I had a very troubling experience there today that really makes me not trust them. I booked a service through vagaro - their online booking platform for a $19 tooth whitening service originally on a Tuesday evening. I received a text message saying "you have an appointment for teeth whitening. The special is only good for Sundays, just to make sure you know that it will be regular price today". We chatted through text and I agreed to change it to a Sunday when the supposed price I booked it at (again, $19 through Vagaro) was valid. I got there and did the treatment and they charged me $30. When I asked the girl why she went back to Lucia said something in their language and then told me it was a "tip" too. They literally had a sign directly in front of me saying they could no longer charge cards for tips and that tips were CASH ONLY. I picked up the sign and showed it to her and she had this look like "oh shit' on her face. Then Lucia comes out and tells me to prove that it was supposed to be $19. I had to pull up the vagaro website and show her myself. She said she had no clue it was that price. Umm, who is setting your prices then?? I'm sure vagaro does not since they are just a third party booking service. As a massage therapist I have used websites like this before and typically you have to enter all that info in yourself. Lucia also lied about the text messages saying those messages were automated. I am linking them here so you can decide for yourself whether these were "automated" texts. I know they weren't. Having to go into a business and constantly feel like you are being ripped off and fight just for the price that they themselves advertise is not a great feeling. That completely alienates customers. This company has mistakenly used my personal phone number in all of their email correspondence for over a year. After contacting them and being assured that they would ensure all future communication had their correct phone number, I have started to receive unwanted calls and texts again because they refuse to edit their correspondence. I've gone here steadily over the past three years for my waxing needs including bikini, extended bikini, and full brazilian. All of the ladies are very professional and thorough. Dont be afraid to communicate exactly how much hair youd like taken off. Pleasant atmosphere. I tried a couple of other salons around Oakland but always I come back to Lucia's! Lucia is the best I've ever worked with. she's very thorough and finds every single lash to work with so I have that full look that I want without making it look fake. I love how it turns out every time. I was going to another woman who was charging almost twice as much as Lucia and within days my lashes would have a hole in the middle section. it has been 3 weeks and I've yet to see any lashes fall out.I also appreciate that Lucia is environmentally friendly and is so knowledgeable of her craft. I have only had three services at Lucia Health & Beauty: Manicure, pedicure, and Brazilian extended wax. I love their manicure and pedicure game. Will go back to get my nails done again and again. Jane is fantastic with french manicures. And I haven't had a single pedicure chip or peel even though I don't ever do gel pedis. 4 to 5 stars for mani/pedis.I give my waxing experience 1 to 2 stars. I definitely will not be going back for a wax there. First, they literally "disinfect" your lady parts with actual disinfecting wipes that are meant for surfaces NOT meant for skin. It burned so badly I thought my privates were literally on fire. Not all of the hair was removed and I was bleeding in some areas afterwards. I have gotten a wax before, but it was nowhere near as painful as this experience. The woman who did it was very sweet and apologetic, but I won't be getting a wax there again. Lucia is a lash master! Just got a full set done today and they look beautiful; very natural just like I asked for. Get the silk lashes; they are $20 more but totally worth it. I honestly don't know how this place has such a good rating. I went there for a liquor gel fill(they call it hard gel) and it was seriously the worst application I've ever seen. I could have done a better job, my nails were about 1/4 inch thick. When she added the polish she let it pool on the side of my nails which she said she could just file off...which she couldn't  and she ended up having to do it again. The fill ended up taking over 2hours! It's really unfortunate that businesses would let inexperienced technicians work on someone's nails for that long and do that bad of a job. I made an appointment and showed up at the scheduled time and the lights were off and the front door to the store was locked. No employees were visible. I called the store just in case and no one answered. I waited a little while to see if anyone would appear and no such luck. :( It's frustrating because I did receive texts from the business confirming and reminding me about my appointment. 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment I got a text saying I was a no show. I just finished my appointment for natural eyelash extensions at Lucia Health and Beauty. I had purchased a Groupon for $129 that included a set and a refill. You have to call ahead to book your appointment, and when you do they're super informative and helpful with prep and suggestions.        I was late to my appointment because I was stuffing my face with Burrito Express down the street (also highly recommend, especially before a two hour lash appointment) and Lucia was still super sweet and accommodating. She helped me discuss options and concerns, before Jane put my new lashes on. I would highly recommend Jane if you're going to get this done. She's fast, has a light touch, and obviously knows what she's doing. My lashes are thick, full, and naturally complimentary to my face. My refill is set for three weeks from now. Read Less

Horrible experience!  The WORST customer service I have ever received.  SHORT story...they Tried to pass off giving only HALF the time that I paid for.  Were unwilling to perform the full service I paid for.  Inattentive staff, who seemed not to care at all.  If you want details, read on. I bought a groupon for a 60 minute cupping session, which I was both incredibly excited and nervous about because it was my first cupping session ever.  When I got there, I tried to open the door but it was locked...so I had to knock on the door....which wouldn't have been such a big deal if the doors weren't glass, with a person sitting at the desk looking right at me, and I was only there 5 minutes early.After being let in, I had to give my name 3 times, and tell them the service I was there for 2.  I repeated 60 minute cupping session twice.  It also had a very strong acetone smell...which I guess I should have expected since they do nails, but I was not expecting it to permeate the room where the cupping session took place.  After getting in, and finally getting them to understand what I was there for, I was told to go to the bathroom...without them ever letting me know where it was.  They pretty much demanded that I go to the bathroom...(even though I live 5 minutes away and went before I left.)  There were no towels at all to dry my hand in the bathroom.After that, I was shown into the room, and they told me to take off clothes...I had to confirm that taking off everything was acceptable (not knowing the standard for the service, or for the place itself)  They looked at me like I was crazy.I was also told to lie face down on a table, that had no hole for the head to go through, which made lying down not only uncomfortable, but hard to breathe, but I didn't want that to sour what I was hoping could still be a good service, so I just sucked it up, and dealt with it.  After waiting lying on the table face down for at least 5, although it felt more like 10, minutes (Didn't check my clock) the woman performing the service came in....never even introduced herself or anything....She then started rubbing PETROLEUM JELLY on my back....and I don't know if that is standard...but it seemed really cheap, and just felt gross.She spend a few minutes feeling my back and my muscles, so I still was thinking that this could be good.  Well, she starts doing the cupping, and I am barely feeling any pressure or suction at all.  I do have a super high pain tolerance...but I was told that this could be a really painful experience, and that the suction was STRONG (told by people who have had this procedure done elsewhere).  I try to relax, and just go with it, and as soon as I let myself relax....I hear the phone of the person performing the procedure.  She was ON HER PHONE scrolling through god knows what, while she is supposed to be performing the procedure!!!!   What if something had gone wrong?!?!  She probably would have been too deep into whatever was going on with what she was looking at on her phone to notice!Just as I was thinking that I was going to ask if they could turn up the pressure and suction for the rest of the procedure, she turns off the machine, and says that she is finished, and to put my clothes back on....I think, well...damn...that hour went by really fast!NOPE!!!I look at my phone and it has only been 30 MINUTES!!!  HALF THE TIME I PAID FOR!!!!!So, I go out, still in the towel that they had given me, (because frankly I don't really care about nudity) and tell them that I still have half an hour left in my service, and I would like to continue and receive the full value that I paid for.  They told me that I was wrong.  That they never did that.  We went back and forth for about 10 minutes (yes...literally 10 minutes, no exaggeration) While I am showing them the confirmation for a 60 minute cupping session.  They tried so many different excuses including "you got here early"...yea, I got here 5 minutes early, but after all the check-in, going to the bathroom, and waiting for the procedure to start, I was basically right on time.and "no one can handle an hour long cupping session"....Then why do so many other places offer them?  And why were you selling them?It ended up with me waiting for another 5 minutes or so while they tried to call the owner, who wasn't picking up at first.  Then, after the owner finally picking up, they gave the phone to me....without asking if I wanted to explain the situation.....So I told her that I have a purchase for a 60 minute cupping session and they only gave me half of that time.  It ended up with them telling me that I have to take it up with groupon myself because they were unable to provide me with what I paid for.Groupon, was great, they agreed to a refund right away, and I am just waiting for it to post back into my account.NEVER again will I go to this place!! Of course any Brazilian will hurt, but they use hard wax that makes it fast & most importantly it lasts! Many chains sell you lots of products for your bumps and ingrown hairs, that's because they are CAUSING those problems. At Lucia's you won't need products, because they get it right the first time! As you can see, I really love them & you will, too. I've seen several other staff and Lucia makes sure they are all well trained. Your body is too important to take a chance. Read Less

I had an eyelash treatment at Lucia's Health & Beauty. It was a good decision for me. Now, my thin eyelashes look much better. Actually, they look fantastic now. The bigger eyelashes make my whole face look better. The shop is very modern and serene. Easy to get to, and parking was easy to find. The shop is located on the East side of Telegraph Aveenue as you approach downtown. The neighborhood is full of hip taverns and art galleries. The whole staff is very kind and friendly. They look natural and beautiful and they only cost me $100 (I bought a living social voucher for $75 and they charged an extra $25 for the mink option). This review is solely for their nail services (it appears they are much better reviewed for eyebrow/eyelash services). My sister and I went here about a week ago for manicures to celebrate her birthday. We made appointments and arrived on time. When we arrived, we were asked to wash our hands first (which is normal). In the bathroom, there was a sign that asked customers not to flush ANYTHING (including toilet paper) down the toilet, and instead, asking to throw any toilet paper in the trash due to toilet issues. I am no expert, but pretty certain that violates at least a health code or two. I had a gel nail polish on from a previous manicure, which the woman clearly had little experience in removing. She cut my nails just a bit, but did not file them, or do ANYTHING for the cuticles (although she did apply cuticle oil as an afterthought once the manicure was done). She put on a base coat, which looked really cheap and old (it was gooey and stringy as she painted it on), then applied the polish and a top coat (again, cheap top coat- although the owner insisted they use only the best products). The technician did nothing to address the paint that got on my skin or around the nailbed. For reference, each manicure cost $18 (-$2 for a birthday discount on my sister's nails- still, fairly expensive for a basic manicure). Aside from that, the place just seemed kind of a mess and disorganized (boxes all over the place). The nail services section is cramped and the woman giving a pedicure next to us kept bumping into my table. My sister and I also had to share a fan (what?) to dry our nails because "most people get gels." All around, just avoid this place for nail services- not even close to worth the price. Read Less

My first time here.  Nice and clean.  They offer a variety of services and also has online booking/scheduling. The lady who took care of me during my appointment was Michelle (hopefully I spelled it right). She was very gentle, took her time to wax me (unlike other places where you can definitely tell, it's quantity over quality). She plucked hairs that were not removed from wax, one by one.  She also helped me with my in grown hair problems by giving me tips to prevent it and removing all of them.  She's excellent.Parking kinda sucks here though. Honestly, only came to this salon because of the enticing groupon offer- 17$ for a gel manicure. This place is on the bustling streets of Telegraph Ave, so parking is horrific. If you're lucky, there's a 2 hour street parking located up the street on 24th. I kid you not, I was there for 1.5+ hours for a gel manicure. I did have gel polish on before that she had to soak off, but I do not have that much time to spare. The chairs are uncomfortable and rolled around every time I repositioned. Each nail took almost 2 minutes to paint one coat, and because I chose a lighter shade, she had to do 3 coats, which turned out bubbly and uneven. My nails didn't even turn out to look like someone worked over an hour on! My nail shapes and length were uneven. Very disappointing. But I was desperate to get my nails done.
