The girl was sweet but they charged me $15 for a BANG trim.... every salon i've ever been to has done this for free even my high end salon in San Diego. I asked her to thin out my bangs and make them more whispy for spring, specifying that i did NOT want them straight across. while she did texturize them, they sit above my eyebrows and are very much straight across instead of whispy. We have been on a quest to find a salon in the SB area that could do bi-racial hair and we had very little luck until we found this salon.. My daughter went into the salon today and had an appointment with Tori! I want to extend my thanks as a parent for your salon having a stylist that can care for bi-racial/multi-racial hair. This seems to be lacking in the SB area. My daughter was very happy with the results from Tori doing her hair. She said she definitely wants to go to Tori regularly to care for her hair. Alex is a master of his craft, a genius. Ok, my YELP review is complete...just kidding! I could stop there, but you'd be without the supportive evidence of my well founded claim. So I'll start at the top and work my way down. 1.) Alex is to hair, what Michelangelo was to the Italian Renaissance. An inspired sculpture, painter, and architect. Add in scientist for all the formulations of color and health restoratives while we're at it. 2.) He listens, asks question, you see the wheels turning in his head as he is taking in every aspect of your current hair, the photos of what you want and actually gives a true, "consultation". Not just 1 min of falsely wagging his head saying he can make that happen and then you end up with something the stylist/designer felt like doing, or not doing today! Thank you for your genuine listening skills Alex, it's a rare commodity today! 3.)He stays up to date with all the new techniques, products & classes. So many stylists and estheticians, heck, this actually applies to so many fields, so let's generalize, so many professionals stop learning the day they complete their formal education. Which is a sad death and a waste, also why it is important to do work that you are passionate about, because, YOU NEVER STOP GROWING or LEARNING in ones respective field. Alex applies the effort to  take in that continued education that gives him that edge and his clients that edge above the rest. He learns all those techniques and product usage, to give one that, dare I say it, "Instagram Worthy", "Hair Goals", "Hair on Fleek", hashtag ability. Heck, my husband can spot me 2 blocks down when I walk out of Alex's salon. The technology in all the products and the ability to use them, makes or breaks a stylist now days. 4.) He has the years of practice that creates perfection of craft. This isn't his first rodeo, so much that he is mentoring his staff in his salon, which gives others the ability to grow, learn, earn more, make more people happy...the domino effect here people! Also, this isn't his first successful salon, the man knows what he's doing. 5.) Which leads me to his business skills, he is a fine business man, he knows his target demographic, he's patient, creates a beautiful synergy, a happy, fun, cool, uplifting atmosphere. Which if anyone is familiar with stuffing a bunch of people in a building and trying to orchestrate them to work together, share, teach/learn/grow together, get along or show any sign of liking one another (fake or real), you will be gleefully happy at what this man has accomplished within the confines of his salon. 6.) Fair price points for the services are another demonstration of his business savvy. He's not giving his work or his stylists work away for free, he is at a fair, moderate price point. Anyone who says anything different, hasn't had enough hair salon experiences. Also, you can't place a price on having your dream hair come true. That being said, if one wants more than the basic trending color and cuts, (not that there is ANYTHING wrong at all with that), but from a very finicky clients perspective, one who has been all over the map and who can't count how many times she's been disappointed, wasted money and gave up on actualizing a vision regarding how she's like to perceive her hair looking...Alex and his team have been so refreshing, consistent and unwavering for caring for me and my hair needs. PS: Tori Smith does the most remarkable blow out, and I could fall asleep when she washes/conditions my hair. I always leave her chair feeling ready to take on my day! I had a great experience at this salon on Saturday. I don't live in the area, and I needed a blow out for family photos we were taking that day. I searched on yelp and found their reviews to be good so gave them a call and booked an appointment. They booked me with Jaida who was great, happy, helpful and very fast! She was waiting and ready for me at reception when I walked in. I had a 3pm appointment and was done within about 35-40 mins with a blow out and curl (I do have short bob hair cut).  I have fine, straight hair and she was able to give me volume and a nice beach wave/ curl for my photos. Having never done my hair before, she adapted well to what products would work best and using a straightener instead of a curling iron to get the desired outcome. In addition to the prompt service at the salon, I received text messages to remind me of my service which was a nice touch. The salon was clean and had a nice vibe. The only thing I didn't care for was having to book with a credit card at the time of my call. I was going to schedule an appointment online and when it requested my cc I decided to just call the salon thinking I could avoid that. Instead the receptionist still needed my cc info for a $43 blow out. I'm sure they have their reasons, but at my salon in LA where my cut/ color runs me $200 or more, I never have to give my cc to book an appointment. * online experience *As for my online experience with Alex's blow dry bar one little bit of advice- "we just want to know the prices!" put them on the page clearly so that we can decide whether or not to book online. Alex knows his shit! I have a full head of hair, it's pretty fluffy and big and looks awful when if a stylist doesn't know how to layer properly. I've had issues with this for years because I didn't necessarily want layers but to take some weight off my head. Alex is Edward Scissorhands! Does amazing work "texturizing" the ends of my hair and takes his time. He has a friendly staff as well and uses pleasant products on my hair. Worth the price. Cassidy did an absolutely amazing job on my hair!  I went in for a blow out and beach waves for a friends wedding and was so thrilled with the result.  She was super personable, and knowledgeable.  I enjoyed chatting with her, and she took extra care making sure the shorter layers of my hair blended in with the rest of the waves rather than sticking out as they began to do.  I appreciated her skill and the time she took to make sure I was happy with the end result.  I got so many compliments at the wedding, and will definitely be going back if I'm in the area again. Review is for my first time at the salon. I'm new to town and love using Yelp as a resource. The reviews for Alex's Salon brought me in. I also looked at their website; was prepared for the price of a haircut at $50-$75 and a consult would occur.  The price would be discussed before the service started.Making the appointment, easy, finding the place, challenging. Walk in greeted by reception, asked if I wanted anything to drink, asked to take a seat. Very friendly.Stylist walks up shortly after and introduces himself, he's Alex. He does ask me questions.. my preferences on length, movement, last haircut etc and his face shows disagreement to my answers.. almost shaking his head no..  agree on style and off to get hair shampooed.. ok, this was the worst shampooing experience I've ever had! Very rough, tossing my head side to side, pushing his thumbs into my head. Not smoothly.. it stressed me out because I couldn't relax my neck.. it's awkward enough with your head hanging in the bowl. The rinsing was so quick I wasn't sure all the shampoo or conditioner was out of my hair. Rough and short was the theme. I almost said something and yes, should have, but the shock about how bad it was kept me quiet. I don't want to come off as complaining either as Alex already seemed to show annoyance with me.Back to the chair.. Alex has an easily distracted energy, having a hard time focusing.. was concerning but I was patient.. we did chat about various issues so that was entertaining. My other disappointment was he clearly didn't know my name. It would have been that bit of extra customer service to bring me back. Overall he didn't seem to care if I came back.. I like the cut but I just don't think my service was worth $74.  It's odd not knowing the price until you pay, after your done. I had thought it would cost $50 or $55. I think it depends on who your haircut does. The young terrible bored loooking hairdresser had no idea how I wanted my hair to be cut, after I have told her. So I told her the steps to do and I literally had to make her attentive to improve a few things a child would see. But I don't know whether she didn't see them or she just didn't care. First of all, I was late and said sorry for being late, but I had to wait, because the hairdresser was late too. A few minutes later she came in with a lunch bag. She said she would come in a few moments back and so she did. I could enjoy a fine hair washing then. Thereafter, when she was doing her job for about ten minutes another woman came to tell her the next customer was waiting. That depressed me a lot. Finally, the hairdresser used the hairdryer to blow her own hair more than twice while she blowed my hair. After all, I had a good haircut, mostly because of the numerous advice I had given. In the end, it cost thirty bucks for a regular men's haircut plus ten bucks on top which is a hairdresser related charge. That experience wasn't worth two Jacksons. I would bet, it depends on who your haircut does and I recommend the salon not to schedule the appointments so sharp. In addition, the hairdresser should buy their lunch during the given pauses. Alex, his staff and the salon were all amazing ! I made an appointment out of the blue hoping to get a refresh for spring - much lighter hair and a beach wave cut. Alex was a professional. He asked me intuitive questions about I wanted - he explained to what he was doing and why - and finally he made the experience relaxing and enjoyable. I love this salon! I found them on Yelp. My hairdresser's before would always cut my length off more than I wanted. Kelsey gives me the best cuts and has helped me get my hair way longer. Not to mention their color skills are the best!!! My hair was black for years. Kelsey started lighting it. It looks so good and it didn't get damaged at all. She is pure magic! I can completely trust her to with my hair. I also go for bow outs on special occasions. Another benefit is that everyone that works there and other clients are all really friendly. It's an ok place. Very overpriced salon and when I went to get highlights done, the stylist did a terrible job. When I complained about the bad work, they said there wasn't much they could do to fix someone else's work. They eventually did a temporary fix, but made it seem like it was a hassle. OMG this place was my saving grace! I was completing a week long trip through CA, and through the sun, sand, and air my hair was needing help ASAP. First off, they were able to get me in on the same day I called which is almost unheard of in most salons. Major props to that! I had a haircut with Kelsey and was so happy with the results. I felt she really listened to all my concerns and also pointed out a few tweaks she wanted to cut differently with my hair. Love that! Last thing I need is someone who will just cut my hair and let go. All the gals were so nice, the front desk was a major help in guiding my foreign ass to the place. I randomly decided to get a haircut and read some reviews and this place sounded like a good pick. I was able to make an appointment for the same day. When I got there, they were ready for me. Erin was amazing. She was perfectly attentive, and had a great presence - not at all someone you feel trapped into taking to because they're cutting your hair :P and she did a great job! I have been to my fair share of hair salons and been to countless stylists and as a Bottle Blonde with special hair care needs, I can without a doubt say Alex's Beauty Bar is the absolute best you can get. I've been going to Alex for almost 3 years now. Since then my hair has gotten healthier and actually grew an extra 6 inches which I could never do before I came to Alex's because it would constantly break and require serious cutting.
