The women were nice and hospitable. The seating there is comfortable and the accommodations are nice as well. The one thing I could not overlook is how long it took to finish my nails. Great experience! I got a pedicure from Lauren and a gel French manicure from Wendy. Both were excellent and detail oriented. I finished off with a heavenly foot and neck massage. Definitely recommend this place. Very reasonable priced as well. This is not an upscale place, but it was just as good. Made a last minute appt, here from out of town. I have no regular nail salon but wanted to get a mani/pedi before I left ofna trip so I stopped by this salon since it is on my route home.  BAD MISTAKE!  I should have yelped a few salons and not just walked into an unknown business.  There was only what appeared to be a regular senior citizen client in the salon when I walked in.  I was pressed for time and mentioned this and asked if I could get a mani/pedi within my one hour time frame and was immediately assured this was possible and was seated.  The manicurist mumbled her name and started on my pedi.  She clipped my toenails VERY close and later I realized she had clipped so short my toes hurt.  The nail clipping was not really necessary since I had had a podiatrist appointment just days before this visit and my podiatrist had clipped them at that time.    The pedi was OK but took almost 45 minutes and I noticed no top drying coat was used so the nail polish smeared easily and I removed it and reapplied myself about a day or so later.   Once the pedi was done the mani started and almost immediately the manicurist cut my cuticle so deeply I started bleeding profusely.  She told me to go in the bathroom and wash the blood and then she tried putting some blue antiseptic on it and a bandaid.  She wanted to proceed although at this point I was of the opinion the addition of nail polish would not be good and told her I was done.  She didn't apologize, show any concern or remorse but told me I owed for the manicure.  I would have protested but by this time I was running late for my appointment  and so done with the rough, unprofessional treatment that I paid and left.  My cuticle bled for most of the afternoon and took a full two weeks to fully heal!     My experience was expensive AND painful.  From other reviews it appears some of the staff are experienced and professional but I strongly suggest if you are considering going to this salon you ask for one of the manicurists reviewed by name and hope for the best! This was my first time at Mangosteen. I walked in this morning for a gel manicure and was taken in right away. Wendy was really great! She took time with my nails, made sure the shape was what I wanted, and even asked me how much I wanted my cuticles cut. My manicure turned out perfectly and was pretty affordable for Palo Alto at $30. The salon itself was clean, nicely decorated, and didn't have that horrible chemical smell of other places I've been to.I don't get manicures all that often, but when I do, I'll definitely go to Mangosteen again. I've been using Yelp for years, but have never felt compelled to review anything until now. I feel very strongly about my bad experience at this salon and hope that this review will prevent others from getting hurt.I went into the salon a couple of weeks ago to have my acrylics removed, which I've had done several times before over the course of many years. The woman (don't know her name), who was removing my nails, was doing so in a VERY rough manner, lifting and literally ripping them off my natural nails. After a couple of nails, it was getting very painful, and I am not bothered easily. Before I know it, she attempts another nail and rips it so hard that my natural nail is torn off my nail bed half way down. I was bleeding profusely and in a world of pain. Of course at that point I'm beside myself because my nail is seriously damaged. The woman tried to play it off like it was no big deal as I was crying in the chair. She attempted to put nail glue in my wound to "fix the nail" and had to tell her no. She didn't even apologize until the manager came over.They were so generous as to waive the cost of nail removal (gee thanks), but I still had to pay for my pedicure, if you can believe that. All I know is that I came in looking forward to relaxing, getting my acrylics off, and having a nice gel manicure done. I left with my nails looking worse than ever and a band aid. I understand that mistakes happen, but over the many years I've gotten my nails done regularly at countless salons, this was a first, and it was unacceptable. On top of everything, the manager did almost nothing to make appropriate reparations. And it wasn't the first time that I was treated roughly by the same nail artist. The time before, she was very rude, telling me to relax and stop moving my hands (even though I was completely relaxed and limp) and twisting my fingers and wrist in very uncomfortable positions.Safe to say, after all of this, I will not be going back. Today I got the worst manicure I've ever gotten. I came in with really long acrylics, for a fill. It took 2 manicurists to attempt to make my coffin shaped nails straight. I say attempt because neither of them was able to file my nails straight at the top and evenly (the nails on opposite hands did not match up in length). Seriously. How can you not file nails? I left with ridiculously small thumb nails from their many attempts. I'm still pissed at how much length I lost and how small my thumbs are compared to the rest. I didn't even get a color because I came home to fix them myself. When getting my nails done, I don't expect to have to ask multiple times for them to be even, or for them to look clean. Reading reviews? Choose Mangosteen!When I pulled out half-french design from instagram, I was not expecting it to come anywhere close to the photo I presented. Oh boy, the nail designer killed it. The photos don't do justice. I was so happy at the tweaks Mangosteen made: drawing gold lines instead of using stickers, adding a cubic jewel. The designer doing my nails saw that I was very excited with the jewel and offered to give me another one for free :) She definitely prioritizes customer satisfaction. Absolutely amazing! Lily does a fantastic job and I've never been more satisfied with my gel manicure. I have very sensitive skin and almost always get pricked at other nail salons so finding a place that wasn't going to slice my skin open was my main priority. Lily is gentle, quick, precise and professional. The salon is clean and the ladies are all very nice and friendly. They also take walk-ins and same day appointments. I used to like this place but when the owner wasn't here I was quickly treated like a second class citizen. It was clear I was the only one who looked like me and this is why it happened. I brought in a picture of a gel design that's pretty popular in Korea, unsure if the nail technicians here could pull it off. She worked really hard and was even courteous about changing a color last minute even after the nail had dried. As a result I had beautiful nails and got so many compliments. I came in today at 5:30 after calling them at 4:30 to make sure it was okay. When I got there, they were very friendly and accommodated me as fast as they could.I was blessed with the sweetest woman Queeny who did my nails. I had the crazy request to remove my acrylics which I had just got a fill 2 weeks ago, and to get new acrylics instead because my actual nails were growing in. She did what I asked, but she was so patient with everything! Queeny was meticulous about details and continuously asked if I was okay with the shape and color of my nails. And of course the klutz I was, I stubbed my finger and ruined polish on my index finger after she had already done 3 coats! ): but she told me it was okay and told me not to worry that I was making her stay after closing (which I felt horrible about!)I'm definitely going to go back for fills and touch-ups! First timer here!Loveedddd it!!We called in 30 minutes early to set an appointment, and were immediately helped once we walked in. No wait necessary. There also wasn't the usual piercing smell of nail polish like with other places which made the whole experience all the more pleasant.Lily did my nails and she was super sweet and gentle. She made sure she didn't clip me and was very meticulous in the whole process. She did a great job on the pink/white ombré and even suggested adding a little sparkle. The service alone is worth 6 stars! Knowing my co-workers and I were on a time crunch, I called 2 days in advance to schedule an appointment. I was told 12:30 would be the best time-  we preferred earlier but that was fine. How amazing was it when they called me later that evening and said they moved stuff around so we could come at 12?!!? Anyhow, day of, only 2 of us went because the 3rd was out sick (yes, I called them as soon as they opened and told them). Got there and Lily asked which one I was since I guess I'd been speaking to her. We were seated immediately and we were told to pick colors while they started- not in a rushed way, but a "I know you are busy and let's not waste time" way. Also she brought our the tools in a sterile package. Much appreciated. Picked our colors and nails were being done. She even asked what length, asked for approval after one and continued. I had an accent nail and when the glitter went on, it wasn't as sparkly as I liked. Lily immediately came up with a solution which she shared and wanted to make sure it worked. It did! My friend was still finishing up so I got a surprise little neck massage. Perfect place for a weekday appointment since isn't crazy crowded and they honor the appointments. A friend of mine recommended this nail salon and I am so glad she did!I went with a gel mani and regular pedicure. My gel mani was with Lily. She is very sweet and so meticulous. When she was shaping my nails she would stop and ask me if I liked it. Then when it came time to apply the polish she wanted to make sure that I liked the color so she stopped after the first swipe to let me see. You can tell she cares about her work and her customers. I am so happy with how my nails look. My pedi was with Trang. She did an awesome job and my toes look great as well! This has been one of the best salons that I have been to and I'll definitely be back. I also can't wait to share this gem with my girlfriends!Friday and Saturday are their busy days. Lily is AMAZING! Came here on a Saturday afternoon with a friend and she managed to squeeze us in even though we didn't have an appointment. Lily is great at helping you choose colors, and really takes care of your nails in a really meticulous fashion. I showed her a picture of a pattern I wanted my nails to resemble, and she took it and completely ran with it! I'm really fussy about nail art designs and often want to make changes from what I see online, and Lily was able to take my half-formed "oh maybe I want something kinda like this but not really" thoughts and turned them into a masterpiece. I was completely blown away by how my nails turned out and have received SO MANY compliments. Lily also stayed way past closing time to finish up my nail designs - and didn't rush through any of the final steps.
