I'm female with short straight hair. I went to Jay for a trim, specifying what length of hair I wanted and that I preferred longer bangs. The haircut took over an hour, and I left with a hilarious uneven, almost bald haircut: 1. I had asked for bangs, and I definitely wasn't left with any. 2. The back of my hair manages to be much shorter than I wanted and still really uneven. The base is near bald in places with awkwardly long hair at the edges, the part near the hair partibg is also short (so that I also have awkward hair sticking out near the top), and the middle area is left much longer. If I run my hair through the back, it creates this really awkward bulge in the middle that has nothing to do with the shape of my head. 3. The hair that comes in front of the ears manages to be really uneven on both sides (he nearly trimmed one side off with a razor) and left the other as is. The manager (?) chided me for not having cash for a tip. I paid $55 and left a $5 tip. I wound up somewhat evening it out with a scissors in a bathroom, and it'll probably start to look reasonable in a couple months. I've had better experiences pretty much everywhere else. I normally opt for cheaper or home done haircuts and wound up here looking for something nice. It turned out to be much much worse. Julie's cut my hair twice now, and has done a great job each time. I'm not terribly picky or sure how my hair should be cut, but Julie always has great recommendations for my request for low-maintenance cuts. The cuts turn out great, and they grow out really well. The head massage during the shampoo is out of this world! Online reservations is a plus, and they called me 2+ weeks ahead of time to see if I would like to reschedule when they discovered a conflict on their side. Read Less

Very reasonable prices and high quality service. Daisy did a great job on my red violet ombre, got the color perfect based on pictures I showed her. The whole process took a little less than 3 hours as I also got a trim and my hair curled. Pleasantly suppressed by the free beer and Netflix to watch during the time there. The facilities are very clean and relaxing vibe. There is a lot of nearby street parking as the shop located I  downtown Mountain View. They accept credit which is much appreciated. Dear Yelp community, I have to tell you about a wonderful stylist at Julie Q's, Vicky Ng.But first, I should tell you about my hair. I joke that my hair is perfect one day a year: HALLOWEEN. It's super thick, wiry, and generally unruly. Even after decades of experience, I struggled to tame it into some sort of socially acceptable style.As such, I always had great anxiety about getting haircuts. Every stylist would finish by pulling out a blow dryer, and I would cringe because I knew what was coming next: a full-on Bride of Frankenstein look that would make me wish I'd remembered to bring a hat, or a paper bag, or anything to conceal my head until I returned home!So my expectations were pretty low when I first scheduled an appointment at Julie Q's and got Vicky as my stylist. Vicky cut my hair, and it was obvious right away that she was fussy about her work. She worked hard to get the cut nice and even - which is difficult to do with curly hair. When she pulled out the blow dryer, I cringed as usual - but then she amazed me by masterfully straightening my hair and making it look... fabulous! I was sure she had used some sort of black magic to accomplish this, but she patiently explained how she did it and how I could do it at home. I was thrilled!I must have expressed to Vicky during my first appointment my general fear of haircuts, because several appointments later, when I declared that I'd decided to "go short" and showed her a bunch of photos of short styles on my phone, she wisely suggested that we go shorter incrementally. The cut she gave me that day was wonderful... and the next one was shorter and even better! I absolutely love my hair now, and I don't think I would have had the courage to make such a big change without having full confidence in my stylist. Today was my second visit to JulieQ's. My last visit was about 2-3 months ago, where Daisy cut my hair. I loved it so much that I decided to come back and request Daisy today :)My hair began about 2 ft. long, and with summer right around the corner, I had wanted to cut and donate my hair. Just like last time, she listened and applied every detail that I asked for, as I had brought in multiple photos to show the style and details I wanted. The stylists here really listen to customers' requests, and that is what sets JulieQ's apart from other salons and what I love about it so much! Daisy is also so precise and detailed, she takes her time and really does an amazing job! This review is long overdue. Found this cute salon through Yelp and the staff is gracious and courteous.  But I what I really want to do is give praise to Jay - a genius with hair color. I've done some serious damage to my long hair with previous hair dye jobs and use of a flat iron on my hair with out heat protectant. It really looked like a rats nest and my ends felt like straw. I went to Jay, he heard my concerns, and he evaluated the condition of my hair. He gave me a super adorable modern bob and then... the color. Oh my! TRANSFORMATION. I literally gasped when I looked in the mirror and caught my breath. My hair looked sexy, gorgeous, and healthy. Jay is definitely a hair magician. I had found him through a recommendation from my friend. He is very meticulous with his hair cut which I appreciate. He will listen to exactly what hairstyle you are aiming for and replicate it to his best effort. I just came here couple days ago and Jay had given me the perfect job for my 1st balayage session. Also the rest of the staff is very pleasant. Price are competitive. The salon is clean too, especially the owner couples are very fun. I like Daisy-the stylist, she is very caring about what I really want for my hair!At first I don't want my hair be too short, so she did as what I want; and one week later, I feel the dead ends is still there (I dyed my hair one year ago, so the dead ends came from the damage from dying in other hair salon).I called Daisy, she said, come back, I will see what I can do for you. If there was an option to give 6 stars, I would. Because this place, is JUST THAT AMAZING.I seriously think I just got the best haircut in my life, ever, period from Daisy. I called in this morning & they were available to get an appointment within the hour. Daisy gave me the best hair wash / scalp massage I've ever received. Then she meticulously cut my hair for two hairs. I asked for side bangs because I wanted to bring my 2012 self back but I was hesitant about how they would turn it. Daisy made that happen and exceeded all my expectations. She also curled my hair at the end!!The total cost was $55 which is an amazingly good deal. I have tight curly hair. Usually, getting a good haircut is a challenge, and most places will mess it up. I've gone to JulieQ three times now, and all three haircuts have been really great!This is a relief as I've been struggling to find a place that can give me consistently good haircuts lately. I walked in on the day before thanksgiving and they got me in even though they were very busy. I also decided to get a pedicure in addition to getting my hair cut. I am new to Mountain View and walked in needing a haircut. I told the woman at the counter as well as the woman assisting me that I was pressed for time and just walked in for a regular guys haircut. I sat down and she said she needed to shampoo my hair first. I reluctantly got up and figured why not? It shouldn't take that much longer. After I sat down she started cutting my hair with dull scissors which hurt during the trim. She took her time and tried to upsell me on using the scissors for the entire time because it would look better and cost $5 extra dollars. Again I reiterated that I am pressed for time and just wanted a regular guys haircut. I looked up from my phone and realized she had started putting some type of product in my hair without asking. When I got to the counter to pay and leave she said that they only take cash on things under $30 dollars and my ""quick, regular guys haircut"" I had requested was only $25. I have never felt so refreshing walking out of a hair salon. Julie and her friendly staffs make you feel like home. There is a big flat screen TV, nice comfy leather sofa, great selection of trendy and upbeat music, good selection of magazines to read, and fridge load of free drinks. I went to Julie Q after reading some online reviews. I'm trying to grow out my hair and just wanted a minimal trim to keep them neat. They made me wait for 20 minutes despite having an appointment. The stylist assigned to me was Jennie, don't know why her scalp massage is so recommended -- I had to constantly tell her to not dig her long nails into my scalp. That's not the end of it, it gets worse. I specified clearly to Jennie that I 1. wanted just a minimal trim 2. did not want layers 3. did not want her to thin down the volume of my thick hair. She said yes yes, she understood. and then she went about butchering my hair and doing the exact opposite of what I wanted. She added front and back layers. She also thinned down the volume of my hair to 2/3rd of their original if not less. And she cut off a couple inches of length!! I was almost in tears after the cut. Jenni put me back 3-4 months. When I tried talking to her, she started screaming (yes, screaming) out loud at me and said that she did I told her to!! she said she could not let me get out of the salon without evening out my hair (her excuse for the layers and thinning down)...when I asked her to calm down and let me talk to the owner, she realized I meant business. she said the owner, Julie would be in the next day. So out of principal I returned the next day and explained my situation to Julie. atleast julie had the decency to apologize and offered me a free cut...how ironic! I walked out. I love the pedis! They spend about 30-45 mins on me when i get a pedicure compared to other places that take only 15 mins. They give me the best leg and foot massages. I know the tubs are clean because i have actually seen them scrub and clean them. Very close to work where i can go during my lunch break. Walk-ins are alway welcome. I usually get french pedis and i have been happy with every job they've done. Your feet will be feeling fresh, clean and beautiful after they're done with you! Read Less
