I've been coming to Kim Nails for several years and I absolutely love it. It's the best place to have your nails done in Santa Barbara! Kim and her staff are always accommodating when making appointments and very friendly. My favorite one there is Andy, he is very professional and does an amazing job with my acrylic nails. I love this salon and meet my daughter there every few weeks for an acrylic fill. Andy is precise, skilled, and friendly. Everyone at the salon takes a personal interest in the customers, from little girls getting nail polish to regulars like me to people requesting unusual or artistic designs. Sigh, with few choices nearby, I still would not recommend this place.  One of the worst manis ever - rough, uneven, cut into the skin under my nail, etc.   three times I asked for clear polish.  First time Andy put on the hard sell for something that "looked very natural, better than clear" - turns out it was for a gel at double the price.  No thank you to those chemicals. Then , he suggested buffing my nails instead; I said sure but then found out they charged extra for that!  And it was probably the most uneven buff I've ever had.  Even though it saves them from having to put on multiple coats of polish.  What a rip off. COSTUMER SERVICES SUCKS FOR THE PRICE!! You dnt wanna walk around with fugly nails!!I was in town visiting family and needed some relax time. Decided to stay near due to me not knowing the area. Worst idea ever!!!Walked in and the owner/manager was getting her nails done. She asked us what we needed and assigned someone to us. I got Alan. He started doing his thing and advised me to "please let him know how I wanted it" "whatever I wanted." I broke off my pinky and went in for a fill. He continued to work on my nails and I continued to look for a cool design on my phone. He was rough at times and he would become upset when I didn't put my hands how he wanted them. He was cleaning his brush and speaking to the nail tech next to him. I decided to get my cousins opinion and while he was talking to the nail tech and cleaning his desk, I got up to walk to my cousin sitting a couple feet from me. He stopped me and told me not to go and to sit down that it can wait and I'll soon be moved to the chair for my pedi. I stayed quiet and sat back down. My 10 year old sibling was getting her nails painted and choosing a color and needed my help. Alan noticed that she has the colors and snatched the colors away from her hand stating that the colors I was looking at were way better. I looked at him, very upset and told him that those were not for me, my sibling was getting her nails painted and she was picking a color. He just stayed quiet and went on. Alan moved me to the pedi chair and asked what color I had picked. I picked 114 and 103 along with white. I showed him the picture and he said fine, whatever I wanted. He began to put the gel polish. I had the massage on (that he turned on himself). And he became mad again and kept telling me not to move and to separate my fingers. Like really? LolI've never met such a picky, rough and whinny nail tech. NOW TO THE DESIGN: Alan was great in helping me find the glitter the design on my phone had. He started to do the design while I kept speaking to my siblings. I decided to take a look at my design. It was NOTHING compared to the picture. I asked him why the polish looks to purple and he stated that he changed my color bc he didn't like how the other polish looked on me. LAST TIME I CHECKED, a nail tech is supposed to let u knw if ur color is going to change. At least let me knw that way I chose another color. I told Alan I didn't like it. It looked like my 2 year old niece drew on it with glitter. SUPER SLOPPY WORK. I advised him to please take it off and he stated that it's too late and It will take a long time. I'm the costumer paying for my services and he doesn't wanna keep me as a happy costumer. I told him it looks nothing like the picture and he stated I will have to come back tomorrow. I told Alan I was in town and will be leaving the next day, he stayed quiet. 1 thing that got me more upset was the fact that the manager/owner did not try to come and deescalate the issue. That's not good AT ALL!!! All Alan was doing is talking crap in their language. He got so upset that he decided to grab his stuff and leave. Before he left, he wiped the top coat off my ugly nails and stated he will not charge me for a design. My total was 33 dollars for a fill and for them to add a nail that broke off. The worst manicure I've ever had. I came in with long nails and wanted them cut/filed down a little so they were shorter but not too short. I got a gel manicure, and after she painted my nails she started to file them which I've never heard of (I get my nails done a lot and have never had them filed after they were painted). She filed them so short that they were painful for days afterwards and completely chipped. I definitely will not be going here again which is a bummer because the location is so convenient. I tried to get a service there and the lady was super rude she said she had an appointment in 20 min I said okay I asked if she doesn't come in can I get serviced she looked at me annoyed ... so I just said I'll be back in 15 got a coffee came back sat down waited 30 min at most& no one was there I said excuse me miss can I get my nails done she said appointment late ..i told her yes I understand that waited another 10 like a damn idiot and walked out said you guys shouldn't be in business there's 3 of you doing nothing but eating and staring at me like I'm the damn devil. I've gone into Kim's 3 times before and the first time was the best because the whole salon was packed but I got helped very quickly and was sat almost immediately. I was sat with James who did an amazing job with stiletto shaped nails and a pink chrome color. The second time I went in was a little different, James was unfortunately not there and so I got a woman who's name I'm not sure of. Although she was nice she didn't do a great job at filling my nails, they were very unevenly shaped. She then had me go to an older woman for my paint job and while she was very nice as well... not great and painting nails. Quite messy. And I accidentally messed one up pretty badly because she had me dry my nails in one small fan, but she just painted over it and it left a prominent bump underneath. At this point I was too tired to say anything so I just let it go. This third time (today) I went in and got James again He corrected the shapes of the nails and took a lot of time to perfect them, I appreciate his attention to detail very much. And even though the salon was quite empty (me and one other lady were the only customers) we all had some good laughs. Would recommend asking for James if you go in. This place is great :) Read Less

But then I came in to get a pedicure and the lady tried to charge me 10 dollars just for french tip and I could hardly understand her and then said since she scrubbed my shins or something that it was another 10$. Horrible! I was visiting SB from Hawaii last month and needed my nails done for a photoshoot. I went here and was deciding on which color nails I wanted. I asked the lady what color she thought was nicer (matte black or regular black). She rudely told me I had to make a decision fast because she doesn't have time. I was wondering why she was in such a hurry. While finishing up my nails, a customer walks in and she started to hurry even more. No wonder why she was being so rude and rushed. She could have told me she couldn't do my nails. I could have gone elsewhere. I left with nails that didn't fit my nails right, a crooked thumb nail, and the matte black didn't even dry matte. I spent $55 on a horrible manicure. I didn't have time to fix it before my photo shoot. Came in yesterday for a fill & nail repair. James did my nails and he was really nice, plus he did a great job. He shortened my nails quite a bit for me but maintained the slender coffin shape I like, and even offered a discount on gel polish application. I've been in once before a couple years ago and also recall having a great experience with a fill and brow wax. Overall I've decided this is my new go to nail salon & spa when I'm in SB. Came in mid morning on A Thursday since I had some free time on my hands after a meeting next door. Giving them two stars because the atmosphere was very pleasant and calm and everyone was really nice. In terms of services though, I got a basic manicure ($14) and the work was shoddy. My nails didn't need much work but the woman who filed them let them uneven. There are a bunch of air pockets in the color and you can tell that the color was not applied in straight lines. They don't have many colors to choose from if you're not looking for a shade of red. I won't be returning. Read Less

YOU MAKE A BIRTHDAY CREW HAPPY!!  I have been to Tina's nails many times. I've had acrylic nails from James and loved them so much! He's amazing. Every person there is so talented and so kind! I've had mani's and pedi's and always leave with beautiful nails and a full grin on my face. Today my daughter and her friends were spoiled at Tina's nails and you can't imagine how happy they were ! They were flying! The manicure team didn't have to be so incredible to these young girls but they snuck them in in between all the clients and treated them so special! Kim's nails are the best place in town to get a quick mani/pedi that is not so overpriced. I've been to many places in town and always come back to Kim's. Everyone is enjoyable and not too nosy like some places. It's best to make an appointment. Nonetheless they'll do their best if I just show-up. A solid manicure, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. My manicurist was very nice and did an average job. The place was comfortable, but felt slightly dirty. Their polish selection was decent. I'm an Essie girl and was disappointed they didn't stock any.  The price was fair for Santa Barbara- $14 for regular manicure. If you're nearby and need a mani this is an okay choice, but certainly not the best manicure experience you'll have. Read Less

Now I know why I stopped going to get pedicures at Kims salon, they charged me $22 for my two year olds pedicure because they said they massaged her! I always have issues with them! Either they don't see us until 30min after our appointment time or they charge an outrageous amount to put some polish on a toddler. (it is normal $8 for a kid to get their toes painted but they said I never explained that I didn't want her to have a massage!)Read Less
