This used to be a place I would go when i was in the area even if sometimes I was not happy- Last 2 times I go the worst experience! My nails destroyed due to the lady filing them too much AND they don't speak English - It took 4 months to recover. Dirty and stuffy place, negative atmosphere, flies all over. I've been coming Ellinwood for well over 6 years and can definitely say the quality of their work and customer service has decreased over the past couple of years. I tried to stick it out in hopes that things would improve but I can't justify spending money here anymore, unfortunately. This most recent time, I made an appointment for 6:15, knowing they close at 7. I verified at the time that 45 minutes would be enough time for a full set and they assured me it would. I showed up early and had my color picked out by 6:15. They seated me and the nail tech started doing my full set. They were pretty busy and I commented and the tech said 3 people had called in sick....she was clearly stressed out. Within 10 minutes of my nails getting started, 3 walk in appointments came in. So with 30 minutes until closing and no free nail techs, the lead tech said they'd have to wait buy they'd still be able to fit them in...WHAT?! I didn't understand how that'd be possible...and that's because it wasn't. The pressure of 3 extra people waiting resulted in my nail tech FLYING through my nails. She skipped a coat of gel polish on one nail, which I pointed out. She seemed annoyed but fixed it anyways. I left feeling rushed, with nails I was far from happy with. They were different thicknesses, shapes, and had  varying acrylic applications. She didn't clean under the tips so hardened acrylic was stuck under the tips...just all bad. I even came back the next day to get things fixed and still walked out unhappy. Another frustrating trend is that they have a really high turnaround of nail techs. I've never seen the same person there for longer than a couple of months and it's not surprising if they have a habit of over booking. I used to love coming here! They did such a great job! I haven't been here in probably a year because there was a male manicurist, not Tony, that was super creepy! He made me feel super uncomfortable so I stopped going! Fast forward a year, I went in today to get a gel manicure and regular pedicure! I could have done a WAY better job doing my own nails at home! My gel polish looks awful! Bubbles on my nails, not filed evenly, and the woman did not polish all the way to my cuticle line so it looks like my nails are growing out! It looks like some of the polish is lifting already and it probably won't even last a week ): It's always so awkward saying something when other people are in the salon and I'm not trying to sit there for another hour and a half for her to fix my nails! Great place for you to get your nails done with quality. Clean fast service Tiffany is amazing at nails and her eyebrow wax! They offer water or sometimes tea which is nice! Parking is pain but other then that this is my go to place to go where I know I will like my nails after! Clean and nice space I would go on a weekday of course! Read Less

I don't even write yelps. But if I can save someone from getting the tops of their fingernails filed off like mine then here's a yelp.This is by no exaggeration the worst service I've ever had. I went twice...first to get gel nails...which they painted the wrong color at first and I guess thought I wouldn't notice??Second to get the gel nails taken off...which she does by using an electric file. She filed of the top layer of my fingernails and cut them so short and disgusting looking that I am basically waiting for them to heal before I do anything to them. I have been to many Nail Spa's and none compares to Ellinwood Nail Spa. The technicians are friendly, respectful of your quiet time. It's clean and I never had an fungus infection. They open a sterile package every time I get my mani/pedi. I've seen them clean the chairs after every client. I get my nails done by Tiffany and my pedi from Linda. I highly recommend it! Read Less

I've been coming to this Salon for over 5 years every three weeks, so I have a lot of experience in with the Ellinwood Nail Spa.  If you make an appointment it's better than stopping in because you will be taken first.  I get gel white tips and have my nails done by Tiffany, who has been there longer than I have been going there!  She's amazing and she's the one that manages the staff and speaks perfect English.  She goes above and beyond to make every customer happy.My favorite for pedicure's is Rose, she gives the most amazing foot and leg massage, I always request her when I make an appointment!  She is very courteous and works hard to give you a great pedicure experience!  Love her!As far as nail spas, I've been to my fair share and language is always a barrier, as the best nail artists are Vietnamese.  I do sometimes see customers have trouble communicating with their nail artists that don't speak English as well, but my experience is Tiffany has ears all over her head and listens to all customers and steps in to communicate to the artist what the customer is asking for.  She's very attentive and on top of her shop.The prices at this salon are very reasonable, I would just suggest that you make an appointment and be SURE you leave your phone number with it in case there is a scheduling problem, so they can call you.The reason I keep coming back to this Salon is because the WAY Tiffany does my nails, the prep and application of products that keep the nail attached are so good, my nails stay on for 3 weeks!  If I ever have an issue of a nail breaking or coming lose (2x in 5 years!) I go in and Tiffany takes care of it immediately.  I have never had my nails stay and be done the way I ask, consistently, from any other Salon. I highly recommend this salon to my friends all the time and will continue to go here as long as Tiffany and Rose work there!P.S.  I have also been having my eye brows waxed by Tiffany at this salon for years, and she's every good!  I've never had an issue with shape, burning or skin irritations.  Ask for Tiffany and tell her JENA sent you! I've been going to Ellinwood for over 10yrs and absolutely love it. When I go to have my nails done I want to relax and not feel forced into chit chat and every technician at Ellinwood respects that. In addition to them letting me have a moment of well deserved silence their work is impeccable and at an amazing price! My wife had a manicure and pedicure in this place and she had a sub-par service. The people seems friendly enough, but did not really communicate with you properly. The service was, in my opinion, average and the material they used in comparison to other places in San Francisco, according to my wife, was not the same.In addition to all of this, on our way out, when we were about to pay and leave there was no one there and everyone else had a customer. They didn't sanitize anything they used on me. The guy clipped his own cuticle and then mine without sanitizing it my nails are all different sizes and my oranges are different colors. I would find another shop. Read Less

I am completely unhappy, my nails look like shit, I had tony as my nail technician and he is HORRIBLE!!!! I arrived when they opened, as soon as I sat down tony got a call from his cell phone and was yelling in his language to the person who was on speaker and was yelling as well, completely unprofessional! As he went on doing my nails I noticed I didn't like how thick he was making my tips on my nails, I asked him to make the tips a little thinner, he preceded to yell in his language at me!!! My first visit was on 2/27/2014.And this review is for their former nail technician, Helen.I found Ellinwood Nails through yelp, looking specifically for someone who could manage a pedi with in-growns due to an unfortunate event during basketball conditioning back in high school where both my big toe nails came off and grew back with in-growns.Yelp had a coupon and I saw reviews on their technician, Helen.. so I booked and went!  They offered me tea and/or bottled water upon seating me at a pedi station with the massager, controller and perfect temperature foot soak.The music was 90s based, lots of R&B and I loved it.  Helen was pleasant, went off of my vibe of when I wanted to talk (I usually like to relax and stay quiet.. you know, enjoy the pampering and massage).  Her English was good, no language barrier for once.Their instruments were sealed and a new package opened with each customer.  I cannot comment too much on their colors as I typically do a french tip (less maintenance as I don't frequent nail shops regularly, and Helen and I shared the same day off so it was hard to catch her).  She moved with ease and was very meticulous.. I never felt a thing and the pressure from the in-grown would be gone with her magic.I was able to see Helen about 6 times or so during the past two years.. mainly right before my vacations/trips.Call me selfish, but back then I didn't want everyone to know about Helen's talent so I avoided writing my review.  But regardless, she was well-known and often booked!  It saddened me during my last attempt to call and make it appointment as I found she no longer works at Ellinwood Nails :(I've had my nails done by two other technicians as well, not as good as Helen but definitely better than other nail salons I've been to.**If anyone knows where Helen went, please let me know!!** Read Less

They are very accommodating it was a last minute appointment for me they took me in I got out in a reasonable amount of time they did a very fantastic job on my nails and my eyebrows to they make you feel very welcome there and walk ins are available I suggest if you need to get something done at the last minute you go there they offer you something to drink there very polite I would definitely go back there Read Less

I will never go to this salon again. They are too expensive and not worth it at all. I paid 38 for a full gel set. The woman that did my nails was too busy talking and answering her phone to pay attention to what she was doing. My nails didn't even last two weeks because they started to chip and peel. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Consider yourself warned.Read Less
