I found Nicole when I was looking for affordable Japanese hair straightening in the San Jose. She is great!The process takes a really long time, maybe 6-7 hours for me with long (4 inches at least past my shoulders) hair. Nicole met me on a Sunday morning and I was done in the  late afternoon. I also brought a book to read.This is the 1st time I had the process done, so if you you are like me and have never done this before, you will be amazed. I have thick hair with half tight curls on the bottom and wavy hair on top- the type of hair that just looks terrible if you don't want to spend a lot of time on it every day.After my time with Nicole, my hair is perfectly straight. I use a blow dryer with my fingers after a shower and that's it! No products, no sectioning hair off, and no big brushes! This is worth the money in time saved, let alone how great my hair looks every single day!It cost me $350 for hair 4 inches past the shoulders. This review isn't really on the salon but on Mindy my amazing hairstylist! She rents a chair here. I've been going to Mindy for about 8 years now and will never go to anyone else. She has been the one to always cut my hair, give me highlights, make me a red head, give me side bangs, give me straight across bangs or make me blonde! And she super exceeded in all my looks!!! The products she uses for hair coloring and washing your hair are amazing! The number one compliment I get is my hair and how healthy it looks (even though I've been coloring my hair for the past 18 years of my life). That's how great Mindy is! I also trust her judgement. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Nicole!I waited a couple of months before I wrote this so that I can see if Japanese hair straightening was successful. I had it done before by someone else and after 3 months my hair looked a mess and had a lot of breakage. PLUS I also paid way more then what Nicole charges.  I visited Nicole in March of this year and it is now July and my hair still looks great! I have to flat iron my hair still, but the treatment really helped control how frizzy my hair is and my time straightening my hair is now cut in half. My hair is naturally really wavy. I don't know who Mindy is and I'm sure shes great, but Jakie is just outstanding!! This review has been delayed for so long but honestly I have been going to her for 5 years now and she never disappoints! Throughout the years, i will admit, i have tried others for a cut or highlights just for the sake of trying something new, but i swear i keep coming back to Jakie because she "gets" hair the best, in my experience. Btw don't try tangerine in downtown, they messed up my hair cut and after it grew out a bit i went to Jakie to fix and highlight and the results were BEAUTIFUL!! Everyone that saw my hair just loved it! And Jakie was the one who suggested the color, so that tells u something about her knowledge about hair! Overall, the place is great and Jakie is the jem of the place. p.s. You might see some cute old ladies doing their hair at other stylists in the shop but don't let that scare you off! I was looking for someone who could do Japanese straightening and found Nicole. She did a great job on the straightening part so I also had her do a color job on me on the same day. I was very happy with the result, and being used to paying $80 for a haircut alone in other salons, i find her rates surprisingly reasonable. I was back today for a color touch up, a deep moisturizing treatment, and a trim. Love how my hair turned out. Nicole is really sweet and she puts all her time and attention on you and your hair so everything gets done fast and right. She even gave me a couple of rice cakes that she made for Chinese New Year. I was badly in need of a good hair cut and color. But I didn't want to go back to my old hair stylist ever again. Yeah, I got duped into agreeing to an artsy asymmetrical style that's actually a lopsided, uneven cut. Argh! Never again.Anyway, I was getting thoroughly irritated at the way my hair was growing, a bad hair day doesn't even describe it. I perused Yelp last weekend and found this salon and Mindy. I gave her a call for the soonest possible appointment. She answered right away and told me she'd be done with her client in 30 mins and that I can come right away. Yay! I did say the soonest so I jumped at the chance. Besides, I live only 30 minutes away from the salon.Mindy was waiting for me when I got there. She's friendly and got down to business right away. She suggested a nice hair color for me and asked me how I like my hair cut. I said I've no need for an outrageous style, I just wanted something simple and easy to care for. And she did just that. The result: No more lopsided, uneven cut and a wonderful hair color that suits me. Thanks to Mindy. Before I left the salon, she made sure there's nothing off with the hair cut, shared tips on how to style it and meticulously fuss over it to give me that "just-came-out-of-the-salon" look. This was the worst experience of my life. Went to get a fill with black tips, and the manicurist has never done black tips. She didn't know that the black powder dried so fast and she took 2 1/2 hours to complete my manicure! I was completley dissatisfied with her work...then she proceeded to tell me personal things about her life and also to tell me that I was going to have bad luck until Feb. 1....good GOD! I went to another salon and had them fixed...there were bubbles in the gel coating and the heater didn't dry my coating properly!!!! I will never go back to her again.
