My mom was in town and noticed a small chip in her gel manicure late on a Sunday afternoon. Oh no! What an emergency!  So I scrambled to find a place to squeeze us in last minute. After calling around, I reached the owner, who said she'd fit us in.Not only did she stay late for us on a Sunday night, her manicure was flawless and she was absolutely adorable.  She was kind and made us feel so welcome in her salon. I will never, ever, ever step foot in this place again. As I was paying for my mani-pedi, this was the conversation I had with the Vietnamese owner (I think she goes by "Melanie"):[she looks at the name on my card]Owner: Are you Chinese?Me: No, I'm Vietnamese.Owner: You have a Chinese last name.Me: I know, but my family is Vietnamese.Owner: Do you speak Vietnamese?Me: No.Owner: How can you not speak Vietnamese? How did you speak with your mother?Me: [starting to get irritated] I spoke English with her.Owner: [not hiding her obvious judgement of me] How did you speak with your father?Me: [annoyed and not sure where her aggression is coming from] I didn't speak with my father. He's dead.Owner: [frowning while giving me a a look of distaste] Your name isn't Vietnamese. You don't speak Vietnamese. You're not Vietnamese.After that I just walked out. My friend who was with me could not believe what she heard and was like "What's her problem? What was that about?"
