Absolutely horrible. I had acrylics, and asked the lady to soak them off. She soaked them for a couple of minutes and ripped them off. When I complained about the pain she was like almost done. Not ok. Then on top of it, the gel she put on, peeled within the day. Absolutely horrible. I could've done it better myself and saved $35. Would NOT recommend to anyone. Started going there about 6 months ago. Things were ok until as of late. Last three appts. First appointment I made in advance however had to wait 45 minutes. I offered to come back because they were really busy. No no , just a few more minutes. So 45 minutes past my schedule appointment I sat down. During the appointment there were two rude offensive customers that the employee thought nothing of even after I said how offensive they were. Next appointment pink/white fill $25.00. The gal nicked me so bad my finger wouldn't stop bleeding. Note to self.... she was using a pretty worn nail file that she pulled out of her drawer. Third and last appointment. Pink/white fill. The gal nicked me again!!! Same used nail file. She only filled the pink and said white next time. I asked how much ? $30.00. I said why $30? Especially since you only filled the pink. First she said because that's the price. Then I said no last was $23.00 or $25.00!!  Beware people.. also licenses expired 12/31/17.  Status reads close on the business bureau. Read Less

I keep trying to give this place more chances but today was my final visit. They rush, and are pretty sloppy. Today, my gel mani and pedi were rushed through so they could tend to a 6 year old birthday party. My leg massage was 1 minute long, no foot massage, and my arm massage was under 30 seconds each (I literally watched the clock.) she painted over the corners of my fingernails which leaves an annoying feeling when the gel dries. I pointed out that it was messy and she said she would clean at the end, but it was still sloppy looking. Great prices . Cindy is amazing , I will only go to her because of her attention to detail.Only complaint is that they will talk abut you in an Asian dialect. And the shorter elderly woman is EXTREMELY rude. Will never go to the salon if she is there. Read Less

I have been going here for about 10 years. Helen and her staff are always so warm and friendly. Helen does a great job on my nails and Cindy is always ready to accept any 'design' challenge I bring in for the holidays throughout the year. I definitely recommend them, their pricing is also very good ! I always feel like I am visiting with family when I am at the salon. I have been going to Essential Beauty Skin and Nails Salon since I moved to the East Bay in May of 2015.  Their services are fantastic and I have saved many dollars compared to what I used to pay for the same services on the peninsula.  Helen does an excellent and thorough job on my pink and white nails, as Katy does with my hair.  She even will use a product to color it that I found from the internet that does not irritate or make my scalp break out as products with lots of ammonia and PPD (Para-phenylenediamine) do.  I have had all of the women who work there do pedicures for me, and they all have done a great job.  Highly recommend the deluxe pedi with hot stone massage!  i have see other yelp reviews where people are bothered by the staff speaking to each other in their native language (Vietnamese).  This does not bother me in the least.  They are kind and speak to me in English, but I love hearing their language.  The biggest complaint about moving to the East Bay from SF and the peninsula for me is the amazing lack of diversity by comparison.  There is usually someone available within 30 minutes of my call for an appointment during the week.  Naturally busier on weekends.  Very clean and inviting.  Facials also amazing!!   I love going here and highly recommend it. After frequenting this salon I was very disappointed my last visit. The woman that worked on me gave below the bare minimum. After the 15 second leg massage she left and came back 5 minutes later insisting the polish was dry. It wasn't! Smudged then was very very kind, to a nauseating point when it was time to pay. I am a generous tipper, I did not leave a tip.A woman that started her pedi before me was still seated and receiving EXCELLENT care.I will go back but make sure the person taking care of me is not her. So I've never had my nails done there, but I've gotten haircuts for my boys (4 and 6) there.  It's half the price of the special kid hair salon we used to go to and the haircuts there were superior.  My friend's son got his hair cut there, too, and I loved his cool soccer-style cut.  No toys, but my kids were happy enough with a lollipop.  Great deal! Ugh! I will never ever ever go here again. The only reason I came here in the first place is because I was looking for a place close by that had pedicure chairs for children (I wanted to have a mother - daughter outing for my birthday). Literally the worst pedicure I have ever gotten. The lady who did my pedicure had her head looking over her shoulder to watch TV the whole time while half ass massaging my leg/feet with one hand. I mean, I guess my nails turned out painted pretty,  but if I wanted a nice paint job,  I could have done that myself. I was looking for a nice relaxing massage with it, and I did not get that.The lady who was doing my daughter's mani/pedi was SO freakin' rude. My daughter accidently smudged one of her nails, and the lady freaked out. And then she started talking to the others in Chinese,  obviously talking about my daughter. She had this gross, rude, mean face on for the rest of the time. CALM THE HELL DOWN, LADY! My daughter is 3.5 years old and it was an accident. My daughter felt so bad about it too. I literally wanted to slap that lady!! Ugh.Not to mention it's only been 2 hours and my toenail polish is chipping!  Ugh!So ya... terrible. Won't be coming back here EVER. Had a great experience getting pedis here with my 4yo daughter. I called before we came in that day, but they do take walk-ins. Everyone there was super friendly and took great care of us. They have smaller spa pedi chairs for kids and my daughter loved it. She ended up getting a mani/pedi with flowers for $15. I got a pedi with flowers for $27. I went into this place only because I couldn't wait the extra day to go the lady that usually does my nails -- what a huge mistake!The lady that worked on me did not know what she was doing, plain and simple.  I have been getting fills for over 20 years now and right away, I could tell that she was very uncomfortable.  I asked her how long she had been doing nails and she said one year.  In the middle of my fill, I got up and told the owner that I was done -- I'd pay for my service but I was leaving -- I didn't want to sit through it anymore - my nails were soooooo bad.  The owner said she would take over -- and she did.  While she did a better job than the other lady (who only works for her on Sundays), the end result was extremely poor.  The nail polish she put on bled through to my cuticles -- and she didn;t even bother cleaning it up afterwards!I decided it was best to skip the planned eyebrow waxing!Be careful -- these people do a very poor job! I walked in and they took us fairly quickly. So sweet!! They have the cutest kids pedicure chairs with these little pink bears for the head rest. And so sweet and kind to her. Painted her nails and toes and a FREE flower on her big toes for 7 bucks! Sweetness. Wide variety of colors. Very accommodating. Two ladies and one man. What a find. If you follow my reviews & lists - you know I am a sucker for a great pedicure! I decided to try this place on a whim, and am so happy I did.I was a walk-in, and there were no questions. They were able to take me immediately. The atmosphere is open, fresh & clean. They have full service massage, wax & mani pedi. They also have some ADORABLE kids pedi chairs. I thought about asking if I could sit in one, but am pretty sure there is a fat ass limit!The pedi was FANTASTIC. All the areas that places typically fall short for me (i.e. massage) were fantastic. I received a longer than usual massage, no rubber gloves THANK GOD. I also sprang for the honey scrub... this was divine & leisurely (only a $3 add).Price: $25.00 & I left a $5 tip. Started getting my nails done by Helen when she worked in SF when i became a teenager (I'm now 25) and thrilled i found her again, and only 25 minutes from where i live now.  She takes her time and shapes then so my fingers look perfect.  She's also the best person to go for waxing, specifically eyebrows.  My eyebrows looked the best when she does then and when she moved out of SF, i literally went hairy rather than go someone that waxed them to tiny pencils. I went here when I got married and they convinnced me to try gel instead of acrylic for my french tips.  I got married the next day and my nails were disasterous....I of course did not have time to fix them, so the pictures of our hands and wedding bands were fugly!I went there the next day to get them fixed because my maid of honor had paid for the service and they were horrendous.  In short, don't get gel, they start chipping within 12 hours!Acrylics and mani pedi were fine.
