Out of towner looking for a place to get my hair and makeup done for a wedding. I would leave a 1 star for makeup and 4 stars for hair. Staff was friendly, but the makeup lady rushed through and wasn't very consultative. The hour appointment took 15 minutes. Not great when the service is $70+ When they washed my hair for the blow out it became extremely obvious how much bronzer I was wearing. Would not go back.Read Less

I got married in a small intimate wedding in March 2017. I chose Carlyle Salon for myself and my bridesmaids hair and makeup in the salon. Everything went perfectly and there were no problems at all! I did not do a trial run for hair and makeup so I was nervous, but they did a wonderful job! We just showed pictures of hairstyles we wanted and they were able to recreate them! The salon is so beautiful inside, and it was a really nice place to get ready for the wedding. The wedding coordinator Tracy, who I emailed back and forth with was so nice, and I really liked how they sent me a day of the wedding hair and makeup timeline. That was a nice touch. I'm pretty sure Rose did my makeup, and she was so so nice. She was so friendly and talked to me the entire time, it was really nice. My mother and I had our hair styled and pinned for a wedding with Carlyle. My mother had the utmost blast with her hairstylist - chatting away the whole time. And we both came out of it with impressive hair that stood up to a day of outdoor activities. While they might not be crazy cheap, I think they're def worth it! Read Less

Mixed review. I love, love, love my makeup. The makeup artist was funny and sweet and really catered to what I wanted and checked with me throughout the experience to make sure I liked it. She also offered me something to drink two separate times. As for my blowout, it was just ok. The girl was rushed and when I asked for loose bohemian curls she straightened my hair and curled the ends under. I had to ask her to curl it more and then she finally used a curling iron to make curls instead of just a round brush. Even when it was done my hair wasn't full of volume like I asked. It looked nice, but not special for my engagement photos. It looked more like everyday hair. She had a client waiting and it seemed that was her priority instead of me. I would not use her again. My bridal party went to Carlyle Salon for our hair and makeup on the big day and we had such a wonderful experience. Their wedding coordinator was prompt and booking was very easy. The Salon is stylish and inviting and all the the stylists and makeup artists listened to what we wanted. Each of us had a different style and each of us ended up looking and feeling unique and beautiful. In particular, I do not wear very much make up and I was a little worried about looking too made up, but and I was so impressed by how natural and comfortable I felt! What can I say that people don't know already ? Well. I love being greeted at the door by the ladies. As soon as I walked in was greeted, asked if I wanted anything to drink, of course champagne was the way to go here. The salon is clean and their decor is chic. My stylist; Ellie. She's now done my hair about 4 times. She is the sweetest thing ever! I showed her a picture of what I wanted then takes her time to consult with me about it. She feels my hair and tells me her professional opinion. I always leave it up to her because hey, she's the professional right?! I loved her gentle touch during the shampoo and the whole time through my hair cut she would get my opinion and styled my hair in record time. I have really thick hair and it's a hassle to get my hair styled. She's done an amazing job. This last time I wanted a super drastic change from my single layer thick long hair and I wanted bangs and a short cut.  I was really hesitant at first due to how drastic it would be and the nature of my job and also, I didn't want to look like Dora the explorer. Ellie was amazing! I love my hair. She also did some balayage on my hair and I couldn't be happier. Ellie is definitely up to date with the most current cuts, colors and styling. I have been to many many salons around the world. I chose Carlyle salon & style bar because of the talented stylists & chic atmosphere. With all the options for blow outs & braiding I love to co e in here & always leave Looking & feeling better then when I came in. I LOVE Kaleigh Nickerson for cuts & color services. If you want the beautiful beachy hair that is in style right now Kaleigh is the queen of the ombré beach hair!!!! I also love Carolina's braids!!!  Oh and the product selection it top of the line!!! I was very disappointed with the work that was done at the salon. I needed a touch-up on my balayage. I recently moved back into town and was apprehensive about trying a new stylist since my last stylist was amazing! I made an appointment here based on the reviews and in hopes of quality work.I came to the salon and the customer service was great! I had a mimosa and my stylist and I had a good conversation. When the work was done, my hair seemed to look good (could've been the lighting)! It wasn't until I went home that I really examined my hair. My mom said it looked red in the middle! Aka brassy! The times that I've had my hair colored this has not happened so I know it wasn't my hair. There was a particular part where it just looked like it was dipped in bleach. No blending of any sort. I called the next day to tell them my issues and they scheduled me the following day for a revision. I came in and I showed my stylist the dip dyed part and she asked what was wrong with it. This I could not understand!? It visibly does not look good...I also said I didn't like the transition color because it looked red. My stylist said no problem and that they would fix it. It didn't seem hard so I was not worried. This was when my stylist left and said another stylist was going to help me. Two other girls besides my stylist were trying to fix my hair. Why? So they re-bleached the dip dyed part and re-toned my hair. Afterwards, one of the stylist blew dry a small section of my hair to see if I liked it. The changes were not visible with just that section, so she said if it still looked red to come back. And I left with wet hair. They seemed to not care if I was content with the work or not. When it dried I was not impressed. At this point I was very sad because they were not able to correct it and their quality was horrible. How do you mess up twice? I spent A LOT of money for work that wasn't worthy and will have to spend more to correct it! I unfortunately ended up having a bad experience here. First there was a confusion with the time of the appointment (which to be fair, I changed a few times) however my final confirmation said 2pm - theirs said 3:30. I had a rehearsal dinner that I needed to be at so they were able to take me at 2:45 and told me I'd be out by 5:45.I got highlights and a blowout. The highlights are very nice however I was charged an extra $35 for Toner (this charge I was aware of)  and an extra $35 for Olaplex? I don't know what that is and was never asked if I wanted it. I have been highlighting my hair for almost 15 years and have never seen this charge. I feel this was an unethical charge as you should be told before something will be added to your bill. Then I got a blowout - I asked for loose curls. The curls were okay but the ends were straight and limp, which is the sign of a lower level blowout to me. But it was already 5:50 and I had to run.The next morning (day of wedding) I called and asked if I could come back for a 5 minute touchup. The blowout fell out and the ends looked even worse. They only had two times - one at 11:30 and one at 3:15. I chose the 3:15, drove back to the Salon, sat in the chair and was told they would have to charge me again since it was the next day and that's their policy. I said I only wanted a quick touch up but no.  If they were going to charge me, they should have told me so on the phone.So essentially I paid $215 for highlights, a bogus olaplex charge, a bad blowout and wasted a lot of extra time.I don't recommend. I've been in Santa Barbara for 4 years now, and tried a few salons but none met the excellent standard I wished for until I tried Carlyle Salon, specifically, Katrina.  She's a very good listener, and understood exactly what I was asking for.  The first time I came home with the new layers, even my husband noticed, in a good way.  The second time, we refined it a little more to my liking, and now it's the perfect cut that I've been wanting forever!  From the start, customer service was superb.  Follow up reminders with text and last minute phone call always efficient.  My hair feels much nicer, and looks healthier.  The perfect layering gives my hair a fuller look and feel.  What a great opposite experience from Darin Jon Studio in every way.  The rate is also very reasonable so leaving a good tip didn't make me feel ripped off.  Love it! Came here for an last minute blow out near State Street and was pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. I am so glad I got an appt at Carlyle by default on a busy weeekend since it was the only salon who could take me that afternoon.My stylish was Ellie who was amazing! So friendly, understood the look I was going for, talked out what she would do and provided the right amount of conversation while I was being pampered. She even noticed I washed my hair that morning and asked if I still wanted a blow out or just a styling (no hair wash) to save some money. Since my hair was clean I said why not. After moving to Santa Barbara I struggled to find the right salon, but decided to try Carlyle after viewing styles that resonated with me on their Instagram feed. From the second I walked into Carlyle I felt completely pampered. The look and feel of the space is so beautiful with their elegant decor and I was immediately welcomed by their friendly staff & offered a coffee or mimosa :) Ashton did an incredible job on my cut & color. She listened to what I wanted and discussed exactly what she would do to achieve that look. I received the most amazing scalp massage, the color she did was impeccably-blended and the cut was just what I wanted, the perfect trim without sacrificing length. Kaleigh was wonderful. I am very particular about my hair and usually know exactly what kind of treatments I want done to get the expected results. She listened attentively to what I wanted and gave her suggestions. She sounded so confident that I opened up to it and absolutely love the result! When she was applying the glaze on my roots only, I told her I was expecting to have glaze applied to the ends as well, to add some shine to my old, dull color. She said she was happy to do it, and even tho she had a client right after me she applied the glaze and had her coworker rinse it off.
