I've been coming to this place for a long time (over 10 years) when it was called First Lady nails before it was renamed Beauty Bar. Upon stepping inside I was disappointed to see that not much has changed. Based on the reviews, I was hoping for a much updated interior, with new equipment, lighting, spa chairs, etc. It still has the same green walls and abysmal polish collection. That's was the biggest gripe I had with the owners before. Basically it's stocked with only awful colors that no one wants in a hodge podge of different low end brands with some OPI and Essie thrown in there. All the bottles are crusted and stained with polish, like they simply never clean or replace it. I couldn't find a neutral color to save my life. Maybe my standards are too high but any nail salon in Manhattan will have a well stocked, clean set of polishes arranged by colors and all with high end brands. Now onto the actual mani and pedi. It's simply very "meh" for the price. Everything was also SO slow. It took over 2 hours for a simple mani pedi. The application was unnecessarily messy which wasted more time since she had to clean it up afterwards. I rarely write reviews but I moved to LA about six months ago and have been searching for a place to get my nails done. And honestly, I'm so impressed with this place. Super friendly staff as well as well decorated and I'm a sucker for the puppies, really makes you feel relaxed and at home. I've brought in pictures and both Malcolm and another girl who's name escapes me ( I want to say Katee ) did a really amazing job taking the idea and making it work for me. My most recent nails were done by Malcolm and just to die for, I can't figure out how to add pictures but they took pictures at the salon of red matte with black dripping nails and those are mine. You can make your appointments online if you create an account first! They do get packed on the weekends so make sure you book ahead of time! When you come in, you check in and then wait for someone to set up and then they'll call you over. I came here twice this past week. Once for a normal manicure ($14) and a deluxe pedicure ($40). The lady who helped me for the manicure was super friendly -her name was Julie! All the people here are super nice and try to engage in conversation. They're all really happy to help you! Needed a pedicure for a wedding. Beauty bar is located on the corner. If there's no parking in the front or the side street, there's parking located in the back. Drove by and saw it was pretty busy but I decided to go in. Walked in at around 4pm on a Friday afternoon w/ no appointment and was greeted by the receptionist. Took me in right away. I chose my color and was seated in the pedicure spa chair. I got the basic pedicure which includes: cleaning, cut and file, massage, hot towel and polish. My nail technician took about an hr and I enjoyed it. This is more of a young hip nail bar. They had music videos playing  on the big screen. My total came out to $20 and I tipped my technician. Extremely dissatisfied with the service I have received here recently. I used to frequent this nail salon, decided to come back after about a year of not getting my nails done and am beyond disappointed with the results. A couple days after getting my nails done, I realized that they were all separating from my natural nail. I have a full set acrylic. This is nothing I have experienced before. I called to let the manager know I was dissatisfied and he advised me I would be ab...le to come in and get them fixed. Shortly thereafter, it snowed over 5 inches in Charleston and I wasn't able to make it to James island for at least 5 days due to icy roads (I live in North Charleston). I called now that the roads are clear and the manager let me know he will not be able to fix my nails. After I let him know numerous times I was not physically able to make it to James island, he insisted I should have come earlier to get the mistake HIS technician made fixed. I was able to call in to make a same day appointment, so that was nice!I would go back again to probably get gel manicure because the girl who did my manicure was very detailed oriented and super friendly.  My gel manicure cost $37 ($30 for regular gel manicure + $7 for 1 pair marble design on each of my ring finger)I don't know if I would go back to get a pedicure though.  The lady who did my pedicure messed up painting one of my big toes and when she tried to redo it.  She cut my cuticle so my skin was raw and stung a lot when she applied the nail remover and alcohol so that wasn't a nice experience.  I had made an appointment for the deluxe pedicure, but the lady ended up giving me a regular pedicure.  I didn't want to tell her that I wanted deluxe because I thought she would do a lousy job.  They only charged me for the regular pedicure ($20). This was my second time here and it's the most modern nail salon I've ever been at. The interior of the place is really clean and pretty and there's 2 of the cutest dogs I've ever seen! If you need some puppy therapy and get your nails done, here is the best place to do so. My first experience here was about a year ago when my friend and I were trying to find a "to-go" nail salon. I haven't came back after a year because I've been trying nail salons over 626 trying to find the best and cheapest nail salon to go to. I decided to come back to give it a try again and I was sold.I don't remember who the person doing my nail was but I came in after making an appointment online for a fill. It's great that they use an automated system where you can book on their website and they'll send you text reminders because now I can never forget when my appointment is. My manicurist was sweet and very meticulous. There was no rush and I liked how detail oriented she was. I know that a year ago when I had Kimi do my acrylics, she was like that too so I assume that all of their manicurist is meticulous, which is a great thing.The price is alittle higher/same as most places in 626. My gel fill was $46 + tip which in my opinion, is alittle pricey but with the service that you get, the price is worth is in the end. There's also complimentary drinks (tea, water, coffee, wine, mimosas, etc.) which is something that also shows how well they take care of their customers. Everytime I fly in town, I always make an appointment here! I love the service and quality that the nail techs provide, even if I have different people working on me each time. Katie is my favorite tech for acrylics! She's so accommodating and consults on the best shape/color so that it aligns to my finger shape. I've also gotten eyebrow waxing here, which is highly recommended. Unlike other salons, they don't thin out my eyebrows and it's full + clean.Malcom is fabulous when it comes to designing! I got my eyebrows tinted by Lisa and it came out horribly uneven. My left eye brow was very arched and thick. My right eye brow was thin and straight. Some parts of my left eyebrow didn't absorb the color so I had 3 strange beige spots.I was so embarrassed, it looked so ugly, like she used a sharpie. Although the tint was suppose to leave a temporary color for 2 weeks, most of the tint came off when I washed my face the same night. I'm glad the tint came off because it looked as if she drew on my face with a sharpie. It was so embarrassing walking around that day. There was still a faint uneven awful stain but it completely came off the next day. after she waxed my eye brows I've never gotten them back to the shape I liked. Came here they were busy even tho I had an appointment but I understood. I got Katee who made me laugh right away her personality is the best and she's so good at what she does . I got a manicure and pedicure and she just made me feel so relaxed and she was so friendly and kept a good convo . I will be coming back because of her . I like this place because they have so much to offer it's not just nails it's a whole full menu that you can just go to one place and get it all . And just leave feeling pampered . Staff was super nice and sweet. I got a basic pedicure and a gel manicure + I had to get 2 acrylics removed because I had broke those two nails the last time I had my nails done. 56$. Fifty-six dollars for a mani/pedi. I was shocked when the girl up front told me my total. I had to look at a price menu. I felt stupid, that's how shocked I was. I'm sad to say that I won't be coming back. Such a bummer because I live 2 blocks away (I moved to San Gabriel in October and have been looking for a place near by because my go-to nail salon is all the way in Eagle Rock- my friend recommended this place). Anyway, I think 56$ is just too much. + tip. I walked out spending 64$ for a mani/pedi + that glass of complimentary wine, I feel.  Rating a 4. If you need your nails done at a specific day and make an appointment, you cannot count on these people! Making an appointment means nothing to them!!! My daughter made an appointment for us over a week ago so that we would have something to look forward to when she got home from camp. The day before our appointment they said they were closing early and couldn't fit us in the afternoon and so she allowed them to fit us in when THEY were available in the morning.  I had to move all of my plans around to accommodate them and spend time with my daughter since she really wanted to try this place.  Today we are on our way there and they called to say they are running so late and could not keep our appointment time...it's so bad that it would run into our other plans, so we had to cancel. This review comes from having a gel mani done 3 weeks ago! Let's start off with my last minute situation.So, after having some confusion about the date of a wedding I was attending (it was a Friday wedding and not saturday) I was going to ask to be squeezed into my old usual salon for a mani pedi and got scolded for trying to do so. I even told them its ok if i only got a mani. Needles to say they made me feel horrible for something out of my control/knowledge. Nuh-uh honey, you don't treat your customers like that. I walked out and quickly did some research and found BBSGV. I messaged them and let them know my situation, and without hesitation Ben was the sweetest and had me in the door for a mani and pedi within 30 minutes of me asking. Wow!I was greeted at the door by the two cutest little shop greeters on the planet. I was so in love! They followed me over as if to guide me where to go(I LOVE dogs so you guys sold me then and there lol) The receptionists are lovely and promptly led me to wait in the back with their samples to look though. I love how they had a HUGE variety of samples. Possibilities were endless.I was taken in by Teresa and asked her opinion on what style I should get based on my outfit for that day. She recommended a holo ombre, which I was surprised she could do with my length. She definitely did not disappoint! She was super gentle and had such a soft hand. I felt like a princess. Overall i was taken care of with a lovely mani and pedi and was out the door within an hour. AN HOUR!I want to give a HUGE thanks to BB for accommodating me on what could have been a disastrous day. They lifted my spirits and made me feel like a wanted and valued customer. And to this day, my gel mani has not peeled or chipped! I just have new nail  growth. I can't wait to go back. There are 2 things made me feel so frustrated since I'd done my Madicure & pedicure this afternoon. 1. The operator guy Ben was arbitrary  the manicurist  Jane to Vanessa without any notice or explain till I asked. Which means he didin't care the new clients. This's the second time I went there & I just know Jane she done my Manicur gel before very well, of course I asked her doing  for me this time when I made an appointed. So far Vanessa is not bad.2. Ben arranged the pedicurist Julie was unpro & terriable . She talked too much & didn't focus on her job. I finally got to check this place out a couple months ago, and was amazed by the ambience This place really isn't your typical vietnamese owned salon. Although they are vietnamese they run it very americanized by doing online booking and sending reminder visits with coupons. On top of that the workers aren't constantly chattering in their language gossiping they're completely focused in taking their time in doing your nails. They're not rushed to do the next customer.  which  From walking in there dogs are ADORABLE, although maybe some might say its not sanitary? i think its super cute and really brings a home feel to the place. Drove past this place all the time and can't believe I haven't checked this place out until recently. I had an event coming up and was in a desperate need of a pedicure. Called in last minute and they were able to book me right away!The place is a little bigger than some of the other salons in the area. They have a nice little seating area with 2 big TVs that plays pop music videos/mashups and lots of stations. There's also cute and vibrant signs about their business and offerings posted all around the salon. I got their deluxe pedicure, which is in between their regular one and signature one. The pedicure itself is pretty nice. In addition to the usual foot soaking and grooming, the pedicure also came in with a nice scrub and mask. The lady who did my pedicure was really nice and was super detailed when it came to painting and getting rid of my calluses. The appointment took a decent amount of time as well- I would say just a little over an hour. Total came out to around $35 without tip. Service is pretty top-notch as well and you can tell they really make an effort to provide a relaxing experience. There was a guy walking around making sure everyone was okay and offering snacks and beverages (i.e. water, tea, wine). They also offer free-wifi (huge plus considering our digital age!)Plenty of parking spots in the back and on the street. Will definitely be coming back to try out some of their other services. First off, I came in before a girl and her boyfriend and they were served first. I waited to get my pedicure so long that the water they ran for me turned so cold I had to take my feet out. After waiting for so long when the technician refilled the water he about cooked my feet. The tech during the pedicure gouged my toes twice which hurt! One of my toe nails isn't even cut straight across, it's cut at an angle and looks stupid. I asked at one point what the blue powder was that he poured into my water and he had no idea. With this place, it really depends on who you choose that depends on your experience here.For waxing, Lisa or Kim will definitely work wonders and keep you coming back for more. Make sure you make an appointment ahead of time with Lisa. She usually leaves for the day if she has no more appointments. For nails, Kim or Sally would be perfect. They do a great job with manicures and pedicures. If you want acrylic, Kim is the best fit and would do the best job. They're very nice ladies and will make a conversation with you!For haircuts and dying, Yolie is by fair the best choice. She will take good care of your hair and make sure it's damage free if you would like a styling. Also, if you have any questions about your hair or what would be best for it, she will have no problem answering them.Honestly, this is a great place and all the ladies are great. So I read the reviews and most of them were bad so I had to try for myself. Those ladies are very nice, also very selective on who they serve. I am big on service and they were nothing but sweet to me. My nails look fantastic. I was a little worried about the older lady but she did an awesome job on my toes that I messed up a few times and she had to fix over again, but she was sweet about it. I will definitely return. I have come to this nail salon several times and have left disappointed most of those times. I must say. If your going to get anything done make sure it's Lisa who does it she is simply the best. I go in to get waxed every once in awhile and usually have Lisa do my waxing. Today I had someone else do my waxing it was an absolute nightmare!! Never in my life have I had someone blow spit on my hot wax on my face. The lady waxing my eyebrows placed burning hot wax on my face and when she realized I was burnt started blowing her fish breath all over me to cool off the wax. It was absolutely disgusting. There are a lot of mixed review here which I really feel primary depend on WHO you have work on you. You will read names such as Lisa, Kim or Sally primarily that had good ratings. Which is true because I always have Sally work on my nails and she has always been great! One time she was really busy and ask me if someone else can help me that day and I agreed. It obviously wasn't any of the 3 names above and it was an old lady that I either questioned if she was licensed or she is too old to do the job. I feel bad as they are just trying to make a living but they have to know that we are paying for a service as well and I don't think i should be paying a crooked flower or french tips which had also took her double the time Sally would have done it. (minus 1/2 star)Aside from that, Sally is just wonderful and has good customer service and if my nails were a little off, crooked, if I don't like the art she does, she will fix it without hesitation. The good thing is, its really rare that she messes up.All the staff are really friendly and welcoming. This place is pretty spacious and clean. Although I question if they really autoclave/sterilize things per each customer use and you do need to park in the street (minus 1/2 point).Another reason why I love this place is the convenience and varieties of service they offer. I really want to like this place. I try to keep my business in San Gabriel, since I live here. The space is nice, though it could be cleaner...which is the issue. The staff seem to have a fairly cavalier attitude about cleanliness and professionalism in general. This could easily be a 5-star establishment, but they've got to take themselves more seriously.I finally gave up a few months ago when what appeared to be someone's elderly grandmother gave me what can only be described as a totally incompetent spa pedicure that she wasn't terribly interested in being bothered with. It was like watching a train wreck, I just couldn't believe she was going to try to pass this off as a job well done. But she totally did. There was no bloodshed, but that is the best I can say for it. I redid when I got home. I recommend investing in a sterilizer and sealer so you can crack open a new clean set of tools to give your clients peace of mind. Get rid of the carpet, it's a liability in a nail salon. Additionally, just because you have some spare relatives wandering around doesn't mean you should have them pitch in: Giving a good pedicure is a skill, and you devalue the skills of those who put effort into it when you have just anyone do it. I tried this place so many times, and each time with lack-luster results. The price and convenience will get anyone , including me, to come through the door. But I do hate wasting money on horrible services. I tried the spa pedicure and it chipped the same day after I left the shop. But I kept trying to go for some waxing. I get different girls. One more chatty, one just gets down to business, and one old lady who I'm not sure should be handling customers. It wasn't until now that I finally read another review regarding their "unprofessional" staff. As in no license for some employees! So I don't think that old lady should be trying to help anyone. First time I had her, she was slow and would show me the strips after pulling them away from my skin!! I know those are my hairs lady, that's why I want you to remove them and not put it up to my face!  Another time, I had to wait and a girl on the next booth was screaming of pain for a bikini wax. Which seemed like forever. Good thing I only get my legs and underarms done here (my bikini line gets handled somewhere else).  I went in on a slow day and got the old lady again who liked to put the damn wax strips up to your face to show you that the hairs came off. My sister and I went to this place once for nails since it was near by.  This place is rather shady that not all of their staff are certified. If you go here, you better ask the person working on you to show their certification and an ID to match the name.  My sister was unfortunate enough to get this lady who is not certified.  She took forever to work on her nails and didn't get anything right.  My sister was observing her and was skeptical the whole time.  She finally have to bring this up because of how long the lady took to paint the nails and the process was not in the right order.  Yes, it was weird she painted the nails first when the nails was not even cut.  No apology was offered, some boss lady came in and switched out the lady to another lady.  The new lady mentioned how the boss has her 'relatives' work here and most of them are not certified.  Service:  quite bias, they will give the Caucasian white customers to the favored staff since they tip more and for the Asian customers, the inexperience to no certification staff.  This is not a place for a relaxing manicure/pedicure if you have to check and verified the folks if they are even certified.  Save your money and time, go somewhere else!This place does not even deserve a star rating due to their dishonest business. Parking: Never had issue with street parking.  There's an adjacent lot, but not sure if you are allowed to park there for the nail salon or if it's for the dentist's office only.Environment:  Claims free wi-fi, but I've never tried it out.  Not exactly the most up to date.  There is a row for hair services (2 chairs), a row for manicures and regular pedicures (4 or 5 seats), and a row for spa pedicures (4 or 5 chairs).  The waxing rooms are in the back (2 rooms).  The waxing rooms have open ceilings (like cubicles with doors).  It can get super busy at times and then it will smell more like a nail salon, but when it's not busy, I don't really notice the smell.Waxing: Although I've had my nails done here (maybe 3 times tops), I regularly only come here for brow waxing.  Just a tip, if you do come her for waxing, I recommend Lisa.  Not sure if she does nails because I've never seen her do nails, but I prefer her for waxing.  It's not necessarily that she does a better job than other staff (although she's pretty good) because I haven't really had a bad outcome from the other staff, but out of everyone, she's the most friendly and least pushy.  If you request a brow waxing, she will only give you a brow waxing.  Unlike all the other staff who try to push other services on you like lip waxing, manicure, and pedicure, I don't recall a time when she's asked me if I would also like my lips waxed when I've only requested my brows to be done.  She also speaks perfect English and likes to chat it up with you.  Manicure/Pedicure: As for manicures and pedicures, I tend not to get my nails done because they never last with all the hand washing I had to do (I've worked both in a hospital and other settings with children).  If they get me in a good mood I will agree to a pedicure.  However, their pedicures are only subpar at best.  I've had both the spa pedicure and the regular pedicure.  Not really sure what the difference is between the two aside from the price and the fact that for the spa one you get to sit in a big chair higher up and the regular one you sit in a regular rolling chair.  Other than that I don't really recall a difference in the experience.  Not worth the extra few bucks if you ask me.Price: Average.  $7 for the eyebrow waxing.  $10 if you add lip waxing to it at the same time.  Pedicure is about $12 (over priced especially for the quality).  They also accept credit cards.Overall, I would continue to come here for eyebrow waxing but nothing else. This place came highly recommended, so I decided to give it a go.  I had an appointment with Kim and still waited an extra 15 minutes.  It didn't bother me too much since I was accompanied by my cousin.  I was here for a regular mani/pedi combo and the price read $16 plus an extra $3 for french tip on my toes.  This is a total steal compared to Hawaii prices so I like to treat myself when in I'm in LA.My stars represents the quality of work done by Kim.  She was gentle and followed my directions quite well.  I heard she's the best, so I can't imagine what qualities the other employees generate.  That's not really saying much.  I had my nails shaped round and I love them that way, so don't criticize your customers preferences (minus a star).  To me, I think the squared look is tacky and funky looking on some people.  My left foot was done flawlessly and assuming it was done so well, I didn't bother to stare at my right foot.  There were 2 toes with rough curves and a french manicure demands nice, and mostly important uniformed white tips (minus a star).   The place is mostly dedicated to nails, but there's a small section that does hair.  They also advertise facials and full waxing services.  The place seems fairly clean and they do try to add some trendy olive colors on their walls to make this place pop.  Though they accept credit card, there's a small fee that they charge.  While my toes are being worked on, I kept myself busy with their free wi-fi. I don't normally like to leave negative reviews for places because I understand how hard it is to earn a dollar in the economy we live in but once you lie to me or try to swindle me for my money then you're going to get what you deserve. I called on a Sunday, the day before July 4th. Around 12 in the afternoon and asked them if anyone was available to do a manicure and pedicure AND remove my gel pedicure. I repeated "you sure you can REMOVE my gel pedicure?" I asked 3 times just to clarify in case there was a language barrier and the person I spoke to said "yes yes come in now". So I come in ready and relaxed to get my nails done.. Sit in the chair as they begin. Meanwhile I'm chatting away with another customer who is getting gel for her first time as I explain to her the pros and cons of a gel polish.Then, my pedicurist goes "oh! I can't remove your gel pedicure. It takes like one hour to do. Too long." At this point, I'm far from relaxed and fuming. They try to insist on getting just my manicure there and I go "I asked you 3 times over the phone if you could perform the removal of my gel pedicure and you said yes! You just wasted my time coming here and you're going to insist getting a manicure from you guys when I want both a manicure and pedicure??" They basically lied and lured me in over the phone just so I could give them my own hard earned money. Ummmm yeah, No thanks!!!I'd rather go elsewhere like Bella Nails. The ambiance and customer service is way more better there than this place. Definitely worth the extra miles of driving than First Lady Nails. Plus, Bella Nails does not pester you for additional services. Its very relaxing... I enjoyed my experience at Bella Nails. Read my review for them on their page. I like coming here to get my eyebrows waxed. Kim does a fantastic job of getting my eyebrows perfectly arched, and neatly trimmed, and especially getting rid of those small stubborn, emerging ones. Her hands are lightning fast, and it doesn't hurt when she pulls the strips, and when she applies the hot wax, it's enough heat to grasp onto the hair without burning my sensitive skin. I Love Lisa, shes the best eye brow waxer ever... Im so picky, its hard to find someone good and who you trust!  Shes awesome at what she does!  I left my regular lady for 11 years for Lisa.  If your in need of an eye brow waxing specialist, at a comprable price, go to First Lady Nails!I work in the medical field, you can only imangin how often I wash my hands, a manicure in necessary and polish is a wast of time... Untill, Kimmy introduced me to Gel Polish... It's almost been a full 3 weeks and my nails are still presentable!  I need to have them done because they are growing out...The best 20 bucks I ever spent!   If you like that, fresh polished manicure look, weeks after doing them without chipping of the polish then it is well worth the money to do a "Gel Polish" manicure next time you have your nails done.Its best to make an appointment, so you dont have to wait,  because they DO accomadate walk in's.  To avoid Feeling like people are seated before you call ahead of time!!!
