By far one of the weirdest and terrible gel manicures I've ever gotten. I called on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at 5:45pm and they fit me into an appointment at 6pm. The woman on the phone was very nice and accommodating and I was in desperate need of a manicure. The gel I had previously was about 3 weeks grown out and one of my nails had broken and hand no polish on it at all. As you can imagine, I was just thankful to get an appointment. Traffic was horrendous and getting to my normal salon was virtually impossible. When I arrived the place was....lackluster. Nothing fancy or even remotely appealing but, in the same respect, I didn't come for the ambiance. I was seated quickly and began the removal process of the old gel. What was odd to me was how rough the technician was. Not a huge deal but thought it was weird. We were trucking along, and as you may recall I had one nail that had zero polish on it...like none... I thought it was kind of strange when she still put the acetone soak and foil on the bare nail. I wasn't super thrilled about that considering acetone is a natural poison, I figure the least amount of exposure the better, but still not a huge deal. The manicurist seemed...rushed. She took off the foil too soon and started chipping away at the old polish but because it hadn't soaked long enough parts were not coming off. They said my nail was "stained". I think she realized it wasn't stained and soaked it for a little longer. Afterward the old polish came right off. From that point she filed and cut down my nails. I asked that she not make them too rounded on the edges, which she did to the best of her ability (although they were still too round for my taste). After she had finished filing and clipping, she took the towel from under my hands that had all of the waste and just dumped it on the floor... strange. My nails had been soaking in water once the clipping was done. She put on the cuticle gel and started cleaning up my nail beds cutting away the excess skin and cuticles. She didn't wipe off the cuticle gel so when it started to dry it got really sticky like glue and her fingers were sticking to mine. When she had finally finished digging in my cuticles and underneath my nails she tried to wash off the cuticle gel with the old water that my nails were soaking in. When the gel wasn't washing off she had to go back and get a bowl of hot water and then proceeded to awkwardly wipe my hands for what seemed like 5 minutes. Her hands were so sticky still it freaked me out as she started to buff my nails with a buffer she got from a small box that read "Clean". The buffer did not look "clean" and I soon realized all the tools she was using had come out of said box. It took everything in me not to ask her to stop and run out of there. We got to the polish finally and as she painted on layer, after layer, after layer of polish, each time violently slamming the polish brush back into the bottle with every stroke, I realized, she didn't feel the 3 coats she had already applied were enough. After putting my hands under the UV light I took them out and there were ripples all over them and things that had gotten stuck to the nail that she didn't bother to remove before the next 3 coats. The only redeeming factor was that the top coat smoothed out the ripples and they were no longer visible. She didn't properly clean around the edges of my nails after painting so they dried with the paint uneven along the edges and looks similarly to when I do my own at home. I just had a lovely experience here! I'm leaving for vacation Saturday morning and the rest of my week is booked so I called last minute with a long shot hope they could fit me in! They got me in for an appointment 15 minutes after I called.  Jenny did my acrylics and they are so cute!! She really took her time, even removing multiple nails that had water under them (I do hair)! I really appreciate the amount of time and care she put into making sure my nails were perfect, especially because I'm not generally too picky!  I didn't get the ladies name who did my toes but they look awesome as well.  Sandy did the design on my big toe for me and I love it!! I will add photos to the yelp page!  Also I can't sit still long enough to let them dry so it was super sweet that the whole salon panicked when I got up to leave.  They wanted to give me flip flops but I told them I'm parked right in front, no need!  In summery I'm so glad I found this place, thank you guys so much for taking such good care of me today! I randomly walked in today and they were so nice and accommodating. I hadn't had a manicure since my wedding in 2008 and Kristy did such an amazing job. I plan on coming back every couple of weeks for sure. I'm so glad I found this place. Everyone is so nice and friendly. Read Less

My experience was less then perfect. The girl that did my nails didn't speak or understand any English at all. I don't think she had a CA state license!( I counted four licenses and there were five working) I had to point out that the corner of my nails were not done. The nail polish only lasted a day until it started to chip off. My toe nails started to come off with in the week. This was the worst mani & pedi I have ever had. Do not waste you money. I love this small place on the second floor of Vintage Oaks building across from the Old Navy store. They are really nice and friendly, the place is clean and Christy, the owner, is so talented at giving you the perfect mani/pedi! I enjoy these ladies-not too loud at their place-and great attention to detail during your treatment. They have many loyal clients and best to call ahead for an appointment! I have been coming to this nail salon for many years. I am sad to say that when the awesome owners Mi and Lee sold and moved away, the place completely changed. The ladies are still the same. But the new owner has created an atmosphere that is no longer pleasing. I like to get designs on my nails. The last 2 times that happened, the owner stood behind me, speaking to my gal in her native language. After moving away, my nail girl translated .... basically, the owner didn't like that I took so long getting designs on my nails! And I'm paying extra to get these designs! And the owner complains about it? I thought okay, maybe once, I'll see how it goes next time. But unfortunately, the following visit, the same response...I take too long. Ugggghhhh....no need to pay for this abuse. I now have to find a new source. I just wanted people to be aware, that under new ownership, this place is no longer great :-( Read Less

I'm not sure why this place was busy, maybe because it's on the cheaper side.This is definitely a first world problem but I am so annoyed that nail salons these days are either 1) fast and cheap or 2) Expensive and don't have the massage chairs and take 2+hours....why isn't there a good in-between? This place falls under the 1 category. Decor-sad doctors officeService-rushed, they ladies are friendly but just tell me your too busy next time NOT relaxing-The ladies yammered the ENTIRE time, loudly.Chairs- Ok, not that comfortable and didn't have built in foot bath. Nails- good results but not relaxing at all. I'm almost 9 months pregnant, not what I was looking for.Cleanliness-yikes, I just hate it when the tools are not sterilized and was cringing with the old nail file and buffers being used by how many people in the past.?? Ive had my fair share of nail salons for a guy because im a compulsive nail chewer so if i get the done and have a natural look to them i don't chew them because mentally they look nice . I went to NJ's first but unfortunately they were packed i have horrible social anxiety so i left and went here instead i gave a call to make sure they weren't pack and they weren't so thank god they did a great job but the could have let my top coat dry longer my thumb smudged :/ Read Less

I LOVE this Salon! I've been to many different ones in the same plaza but none compare! Although they don't have the "esthetics" the NJ nail salon has (salon in same plaza: do not recommend) Vintage nails has something much more valuable to me as a Client, Appreciation! I had a fabulous experience today at Vintage nails. I'm incredibly picky about my acrylic nails. I like them to be on the thinner side so they're more natural looking and have slightly rounded corners. The woman, I believe her name was Hang, did an amazing job. Walked in on a whim and walked out with a great manicure.It was a busy Saturday and Vintage Oaks was packed as always.... I was in desperate need of a manicure so I quickly pulled up the nearest places on Yelp and walked into Vintage Nails.  They took me immediately - there was a full staff of 5-6 ladies working there.  The place definitely does not have a spa atmosphere - no music, no TV that day - just the white noise of the ladies speaking to one another in their native language.  It wasn't particularly clean, nor was it particularly dirty.  I am super picky about my manicures - I have long, very strong nails and I hate it when they get butchered.  I didn't catch my technician's name, but she was clearly an experienced manicurist.  Great shaping, minimal cuticles cut off and perfect application of polish.  What more could a girl ask for? One of the worst mani/pedis I have ever had.  I am far from picky, but this place rushed through both my mani and pedi and I had nail polish along my cuticles on fingers and toes.  Even more unfortunate is that I had gel on my nails so it's not like I can easily have it cleaned up at another place.  I asked her to fix it and instead of removing the polish and doing it again she tried to do a quick fix that didn't work.  Worst part?  Cost me $45.  Too pricey for a poor job.   Luckily I don't live in Novato and don't have to come back.  Regardless, look elsewhere if you want something that looks better than what I could have done myself (I cannot paint my nails well at all).  And if you are desperate for some reason and choose to ignore this review, make sure you bring your own nail polish.  People who seem to go there often all brought their own polish and that's probably because they have a pretty limited selection.  I also think they may try harder if they know you so if you are a local and have a relationship with these folks, please ask them to focus on new business as well. Try Vintage Nails first! After trying what seemed like every nail place in northern Marin, I'd pretty much given up on finding a good place for acrylic nails. Fortunately, a gf recommended asking for Mi or Christy at Vintage Nails. I have never been disappointed! I'm particularly picky and was pretty concerned about trying another new place as they all have their own techniques, but the artists at Vintage listen and have accommodated every requestMi & Christy are both quick and excel at providing just what you request. They have lots of options and are willing to try out new designs and styles. If you are looking for something special, just ask. As with any salon, if you have preferences, be sure to go over them beforehand. Vintage does quality pedis and manis as well. The whole staff is very friendly! They are in a safe, clean location with ample parking across from Old Navy in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center. While Vintage isn't as fancy as some of the local salons, they make up for it with talent and crazy reasonable pricing. Read Less
