I love coming here. My gel nails last 3 to 4 weeks which has been great for me because it's not always easy to fit this into my schedule. It's nice to have the confidence that they'll last until the next time I'm able to come in. I do a lot of work with my hands so I'm always a little bit worried about ruining my nails, but every time Lien has done them I don't have to worry -- even if I'm sanding a table or digging in the garden. I have been here 3 times for manicure gel nails. All times as a walk-in. 2 times it was with Sam, and the last time it was with lien. All times were amazing, and since I've had great experiences consistently I felt it should write a review. The manicurists take their time - it may take up to about 45 minutes for a simple gel manicure. But the time is totally worth it. My nails have never looked better. Read Less

I'm from out-of-town, and Kim gave me a very nice pedicure for the Thanksgiving holiday.  The manicure wasn't great, but she offered to let me come back later in the day (since I had an appointment and had to leave) and they would fix it.  And, they did!  Leanne put polish on my nails later in the day, and it was perfect!  It was super convenient since I was going to get my hair done next door later in the day.  Thanks so much Kim and Leanne for making my nails look so nice for the holiday! Long overdue review of Excellent Nails! My sister and I went in and got gel manis. They did a great job, took their time, chatted with us, were friendly, and pricing is on par with other places in the area (a little cheaper than some). Their customer service and quality of nail care is great!PLUS: My gel mani weirdly turned an ugly ivory color after a couple days (it was light pink). I felt bad, but went back to ask if they could change it, expecting to pay at least some fee. Nope! They remembered me, knew I had chosen the pink color (remember the exact one, even), and completely re-did a gel mani on me for no cost at all. Amazing! They also made a note of it and took out that color. Really just great customer service.Unfortunately, I moved away for school, but you can bet that when I'm home, I'm going here for my nails! I asked if I could come at 7 with two friends. They asked if I could come at 6:30 instead, so I made the appointment for then. We got here at 6:30. It's now 7:15 and they haven't started my nails yet. They actually started my friend who is just getting a pedicure. I'm getting a gel manicure and regular pedicure and the other person is getting regular mani pedi. Update: 50 mins after I got here, they're just starting my nails. Update 2: 1 hour 10 mins in, they're just starting the 3rd person's toes Update 3: 1 hour 30 mins in, they're starting on the 3rd person's nails Last update: it's past 8pm and they're still doing my friend's nails. They're asking the other two of us to pay now since they want to go home. My guy kept turning around to look at the TV while painting my nails. One of the ladies blamed the long wait on one late client. The owner was there, but he just sat around the entire time, so it seems like this is normal. I obviously will not be back. Read Less

This is my first time coming here since I needed my nails done that exact day and my regular shop was unable to get me scheduled. For starters I got charged $46 for a refill. Now I don't mind paying more if the quality is going to be good (I normally pay $29). I asked to have my nails round shap but it seemed as though he didn't know what he was doing. All my nails are different lengths and I was there for at least 1 hour. He was really slow and kept hurting or making my nail burn. I wont be coming back again. Read Less

Got my nails done here for my wedding and they were perfect. Leann did a fantastic French tip gel manicure that still looked great over two weeks later. Went there on a Monday to get my nails done for our anniversary. Service was awesome. Lien actually owns the same Excellent Nails in San Carlos and now she just moved to Mountain View. Sam did my pedicures and he did a great job. He recommended the mint coated with a thin coat of sparkling. Love it! Anna did my manicures, and she paid attention to details. I wanted to visit here a few times before posting an official review. I have been getting my nails (your typical gel manicure/regular pedicure) for years now. I lived in Southern California previously for many years and had my "go to" salon, so moving to the bay was tough. I have spent my first year and a half here going to at least five or six different places, each one giving me an obvious reason not to return.A few months ago I came across Excellent Nails and Nancy gave me a pedicure. She was lovely, attentive, didn't push me to spend more than I wanted to, and made the entire experience lovely. I took it as a one off since my previous experiences elsewhere hadn't been great.So I came back again, trying to keep my hopes low. Lien took care of my gel manicure and Anna did my pedicure and I have to say I will never go anywhere else. The kind of service you get here is not something I've seen elsewhere. They are so kind, accommodating, professional, the environment is warm and welcoming. Every time I've come in, they've been so wonderful, asking me how I am, if I need water, etc. My nails last a very long time and it shows that Lien not only takes her time to perfect your nails, but makes them last so long. My birthday is the 4th of July and I came in to the nail salon wondering if they would roll their eyes at me wanting to do something a bit more complex, as this has happened to me at various other salons before. But Lien not only was happy to do what I requested but went the extra mile to add her own flare and I left so incredibly happy.These ladies and this salon is a gem and one of a kind. Excellent is an understatement for this nail salon! I called ahead to book an appointment and just by the way they answered I knew I was in for great service! I came in and they immediately began my pedicure, offered me something to drink and asked for my name again. They were so sweet, Leann and Lee both! We were having great conversation and they were so genuine! The attention to detail at this salon is impeccable, they were not letting me walk out of that door unless my nails were absolutely perfect. And they were! They took their time with my nails so if you're looking for something quick then this isn't the place for you. The prices were very reasonable, especially with the kind of service they provide! It's walking distance from where I'm living, I'll be here in Mountain View for 3 months and I will absolutely be coming back to Excellent Nails! I'm already dreading the day I have to leave and find a new nail salon. I wish I could take Leann and Lee and all of Excellent Nails with me! Truly one of the best salon experiences I've had so far! Don't be fooled! There is nothing excellent about this "nail salon". I'm only giving them one star because Yelp forces us to.  I needed to get an appointment to get a fill-in and a pedi. I called the day before to make an appointment because my regular shop is closed for reconstruction and this place is close to work. I think that this is going to be great because of the Yelp reviews.  I get there early and everything. When I see how affordable it is I think I can get a soak off and get a new set. So when the older lady tells me that it is time for my pedicure I let her know that I would like a fill in. I honestly didn't think it would be a big deal since it is only one other person in there and there are only two people working.  So as I am getting my polish removed off of my toes, I ask if we can begin soaking my nails off while I am getting the pedicure. The older lady says something to the younger women,  who then comes over and asks what I want I let her know I want a soak off with the American manicure. She  goes on to tell me that she can still do that with a fill in. I say, no I would like soak off. She then says why? I was shocked because of the tone that she said it and taken aback because most places give the customers what they want. I could tell that she was either lazy or TOO lazy to do it (yes, I meant to repeat it), so I said never mind I will just stick with the pedicure.  I could tell that they could tell I was upset as they tried to over talk to me offer me other services.  I was very tight lipped and only responded with the required pleasantries of thank you or no thank you etc.My pedicure was just as bad. The water was cold, I asked for warmer. I wasn't even given a chance to soak my feet before she started working on them. The description says that we get a 15 minute massage so I was excited. Needless to say the older lady did not massage me...she simply rubbed my legs. This is my favorite place for pedicures in Mountain View. It's clean, they sterilize tools and use liner foot baths, they have a great selection of OPI polish, they're really nice and do a great job consistently. They have lots of my favorite options available (sugar scrub, paraffin, hot stone massage, massage chairs), and get your feet incredibly smooth. Great location on Castro, towards the heart of downtown, but far enough from the rush (hopefully you can find parking).I was a walk-in and was treated to a friendly greeting and immediately seated. Great price (I got a basic manicure, $15) and Kim had great attention to detail. I had a small cut on one of my fingers that she was gentle with and worked around, no stings from the alcohol or any products. Because it is autumn she warmed the lavender lotion, it was very pleasant and relaxing. Additionally, she was kind and made me feel attended to, even offered me tea and coffee.There was music in the background; no tv, but I prefer it that way.Space was clean and well kept from what I saw. This used to be Gorgeous Nails but have had major upgrade and renovations. Same sweet women work here and they are always in a cheerful mood. (Don't be bothered by their constant chatter in their native language). I love their pedicures and the care they put into smoothing my feet with their dermal tool as needed. I think they prefer cash, which I do my best to bring. Very reasonably priced. It can take long when getting both mani and pedi but time well spent. Only 4 days later and my pedi chipped.  I can tell the polish is intentionally thinned out. Massage felt like nothing.  And my nail was clipped to short, hurt for a week, I've never had that happen at a place.  Lastly, I had a gift card they didn't except no exp date on it and by CA Law gift cards never expire!  Bad business, your really willing to not forgo $20 to have me never come back and leave this review.  I didn't want to leave a bad review but when that many things are bad about the experience and the polish chipped that was the final straw besides not honoring my gift card.  I'm super disappointed in this place by far. Just had a Gelish Mani/Pedi at Excellent Nails on Castro. I walked in intending to just have a Mani as it was 6.30 and they close at 7.30. Luckily two technicians were free to work on me at the same time. They were both meticulous with the nail prep, spent an hour soaking off my old Shellac and prepped my nails to perfection. They both took their time to apply the Gelish carefully and followed up with a lovely warm hot stone massage. Highly recommend this clean & friendly salon. Read Less
