I was here today when one customer was verbally abusive towards another customer who was across the way. I am not one to be offended easily, but I found it to be extremely offensive! The lady was yelling obscenities across the nail salon when their were children present. Not much was done by the staff, which made me feel unsafe. I complained and I received an apology on behalf of the salon. The apology did not feel sincere. Ive gone here once before and the owner had done a wonderful job on my nails i went there as a treat fir my birthday last tuesday to get my nails and toes done an got horrible service! My toes are horrible the paint is thick in some places so thin in other place that its see through and for my nails some arent shaped even, they are crooked lumpy an done very sloppy. Pedicure was not complete. Only two of my toe nails were trimed, she never used an orange stick or anything to clean underneath the nail, she brushed to clean and only brushed a few strokes, she never used a file. When she scrubbed my soles she hardly pressed, I had to ask her to do it again. She did not do my cuticles. When her boss came by he told her to get the polish off the cuticle so she got her brush out and cleaned them up. They rush too much I understand they want to provide a fast pace service and be able to take all walk ins but they don’t even do such a great job because of how fast they are trying to finish up the job. They quickly do your nails they hurt my nails so bad from just rushing and quickly filing them and cutting my cuticles that they were bleeding and they were sore the next day. I thought I try it out a few more times and each time was worse, yes their prices are cheap, but I rather pay a bit more somewhere else where they take their time to make my toes and nails look really nice. I had to correct them plenty of times on my pedi and they would get bothered or just quickly go over it instead of redoing it because it takes more time you can just see how they are all rushing like if they have a time limit. While i used to be frustrated with the semi rushed feel, since going to the spa side I've received nothing short of excellent service and now even appreciate that i don't have to spend a great deal of time getting a wonderful job done. David lee has chosen to staff both salons with quality workers that always meet my sometimes odd requests which have included massaging one leg more than the other to adding glitter to an already glistening polish. If i could rate this disgusting place it would be negative stars. I have never been in a more unsanitary nail salon, I'm surprised I didn't get a infection. The women who did my nails cut me multiple times and when I told her my nails were crooked she replied "that's just the shape of your finger. I told her multiple times she was being way to rough and she ignored. Even her own workers were telling her to fix my nails because she was doing such a horrible job.. and WAIT, it gets even better ! Overall she did a horrible job I was shocked on how rushed and dirty the place was. After she finished my nails my fingers were still bleeding. I asked to talk to the owner David, who is indescribably RUDE.. David said "I will give u 3 dollars off" As I was shocked I replied "I'm not paying for these these are horrible and I'm bleeding from my hand".. the lady who did my nails then yanked my arm and tried to CUT MY NAILS OFF. I then yanked my hand back and she still continued to try and yank my hand why yelling "you no pay then I cut your nail off". Trust me this is SHOCKING and disgusting. Good customer service will not make their customers pay for getting cut , and HORRIBLE crooked nails. They also will never TOUCH their customers. I'm 2 steps away from suing. I'm thinking about it . Horrible place, I came in only because most nail salons in town where closing. They rushed my entire appointment leaving me with thick acrylic nails. They did not attempt to be friendly or make conversation while doing my nails they chose to make fun of each customer leaving in their language  it was so sad and unprofessional. When I first came in a lady was helping me decide on a color and ask me questions she was assigned to do my nails but she asked me questions in a very rude manner then sent me over to someone else clearly showing she did not want to do my nails I could even see her go to her coworker and talk about me. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life this nail salon has the worst service in town they need to learn how to treat people and do a better job and nails. i will NEVER over my dead body ever go back or refer anyone. Do NOT come here for waxing! The lady that waxed me kept reusing the stick AND wax strip. I told her not to double dip and use a new strip and she just flat out ignored me!! so gross and i will not come back to this place. whoever has had this problem please report it to the state board because it's very unsanitary!! I'm going to review the pedicures given by the young lady "vicki" ...shes awesome I'm very pregnant and reaching my feet is just a joke at this point. She gave a great massage each toe got some TLC my legs feel so much better  I got the $25 package it's just enough. Getting the bigger packages would be very nice but this worked great for me.  I'm so relaxed. The environment is calming as well I'm surprised I didn't fall asleep. They are so clean here and sanitary that's always great to see in places like this. Don't get me started on the chairs you get to sit in O.M.G. they are amazing best massage chairs of ever sat in no joke. There is even a spot to snuggle your arms in and it will massage them too. Horrible!! I went in for a gel fill and it was the worst service. The nail tech was so fast and rough, she cut me twice and never apologized. Very disappointed with my experience at this salon. Took my daughter to get nails for special occasion and paid $40. In my opinion it was $40 to much. Several times my daughter had to explain design theme and had to explain how to shape nails. Some nails were thicker than others, some weren't even correct shape. The under side of nails weren't even finished still had acrylic unfinished. When asked to have fixed no one could help us or understood what to do. WILL NOT GO BACK AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I have enjoyed several pedicures here in the past but this time was awful!!! The girl that did my pedicure (Jill) was so rude and was obviously talking about me!! After I informed her I had Shilac on my toes she began to try to peel it off instead of soaking them in foil. When I asked her to soak instead of peeling it off since it takes nail off she was very Visibly upset. I have been coming here for almost a year now and I love Donnie and Moui. But I call and make appts because I come on my lunch and lately I have been leaving with out getting the service done! Why make an appt if it's not going to be honored! I realize that I am but one person who can be replaced with 10 but I tip 10 bucks every time and I never give my guys a bad time about anything! I am not one to write reviews... I am also someone who worked in the service industry for 7 years, so I get it, everyone has bad days. I want to start off by saying my pedicure was fantastic! I loved the service and color. However; when I got my nails done it was a different story. I get an acrylic overlay on my natural nails with a gel polish. Nothing crazy. My nails coming in to the salon were long, grown out versions from my last manicure from a different salon. Not only did Henry basically rip off my old acrylic, but he ripped my natural nail! THEN he cut them so incredibly short they hurt now. The new acrylic is uneven and sharp on the corners. I can't wait for them to grow to a normal length and go back to my other place. I can see why a lot of people give back reviews but, as I have come to realize. This place is not a place you book for an "event" or a relaxing pedicure. I think of a $15 dollar pedicure as YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET. If you want someone to take their time and cater to you then go to another salon. Or even the David Spa. But this place I think of it as I need a pedicure and only have 30 min. If you feel that you need any extra scrubbing or a nail is done incorrectly I agree on saying something while you are there. I went in for the first time yesterday I noticed they were fairly busy, but they did get us seated really fast. My friend asked if we could be seated together and they gave her a blank stare and said no. I did feel really rushed and not relaxed because the nail tech just seemed to be zooming by everything. The whole process for gel manicure was about 20min. She was polite and I was pleased with my nails in the end. If you want an in and out service this is the place to come if you want a relaxing place to get your nails done with a friend I don't recommend this place. Overall I would say I would visit this place again I just don't know that it would be my first choice.Update: I have been back since my last review and I found a wonderful nail tech named Yen she does a great job is friendly and gets you in and out. I still do stand by my initial review as I don't come here to relax because it's too busy and too much going on, but when my nails are in need of some love asap I do like to come here. Read Less

I was treating my mom to a Mother's Day gift. They didn't clean her nails. The lady serving my mom wasn't in uniform and didn't have a name tag & didn't know what she was doing(unprofessional). I have been going to David's for many years, but last month was the last time for me.  I had arrived around 8:30am and had to wait for a manicurist which was no problem at all. She arrived in a matter of minutes.  Being that I am a regular for shellac manicure I had to have my shellac soaked to remove.  I believe the manicurist name is Tricia or station 11, took out a bowl from underneath her station and wanted me to soak my nails in acetone that had been in there from the previous night and had pink nail shavings left behind from the last person! I said no and she simply poured out the old and put in New acetone. No cleaning or replacing of the bowl.  I should have said I wanted a new bowl, but didn't.  She also over did it when clipping and cleaning up my cuticle which left my thumb looking raw and red for days. When you go in to David's during the week there is a lot of down time for employees. I would suggest during this down time that the owner has his employees cleaning their stations thoroughly and by that I do not mean by vacuuming! I also went in once for a pedicure and had a young girl. She said she was in high school and she was just in town visiting! I would assume this teenage girl did not have a license to be working in this salon.  Nails by Stephen is much smaller and just down the street.  They do an awesome pedicure and are now using the disposable foot tub bags which makes it so much more sanitary. Poor polish selection.  Terrible pedicure.  Rushed.  All my nails are crooked, length does not match.  Polish bubbled.  I had to remove & re-polish myself that evening. Do not waste your money! Worse service ever! I went with my niece, spent $60 on two manicures. This was at the spa side of the business. Neither one of us got a hand massage, and the gel polish was so sloppy, we left and she had polish on the finger, and her her nails weren't done properly! Went back to get them fixed, had to wait over 20 min and they talked in a different language and gave us side eye the whole time! Do not go to this place. I strongly dislike this place. The service is always rushed and they are extremely rude. If they do something you don't like and you voice it, they get bothered and say it's okay.Today, this guy name Moui(the assistant manager) was rushing and was being rude to my baby sister and ended up cutting her. He did NOT bother apologizing and acted like it was okay to just have her bleeding. My mom and I spoke to David, he made it seem like it was nothing and as if was okay for his employees to treat paying customers like trash! I went to this salon years ago, so I was excited to try it again with my gift certificate. It was too noisy, rushed, the paraffin was in a tub - who knows how many feet had been in it. The BEST nail shop in Modesto...... I love going to this nail shop. Everytime I walk in the door David has something new..... a new spa chairs, customer waiting chairs, new flat screen TV's......whatever. If it's going to make the customer happy, feel more relaxed, comfortable.... then David is going to do it! I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else in Modesto. I have been going to David to have my nails done for 20 plus years. I would recommend his salon to anyone and the negative comments on here about his salon are total BS. I have been with David when he was at A Plus Nails, then he went to Wild Hair where he partnered because he always wanted his own salon. He always wanted to OWN his own business and his customer's come first, their satisfaction is his main concern and he wants their experience to be a happy one so that everyone that walked through the door would come back. When a person breaks a nail, it's always free to fix...if something isn't right David makes sure his employees fixes it right, the way YOU want it. If you don't speak up he doesn't know your not happy. David is the only one that has done my nails but I've had Lisa do my pedicures she was the bomb but sadly she's gone, but Michael, Cindy, James, are good right now I have Kenny doing it. I've never seen one of David's employee's stop to speak with their client while working on a client in their chair.... he wouldn't put up with that. Not the way he is on them to make sure the person in their chair is happy..... once again BS! I agree with the person that said ""you would never make them happy"". NailsByDavid is the BOMB! This place is AWFUL! NEVER go here! They heard people in-and-out like cattle! I asked SPECIFICALLY for Gel nails, NOT ACRYLICS, I told both David, (the owner), and the lady who did my nails (Rose) specifically that I did not want acrylics, and David sat by and watched Rose give me acrylics. She did an awful job on them and one even fell off a week later while I was putting on my shoes!! I went in the day after and complained that she did not give me gels like I asked, told David that I was going out of town, and he said I could come back after and they'd fix it and only charge me the difference. WELL I called him after I got back and he told me it had been THREE weeks, it had been a week and a half and said he could only give me a "$10 discount" and wanted to charge me $40 for a mistake THEY made in the first place! This place has the worst customer service i have ever experienced ! First i was there for 3 hours for a mani and pedi (mani was shellac) while they were working on me they would stop if one of their clients would walk in and chat with them for at least 5 min and then forget where they left on my shellac manicure. this place is a joke during my 3 hour wait i couldnt help but notice client after client for pedicures without disinfecting ughh someone should call CAL OSHA on these people .in addition... there is only one person that knows how to do shellac there and he was very rude. i would rather pay 50 dollars for a manicure than to ever go back to this place ever again. Many years ago I went to David's before the salon was this big. Seeing it grow is impressive. The lady who did my nails was friendly and fast. She did exactly what I asked her to do. Also she checked to make sure the nails on each hand matched in length. (It's amazing how many don't!!!) Have a degree in Business Admin (with marketing as part of that education) I would recommend STICKING to appointment times to make a customer feel more valuable. Plus being over packed is not a relaxing environment. The wait was not bad considering how busy it was. My nails turned out great. I did not have to sit there two hours as the employee was experienced. I will definitely go back again - next time I will make time for a pedicure! Thanks! Read Less

I showed up to a nail appointment at 7am (THERE STORE HOURS STATED ON THE DOOR AND BY SOMEONE ON THE PHONE THAT THEY OPEN AT 7AM!!!). I waited an HOUR and the owner finally shows up. When I tell him I've been waiting since 7am he tells me 'oh well I had a kid to drop off at school'. I told him well why does your sign say you open at 7am, and he tells me its by appointment when thats NOT what I was told on the phone. He told me I was going to have to wait an ADDITIONAL 15-20 minutes (making it 0830) because his workers don't show up by then. I asked him why he couldnt do my nails, and he said because he was busy opening up. Then he tells me he wasn't going to hear my complaint and that he has plenty of customers throughout the area, that he's NUMBER ONE in the MODESTO BEE and I could either come in or he was going to close the door on me. The prices are acceptable, but why would anyone want to go to a nail salon where the owner is even has poor customer service and is arrogant and rude. He should have apologized, but instead decided to remark to me how he's number one in the city and losing one customer wouldn't be a big deal. He lost on a $50 sale today. Read Less

I had gotten my nails done there a couple of times and I would walk out in pain. I was initially impressed because it seemed like a high tech nail salons with cameras and headphones, but I really feared I would get an infection. The sanitary practices (or lack thereof) concern me. It seriously is a chop shop getting clients in and out. The nail techs always seem rushed and would end up cutting my fingers up. Nails by David Lee is granted cheaper than the rest of the nail shops around in Modesto but their service is definitely below standard. David's employee worked on my nails and got me out of there in about 45 minutes. However after two days, my nails looked like it as if needed refills already. Of course anybody that has been going to Nails by David for at least 6 months or more will have something positive to say. At that point your considered a long time customer. Who can pay with checks and debit cards even. What about NEW customers?? My experience with Nails by David was a waste of time. This guy thinks he's in Beverly Hills or something with his cordless headset on and monitors to keep track of his crew and customers. The worst part, was that my manicure only last 1 day and then started to chip. Seriously it was like my 10 year old niece did my manicure. My friend had a pedicure and hers started chipping after 2 days. She was disappointed that the pedicure litterlly lasted like 15 minutes. For the reason that he had customers left and right coming and going. He talks to people like we're there taking up his time and that he's the only place in this whole city that does nails. He talks to his crew and totally bosses them around like if he'll take their tips if they don't get the customer done and out in 15 minutes or less. Needless to say, Nails by David is TRULLY based on QUANITY not QUALITY, therefore has a reputaion of really bad customer service. The only good thing about Nails by David, is that his prices are low. So you pretty much get what you paid for. Bad customer service at a great price. Who wouldn't want that, right?? Well not me and everyone else I have shared my experince with. However everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If your all about good customer service and getting a good manicure or pedicure, then Nails by David ISN""T for you. I am a visitor from out of town, and chose this place based on recommendations from this website. I was highly disappointed with the service. Not only did the staff rush through the pedicure, but also, nicked my toe. Then, when I wanted to pay with my debit card, I was told I was unable to do so, despite the fact that the sign in the window said VISA was accepted there. I was then forced to use the ATM machine inside the nail salon, and charged an extra $2.00 for doing so. When I visit again, I will not be returning here. Read Less
