Taylor gave me a really great cut including some short bangs to freshen my look which I love! She also used a technique to cut my hair which uses a razor. It really lightens your hair and getting gives a great shape. My first time at Base Color Bar was today and it won't be my last. All of the great reviews about the salon and the staff are totally accurate.I have been going to the same salon for many years and was afraid to try a new place but now I wish that I had come here sooner. I don't use anything but organic products on my hair and the color and shampoo used here fit the bill.My color (ammonia-free) is perfect and the gloss (totally worth the small extra price) left my hair shiny and smooth.  Last but not least I can't say enough about the kindness and professionalism of Diego who applied the color and Haleh the owner. I was so pleased at Base Color Bar on San Vicente Blvd. At first I didn’t know what expect but I was delightfully surprised . Sophia was my operator and she knew exactly what she was doing. She kept checking with me to see if I was comfortable or needed any direction or refreshment etc. Her personality was so sweet and down to earth. The salon is immaculate with products, dryers and brushes for your use. This will definitely be my place for color and comfort! I have been going to Base for over a year and I love it! All the colorists are great! They have your color info on file just in case your regular colorist is not available. I am not a planner so it is easy to book a last minute appointment. They can blow dry your hair for you or you can go to the bar and they have the tools you need to dry your own. I highly recommend! This place is exactly what it says it is. I go in and get my roots done and each week get the same color.  I LOVE that I don't feel obligated to pay extra for this or that, even though they upsell they won't do it to the point of it feeling salesy.  I don't have one particular colorist I go to as everyone there seems to be consistent.I LOVE the option to self dry my hair and they even provide a great little dry bar area with product and amazing hair dryer and brushes.  If all you need are your roots touched up - this is the place to go.  Totally affordable too. Let me start out by saying I had an appointment for a blow out at Drybar downstairs, and they completely messed up and for some reason their system didn't have it showing. All they said was that they were unable to get me in, and that I should try Base Color Bar upstairs. I was completely freaking out knowing that it was a Saturday and I'm SURE they were booked but I needed my hair done for an event that night. When I went in they were busy with clients, but were so accommodating and actually were able to do my hair. I waited 10 minutes for them, but then they made me feel like I was top priority! Pros: Friendly Staff, Hair looked good.Cons: Always running late - not just late, half hour late. They tell you it will be 10 minutes when they should be honest and say 30 minutes. Also, they don't have enough people to staff the shop. Your timer goes off and there's nobody available to wash your hair. How does this happen? If I'm to sit for 45 minutes, yes I'm going to be worried about my color when I have to sit an additional 10 minutes to wait for someone to wash it out. Great concept, but need to make sure you hire enough help and don't overbook those that are working. Read Less

Haleh did an excellent job of matching my old base color to the new color.  Emily did an amazing job with my blow dry and shampoo.  The 4 star rating is due to the 30 minute wait past my appointment time. Haleh did apologize for the delay saying they got very busy but the salon needs to be able to handle booked appointment times and walk-ins.  I will go back because my hair did come out really nice - but only booking the first appointment of the day because as other reviewers have said they seem to run late in the afternoon. My high hopes were dashed pretty early on, even though I really wanted to love this place. Pros: -Nice facility-Friendly staff-Great conceptCons:-They overestimated how many clients they could serve, didn't seem to be staffed adequately, and started my hair 25 minutes late-Even though they were already scrambling to juggle all the seated women, walk-ins were still being accommodated (effectively making everyone even later)-Caveat emptor- and they DO post their prices, so I accept responsibility- but it felt awfully "upsalesy" when I realized that I had been encouraged to do what was in essence two dye jobs- a "gloss" for the bulk of my hair and the dye with ammonia for the area nearer the roots. Point being, I was changed for both, which could have been made clear to me at the time. It should have also been pointed out that this would add to the length of my appointment. I would consider coming back, as I really do like the concept and thought the women who worked there were nice. It irritated me, though, to have been assured by both the booking woman over the phone as well as the colorist that my 1:30 appointment would have me on my way out the door by 3:00...I had to dash out with sopping wet, not-fully-rinsed hair at 3:30. I was excited to try a new brentwood place, and the reviews were great so I gave it a shot. The front desk staff and the lady who rinsed my hair were sooooo sweet so I want to be fair to them.  Bottom line I really wanted to like this place but its not for me. The stylist wasn't really interested in doing my hair  kept wandering off to chat with another customer...leaving me trapped in the salon chair wondering what the ** was going on....I got rinsed and then ....nothing. I was so thrilled to see all the great reviews for this Base Color Bar on Yelp. It sounded brilliant! I thought I had a new go-to place. I went there with great excitement, and -- as requested in their confirmation email -- I made sure to come 5 minutes early. (I loved that! A business that valued my time, and theirs!)So what did I have to show for my punctuality, 20 minutes later? 18 minutes of sitting, ignored, in a cold, damp smock, that's what.And...that's when I left.To be fair, the stylist that I was assigned to -- who never checked on me, or gave a damn about keeping me waiting, and who shrugged "Bye" when I walked out  -- has not been mentioned by name in any of these glowing Yelp reviews. Maybe if I'd been booked with Chris or Haleh, whose names I've seen here over and over, this would have been a 5-star review. Don't be intimidated by the luxurious decor and genetically gifted staff, BASE color is a very reasonably priced hidden gem!!The whole team and owner (who takes clients) are absolutely lovely. The pay by service concept is absolutely brilliant! Why aren't other salons doing this? It's perfect for busy people who may need to get in and out quickly, especially moms. Dry your own hair at the fully stocked dry bar station for no extra charge! The option is still there for a professional blowout, for a reasonable fee. The book on line feature is time saver too. I love getting my roots done here! So affordable and lately I need them done more often ...lol. So it defiantly helps with such a good price of $49 dollars and gloss at $25. I was SO happy to discover this salon. Sometimes all you need is just a root touch up, but you don't want to be the ridiculous prices most places charge. Here you can pay $49 for your root touch up and be 100% happy & satisfied. From the moment you walk in the door, you're greeted with a friendly smile and an offer for something to drink. They actually started me early which is unheard of at most places. I forgot the name of my colorist but I believe she is the owner. Such a friendly and talented woman, she matched my color great and worked fast.After my color was done, I opted to have my hair blown out by Chris (you don't have to have to do this extra...you can blow dry yourself with their tools & products for free). Chris did an amazing blow out. After I left, I got 4 compliments  that my hair looked nice & super shiny. Can't wait to go back & I can't wait to spread the word about this place. 5 Stars!!! Base color bar... My oh my what to say!Chris not only ruled my world with his attitude but also changed my bleach blonde to luscious dark red. Ive never felt so safe with my hair at any other salon nor ever walked out feeling so confident as I flowed my healthy hair in the wind.
