My bride-to-be brought me here because it's more inexpensive and the students are learning their trade in "live" subjects. I was impressed with our instructor by how much she was training her pupil and by how much she let her perform in her own. If you want to contribute to the learning of others and you want a good hair cut/color at a very good price then this is the place for you. Read Less

I went here in June for a full leg wax and as usual they waxed up to my panty line (I have been getting full leg waxed for about 40 years).  Today I went in and the new instructor Tina says that a full leg only goes up to 1/2 of the thigh and the top of the thigh is a bikini wax  which is $25.00 more.  Tina was very rude.  I told her that a full leg wax goes to the panty line and that is how they always did it there. She just said too bad that is not how they do it now and if I didn't stop complaining she was going to throw me out.. I am getting so tired of getting ripped off by companies that keep reducing services.  I even went online and it says a full leg wax goes to,the panty line. I think the instructor Tina needs instructions on what a full wax entails.  I hope Advanced Beauty College gets rid of Tina.  Customers should never be insulted by the staff. Read Less

I just started school here and I couldn't be more pleased with my choice. The instructors are fun, but no nonsense, and the variety of teaching styles is so refreshing. I saw some reviews where a student said that they just sit and read out of a textbook. That couldn't be further from the truth. Miss V and Miss Shaunda (sp?) aren't the type to just read out of a book. I am a housewife and decided to go to school later in life. I was worried I was going to feel lost and alienated. Everyone is approachable and wants to help and answer any questions you might have. Lauren who is in charge of student services is really there for you. Linda is another top dog and she is on top of everything. There are quite a bit of students but they remember your name and that means a lot. The facility is unlike none other and is impressive in and of itself. This school isn't messing around. I looked at the other schools and especially graduation rate and the numbers don't lie. This school is a really fun place it go with friends! The facial I got here was absolutely amazing and I will be going back. Bailey did a great job! The price is unbeatable. My friends and I got facials, blowouts, manicures, and pedicures for only $55! So it's perfect for anyone on a budget. Of course these are students providing the services so they are still learning. Advance Beauty College is one of those places that offers services for both and women, and is deserving of praise; in this case not only for the quality of their work, but an exceedingly high level of customer service after the initial service. On 01/27/2017, my youngest... daughter went into Advance for a change of color to her hair. She intended to return to her normal hair color, but after a lengthy and detailed consultation with both student and instructor, the decision was made to take on one last coloration before the return to her natural medium brown hair. Color was completed and the hair initially looked Fantastic!!! It was a beautiful metallic blue that transitioned into a soft platinum silver. About three days into the color, and having followed instructions to a "T", we noticed her color fading into a gray/silver green, not the silvery gray we'd expected. One week to the day, I called the school to see about a remedy for the situation. I was told we were at the one week period where touch-ups or repairs would be made as a courtesy, and without charge. I explained that my daughter had an event to attend in two days, and that we would not be available to return on that 1-week deadline day for corrections. Without a moment's hesitation, the manager asked if we could come in on Friday and that they would gladly correct the color issues as a courtesy (I won't even go into the school fitting both my daughters into the schedule on that Saturday morning for "up-dos" for their formal dance.) Considering this is a beauty school, I feel like the students are not being supervised/taught very well. I've come here for two services in the past and I've hated it every time.1st time Balayage: I had three girls working on my hair at one time. I showed them my pinterest board of what I was looking for and trusted their creativity and knowledge to give me what I was looking for. WHAT A MISTAKE. First of all, I was quoted $75 by the instructor before I started and then midway through applying the color, they had to add on another $10 because they ran out of product and needed to charge me more. That's pretty unfair. So the haircoloring was a complete MESS.  One girl was there just holding my hair up when it was already clipped (poorly.)  Then another student was coloring one side of my hair while the other was doing the other side. So basically I was getting two different hair coloring jobs. They kept asking their instructor what to do and seemed very unsure.  Not to mention, they didn't speak much English...so I had no idea what they were talking about, but the confused looks on their faces gave it away.  The three girls kept leaving out pieces of my hair and I had to point out that I didn't want forgotten chunks of uncolored hair.  Into the dyer and then toned...my hair came out ORANGE and looked like it was black roots with an orange dye job.  They then curled my hair in some really small ringlets and I just about wanted to cry.  I tried to like it, but I found it really difficult.2nd time Gel Manicure: I read the description online and thought it could be a good alternative to going to the normal nail salon.  WRONG.  First of all, there was no supervisor when the girls were doing my nails and they flat out told us they were just making up some hours of school they missed that week. My student said she hates doing nails and it's her least favorite part. Well, there goes all my confidence out the door.  The two girls had to keep asking each other what step was next and really seemed unsure of the whole thing. Where was their instructor?  They don't cut the cuticles, which I'm happy they don't bc she would forsure have cut me.  When it came to filing my nails, she half assed it and it was all crooked.  I ended up filing them myself bc she said she wasn't good at it and gave up.  Then, as she was painting, she painted side to side, rather than the length of the nail and got the gel all over my skin.  I was so upset I just wanted her to hurry and finish so I could leave.  When she was done, she was really unprofessional and started painting her nails in front of me while I was waiting for my sister to be done. I couldn't stand the lack of effort and terrible job, so I went home, removed the gel, and redid them myself.Moral of Story: Pay the extra money and go to a legit nail or hair salon.  Even with the low cost, it's not even worth the discount to get services done here. First off, I have never written a negative review on Yelp before but I was so disappointed by my haircut I felt I had to. I bought a deep conditioning, haircut, and blowout on Groupon. I'm not sure if it was only the lady I got (her name was Elli) but she wasn't friendly and never asked me what I wanted when the other ladies that worked there seemed to be really friendly. The conditioning went fine but once she started to cut my hair (I had to tell her that I bought a haircut because she started drying my hair and wasn't going to cut it) she was clearly irritated that I bought a haircut and was annoyed she had to cut my hair. I told her I understood if she didn't have time to cut it (even though that's what I made an appointment for) and I could come back some other time. She continued to be very rough to my head and didn't put any effort into combing my hair without yanking my hair and I felt she was purposely rushing through my hair to get it done. She asked how I wanted it cut and I was scared with how it would turn out so I said "just a trim" how can you mess up a trim?! Well, she managed to do it! I was seriously almost in tears looking in the mirror and this means a lot coming from me since I'm not attached to my hair at all. It looked SO bad. My hair was uneven on the bottom and all choppy and she chopped the front of my hair off like I had uneven long bangs (which I NEVER asked for or had before) I immediately made a haircut appointment with my haircut lady in Washington State to fix my hair. This haircut was not even worth the $25 Groupon. I will never recommend this place to friends and I am still disappointed when I look in the mirror and I got my haircut over two weeks ago. I can't straighten my hair because of how horrible it looks. I've been having to wear it up or curled to hide the unevenness and the chunks she cut in the front of my face. Luckily I'm getting it fixed in 3 weeks but I shouldn't have to!I'm such an easy person to please and I never write bad reviews even if I'm not happy with a place. No one even came to watch Elli cut my hair or check her off when she was done. It is a hair school! Someone is supposed to be managing the place and making sure people are doing a good job. I didn't even expect my haircut to be great... but I also didn't expect it to be the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I'm another esthetician who could literally write a book about my entire experience here, but I'm going to do my best to just provide the facts and not let my emotions about this place get the best of me (good luck).You are getting what you pay for if you're attending this school through Saddleback College. The school is clean, contemporary, and has fairly good commodities for the students, but you will have to pretty much prepare your own damn self for your state board exam and deal with the pettiest and most unprofessional staff. Ever.I can only recall two or three times when we went over state board material when it was scheduled (supposed to be every Tues). All other times we were in a cold classroom being read to from a textbook by an inexperienced instructor (which I can clearly do myself and not pay more than 2 grand for) or repping dermalogica in the treatment room for their sales. Oh yeah, and might I add when there WASN'T an instructor, AT ALL for some DAYS, we literally did nothing. Paid to go to school, work for free doing facials, and learn nothing. For some reason this place cannot hold onto an esthetics instructor; it's like a revolving door. Not to mention it was very illegal for us to be taking clients with literally no other licensed professional around, but I guess Lin and Tam need all the money they can get being partnered with a community college and all. I could write a paragraph about each administrator or "director" of the school, but I'll just say that if you DO still plan to go here, just know that Linda (who only has experience as a manicurist) will probably be rude as hell to you if English isn't your first language and be ready to take orders from the 21 year old party girl Taylor (who is unlicensed and hired to be the DIRECTOR of the school right out of the cosmetology program. Wtf?) And don't even get me started on Suzette. She's undoubtedly a tweaker and takes it as a personal insult if you bring outside eyelash extension materials into the school. She's probably too stupid to do them herself I suppose, so don't be surprised when she tells you to stop doing productive things with your time. Oh yeah, and one of the instructors was let go for leaving her dog in her car while she worked. They sure hire some gold stars here. I recently graduated from the Esthetician program, and let me just say, it's not worth the 600 hrs. The Summer semester students started in May - they were at 200 hours when I graduated - and are ready to quit. This is a for-profit school. Administrative staff is run by a bunch of (I would say headless chickens but that would be an insult) idiots who don't know shit from their own crap. Rules change every single week. AND YOU HAVE TO SPEND YOUR OWN MONEY IF YOU WANT TO USE THE SCHOOLS WAX. No, you can't bring in your own due to liability issues... So how else are we going to learn? We paid the tuition + school kit for a reason.The school kit should not be worth $1800, esp if the Dermalogica Kit costs $500 on its own. As for the remaining $1300, I can only assume it was purchased at the 99 cent store. The school also offers a monthly student store - which are expired products sold to us at 20% off retail - products that the school is unable to sell to customers. Yes, expired, crusty smelly, leaking products that have been sitting in the supply closet for who knows how long.OH, did I forget to mention? The administrative staff can take away your hours when they want and not tell you. So when you're about to graduate you're smacked in the face with "No, you have another 4 hrs." Linda: the chain smoker - has no customer service whatsoever. She has never once smiled when anyone talks to her. If she does, you can tell it's a forced smile. Rude and disgusting; judgmental the minute you look at her.Natalie: The noob. All of her answers are "I don't know. I don't know." Why the fudge are you working here if you can't answer a simple question? There's no point in scheduling an appointment for me to come in and then you leave and have someone else do your job for you. And I cannot take you seriously with your terribly dyed, pink hair. Taylor: Her accent that goes in and out - so you're always wondering to yourself if she's really from England. The one person that made everyone's life horrible because she can't do her job. I shouldn't have to take orders from a 21 year old who doesn't show me or any of the other Esthetician students respect. Do yourself a favor and STOP smoking in front of the campus. No everyone wants to die from second-hand smoke.The instructor(s) I did get along with. Show them respect and they will do the same - that's just common sense. I can tell they're overworked... hardcore because the rules keep changing every week. Their monthly staff meeting consists of them reading a Yelp reviews and figuring out ways to improve. Here's my advice: Get a new administrative team who knows what they're doing and knows how to smile!!! The current staff should get a job as a Walmart greeter and learn to say "Hi. How are you?" Instead of "yes? What do you want?" - yes, that's how disrespectful they are. Because of them my final days at this school were miserable.They're never clear with what they want or need, and act like 14 yr olds PMSing cause they aren't getting their way or if we ask too many questions. I don't know how much I have to say it but seriously, go someplace else. It's not worth your insanity. Otherwise, the Esthetician Students are discriminated here.You have to clock in and out - so when the machine breaks down, you literally have to harass the administrative staff to get those hours otherwise 6 months pass by and they haven't done shit. Other than that, I did enjoy my time here at Advance Beauty College. I learned the facial basics, and paid extra for the Image Skincare Chemical Peels class (so worth it). I have made lifelong friends (in which we can all network with in the future). I just wished they offered eyelash extensions and Microdermabrasion ... Otherwise, go someplace for your school. I came here because of a groupon for a haircut, deep conditioning and blow out. Even though they are students, I thought why not, how can you mess up a haircut? (Especially if you are studying how to do hair and other beauty related things, a haircut should be one of the easiest.) The shampoo and conditioning were great, I don't think I had any problems with that. However it was the haircut that ended up awful. I asked for 3 inches trim, and the final cut ended up being around 6-7 inches cut off. The cut looked as if the hair was cut in a straight line rather than natural looking, and even if it was cut straight, there were some pieces that were like half an inch longer than the other pieces. I tried to ask the stylist to fix it before I left, but I couldn't exactly word what I didn't like about it and plus, I didn't want her cutting off more huge chunks of my already short hair.The girl doing my hair also wasn't very friendly... She sat me down and then disappeared at the beginning for a while, and I had no idea what was going on. Very minimal conversation except for a few words like "follow me" or "tilt your head down." Obviously, being friendly is in no way necessary, but it's good for making the hour or several that the customer is there feel less uncomfortable.I know they are students, but there is a sign that says they are supervised. The only amount of supervision I noticed was one of the supervisors stopping by a total of two times and commenting "looks great" after a quick glance and then they walked away. Thankfully, hair will grow back out, so I'm glad I only got a haircut and not something more permanent like a balayage or something.The prices here aren't even that cheap, except it was okay since I had the groupon. But I have been to places that gave me a much better haircut for the same price. The actual facility is fantastic though, large, clean and beautiful, so two stars for that. Read Less

It's been so long since I cut my hair that I no longer have a regular stylist anywhere, so I went here recently on a whim when I came into town for a bit. This review is for Jamie who was so sweet and so attentive with my hair! She was pleasantly chatty, but not intrusive, and explained what she was doing every step of the way. I really appreciated her friendliness, skill, and attention to detail, and if all the ladies and gentlemen attending this school attend to clients in a manner similar to hers, I'm sure everyone will go a long way with their careers. Keep in mind that this is a beauty school and that's what your stylist is doing when they're working with you - schooling themselves. Keep your expectations reasonable.
