger and still not give you a discount, you have to lose at least the whole hand!" I didn't know she was serious. She knicked me a few times but my pointer finger is definitely the worst of it. She didn't even stop with applying lotions and oils while I was bleeding, just smeared it around hoping it would stop I guess? So that was kind of gross. My other complaints would be that they didn't really scrub my feet for the pedicure, it was more like 'here I touched your feet now into the leg rub.' How they filed and painted my nails was very subpar, there were a lot of missed spots, the whole nail wasn't even painted.. It looked like I walked out with a 5 day old nail job..and my nail still had dinks in it that hadn't been filed down properly. It's been a day and a half later and it looks like I sliced myself with a potato peeler lol.. While I kind of liked the people I definitely will not be going back there, I do enjoy the idea of having all 10 fingers for the remained of my life. Read Less

This is by far the best place in Santa Barbara to get your acrylic nails done! Ask for the owner, he is the master of shaping nails, you can show him a picture of what you want or just explain it and he gets it perfect every time. I have really weirdly shaped fingers due to breaking them in sports when I was younger, and he shaped my nails perfectly which is always a challenge. I had a TERRIBLE experience here.  For lack of a better word my acrylic fill looked like shit.  My fingers were stuck to the acrylic on the back side and also has goupy acrylic all over my nail bed.  I asked for black - and he put on some weird dark blue.  No friendly conversation. Did not file/driemel under my nails.  No massage and he seemed very annoyed I asked him to fix it (I was getting a pedi after and could not believe how awful they looked).  Super sloppy. My sister and I went looking for a good salon for acrylics while we were back home, and came across Minh Lys. We had a great experience start to finish! Minh did perfect acrylics for my sister and tailored them to exactly what she wanted. She got dark red short rounded acrylics.The woman who did my gels (whose name I cannot remember) was so sweet. We talked about her daughter at UCSC, fiesta, Thai desert recipes, and she was generally nice and relaxing to chat with. She paid extra attention to cleaning up my dry cuticles and shaping my scraggly nails into uniform shape.While we were there, their fruit vendor came by and delivered some beautiful mangoes which was definitely one of the more interesting experiences I've had in a nail salon, but we actually ended up buying a 7$ flat of delicious mangoes! My friends constantly recommended this place so I finally gave it a try. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was empty so they were able to help me right away. My experience from start to finish was fantastic. For the first time in my life, none of the staff spoke in a different language in front of me, usually leaving me insecure and uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the beauty of another language as much as the next guy, but not when I get the feeling that it's being used to criticize my cuticles. In fact, every person working there was making conversation with and focusing on their customer! Unheard of, I know, so kudos to you Mihnly. I always only get gel ($21 including removal of old gel!) and they did one of the better jobs I've seen. Mihn even walked around to make sure everyone was happy with the final finish and made corrections as requested. I only took off one star because they did not have a very wide gel color selection. This place was recommended by a friend. I went Saturday for a pedicure and it was great. I felt relaxed and she really took her time on them. I came back today (Wednesday) to have my acrylics soaked off and a new set applied. First off, I was kinda dreading the removal... but Minh (the owner) did this magical heated acetone trick that took them off with NO PAIN and it was so fast. He then did a completely new set in the EXACT style I wanted, checking with me throughout the entire process. End result? I have super thin natural looking almond shaped nails that are the best I have had in ages. Not to mention, Minh and all the ladies in the shop are very sweet and kind. I want to see start off by saying the staff was very friendly and gave me some awesome places I could visit while I'm here, and they make sure you are comfortable and don't make you feel rushed. Enjoyed my experience at Minhly's! While $27 for a pedicure did seem a bit steep, I was happy with the service. I tend to have bad experiences with the poking and prodding of my nails, but Francis did a great job and only went a little too far on one of my nail cuticles. Probably my favorite place to get my nails done ever! Minh is such a nice owner who really makes sure his customers are absolutely satisfied with their service! I had the privilege of getting my nails personally done by him, and he was really a perfectionist! I've never had anyone take such a long time shaping and filing my nails (acrylics), but it was definitely worth it at the end because I was really pleased with how my nails turned out for only $30! I don't think acrylic nails can get much better unless you want those crazy nails with tons of decorations glued on them. I say, "No thanks, kinda tacky IMO."I ventured out to Minhly's during my lunch break to get stiletto acrylics. I wanted to get them for fun and I used Yelp to inspect all the nail studios in town to see which one does the best acrylics. I was not disappointed. My nails looked pretty realistic, and now that I've had them done I can see they looked great compared to a lot of others I've noticed.I made a reservation the same morning and showed up at 3 pm because that was the soonest available. While I was there a few regulars dropped in; I could tell from the conversations and familiarity. Minh himself did my nails and the entire session took an hour and fifteen minutes or so. He was very nice. I would definitely return here to get my nails done. I pretty much always do my nails pale pink, and not many options were available though, so it could be a good idea to bring in your own polish if you have a particular color preference. I paid $30. I only haven't returned because I'm on the computer basically all day so the nails make it difficult. Read Less

Do NOT go here. I had a gel mani and the guy who was helping me made me soak my fingers in acetone to take the gel polish off, instead of wrapping the nails individually. I was getting another gel mani, and as i was waiting for my nails to dry i saw the most disgusting thing ever. The man who had helped was pouring the USED acetone back into the bottle and was picking out the polish. I was speech less, he looks at me and says that it is to expensive to throw out. I like the quality of their work and the atmosphere at this nail salon. They keep all the tubs and tools very clean and disinfected. The prices are great! Everybody has a sense of humor and they do a wonderful job. I get lots of compliments especially when they add nail designs!
