I absolutely loved it here!!!! I was in town and had no clue where to go. I found this place on Yelp and decided to take a chance. The ladies there were so friendly and welcoming. They were quick and professional. Everything was clean and tidy. The best part was my shellac nails lasted for about 2 weeks!!!!! That's impressive because I'm always washing my hands, I expected the paint to come off sooner. Better than my "normal" places back home. I called in to make an appointment and they were unable to help me.They just told me "oh not now come at 2." What is up with that? Definitely left me feeling sour because I was really looking forward to getting a gel manicure sometime this week. It would be nice if instead of telling me oh not right now come at 2, that they were able to tell me what times they had available in the week. I let them know I was looking for a 1 o'clock appointment either that day or next week but they were able to cooperate with me so I went elsewhere. Until never colorful nails.I gave them two stars because I know that they have the potential and I've seen other pictures where people seemed to love them only knocked off three stars because of the fact that I didn't get my nails done here because they didn't even give me a chance. At the last minute I decided to have my acrylic nails removed and get a manicure. They were busy so I toured Carlsbad for a bit and came back. After reading some reviews I was beginning to wonder if I should return. The other reviews were incorrect. Colorful Nails & Spa is very clean, Valerie opened the fresh tool package right in front of me and kept cleaning her station as she worked on my nails. She did a great job. Also the other employees were very nice. Everyone was chatting with each other both clients and employees. Reminded me of the TV show "Cheers" were everyone knows your name. If I am ever in Carlsbad CA again I will diffidently go back to Colorful Nails & Spa. I highly recommend. Read Less

Horrible. I've never been so rushed through a pedicure before in my life. It was about 20 minutes. My feet look disgusting, it's like I didn't even get a pedicure! Where is the foot scrub? She scrubbed enough just to cut the bottom of my foot. They also have a notice up saying they are increasing the prices. You need to be able to give quality work in order to charge higher prices. There was only me in the salon, they were not busy. Why the rush? I'll be going to another reputable salon Hush Beauty in Oceanside to get a pedicure tomorrow. Waste of money. Read Less

Excellent service! Came in yesterday and got a gel mani and a pedi for $50 total and brought three of my girlfriends from out of town who all got pedis as well. We all had a great time chatting with the ladies and it was a really friendly environment! Our nails look great and we were done within an hour. Definitely will be coming back again :) Read Less

The girls here are professional, friendly, and very clean. I get gels I've never had them lift or break. Jeni does quality work and pays attention to detail. They are four sisters it's a very comfortable environment. Lots of laughs and friendly group conversations. I tell everyone to go there. I've been coming here for ten years every three weeks. This place used to be really good. My mother, 2 sisters, and I used to frequent this spot and we befriended most of the women who were working here. The service used to be great,  especially since it is pricier than most nail salons. I have been meaning to write this review for a long time now, because there was a point where we were no longer treated as friends and became just more clients. This was around the time prices went up as well.They no longer took care and our Manis and pedis no longer lasted as long, chipped quicker, and the experience dwindled. Ultimately, we were forced to stop going to Colorful because I was getting a set of gels with Janine when she was horribly rude to me. Her boyfriend was studying at one of the nail stations and I asked something about how long they had been together and her response was snappy, sarcastic, and she was quite annoyed with me. We never went back because the rest of my appointment was awkward and I felt she could have handled it a lot better if I offended her somehow. Read Less

My girlfriends and I were on our way to San Diego this weekend and stopped for a pit stop at a Starbucks. We looked across the street and noticed their sign so decided to call and see if they can take us. So glad we came into this nail salon.. All the employee's we're so friendly and had a great sense of humor which is rare in most nail salons back home in Los Angeles. Now I'm sad that they are so far away. My sister and I were having a day out when we decided I wanted my nails redone and the closest place was this one! We walked in and were initially turned off because the first woman we talked to was cold and a bit dismissive. However we were sat with Janine and she was wonderful! I had never met a manicurist so kind and lovely. She talked to both of us and made us feel welcome. Not to mention it was the best manicure I'd ever received! Horrible. I'm never coming here, worst customer service. I walked in to get a basic manicure after calling their number, walked right in to an almost empty salon for them to tell me I probably called the wrong number and then tell me it would be 45 minutes for someone to help me when whoever on the phone told me ten to fifteen.It was just absurd since I saw three open ladies and only one girl inside besides myself getting her toes done.Awful- plus I guess they get people calling the wrong number, a lot. Great little place right by the beach. I've seen three different manicurists there and they've all done a great job, been very friendly and been pretty speedy at it too. Nice clean peaceful place, TV to watch, good collection of nail colors. A little pricier than some, so you do pay for it, but I think it's worth it for such a good job. (Acrylic fill is $30.) I LOVE Colorful Nails.  It is the only place I go to for my pedicures.   The staff is always friendly and helpful and each does a great pedicure that lasts AT LEAST 3 to 4 weeks without any chipping.  I brought my mother when she visiting and she said BEST pedicure she has ever had! Read Less

For a little over a month now, I've been on a quest to find a new nail salon to frequent. This is not that salon.I made an appointment for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure, and they sat me on time, but that was the only positive. They have a very limited gel selection, featuring really only reds, pinks, and shades in between. The girl never introduced herself, so I didn't get her name. She was nice enough, but she did a sloppy job on my hands. When she was removing my old gel, the scraps were flying everywhere because she was scraping very fast and hard. The finger bowl was full of cold water, so it hurt my hands after minute or so, and I had to take my fingers out. No cuticle oil before cutting them. Lack-luster massage.The salon is small, but still noisy because the girls were yelling and talking across the room to each other. I ended up skipping the pedicure because I wasn't very impressed.The worst part was the price. $33 for a plain gel manicure. For that price I would expect higher quality of service and work. I used to pay $26 at a place in Oceanside that was amazing, so they definitely overcharge here.All-in-all, a really disappointing salon for having such prime positioning in Carlsbad. Read Less

Love the early hours on Saturday at 9am. They reverted renovated and the salon looks more spacious, clean and open. I love the big comfy massage chairs for the pedicure station and the array of polishes are plentiful. Ask fur the extra sea salt scrub for $5 it's worth it your feet feel like butter after! I live in Los Angeles, so you know I have a lot of choices. And I have tried many of them. I keep coming back to Colorful Nails. They keep busy, and try to stay on time. It is helpful to make an apointment, If you want to ""walk in"" they may ask you to come back later in the day, but they will do everything to get you in.
