I'm pretty disappointed in the longevity of my gel manicure. My appointment was on Friday the day before my wedding and my gel started lifting and one finger it completely came off on Saturday. While this nail shop does a good job, BEWARE of all the hidden costs, they don't advertise that they add a 10% surcharge to all their services, and on top of that they add $10 to remove gel and $20 to add gel, if you have no problem spending $120 for a manicure and pedicure, then give it a try, but it's a complete rip off compared to other nail shops that do the same quality job. I started coming to this nail salon when I was pregnant, because of the more natural products they offer, and I just kept coming back because I really like a couple of the nail technicians. So I can say I've been coming here for almost 2 years. I booked an appointment for this morning for me and one of my best friends for a "Moms Day Out." This was her first (and probably last) time trying this place. We were maybe 12 min late. I'm usually never late and my regular nail technician, Thao (whom I LOVE), can attest to that. I got a call as I was parking and let them know I parked, and I'm walking over right away. We walk in and these front desk people just have the most annoyed and can't be bothered looks on their faces. Hey I'm sorry that life happens and I was 12 min late, but I guess being a regular and usually never late doesn't matter. When I saw those faces I definitely didn't feel like being all "I'm sorry for being late." I don't know these new people at the front, but really it's not the end of the world. I felt bad about being late, but your job as a front desk person is still to have a pleasant attitude. Also, we were told since we were late the technicians might have to skip massaging or something to make up for time. I think I might have been late like once before a long time ago, but I was never treated with this type of attitude. I've had to at times wait up to 20 min for my appt to start so just relax ppl. I'm not paying $100 for a mani/pedi to get grief.Our actual service was perfectly great. Like I said the nail technicians are really nice and do a good job. They didn't skimp on anything. I like quite a few of them there. Also my mani & pedi was done in like 20-25 min.Just one more note, and maybe it's cause we were late, but we were not even asked if we wanted something to drink which usually happens. I saw other appts getting teas (probably because they were on time and not being hurried out), so I asked my nail technician if we could get some tea and she had to call one of the front desk people over to request it. And tbh, I almost didn't want to order the tea because what if they spit in it?! And just to be fair, the one girl at the end when we were paying was nice. She was there at the beginning too, and was the nicer out of the three to begin with. I don't know who a couple of these new people at the front are, but maybe some customer service training or meditation classes might help with their "stress." I went to Olive & June for 'The Chrissy' (a gel mani). The salon was extremely clean and cutely decorated, and the check-in/ check-out procedure was very efficient. It was really nice to be in such a pretty environment with such friendly people.I had the lovely Sam as my nail technician, and she was super friendly and talented -- and very fun to talk to! I've had nail technicians file my nails too aggressively in the past, but Sam was very gentle which made my experience very enjoyable. She also helped me pick out a color that would look good with my skin tone. The entire process was also very fast -- their gel mani curing lamps use a combination of LED and UV lights. Extremely disappointed with my experience here. I LOVE olive + June's Instagram and have been following it from Seattle for about a year. Was in town visiting my in laws and stumbled across the salon when visiting Philz and absolutely needed to try it out. So excited that I convinced a friend to try it with me. I love anywhere that has great customer service and the form they ask you to fill out before seemed to be a great idea bc it would tell the technician what you cared about. I get my nails done primarily for cuticle care and despite putting that on my form, my technician didn't spend any time on it. 2 of my nails were broken and she didn't seem to go out of her way to make it strong. Instead stated that it was still weak and I needed to be careful unless I wanted to pay more for her to strengthen it. I usually go to my average neighborhood nail salon and will say that olive and June service falls short of your average nail salon. For almost 2x the price, I would think that it would be that much better.Also $10 to remove your gel nails? Really? May just unfollow their Instagram as well Read Less

I was in town from Georgia and wanted to get a manicure with nail art while I was here. Made an appointment, showed the picture, and her first go at it made it look like a kindergarten fingerpainting. It was just flowers, nothing too difficult, but after two tries it just looked horrible. I tried to be nice, and then found a more simple flower from the Olive and June instagram because I thought that would be easier, and surely that would be doable because it was from their own Instagram page, but it still looked absolutely horrible. I told them I was unhappy with how it turned out, and I was still charged almost $70 for the manicure. There’s even a piece of lint in one of my gel nails. Horrible service, zero talent. I was very hopeful about this place because It looked so cute and modern in there with a cool selection of polish from high end brands. The place was also clean which is important. Sadly, the service was ok at best. Not bad but nothing special. Basic mani/ pedicure with one patched nail cost $65.00 which I think was high when you consider there was no exfoliating scrub and they massaged both feet at the same time. No massage on the arms at all, just hands. So all was very basic. If they offer other less basic options, no one told me about them or showed me a menu. Nice staff, very clean place. Also, very over priced. They do manicures and pedicures on you're natural nails only. My nails looked nice but uneven and nothing spectacular. I do them at home and have better, longer lasting results. My pedi lasted 1 week and mani 2 days! The cost $110. If you're the type of person who doesnt mind the cost and follows the "trendy" places simply because its the cool thing to do right now, then this place is right up your alley. After stalking their instagram for what seemed to be months, I finally decided to try out Olive & June in Pasadena. Location: I found the salon inside the Commons place off of South Lake Avenue. It's a little hard to find if you're unfamiliar with the area, but Olive & June is right alongside Drybar, Soulcycle, Lemonade, and a few other shops. Parking can be found in the structure behind the salon, or street parking off of South Lake Ave. (Both paid parking and meter parking.) Service:The staff is always friendly. My nail technician is Rieko, who I've stuck with since my first time there is very detail oriented and always treats my nails with great care. I always go in with request on colors as well as ideas of designs and she's always been able to find just the right color i'm looking for and works with me on nail designs. I usually get a gel manicure, which lasts me over 4 weeks with no chipping or peeling! I'm sure walk-ins are accepted, however, I make an appointment so I know that I won't have to wait. They require your credit card number for first appointments as a part of your cancellation policy. (They don't charge anything on the card unless you cancel your appointment or are paying for your service.) You're also able to tip (monetary value or percentage) when you're paying at the end. Price: Be prepared, the prices aren't in comparison to a Vietnamese nail salon. The prices are listed on the Olive & June website, so before going in you have a sense of how much your service will cost you. If you want to do particular designs it will cost extra. I believe they charge on design per nail. I usually ask how much extra the design will cost before getting serviced. If you want to have your gels removed they charge extra as well. Overall I would recommend this salon but be prepared for the tab. Definitely worth the trip when you want to treat yourself! Looking forward to returning again. Read Less

I was at olive and June yesterday night celebrating a pre- bachelorette for one of my friends. Pros:-decor is nice - nail techs are friendly - lots of great brand names to choose from for colorCons:- small area- parking is difficult - prices are on the higher side- can't split checks - rude front desk So overall I would say olive and June is a 3 star place. However the super rude front desk girl bumps them down to a 2. Her attitude towards us was basically that she didn't care. She didn't offer us tea, and was super short during the whole interaction. I even asked her how much one of the mini sun oil bottles were and she didn't even answer my question. Olive and June for the price should have 5 star service all around, its sad to see that they wouldn't have 5 star service especially at the front desk, and it's a shame because from the atmosphere and how the salon is set up, you can see that the owner really cares about her business. I want to love this place and give it a higher rating. I keep coming back and giving it chances, but honestly it's a hit or miss. The last 3 times it has really been a miss. I don't ever request a particular nail tech, as I don't come here often enough (I come by maybe once every 2 months when I want to splurge a bit), but when I do book it's basically for the atmosphere at his point. The prices are STEEP, but I do feel the interior design of the place and the location are a big part of the reason why the prices are high. Which I get by all means. However, this is now the 3rd time in a row my manicure has chipped the day after my appointment. The technicians are usually pretty detail oriented but on several recent occasions now, I've gotten a very "annoyed" vibe from several of the technicians when I simply request something as basic as getting the nail polish as close to the cuticle as possible. I will say that the nail techs are mostly where I've gotten a hit or miss experience. Sometimes the techs are super friendly and attentive, however other times I've felt they can be a bit brash/annoyed.I've been to the Santa Monica location and like it much better but unfortunately it's just too far for me.I really believe that for the amount that you pay, the service should be better. Inspired by something I saw on their Instagram page, I finally decided to give O&J a try. I went in with a few pictures and a color palette in mind, and let the technician (Thuy) decide how to bring it all together.I opted for the Olive manicure - with gel and nail art on 2 nails, it came to $105 (without tip). I knew it was likely to be around that from reading the reviews here, so the price wasn't a shock - but I was still glad I didn't get art on each nail or it would've been a lot more. Thuy really took her time on the delicate flowers, and stopped often to make sure I was happy with how things were turning out. There are some other expensive nail-art salons in LA that probably offer better value for money, but can you call them at 2pm and make a 4pm appointment? Probably not. The appointment also took around 90 minutes in the end, another reason the price is (just about) understandable. The decor is chic and simple, the place is very clean, and the people working there seemed happy.  Overall I'm really pleased, but will probably save O&J for special occasions. Read Less
