This was my second time here with my boyfriend. We enjoyed it last June so we decided to go back even though it's a little on the expensive side. We won't be returning as both our toe nails and some of my finger nails were trimmed in such a way to be painful like ingrown nails were working the following days and for some nails still almost two weeks later. My gel manicure lasted 1.5 weeks before starting to lift from edges so I was happy with that and impressed with the color choices for both regular and gel but for $70+ for a pedicure and gel manicure, I expect to have an experience that doesn't result in wincing when i take a step or type on a keyboard. The previous reviews reflect my experience, but I could only give it 4.5 stars because I'm cheap, and they charge 50% more for the same basic pedicure I can get elsewhere.  Anyway, I found it to be a really zen atmosphere. It was not loud and super busy like other salons, unless I went on an off day (weekday at 6pm). My pedi seems to be lasting and the technician was really meticulous. The technicians are much more interactive with customers than I see at other salons. They seem to have a good command of English and ask about nail shape before filing, and ask if they are causing any pain or discomfort. I really liked the online booking system. Cherryl who owns or manages this little hidden spa, was so welcoming! I walked in for a pedi and since all the chairs were full, I thought I had to wait a while. Turns out they were all booked. Her receptionist suggested to call me if they had an open spot today so I was going to leave and find another spot but Cherryl overheard and said they could accommodate my walk-in and seated me even when there was a couple waiting. So sweet!Her nail salon is also very clean, doesn't smell like overwhelming nail polish and well ventilated. I came to this place to get a mani, the place is half a block away from work. The service was great and the staff was very friendly. The place is clean and nice looking.  The price was a little on the high end but it is San Francisco so everything is pricier there. I'm not a regular here but if I need a mani or pedi and am at work this place works out great! Read Less

3.5 stars but rounding down since my nail technician cut too deeply on my ingrown big toe nail and it was painfully sore for two days afterwards. They are also on the pricier side ($30/Basic Pedicure), but at least my polish still looks solid after a couple of weeks. My friends and I made an appointment on a late Sunday afternoon, and they had to accommodate us in separate groups since they don't have that many nail technicians on a Sunday. Lesson learned- don't come here as a big group! Aside from that, this spa is nice, and they have a good selection of polish colors (OPI, Morgan Taylor, Essie, Zoya). I also liked that they have fans for your hands and feet, and they were nice enough not to charge us for the champagne that we brought for the event. I don't think I'll be back due to the price and the service that I got, but the staff here is very accommodating. This is probably my third time here and I really love them! They are super clean, nice and professional. The place is small, but they have an huge selection of gel colors! The most I've ever seen! They offer u drinks, and they have TVs showing nice movies. Today I watched "50 First Dates" again. One of my faves with Drew Barrymore! The owner is also super nice and always accommodates my last minute walk-ins too. Oh, and free parking right in front of it. For a girl who has lived in the city her whole life and who has bounced around from different neighborhoods, Tiptoes is great. I travel from Bernal Heights to Portrero Hill just for the amazing service I receive from all the staff.You walk in and you're greeted immediately and asked to pick your polish. They have an amazing selection of polishes, OPI included. Their chairs are amazingly comfortable. Once you're seated you're offered water or a choice of hot tea. I always get the chamomile tea since it feels fitting in the cozy environment. The foot spa they have is great. The simple mani/pedi is relaxing. They have a drying station but you're encouraged to sit and relax and finish your chick flick that's playing with subtitles right in front of you. The manis are done on top of a pillow which I just find so charming. The facility is always very clean. Once a customer leaves that station is cleaned. I'm a regular and it's great to be welcomed in by name. They always manage to squeeze me in since I'm awful with making an appt ahead of time even though they have an online appt maker.5/5 go here for the most calming mani pedi ever Read Less

I came here with my mom, sister, and my sister's mother-in-law to get mani-pedis before my sister's wedding. Originally she had signed us all up to get the full treatment, but in the end my mom and I decided to just get manicures. Nevertheless, we were all seated in the pedicure chairs. This was probably done so that we could all be seated together, but I found it odd that they didn't move us to a table station and have never before had a manicure with the technician standing up.The place itself is very clean and nice, the decor stylish and welcoming. However, this was definitely a sub-par manicure if I've ever had one. My nail technician was super friendly, but she kept watching the movie that was playing behind us and talking with the others, and I felt that she just wasn't paying attention. My nails already started to chip the day after, and she cut one of my cuticles. On several of the fingers the polish didn't start at the base. The massage she gave actually kind of hurt and wasn't enjoyable. My mom's manicure was done about 10 minutes before mine, even though we started at the same time. Hers was also just as bad; the polish was really thick in some places and it also started to chip after one day. Considering what we paid and what we got, I was quite disappointed. (Usually I write a review for myself and get over it but this happened days ago and I'm still pissed)I've been going to this nail salon for about a year and half now, two and three times a month and bringing my mom in here. The nail technicians are great, the place is clean, and for the most part the staff is friendly. Except for this lady that runs the counter, she has been very unwelcoming and condescending on several different occasions. She has been rude to my mother and I on several occasions and when we point out something wrong with the services she is never very apologetic nor eager to fix the problem. I've heard her speak down to the staff too and once she was so rude to a potential hire the poor girl just turned and walked out. She is also constantly putting her staff to do tasks that they are not able. For instance, she will have a lady do nail design that doesn't do it well and is obviously uncomfortable with the task (seems like it would be more professional to just let the customer know it cant be done than having them pay $8 for a shitty design they'll have to live with).Another instance I asked for matte and even though the lady doing my nails knew the bottle was too old she was instructed to use it anyway. It came out all chunky and gluey and they were content to leave it that way if I hadn't spoke up.Lastly, today, the last time I'll ever step foot in that place she had the front desk clerk do my eyebrows because I came in early and the regular lady was unavailable. She assured me this woman was a trained esthetician, trained maybe but skilled she was not. She took my eyebrows down too much on the top and left a lot of stray hairs, she didnt trim them the way they usually do and the whole thing looked very unclean and my arch is almost completely gone. And worse was when I came out upset she was this manager lady whoever she is was smirking at me. In what can only be described as extremely dim-witted, I decided I would make an inner-San Francisco move by myself. How hard could it be, I mistakenly thought. After a month of this ish, I was covered from head to toe in angry-colored bruises, my nails looked level-10 full throttle crackwhore, and you could grate cheese on my toenails. Not cool! Thank god for Tiptoes! I stopped by this spot in my new hood to give my hands and feet some much needed attention. I had an appointment at 12 on Wednesday, and of course I was running a few minutes late. I got there at 12:05 and was told I'd have to wait 15 more minutes. I didn't care because with all this moving crap I've had no time for skincare, so I did my makeup because things were looking hectic. The receptionist called me to choose colors 5 minutes later (not 15, yay!). Of course I picked hot pink and even hotter pink. I sat down and in no time flat, Tiptoe's estheticians had transformed my nails from backwater Appalachia to urban San Francisco. Weee! The mani-pedi is $50 - I don't do gel, so I don't know how much that costs. It takes about an hour because they tag team your nails and toes. You know I love efficiency. You have to leave tips in cash, so be prepared. Parking is plentiful but can be tough to find during peak hours.  Overall, a great experience! Went to Tiptoes today as it's in my neighborhood and my nails needed a little TLC. I always get gels. They're the only way your manicure will last - seriously. If your (regular) manicure chips it's not the salon's fault - that's just how it is. I'm very picky about how my gels look - I like it to look like a regular manicure, which I think can sometimes be hard to achieve. Tiptoes did it!My manicurist was incredibly gentle and sweet, and I felt relaxed enough to close my eyes. She actually tended to my cuticles and buffed my nails before the gel manicure. I love this part and sometimes it gets left out of gel manicures! My nails turned out beautiful! My manicure finished up with a hand massage with lotion and hot towel. Yessssss. I was really surprised with how nice this place was. We went on a whim and were taken aback by how pleasant the atmosphere was inside. They also managed to fit us in despite not having an appointment. They were very friendly and thorough. I had my french mani/pedi done at TipToes nearly a month ago. The service was great...hot tea by my side and chick flick on the flat screen across from me! I had one of the best foot massages too. When it was all done, I couldn't help but keep looking at my french mani/pedi and how perfect and natural they looked! I'm quite far from San Francisco and had to settle for a nail spa near me a month later. I'm very particular with services and notice where spas or salons usually leave me wanting. I am thrilled to have found TipToes. I visited the spa for the first time yesterday for a mani/pedi and had a great experience. Everyone was genuinely friendly and easy-going. The kind owner, Howard, brought me a nice cold drink, and there were plenty of new magazines to skim through. I relaxed immediately after snuggling into the comfy chairs for my pedicure. The spa attendant's work was excellent. At most salons I've visited recently, the attendants are in a hurry to finish so that they can churn through more clients. My TipToes attendant was quite the opposite - she was very thorough and gentle and spent time massaging, scrubbing and pampering me. The results were lovely. Not only did it feel good, but it also looked great. In fact, this was one of the best pedicures I've had in a long time. I was so pleased with the work that I stayed for a manicure. I absolutely enjoyed my services at Tiptoes. I tried the mani/pedi plus and when that turned out wonderfully ... I went ahead and did some waxing instead of running across town to see my usual waxer. It was a gamble but I wanted to find a place where I can get all my things done at one place. Yes ... I finally found my place. I've tried here and there but never quite found the right one stop shop .... until now ... yes! My nails look really good and it's been a week and my mani is still intact and my toes looks damn good. My waxing experience was excellent ... a great surprise. Eyebrows look perfect and I tell you I've had a couple of terrible experiences so I was quite unsure to try. I'm happy I did. I love Tiptoes ... I surely do! I've been going to tiptoes for the last few months and everytime i've had superb customer service AND they do a really wonderful job on my nails and my waxing. I usually get my brazilian done from someone else but she's on maternity leave so one day when I was there for my regular mani/pedi, I decided to try Kathy. The owners rave about her so I said why not??? We'll I'm so glad I did. Sorry to my old waxer but Kathy won me over. I've been getting brazilians done for quite sometime and it's never a comfortable thing for me to do. But Kathy has made that task a bit easier. Not only is she painless BUT QUICK which is GREAT! Had to get a manicure and pedicure before I leave for my business trip. My nails look good, cuticles trimmed well, and nails buffed to a shine. I am a guy who is a fanatic about my nails. PLUS my girl likes clean immaculate hands/feet/nails so it's a must! Tiptoes did a great job and I will be back. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 just because it's not in my neighborhood but it's well worth the 10-15 minute drive if that. And I like that it has it's own parking lot. Works for me. Myself and one guy friend and a girl friend decided to try out tiptoes a few weeks ago. We all had a manicure and pedicure plus with paraffin. My guy friend totally loved it. His nails were buffed to a shine and raved about the service all day. Me and my girl friend found our NEW nail place. We all enjoyed sitting together watching Devil Wears Prada on the flat screen while sipping our tea. I loved the set up. Not cramped but still very cozy. Well I was doubtful at first just because of the perks that came with the services and for a basic mani/pedi only $40. I read the reviews and had to try. I must admit, the place is decorated really well. Feng shui ... I felt at peace and relaxed. The owners really did a good job with presenting the place. AND the service was above and beyond what I expected. It's a steal for what they are charging. Even if they raise the price, I would definitely return. I loved the feel and most of all my nails looked great ... even after a week which I purposely waited to write this review to see how my nails held up. I've been converted. Sorry to my regular place which is a bit of a drive for me on the other end of SOMA. I really fell for Tiptoes :) And it saves me a 10-15 min drive which I would also have had to fight for parking! I had the best pedicure. I'm a chocoholic so I chose the chocolate pedi and it was chocolate heaven. Everything smelled so good ... the lotion and the scrub ... all ... just like chocolate. Tiptoes is the best.... so relaxing! This is by far, one of San Francisco's best nail salons. They offer a great selection of nail polish colors, the technicians are very concerned with detail and the setting is incredible. I will definitely go back to TipToes and I intend to bring my friends and my husband! Next time I'm going to try their ""Grape-Crush"" pedicure in which your feet are scrubbed and soaked in red wine. A couple of friends recommended this new nail spa. They said it was clean and the mani/pedi's were fantastic. So I decided to try it one day eventhough I'm a regular at another place. Am I glad I did! Tiptoes is much more convenient for me since it's in the neighborhood and I used to go all across town. Price is great and the manicurists were very detailed with their work which is very important to me. I hate it when my cuticles are hardly touched and massage is just a gentle rubbing motion. I'm a guy who gets his nails done regularly and I'm not ashamed of it! My girlfriend told me about her new ""find"" so I had to try. Met the owners who gave me 10% off eventhough I had not brought in the discount card. My nails were buffed to a shine and the massage was very good. The ladies who did my feet and hands were nice and totally concentrated on working on me. They DIDN'T talk much which I enjoyed and DIDN'T speak another language, not like the other places i've been to. I always felt like when they did speak their native language to each other, they were talking about you while smiling at you. Suspect! I made a trip to tiptoes nail spa. For one, I had to try it just for the name itself ... so cute. And wow ... what a great experience. I had a mani and pedi .. just a basic service but I was treated like royalty. Greeted as I entered, was offered a beverage AND a warm shoulder wrap ... lovely!! Watched a movie on the flat screen. AND can I say, the massage was so wonderful .. I had to purchase more minutes to extend. It wasn't the rub lightly up and down your arm and legs. It was truly a good massage. Unfortunately, this salon in a convenient location is not being run professionally. On my recent visit, the only two individuals who could take payments had left the shop for ""5"" minutes which was actually 20 minutes, and six women were waiting at the reception desk to pay or to be seated for a manicure. When the women returnd at 3PM with their lunches in hand they straightened out the mess at the front desk. I was one of the women waiting. I will not return.
