I was in Carmel for vacation and my nails needed a new manicure they were tearing and chipping so I called just about ever Tony nail salon in Monterey and Carmel. Carmel Nail Shope was one of the only salons to answer and I'm so glad she did!! The salon is located downtown so it was super convientent to stop by after breakfast and the salon entrance is just so cute (like everything in carmel). They did a great job very very clean and quick paid $40 for a new gel manicure with gel removal. I wish they were located in sf where I live!! Read Less

Booked an appointment for 5 pm on a Friday. I arrived 10 minutes early and was led upstairs to the salon, which was empty. Two people worked on me for the mani / pedi, one who spoke English and one who spoke limited. While they initially seemed friendly, I felt they didn't have the best of intentions when they asked me to leave at 5:40 when I had only been drying my nails for 5 minutes. I knew their closing time was at 6 pm, so I was very surprised when they said I would need to wear their disposable floppy sandals outside into the streets. I didn't understand what the rush was. I wore mule sandals so I knew the polish on the pinky toes might be compromised, but I did not want to seem impolite since they wanted me to leave. (Note: I wear the same mule sandals to my nail appointments back at home all the time, and I've never had a problem with smudging after drying under the machine for 15-20 minutes.) Right when I left the salon in my sandals, several of my nails immediately got destroyed and the polish got smudged. This was a huge waste of money, considering this place was almost $20 more than my usual nail salon who does a much better job. My skin above my cuticles of my right pinky finger was also cut by the lady who did not speak English. It healed in a couple days with antibiotic cream but it was red and stung a lot whenever I washed my hands. Read Less

I have been here several times and always had Tony, who is wonderful.  This time he wasn't working so I had Kim.  Not good--her French manicure involved cutting my nails so short that I cried out to stop on my thumb.  It looked like I would have an ingrown thumbnail afterwards, but so far haven't four days later.  She doesn't speak English so I had to ask another manicurist to translate for me--also, when she trimmed by cuticle too close and made it bleed.  Weird--my nails were cut so short she had to paint a white nail tip on each, making my nails look very stubby since the white covered half of each nail.Won't go back unless I get Tony.  Otherwise, I'll check out another nail salon. Not a great service. I came in at 4pm on a Thursday afternoon and wondered why they were not busy, with only one other person getting a manicure. I brought my 4.5 year old daughter, she gets a nail trim and polish, I got a pedicure and gel manicure. The lady that did my pedicure slid on the temporary sandals and smudged my large toe. I thought she fixed it, however, later I noticed it looked bumpy. I should have double checked it. The gel manicure was uneven at the cuticles and had air bubbles, which in a light pink color looked like black spots. Then the next day the color bizarrely faded in the sun. My fingers hurt so much as I'm tapping out this review because of the manicure I got here yesterday. The lady who did my manicure and pedicure hacked away at my cuticles extremely carelessly (half the time, as she was cutting, she was looking in another direction entirely). As a result, it's no surprise that she cut me several times. She didn't speak a word of English and didn't respond to my cries of 'ouch, please be careful'. 4 out of my 10 fingers were cut so deeply they're still bleeding a day later. Not even an apology was offered. You'd think after she cut one finger, she'd be more careful with the rest, but no.This place is also quite pricey. I've never gotten my nails done in Carmel before (and perhaps the pricing is in line for this expensive little town), but to me $50 (pre-tip) for a mani/pedi is a little excessive (particularly when the service is this atrocious and the ambiance isn't anything special). My go to place in SF is only $33.If you go here, do so at your own risk! Read Less

Self Care is super critical. I was in need of some TLC so I came here to get a manicure and pedicure. My friend came to undo some damage another salon did to her out of state (it was a hot mess). Holly was fantastic-- she totally listened to my friend and took care of her... the nails looked amazing and my girl was good to go! I had Kim was incredibly thorough. Both my nails and hands got the TLC needed and a gel manicure and regular pedi came out to 70 bucks. The store is super clean, quiet and I was able to take 90 minutes to myself. Decently priced nail salon just off the mail strip of Carmel by the sea.Got a gel pedicure as a walk in. So far, I very much like the result.Clean!! I LOVE carmel nail shoppe. Compare them to any nail place in carmel/monterey, this place takes the cake. CLEAN, friendly, and they have a great selection of colors. I came here on at 1PM on a Friday afternoon in a group of 7, getting ready for a wedding on Saturday. We called about 10 days before, and had no trouble getting the appointments -- they only have 4 pedicure chairs, so they did our nails in two shifts, but had no problem with us all hanging out and chatting, with some girls arriving late or having to take off early, and provided seats and offered water. They did an excellent job, were kind and professional, and worked very quickly and efficiently.The woman doing my nails confirmed that I was the bride and paid extra special attention to her work. I was not disappointed -- it was probably the best of any manicure I've gotten in terms of staying on and not chipping! She was incredibly focused and precise while doing the french manicure, and when I left Carmel 4 days later all 10 fingernails were still in absolutely perfect condition, without a chip to be seen, which is unheard of in my experience, and it still looked pretty good a week and a half later.I would definitely recommend this place, and will go back next time I'm in Carmel! First off, I've been a manicurist for over 15 years and I'm very, very picky. I hate doing my own nails and I have always had a hard time finding someone that does them the way I like them. Holly does the best acrylics on the peninsula by far! The shape and quality are great and they last over 3 weeks with no issues! I have tried at least 6-7 different places with so-so luck. This family owned and family run business really was a highlight of our weekend.  My wife and I like to treat ourselves, usually on her birthday, and I come along for the ride for the mani-pedi experience.  While not something I usually do, I do enjoy the pampering and elegance and the look and feel of a fresh mani-pedi.  These fine folks did a fabulous job making us feel welcome, being funny and lively, and, most importantly, pampering us without breaking the bank.  Everything here was very clean, and the room was very bright.  It was off the beaten path enough that people weren't walking by staring at us - in fact, the room is relatively private, which is really nice.  The employees were all very friendly and it seems like they are all related, which is very cool since they are all young working adults.  And they certainly know what they are doing - my wife absolutely loved her nails, and the color seemed to stay for quite a while.  I enjoyed my foot treatments, including the hot wax treatment.  My cuticles and nails all look refreshed and refined, and my hands and feet felt great afterwards.Great job.  Would highly recommend.
