My last, very last visit was this week.  My pedicure looks great, but the service was very questionable.  My technician seemed a little cranky and angry.  She was abrupt in her manner and communication. Then, when she placed a too hot towel onto my foot and I screamed out loud, that was the final straw.  She asked, "are you okay?", I said fine, and finished the session, paid my bill and tipped and left.  No, I will never return to Hawaii Nail. The place is filthy and full of cigarette smoke and that was my biggest issue. Lady who worked on my nails was nice but she made my nails look hideous, all of them are different lengths and shape now. I came in for a regular pedicure that was supposed to be $20 dollars. They asked me to pick the color of nail polish I want and once I did they informed me it would be an extra $3 charge for "OPI" brand nail polish. I asked why and she replies "because it doesn't chip". I feel like they make up their own prices and there isn't a pricing board. There's nothing special about my pedicure so I won't be going back! I'm a fan of Hawaii Nails. Certainly some manicurists are better than others but for the most part I've had really good experiences here. And like any nail salon, if you are a regular then they get to know you and what you like. I find they usually have availability for my appointment if I call the day before and even that day. If I could give this place a zero I would. I called in this morning for a an appointment. It was 9:35 and I said I could be there in 15 minutes. The woman asked me to hurry. I told her I was leaving from San marin and I would be there as soon as possible. When I hung up the phone it was 9:41.After rushing there, the rude woman said : "sorry honey you are already late and I had these two walk in. I can see you in 40 minutes." I had arrived At 9:51.I was furious. My husband had dropped me off to save time while he grocery shopped. It wrecked my entire morning.Then she said she tried to call me to tell me. Ummmmm never again!! I'm writing this review while still sitting in the pedicure chair which is unusual for me to write so quickly but I never felt so uncomfortable in a nail salon before!!! They're mean here!!! I've been working out a lot so my toes aren't exactly awesome looking hence the pedicure and the woman doing my nails keeps asking me why I don't wear open toe shoes more. Uh let's see: it's the Bay Area and cold in the morning, you can't work out in flip flops, and it's damn none of her business!!! She then tells me that my toes need air but in a rude way. I'm sitting here embarrassed out of my mind!!!! I never would have come here but the wine and art festival is this weekend and I can't get hear my favorite salon on Grant. Omg!!! I'm mortified and will never return!!!!! Customer service was awful from minute one! The sign in the window says "walk ins welcome!", but I was treated like an ass for having no appointment!! Trust me: don't walk in, RUN OUT!!!!!!!!! UPDATE: after getting my toenails painted, the woman who did my nails wouldn't even help me put my flip-flops back on or tell me where the bathroom was. I have had NUMEROUS bad experiences here (both quality and customer service) .... But after a 2yr hiatus, I decided to give them another go (but only bc it was mothers day and that's where my cousin wanted to go). What a mistake. The ladies were nice, but the quality of my shellac after the first day was horrendous. The color started to change in an odd way and one gem had already popped off. Not being from Novato and having time to kill I decided to get a pedicure. A local shop owner recommended Hawaii Nail. She warned me it looked at bit dated but that they did a good job. The decor was old and dated, but when you get great service who cares?The ladies in there were very friendly and welcomed me warmly. My pedicure was first rate, AND they did not try and shove my sandals on with wet toes and send me on my way. I will never be returning to this place again. Not only could she barely, and I mean BARELY speak English, I had to ask several times what she was asking and eventually gave up cause there was no hope. I had asked for gel polish, she asked tip, I told her no the whole nail. She did just the tips anyway and pretended to not understand when I told her that is not what I wanted. She applied acrylics as well but when I asked for them to be cut down since I like to keep my nails s...hort she forgot an entire hand and then acted annoyed when I reminded her that my left hand was still at the long length. None of my nails are an even length or match of any sort to the other hand, they are extremely crooked and no joke when I pointed that out she told me I was wrong. After giving up on trying to get my nail painted even though I knew the acrylic wouldn't match she did the tips. I would honestly like to know what she was on cause if she thinks these are well rounded tips I deserve my damn money back. Thank goodness my in-laws had given me a gift certificate cause I will be going elsewhere where they actually know how to apply acrylics and polish correctly! For a fill, gel polish and design on two nails she was charging me $38.00, I promise you what I received wasn't even worth $10.00 don't waste your time here. I know of much better places to go. This afternhoon I had the absolute worst pedicaure I have ever had. The woman cut my toes at least SIX (6) times. No apologies and NO foot massage. It was horrible, and I would NEVER return. I am so addicted to their "hawaiian pedicure" that I can't go anywhere else. It use to be that depending on the area I was in, I would go to a salon for a pedicure. Now, after going to them several times, I am hooked. For just a few dollars more than an average pedicure, you get a sea-salt scrub, foot massage, and a hot wax treatment for your feet.
