I never really liked any of the nail salons in Palo Alto, until I came here. Almost all the nail salons do such a half ass job and they're not very friendly. They care more about getting the job done than quality. Kim's Nail Care has the BEST customer service. Everyone there is super friendly and welcoming. I came at 6PM and they were willing to still give me a shellac mani and spa pedi even though they were closing at 7PM. Even when they were about to close, they gave me such amazing service. Carla did my shellac mani and Vivian did my pedi. I felt like a princess. They didn't rush any of it. I also had a hard time choosing the colors I wanted for my nails so they both spent time to help me pick. They didn't my rush me and showed me how all the colors would look like on my nails. I bought a Groupon for a full body massage and decided to use it.  I was sort of dreading that I even bought the Groupon because of all the negative reviews.  But I made the appointment anyway since I had the Groupon.I worried even more because there is nowhere in their printed list of services, online, nor anywhere in the store about full body massages. I had no problem with making the appointment and because of the previous comments I even called one week ahead to confirm the appointment.  And, yes, I was on the list for a body massage at the appointed time and date. And I confirmed that they did body massages.I was prepared for a bad massage experience and was tempted to cancel but there I was at the appointed time ready for a massage!I entered and was greeted right away and led to a massage room.  The room was dim and sparse but appeared clean.  The massage person was friendly and gave a very good massage.  I go for relaxation so I don't really like deep pressure and a few times she was too heavy handed so I told her and she changed her pressure. It was a nice relaxing massage though sometimes you could hear the people in the hallway outside.Overall it is easy to find and parking is a problem as it is in all of Palo Alto.  The place looks very nice and clean and my massage was very nice.  If another Groupon were to be selling massages here I might even buy it again....... but this time I won't dread the experience. DO NOT COME HERE - unprofessional, deceptive business practices. I had a Groupon appointment for lashes. I made the appointment a week ago and confirmed the time. I showed up ten minutes early and was told to wait a little because the lady was on her way - not a problem. The lady FINALLY showed up 25 minutes AFTER my appointment time. She does not speak English and had someone else tell me that I have mascara on my eyes and that would be an additional $25. When I explained that this fee is ridiculous and is not on the Groupon and I was not advised of this when I booked my appointment she called the manager. The manager said it was her fault for not telling me but that is the policy and it didn't matter that I had been waiting for so long. I walked out and Groupon immediately refunded me. Read Less

I looked up reviews of this salon before going. I then realized after coming here that I was on the other Kim's salon on Ramona. If I saw the reviews of this salon, I wouldn't have gone! The reviews for this salon are correct. Services: massage, mani, pedi Massage: Groupon, you get what you pay for Cons:-Hair found all over massage bed (eww!) -Exposed my breast at end of massage (super upset about this)-Technique is none at all. She massages you all over you body in the same style as you get in your pedicure. It was horrible technique, not to mention she did the Thai style at the end and put all her body weight on top if me (hate this!!)-you hear EVERYTHING in this room... I mean EVERYTHING... all the chatter and noise from the nail salon. -didn't begin with music and instead had to call someone to come in the room and turn it on. Literally the most painful manicure I've ever received. I came in for gel and left with mutilated cuticles. The nail polish was cute but this place is so overpriced and they just cut every bit of skin off your fingers. I'm getting chills just thinking about it. Not to mention my uneven eyebrows now too! Please don't come here for eyelash extensions. I had a Groupon which they at first claimed it wasn't working when I arrived. Why didn't they check it when they confirmed my appointment the day before?The appointment started late in addition to the Groupon issue and it was just awful. The lashes on my right eye swayed left and she didn't even apply them to the last four millimeters of my lash line. The glue clumped parts of my lashes together and I had to deal with the fiasco for a week. Yes, I was willing to rip some of them off. It was that irritating. The worst manicure I've ever gotten, and the most expensive. The woman soaked my hand, then left for 10 minutes until the water was cold. Then she came back, and started cutting my cuticles and talking to the other staff WHILE NOT LOOKING AT MY HANDS. She maybe glanced down twice the entire time. Are you kidding me? Then she proceeded to give me the most sloppy manicure of my life, kind of reminded me of the first time I attempted to paint my own nails. I got gel which is supposed to last two weeks, but it started chipping less than 48 hours later. I peeled it off at this point since my nails looked so bad. It took my cuticles weeks to recover. Seriously ladies, keep going to your local strip mall for 20 dollar gel manicures (as I will be doing from now on) because this place is a serious rip off. Worst experience I've had in my life.  I called in for an appointment and I came in on time. Half way through my manicure the lady decides to help another customer and leaves me sitting there without saying anything. I thought she went to get something and didn't realize she wasn't coming back until I looked around and saw her helping someone else. When I asked another lady that was standing next to me if she could finish my manicure because I had another appointment I needed to get to, the manager comes and tells me she'll do it but I need to wait until she finishes helping another client. I waited another 25 minutes and when it's finally my turn, she did a horrible job.  My cuticles look disgusting and for the second coat she only painted half of my nail.  I tried to point it out to her and she ignored me. I thought Kim's Nail Care was perhaps one of the worst nail salon experiences I have had up to date. The service was speedy, but that was perhaps the only distinguishable feature that stood out in a positive light. They chopped my nails off at the root, and layered the nail polish on in a gooey mountain that never dried (even after two days of wearing it I could still indent it easily with my nails). The personnel was constantly talking in a way that seemed unwelcoming and their lack of knowledge of English was inconvenient - I could not explain my wishes properly. I am very particular when it comes to a good acrylic fill, and I was NOT impressed with the service I received at Kim's Nail Care today. The application was way too thick and lumpy, my technician did not file my nails to the shape I asked, she got the pre-acrylic on my skin (it burns), she missed certain spots with acrylic, the polish application was rushed and sloppy, and to top it all off, the entire fill took AN HOUR AND 45 MINUTES-- and would have taken longer had I not bolted out of there the second she finished applying the topcoat. (For those who don't normally get acrylics, a fill should take about one hour.) Service-wise, my technician was loudly having a conversation with another woman in the back of the salon practically the entire time she was painting my nails. Don't be fooled by the size, location, or apparent constant flow of clients at this place. It is a total mystery to me why this place is everyone in Palo Alto's go-to. I've been here 3 or 4 times and should know better at this point not to go here. It's $10 more expensive for a shellac manicure vs most other local places. The staff speak Vietnamese the whole time and make little attempt to speak to you. Today, the owner did my manicure and spent more time talking to her staff and taking calls then she did focusing on my manicure. My cuticles look awful and the polish is all over my hands (see pictures). I really wanted to like this place. It's always busy and you can pay extra to get a shoulder massage during your manicure. On my way home from yoga, I said to myself: gurrrrl, you need a mani/pedi. Kim's was on the way home and they were able to take me right away. I didn't get their names, but the women who did my nails were nice and pro. I think the owner (or at least manager) did my hands. I indulged in an extra splurge with a 10 minute foot massage. Very nice. Sometimes I wonder if the nail technicians talk about me... In this case, I wouldn't be surprised since I was pretty ripe from yoga. Regardless, everyone in the salon appeared to be happy and respectful of one another. I like that. And when a client walked in after me, a couple of ladies greeted her by name.Plus: they sell sturdy flip-flops for $1 if you happen to wear Nikes in like I did. If I could give negative stars I would. I have never been treated with so much disrespect by a business in my life. And that's saying a lot. I am new to the area and went in to have my nails done last weekend. The fill was fine but I did wait a very long time. Supposedly they only have 2 people who can do artificial nails. Fine. I was happy with the results. The technician told me that they offer eyelash extensions. I knew better than to have them done at a salon of this nature but being new to the area and having just driven 30 hours cross country, not knowing where else to go and Halloween weekend looming and a busy workweek, I agreed to set up an appointment for a fill. A few of my lashes had fallen out, hence needing a fill, and they'd started to look sparse. I hadn't know if I would even make it anywhere to have the fill and wanted to look nice for a work dinner, so I applied some mascara to my lashes. I have done the same thing in the past, using a gel based mascara as recommended by my former technician. This has never ever been an issue. Ever. I have occasionally applied mascara at the very end before getting a fill when I've had to wait to get in for m appointment. My old place always was able to give me a fill and my lashes have looked amazing for 7 months. When I went in for my appointment the woman who approached me to do my lashes didn't greet me, she just came up to me and leaned into my face and says, "You have macara?" At first I had no idea what she said because her English was so poor. I asked her to repeat it and she asked again. When I revealed that I had worn mascara a few days prior, this woman about came unhinged. She said you aren't supposed to wear mascara with extensions and said a bunch of stuff I couldn't understand. She said it "not look natural". I tried to explain why I'd worn it and that it was my personal preference to do as I pleased with my lashes and that sometimes I like a more dramatic look. She didn't want to hear anything I had to say and kept babbling and ranting. Once in the back room, she fumbled around, took forever to apply the tape, actually touched my eyeball with it and dropped the tape roll on my face. She made a ton of clamber with her tools and taped something to my forehead, all the while continuing to lecture me about wearing mascara and saying things I couldn't understand. She said that I know nothing about wearing extensions. I finally asked her if she would please stop talking, that I got her point and they I was becoming annoyed. She then said she would do the lashes this one time but if I ever came there again and had worn mascara, she wouldn't do the lashes for me. A threat! Nice. And no problem. I would never be coming there again anyway. But I had a date right after the appointment and wanted them done and I'd driven 30 minutes to get there. She kept speaking to me in a very harsh voice, telling me to stop moving my eyes. I told her that eye movements are involuntary and she had made me increasingly upset, so if she would stop talking, I'm sure my eyes would relax. I've been through a tremendous amount of stress lately and her attitude was the last thing I needed.After messing around with my lashes for God knows how long, she finally said she had to take off all my lashes and give me a new set. And here the truth came out. She just wanted to bully me into buying a full set. I said I wasn't going to do that, nor did I have the time. She continued to mess with my lashes and then again said she had to give me a full set but would only charge me for the fill. I said I had to be somewhere and didn't have the time. That would take at least 2 hours but at her rate, would probably be longer. I said I just didn't have the time. She said I could leave and I said I wanted the service I'd come for and I had a date and wanted the lashes. Again, she messed with my lashes and then demanded I not move my eyeballs at all. I finally said, the reason they were moving is because she'd been so incredibly rude and insulting. At that point she got up and stormed out of the room. She just left me there, with tape on my eyes and a strip of lashes stuck to my forehead. I pulled it all off and walked out of the room. The woman was at the front of the salon, glaring at me. I walked out, with everyone staring. It was humiliating and by far the most unprofessional and disgusting experience I've ever had with a business. They do a decent job.... but you will wait a LONG time for it. They don't honor appointments, so sometimes it will take almost 3hr from arrival to departure. First you wait for 45min in the lobby, then you wait for a while in the chair, then you'll wait between the manicure and the pedicure. It is not worth it for an average manicure. So, just new to the area I thought I would check out this nail salon just off university ave. you would think given the location and price I would have gotten a decent fill.  My 5 year old niece could have done a better job. This review is for Lily. Lily did a great job on my nails -- she took her time (it didn't feel rushed as a walk-in), paid attention to details by asking if my nails were exactly as I wanted them along the process (i.e. Shape, color, length, etc.), and she was friendly. I'm a self-proclaimed "germaphobe" and at first she began using a used nail filer but I said I was uncomfortable with that so she grabbed a new one. Overall the service was great and I felt comfortable with her. I got a shellac manicure which was $35 plus tip. Not bad and that seems to be the genera price in PA. However, the ambiance and interior decoration of the salon felt dated and a little grungy. Lavende has the same price but has a nicer ambiance and they offer tea/water/beverages. Kim's exceeded my expectations in terms of service but the overall vibe felt like I stepped into 1987. Read Less

I have never had a worse gel manicure in my entire life!!!  The salon technicians are rude, speak English poorly and are in such a rush, I felt uncomfortable the entire time I was there.I should have saved the picture of my hands to post here.  While the gel was still wet, I mentioned that perhaps she should wipe it off my cuticles and when I called over her co-worker to translate, the co-worker said that the technician would get it off after.   Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I cured my gel under the lamp.  Sure enough, the gel on my cuticles cured as well and it did not come right off.   She did offer to sand it off with a nail file but I politely declined and ran out of the salon.  As a side note-The gel that she managed to put on my fingernails started chipping in 3 days!  The only gel that remained firmly in place was the gel surrounding my cuticles.  LOL Read Less

I love massages, and foot spas haven't failed me yet...until now. I guess this is a nail place, and as that it seems quite popular. They said they had foot reflexology but it was just a rub down of forearms, forelegs, and tops of the feet. There was hardly any time spent on the bottom of the feet like true reflexology, and very little time on my neck and back like at foot spas. My massage therapist used repetitive rubbing motion that pinched, chafed, and made me ache. I came out worse for the wear. I felt like I paid to get tortured. Nothing felt good.
