This is my second review on a nail salon in which I'll address their speaking Vietnamese to each other while with customers. The other salon was Nails in Carlsbad where the women did chit chat not knowing that I could understand them, but that's all it was. They're kind, they also spoke English well, and did a great job. I can't say the same about this salon. I'm asked 90% of the time I get my nails done what nationality I am. They didn't ask me here, which is totally okay (it usually creates a shit ton of small talk about my life that I don't care to have). But they did talk about me without knowing I could understand 75% of what they were saying. - They said one of the colors I chose was ugly. I wanted a really dark, almost black metallic purple for my nails (my favorite color), and a dark metallic green for an accent nail (my boyfriend's favorite color). My manicurist said in Vietnamese to my pedicurist, pointing to the green, "So ugly. Why do people choose that color, it's so ugly!" I'm not mistaken. I tried not to stare at the bottle as though I didn't know what they were saying. How discouraging though. I grew up with a mom who was also very vocally critical so she made me feel like a little girl again, haha. When she started to paint my nails with the purple, she discovered the color was almost out. So I told her I didn't want the green if I couldn't have that purple.- My pedicurist said that I trimmed my toenails down so much that she couldn't file them. Totally owning up to it, I really hate having long toenails and will trim them as far down as I can. My only problem with this is that I simply asked her to file them, and she complained to her coworker. If you can't file them because they're too short, tell me. Don't complain and go through the motions. Jesus. - My manicurist also made a comment about my nails being in pretty bad shape. I didn't understand it completely because I'm not 100% fluent, but I could tell by the tone and how she was even whispering (not knowing I'm Vietnamese) that she found my cuticles somewhat abhorrent. My pedicurist might have even agreed by saying it appeared that I worked on my feet all day. Again, not completely sure, but I left the salon kind of embarrassed. She's right. I'm a hostess. I'm literally on my feet all day and walk at least 3 miles every day in uncomfortable non-slip shoes. I haven't had a manicure since May because I can't afford it. The only reason I went to their salon is because I just got a second job. Never comment on someone's appearance when you don't know about their life or financial situation. - Since the dark metallic purple I wanted was almost empty, I asked her to choose another dark purple. Mind you, I said "almost black." She chose a medium, 90s grape shade of purple that looked ridiculous to me even after she applied the second coat. Asian people love their tacky colors, I'm not kidding. I was just so disheartened by the time she started polishing that I just went with it. She did a good job on my manicure otherwise. Thank god I didn't go with a gel. - The signage on the storefront says "Spa pedicure + manicure $30." For some reason my total was $31. Haha. I even specified I wanted the $30 deal. Maybe my cuticles were that bad. As if talking shit about my feet and hands wasn't bad enough, fine, charge me an extra dollar. It's just a dollar, but the principle.. oh well. I still tipped them $6 even though I kind of felt like shit when I left. =( Read Less
